Taste it before you add anything to it. I also recommend trying the small conchas-they came out warm and ready to eat! This was only my second time going to this restaurant but both times I have had good experiences. Parking is a little odd. There is parking in the front and parking in the back.

There's seating at the main building, plus a huge outdoor patio seating area, and an entire other building beautifully decorated. The hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server was excellent. We were seated in the other building near the windows. The menu wasn't huge, but just right with a few lunch and brunch items. After debating for a while of what to order, I decided on the Texas Gulf Shrimp plate. Agua Fresca of the day per our server was strawberry pineapple. Our server was able to water mine down slightly- since it was very sweet, but love knowing that it was freshly made. Complimentary chips and salsa always a plus, and we were able to order some spicy salsa to accompany at no charge. My shrimp plate was delicious! 2 skewers of nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp atop salsa with perfectly cooked cilantro rice and a fresh leaf salad. A half slices avocado accompanied my plate. Oh how I love avocados. I thoroughly enjoyed my plate. The chicken al carbon was also a good choice - half a chicken that was juicy, not dry. The avocado toast was beautiful and the pecan salsa was quite interesting. The female performers during our brunch in the room, made it very hard for all of us to have conversations. The volume echoed loudly in the room, so it was very hard to speak and understand each other. Although a great idea, maybe outdoor patio area might be more suitable. Beautiful space, great service, good food.

After 3 or 4 minutes I was able to get his attention and tell him 'Hey, I didn't order yet!'. He was less then apologetic and said he just assumed he was ordering for both of us. He was definitely more interested in chatting with his local friends then serving a couple of out of towners. But the food was good and so was the drink.

Inside and out, Hugman's Oasis (named to honor the godfather of the Riverwalk) is a true tiki bar. Signage, furniture, lighting, music, interior finishes, fantastic decor, and (of course) drinks are well-done. If they had stayed open later, we would have tried all of the drinks, so there's another visit to come soon. Our bartender knew requested off-menu classics, which was impressive. We will not hesitate to seek refuge from the downtown streets in this oasis again any time.

Let me just start by saying that 1 star is too much. I stopped in with my family over the Christmas Holiday and we were served a plate full of embarrassment. We walk in, the place is busy "NOT because of the service", there was not a lot of places open on this day. People were walking in behind us and seating themselves (at dirty tables) while we, a family of 5, wait for an open "clean" table. Busboy said there is a table at the back of the restaurant and to grab an other chair to seat us all, Great. We sit and wait for our waitress. She finally shows and the first thing out of her mouth is "You cant sit here, You're blocking my path". My reply, we were told we could sit here plus 1. Rude waitress (In a loud old lady smokers voice), Who? Who told you you could sit here? My reply, the busboy. She yells over a table of happy taco eaters to the poor guy and disrupts the entire place. Did you tell these people they could sit here? And Why? They are blocking my path. You could hear the roaches stammer across the floor. The busboy cowardly denies (who could blame him) he was in the spotlight for the first time in his life. The people and roaches were bug eyed and all ears. I have never see my parents and family so embarrassed. Mom says let's just go somewhere else. We all agree, then get up to start our exit. The waitress still mouthing off, you just can't block the path. I apologized for us being the "Customers" who inconvenienced the so called waitress. I was in a giving mood, it's Christmas time so I gave her the bird and no, not the holiday turkey kind. Long story longer, I wasn't kidding about the roaches. Enter at your own risk and hope you don't get the leather faced trucker waitress ;-). I'm kidding, she's not a trucker. read more

My girlfriend took me and a friend to this location, having spoken about how delicious it was the last two times that we had arrived. We sat ourselves in the back area near the windows and the scene was quite lovely to see. However, it took nearly 5 minutes for our waitress to even come up and introduce herself and the place was filled with us and two other tables. She apologized for the delay and we placed our orders. My friend and I ordered the #1, two cheese enchiladas with chicken or beef fajita. My girlfriend ordered the #2, two cheese enchiladas with a beef taco. With all the proclamations that they had been voted as the best enchiladas for years; the meal that arrived was very disappointing. The enchilada sauce was quite yummy but it was hard to bite through and the cheese had the texture of being reheated rather than freshly made. The tortillas brought out for us were dry, tough, and lacked the wonderful fluffiness you'd expect. Both the chicken and the beef was under-seasoned and lacked any real taste to be truly enjoyed. Same issue with the beef taco, they just had no flavor outside of their natural meaty taste. The meal was filling and we accepted is as "mediocre". When we were paying, the hostess on shift asked if we enjoyed our meal. My girlfriend responded with a long pause and a "well....it was okay, I guess." The hostess simply nodded, no further questions or inquiries, and took our money. I was deeply disappointed that they missed an opportunity to turn this around for us. I would certainly not recommend The Original Blanco Cafe, you can get something better for the price you're paying. Head to Sarita's just up the road, there has never been a complaint there. read more

Service is busy to say the most but very calm never to get you worried .but the smell is amazing threw out the building ,parking lot and down the street coming up to the place .

They really need to stop hyping this trashy, dirty, hole in the wall with horrible food up! The…read moremenu provided had pricing, but they charge whatever they feel like. The customer service was horrible, and we were also disregarded as soon as we entered the establishment; we should have departed then. As we were eating, we were asked if a chair could be borrowed from our table. The entire table and chair was removed, then, as I was still eating, 4 employees came and stood staring at me as I ate, asking if I could finish my food, recklessly removing another chair beside me, nearly throwing my purse to the floor! At this point I was done, went to pay for our unfinished meals, asked for a tea refill and the lady refilled it putting a hole in the cup. Tea was gushing inside the cupholder spilling everywhere, me, inside of the vehicle, the ground, etc! Went to another location, where they assisted with the clean up of Mittman's mess, commenting that someone put a hole here in the cup. Mittman, you want our money, but do not want to service or treat us appropriately, never again!
