Tough to find parking sometimes, usually a 15-20 min wait and food is good. I just think chips and salsa should be complimentary.

I can't believe I had never been to Blanco Cafe until this past weekend. I spend a lot of time in San Antonio visiting family, and I love to eat. And Blanco Cafe has been around since 1974! But I'd never been until my grandfather requested it for dinner one night during my most recent visit. FYI There are a couple of restaurants called Blanco Cafe in San Antonio. This one is on Blanco Road, and it's been there for more than 50 years. It's known for its enchiladas, but it has a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner (they close at 7pm M-Sa and at 3pm on Su, so it's a place for an early dinner only). (They don't have alcohol either, so this isn't your spot for a margarita or beer with dinner.) The cafe is classic and comfortable. It's not fancy but has plenty of charm. People love it so there can be a little bit of a line outside, but it moves fast. We were a table of five and by the time I parked (there's a small lot behind the building and street parking), my family was already seated - and that was a Friday night around 6. Since they're known for their enchiladas, four of the five us got their enchilada plate. They're so classic - classic Tex-Mex enchiladas that is! Tex-Mex enchiladas start with tortillas dipped in a chile sauce (which is what makes them look so red). They're stuffed with gooey cheese and then topped with chile con carne and even more cheese. I can see why Blanco Cafe's enchiladas are so popular. They are classic, delicious, and so crave-able. Served with frijoles, rice, and wonderful flour tortillas, it's just a great, classic meal. I have zero complaints. But if you're not in the mood for enchiladas, they have a full menu with plenty of other items to choose from (and lunch specials Monday through Saturday). I didn't have room for their Fideo Loco, so I'm personally ordering that when I return. Blanco Cafe was a treat. The service was great. The restaurant has no frills but is comfortable and classic and charming. It's simply good. I know I'll be back because even my picky grandfather (he's 102, so his pickiness is understandable) loves it. I'm looking forward to returning! A San Antonio classic I can't believe I hadn't tried until 2026!

09 Dec 2025 It's still so good. We went this afternoon around 3pm. About half crowded. The husband ordered chicken enchiladas and I had the regular chalupa plate. Both come with rice, beans and tortillas. Their flour tortillas are sooooooo good. Just the right amount of char and softness. The plates are tasty. The iced tea is always delicious. Go there.

I love Blanco Cafe. It is the epitome of good Mexican food. I had the Fidel with carne guisada and it was delicious!! It looked like it was going to be greasy but wasn't. I also ordered a chalupa after I ate and it was out in minutes. I sat at the counter and it was great. If you want good goo and fast service come here!!

    Nasty smelly asada

Ordered their Asada tacos to go...the asada smelled rancid when I got home...the asada smelled like it was sitting on the counter for ages...disappointing and I had high expectations for this place...was going by recommended reviews...but that is not what I got ..ABSOLUTELY WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AND WILL STEER OTHERS CLEAR FROM COMI G TO THIS PLACE

What happened Blanco cafe? Their taco's used to be full. Been a lover of blanco cafe for so many years. But my tacos look like they are on a diet. Or have been for quite sometime and they lost a lot of weight. Service is great. Everyone is very nice. Place is still the same ole spot. Homey and comfy place inside. Just the taco quality took a hit.

Amazing service. There were only 2 waiters & there was never any wait or issue with refills. They were both so welcoming & always helpful. The food was very good and the vibe was so welcoming & fun. We will definitely return again once we come back to SA.

They line these seats up outside when it's full inside and you have to wait for a table (or your to-go order)

We usually go here for dinner, but today we went for breakfast. It's the classic hole in the wall with amazing, quick, inexpensive food. My $3 taco was huge. I might be skipping lunch.

When I'm looking for classic San Antonio enchiladas, this is my go-to spot. Every time I've been, they are SLAMMED with a line out the door, but the food always comes out super quick and piping hot. I haven't tried anything other than their cheese enchiladas, but why would I?! This is what they're famous for. I love that it feels like a diner and the ladies working are always so so nice to me. Next time I have out-of-town friends visiting, I want to take them here for the experience!

Wowowow this place is great, popped in bc our car was charging across the street and what a great find. The portions are huge, the staff is SO friendly, the food was amazing. We got the enchiladas verdes, tangy tomatillo sauce, big portion, the barbacoa taco- these tacos are BIG and excellent! The chilaquiles and the egg taco, also fabulous! Would recommend!

I had lunch here the other day. Very nice place tucked away in an old part of SA. Very good food, fast service and a friendly staff. Almost reminds me of Gilbert's on the other side of town. I will definitely come back.

Gross food and horrible service. They can't even make a chorizo plate. It reminded me of food the Iraqis threw away when I was deployed.

If you normally drink your coffee black then I do not recommend it because it is a bit on the sweet side. But they do offer regular pot coffee as an option. (The sweetness caught my mom off guard). Taste it before you add anything to it. I also recommend trying the small conchas-they came out warm and ready to eat! I decided to stay in the city longer to check out this place. This restaurant is huge and the wait was 45 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. We used our waiting time to stroll through the Mercado across the way. Once the table was ready, my friend got a text. I always wanted to try menudo every Mexican restaurant I go to. But not until I saw the sign on the back cover. This restaurant is under the same owner as Pico de Gallo. Omg. I just had their menudo the day before. No thanks. I decided to order fajita chicken salad. The portion was really small. The food only filled a half of the fried salad bowl. I asked to put cheese on the side. It may had it look more but I don't eat cheese as much. I was glad that dressing was on the side. Which was too salty for me. So, if the food was the same as other chain, we could have eaten there which was closer to the hotel. But I noticed the difference was the servers. Our waitress was cuter and very polite. My friends kept teasing her. She kept good manner and responded back with a smile "uhhh no". Hahaha.

The colorful decor hits you and you're transported. I ordered the "Mexican Dinner" with chicken enchilada, pork tamal, beef taco with beans and rice. Also had a side order of fresh handmade tortillas. Paloma to wash it all down. Everything tasted great. My server was excellent. Patient and helpful with recommendations. The mariachi band was fun and they roamed the restaurant and bar to play, so chances are that if they aren't singing at your table then they're nearby.

We decided to try several appetizers to go along with our concha to get a wider taste of their food than we would by just ordering a couple entrees. Let me tell you, this was a great idea! We ordered the Tosti-Ceviche Verde, Panela Asado, Mexican Street Corn, and their Spicy Bean Dip. The Ceviche Verde was excellent, the freshness of the fish and shrimp was wonderful with the chipotle mayo and avocado. We chose to have it on the salsa Verde Tostitos and it was all great combination. The Panelo Asado was a completely new dish for us and was extremely good with a savory flavor from the salsa Tlaquepaque that mixed well with the Panela cheese. Their tortillas though not made in house, are made for them and taste like mom made them. The Mexican Street Corn was great and had the perfect bit of char taste from the corn. It was creamy and flavorful, we did think it could use just a tad more lime juice though. The Spicy Bean Dip was very good. You can't go wrong with Oaxaca, Chorizo, and pieces of pork mixed with some mildly spicy beans. Our server was fantastic. She had great recommendations for us, and was quick with checking on our drinks and generally helping us throughout our dinner. The food was prepared quickly, was hot, tasteful and refreshing.
