Good place for breakfast. Not as good as El Milagrito but still good. Located in the Midtown section of San Antonio, by Blanco and Oblate, this little eatery is tucked away in back of a strip mall so it's kind of hard to find. I had the Huevos Rancheros and they were nice and spicey. My wife had two tacos (which you can order a la carte). Both were good. Tortillas are home made (a plus in my book). Servers were very nice. The staff has also been replaced within the past few months understandably cause of C19. The cost of the food would be okay of the food quality was good. I used to come here when I was in high school for breakfast tacos all the time. I finally came back here the other day for lunch and was presently surprised that nothing's changed. The food is still awesome and the prices are still cheap. All the employees are really nice and helpful. Even though I love this place and it's food I would recommend going here for breakfast. In the heart of old San Antonio, TX near downtown is a long standing cafe, Blanco Cafe. I like the 1950's diner feel the place has with the lunch counter setting. The place was packed on a Sunday 1230pm. We waited outside for a table for 10-15 minutes which wasn't too bad (it was a nice day oitside). They offer both breakfast and lunch all day long. We opted for lunch. I had the enchilada trio plate which came with a chicken enchilada, a ground beef enchilada, and a cheese enchilada rolled in red corn tortillas with a side of rice and refried beans. My husband had the carne guisada plate that came with a side salad, rice, and beans. The flour tortillas and homemade and taste delicious. The food was good but lacked a bit of flavor. I'm not one to add salt to my food but I did have to do so here. The menu is extensive and they offer almost any type of breakfast taco you can imagine. This is a cool Tex Mex restaurant where they serve some of the best enchiladas and the Fideo Loco is just as good!I been coming here for years usually after service and it gets pretty packed then, but give it some time and next thing you know your sitting down being served by the friendly staff. When you are done eating and you need to walk off the food go visit some of the cool little stores next door and across the street there is even a cool little bakery owned by one of my cousins who I found out by accident such a small world ehhh. This place deserves 4.5 for food but not an option. Not a fancy place but gets a good reasonably priced meal served to its customers!!! Great food!!! Good homemade tortillas, good breakfast tacos (chorizo, egg, bean), good beans, good brisket tacos, good breakfast potatoes, good enchiladas!! Not to mention they serve Coke in the bottle!!! Had breakfast here on Saturday with my son and my neices. Blanco cafe has always been good and still is, but I have to say I prefer the one on Fredericksburg in the medical center area! Our waitress here at Blanco was good, however, there were 6 of us and they brought our food out at separate times. That's a big no no! It should all come out at the same time. No one wants to start eating without the others. Especially since my son got his food first and wanted to wait for the others. I told him to go ahead and eat and he was done by the time the rest of the food came out. I'm sorry but I do not like that style of serving. I always get the cheese enchiladas with double papa no rice no beans, it was ok. The other Blanco café comes out all melty cheesy goodness, this one was dry looking. Cheese wasn't melted, there was barely any sauce. I didn't care for it at all. I think I'll definently stick to Blanco cafe in Fredericksburg rd! read more

The food is always great, try the country sausage with egg taco. They don't just do it like everyone else. They add a special sauce to it that makes it very delicious. Some people put yellow cheese, but I like it without. Also try the fideo loco bowl, it is the bomb. It is a caldo style soup with fideo, ground meat, and the juice. My pulse races when I think of Blanco Cafe's cheese enchiladas. They're the best in the town, time and time again. They're always winning some award from Texas Monthly, the Current, or the Express News- These enchiladas are legendary! It's not exactly Mexican food- it's Tex-Mex. We take our own spin on the Mexican food here, where they're smothered in cheese, a sauce, and served with the veggies on the side. The tortillas here are super fluffy and served up piping hot. This place does get crowded during lunch- they've got great lunch specials, and amazing breakfast tacos. Their salsas are both some of the best on Blanco! Service here is pretty dang quick - they've been doing this for years, and this is the first of a long chain of copies that are around the area. They've got their meal-making skills down flat. They get you seated, fed and outta there quickly. You don't walk away hungry from Blanco Cafe. The offer a limited selection of deserts, but the best are the baked goods/candies they sell at the register. The prices are fair, and the portions are large. I went for the first time ever. I had heard so many people talking about how good it was. It was crowded being that it was the Saturday lunch crowd. I sat at the counter. No waiting for a table. It was awkward because the stools were situated somewhat lower than the counter. It came up to my chest. I felt like a little kid at the table. I wanted to try the "famous" enchiladas. Every review I read raved about them. In my opinion they were good, but I've had better. When I first tasted the sauce it reminded me of Enchilada Day in High School. They were good as were the beans and rice. The tortillas were a little thick and tough. Even though from where I was sitting I could see the lady making them. So it wasn't that they weren't fresh. I have been going to this place for years and today I went for Breakfast. I know prices are going up everywhere and since we are living in difficult times, and everyone is getting sick and there is a shortage in staff. With that said you still have to have integrity in your food. My husband ordered 3 tacos-Barbacoa, Country Sausage and Egg, Bean and Cheese with Bacon. I ordered Small Menudo, Carne Guisada w/Cheese and Bean Cheese to go. The flour tortillas were not good, the were hard and you can tell the flour was not fresh. The menudo was not fresh there was cold grease floating on the top. I have never had food like this at Blanco Cafe. As I went to cash out my bill was $40 dollars . I have been other places and have had alcohol and paid $50. I am use the cashier in the front she has an attitude, but that is the way she is, but I was ok with it cause the food was great!! But this place has gone down hill and they will not get my business. I came out and told my husband I am NEVER coming here again. He agreed!!! read more

We went about 3 days ago. The food has really gone down hill. The chefs in the back are pushing out garbage they lost there passion and what they represent. The best enchiladas not anymore. I got regular beef enchiladas and it was greasy under the sauce disgusting and my wife ordered enchiladas Verdes she spit her food back on tye napkin the enchilada had no flavor she said and the chicken tasted old like they recycle there food. I also ordered a fajita taco it was not fajitas it was boiled skirt steak it wasn't stir fried at all. It's like they filled a huge pot of diced up skirt steak in pot or deep pan where the fajita had a boiled texture and was recycled it tasted off it was horrible. Let me tell you about the prices just that order was over 30 dollars two plates and a taco and it was all garbage food. I will never be going there that's the last time. This is a small cafe that serves breakfast and lunch right above the riverwalk in downtown San Antonio. We were a group of 7 and ordered everything from pancakes to the Deluxe Mexican Dinner which was 2 plates of food. Their menu says best enchiladas in town and they were very good. I was shocked by the awful service and inedible food here, and especially by the reviews here that are so positive. A family friend recommended this to us, and I can't figure out why. I left after barely touching my food. First, we show up and nobody greets us. Someone eventually hollers that we can seat ourselves, but nobody comes by with a menu. Several minutes later, a waitress holding menus shows up and asks if we need them. Um, yes? The place also had an overall dumpy feel and smelled like cleaning/disinfectant (reminded me of a bathroom smell). We asked for the guac, which was actually just mashed up avocado--no cilantro, lime, tomatoes, onions or any flavoring that differentiates avocado from guacamole. I ordered the beef fajitas, but they were out (weird considering we were only one of four tables there on a Saturday night at dinner time). I got chicken instead. When ordering, I imagined it would be grilled chicken slices like at any other restaurant. Instead, it was a literal pile of all of the grisly, fatty, hard parts of the chicken you don't want to eat. I managed to pick through and find a few pieces that looked edible, and put it in the tortilla, but a few bites in, I chewed on something black and hard, and I had to take it out of my mouth. I think it was part of a bone. I also didn't like that the shredded cheese was American. I get that it's the cheapest option, but American cheese isn't actually real cheese (it's a "cheese product" like cheez-wiz). Picking through the clumps of gross chicken parts and thinking I found a few edible parts was bad enough, but then having to take a hard part of something out of my mouth was unacceptable. I left my food barely touched. My husband got the enchiladas and was extremely underwhelmed and didn't eat much of his food, either. The service was very unimpressive. Looking back, I'm mad I didn't send back my food and ask for a refund. I highly recommend avoiding this place--it's not just mediocre, it's awful. read more

The parking lot is small but that's probably because the restaurant itself is small. Come early to avoid Sunday morning crowds. On a Friday night you can get seated and served very quickly though.
