Been wanting to try Henry's for quite some time. We had friends bring takeout a few years back and while it was good I knew it wasn't as good as it should have been. we finally made it in this week and boy was it worth the wait. Our server was super nice and on top of everything, the prices were reasonable and the portions filling and so full of taste and flavor. The queso Flameado was made table side which was a nice touch watching them fold the cheese and chorizo while the plate was on fire was a nice touch. ( I will say eat it fast as it does cool and thicken quickly). We got grilled shrimp tacos on the puffy shell along with spicy chicken fajita, ground beef and shredded chicken puffy tacos and they were all to die for. The atmosphere inside is fun, and feels so authentic. The only regret i have is that we waited so long (almost 4 years) to try this despite being told many times by friends that its a must visit. The puffy tacos were delicious and it was definitely worth trying at least once if you're ever in San Antonio. I had the ground beef and the carne guisada versions of the puffy tacos. The chips and salsa had a slightly more spicy kick to it compared to other Tex-Mex places. The rice and refried beans were delicious also. Always love coming to Henry's, such a staple in San Antonio! We went during the week around dinner time so wasn't super loud. Just moved back to SA and son wanted to try his first Puffy Taco. We looked up what was near us and the reviews lead us here. You come in and check in on the iPad that's connected to Yelp so check in on Yelp to get onto the waitlist. We waited but it wasn't too bad. They have lots of places to sit while you wait. The service after sitting down was on point. Attentive, prompt, friendly.  Only great things from him. The food was good as well. We definitely will come back. Yes we all got puffy tacos but we also tried the Chalupa and enchiladas. Get the combo plates where u can pick and choose from 2-3 items. Check in on Yelp wasn't working for us so we had to sign in on the iPad they had when you first come in. The wait was about 20 mins. Make sure you check in on Yelp when you can! Waiter was super attentive. Didn't even write down our order and got it right! First time there - he gave us the Salsa Verde to try too since we were raving about the original they give you on the table. We all loved our puffy taco choices. We had been wanting to eat here for a few years, after seeing it on Texas Eats (or maybe another similar TV program) long ago. We've seen the sign as we passed by on 410 but could not see the building. What a pleasant surprise! We expected a small Tex-Mex establishment but found a great restaurant with food at least as good as Chuy's (a favorite, but there, some interiors are better than others) with a better atmosphere. The service was exemplary, never had better! The drinks were good, but slightly more expensive than I'd prefer. I wanted a black russian but they were out of Kahula (odd, for a Mexican restaurant of this quality) so had a jalepeno margarita, which was good. I am a fan of puffy tacos and was not disappointed. The charro beans were the best I've ever had and the spanish rice was as good as I've ever been served. Though out of our normal travel routes, we will make it a destination now. read more

I've never seen table side queso...and also it was the best I've ever had. My wife didn't love it as much (she likes a thin queso), but I like a thick one and this was pure melted cheese and chorizo goodness!!!! The chips were solid, needed more salt...but I loved the kick of the salsa. And of course the puffy tacos - a super interesting unique SA thing that you just have to try. I wouldn't get the shredded chicken one again, but only because the spicy fajita chicken one was better. The ground beef one was also very good and my wife loved it. I would come back and maybe try other stuff...but would HAVE to get the queso again! It was just soooooo good. I got the tex mex plate because I couldn't really decide what I wanted. I liked the puffy taco and thought it was unique but I thought every thing else was ok. Everything was a little too salty. There is plenty of seating and the food comes out pretty fast. The service isn't that great though. It took a while to get the attention of the workers. We've heard a lot about these puffy tacos and finally decided to give them a try. Can't miss it...signage was pretty clear and parking was plentiful, front and back. There's also a fun cartoonish photo op near the front entrance. Greeter was going to seat us smack in front of the kitchen, but looking around there were plenty of tables free! so we asked if we could sit in a booth. So odd... seating should be prioritized from desirable first, then undesirable last. Our server was sweet, and seemed new. There was a little mix up with our margaritas , but no biggie. Complimentary chips and salsa- chips were fresh and unsalted. We enjoyed the red salsa- it had a nice kick so I used it to top my tacos for extra flavor. Menu was huge, but being our first time here, we ordered what they're known for- puffy tacos! I ordered the 3 puffy taco plate and it was more than enough. I chose: Guac puffy taco- loved it! I'm a guac lover and this had a good amount. Spicy fajita chicken puffy taco- not much flavor. Skimpy amount of chicken- I honestly didn't taste anything. Piccadillo puffy taco- my fave! Seasoned ground beef - loads of flavor. The puffy taco shell, I assume are fried, but they were light and crispy, best to be eaten right away. So we came here again, our usual twice a month visit. We ordered the usual, two drinks, cheese dip and two puffy taco plates with a side of sour cream and a side of guac for each plate. To our surprise, the waitress explained to us that for the sides, we were charged per taco. So that was $0.79 x 8, which came out to an additional $6.84 (incl. tax) added to our bill, which also raised our tip amount. Trouble is, we were given 2 small 2oz servings per plate?!?? Look, I don't mind paying for sides, but this feels a bit excessive. Throwing a fit over $7 is stupid, but after multiple visits, these charges start adding up. IMO, there are better tex mex restaurants in San Antonio than to be poked in the eyes by Henry's Puffy Tacos' mediocre food. That's the last time that will happen to us because we're not going back until this gets fixed. read more

Our party was over 20 and the restaurant did their best to accommodate our size. Our server was great. The food is always amazing, fresh, authentic, and flavorful. You must try the puffy tacos, I recommend the Mexican cheese plate which includes one puffy taco, two cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans. If you're over the age of 21, I highly recommend the jalapeño margarita. This adult beverage only comes in a small, because it packs a punch. I do not have enough superlatives to describe the amazing time and food I had at Henry's. The only drawback? That I had to drive. Otherwise I would have had two of their delicious margaritas! This came highly recommended on the word of our friends from SATX. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was worth the wait and then some. If you've never had a puffy taco...you are seriously missing out! They're these deep fried tortilla shells that are crispy and chewy at the same time. Love, love, love the charro beans here! Chips and salsa are always fresh, and chips are nice and crunchy. Guacamole is extra, but mine had some nice chunks of avocado and was freshly made. I had 1 chicken puffy taco, which was full of chicken, and the shredded cheese melted in the taco, making it extra tasty. I also had a picadillo puffy taco, and those are my favorites. I would have preferred a little extra lettuce and tomato, but it was still good. My server was attentive and brought everything out quickly. She kept my tea glass full and offered me a to go tea, which was awesome. It's definitely a favorite place for me. It's somewhat bustling with people, so noise is average. Henry's is a San Antonio staple for a reason. They are historically one of the original founders of the puffy taco which is now in every Tex-Mex restaurant across the state. The tortilla is as light and airy as everything you could want. The meat choices are all well prepared and exactly what you would hope for in a taco of any kind. The interior looks like any other mid range nice Tex-Mex joint but has a lot going for it. The bar is full service if you don't want to wait for a table.
