Love it! I love customizing anything, especially food! So when I walked in and realized that I got to customize my pizza, I was more than excited. When it comes down to pizza, I never know how to order because there's the Meat Lovers pizza that has the Italian Sausages that I love and then there's the Hawaiian that has the Pineapples that I cannot have pizza without - and the things that sucks is that all the huge Pizza Chains are always so pricey with low quality pizzas! So yes, Blaze Pizza was perfect! My boyfriend and I each customized our own pizza, and then were bragging to each other about how GOOOOOOOD our pizzas were (and we both have completely opposite tastes - he usually goes for the whole meat shabang while I cover my pizza with every vegetable topping there is) --- but satisfyingly enough, we both loved one another's pizzas as well. I'm not a fan of crust either (always giving my crusts to a crust lover) so the thin flatbread-like dough was perfect. I will definitely be coming back especially since all my housemates had just an enjoyable experience -- we will all be returning. read more

Here's my general breakdown for the review I'm giving them. 1 reason = 1 star ... +1 star : They realized that Pieology was becoming a scary competitor and definitely stepped up their game. The first time I came here in 2012, the crust tasted like saltine crackers and the toppings were VERY limited. But now they have The build your own option and the crust is MUCH better . +1 star : They lowered the prices to match competitors. This seems like a silly reason but when the food was only decent and the price was more than Pieology for much less toppings , I was willing to make the trip to Spectrum to get a better DIY pizza . But now that they've matched the toppings, upped the crust quality AND evened the price, I think it deserves some credit. +1 star : Ultra convenient. Right across from UCI so it's a perfect place for between class lunch or a quick bite after a study session or even a great place to get food during finals or something when you need a food/study break. +1 star : GREAT portions. I can easily eat half, be satisfied and have another half for the next meal. This is super great for me because I'm on a budget but also going back to the fact that they've started to offer unlimited toppings, more protein means it's more filling and more worth it ! Added Bonus : They offer arugula at the end and pesto as toppings :) these aren't reason enough for an additional star BUT it's nice to have something fresh and green to top off your pizza or pesto for some added flavor The only reason I wouldn't give a 5 star rating is because there ARE better places for the same food and of the same price . Came here hoping for a REALLY quick lunch, and they delivered. The place is set up sort of like an assembly line like Subway, where one person gets the order started and the dough ready, and it gets passed down the line to people who do the toppings, then to the guy who fires it up. Really efficient. And only $6.85 - not bad! I got the Link In pizza, just because I want to try their combinations before I venture out and make my own. The time I ordered to the time I got my pizza was only about 10min, and I came when they were pretty busy. Service was so-so, but I don't go to these kinds of places for the service, I go for the quick and yummy food. And this place did just that. The dough was thin enough, sort of like an artisan pizza. There was a good amount of red sauce and cheese, and I didn't find it greasy at all. There was a good amount of toppings on there such that I finished the whole pizza without feeling like I was going to be in a food coma for the rest of the day. We really enjoyed Blaze Pizza! It has a lot to live up to because it's inevitably going to get compared to Pieology, which we are huge fans of... so we're very happy to report that it more than met our expectations! Husband even said, "I think I might actually like this place MORE than Pieology". I'm on the fence - it's a close call though! The concept is the same as Pieology and Chipotle, and follows the "build your own for one set price" business model. You can build your own for about $7 with unlimited toppings, or order one of their specialty pizzas. They have a gluten-free crust option, which is expensive IMO - you have to add $3 if you want the gluten-free crust. I had to get it because I have a gluten allergy, but it was really good. You start by choosing your crust, then the type of sauce you want as your base. They offer three choices - a white sauce, regular marinara, or spicy red sauce. I got the spicy red and I loved it! If you're a fan of bold flavors and a bit of heat, I highly recommend that one. Lots of toppings for you to choose from, and very friendly service. Will come again! read more

Edit: I received a rather quick response from Blaze over my initial review to resolve the issue. I was mailed two free pizza vouchers in a couple of days. We received excellent service this time and didn't wait long in line. The only part that took a while was three of the workers did not know whether the voucher includes all pizzas, but Adriana Nava took care of us and was very helpful. The pizzas were overall delicious as usual. ~~~ As a regular customer at this blaze due to proximity, I am very disappointed by tonight's rude encounter. I will not return to this establishment again. After waiting a SUPER long line in the cold for fast food just to support an organization fundraiser, we were turned down because the BOGO flier was unclear. I tried to explain how misleading this flier is to the person taking orders and the girl working next to her snapped at me. She shouted in frustration that both IDs are required and got all red in the face before I got to continue my sentence. The people behind us just gawked at her. They made us feel awkward and uncomfortable so we ended up leaving. Nowhere on this flier does it specify that both students must be there or that both IDs had be shown. In fact, "show us your student ID...and we'll hook your study buddy up" suggests that one of us didn't even need to be there. The deal was misleading and the workers were not accommodating to say the least. Great way to piss off hangry students during the stress of finals week. I suggest going to the pizza joint across teriyaki instead. read more

We ordered one large simple pie and two build your owns, along with a side of dough knots. The simple pie looked great, as did one of the build your owns -- but the other (mine!) was missing the only meat requested on the pizza, and the slices weren't cut through (also, oddly enough, this build your own was cut into 8 slices, when it's usually cut into 6). It's really frustrating to order food for pickup only to open the box and home and realize that one of the key requested ingredients is missing. The only saving grace was that my husband was willing to share the Italian sausage off of his pizza with me. I think we'll try a different Blaze next time and see how that works out for us. read more

Blaze is a Chipotle/Subway style make-your-own pizza restaurant. You can choose the type of sauce, type of cheese (can combo more than one), meat (pack em on, its unlimited!), veggies (unlimited!), extra sauces, and other miscellaneous toppings for the same price. Totally worth every penny if you like a very layered pizza. If you're just a cheese pizza kind of person, I'm not sure if this epxerience will be worth it. Once you've created your masterpiece, the pizza is fast-fired in a large oven. When they call your name to pick it up, its piping hot, the crust is cripsy, and the pizza is oozing with deliciousness. My perfect pizza is the classic red sauce, shredded mozerella, chicken, mashed garlic, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, pinapples with pesto sauce drizzled on top. They are almost always bustling at this location because it's in a college town (you'll often fine a line out the door), but the line moves very fast and I've never had trouble finding seats. I've been craving Blaze Pizza for weeks, and finally got a chance to get some at the University Center right here by the University of California, Irvine. Can you believe this place? Sushi, Blaze Pizza, Boba, AND In-N-Out, right next to your school? How is that fair :(. Anyways, I have to stick with a 3-star rating for Blaze Pizza. It's pretty much consistent with all the other chain stores of the same name, so there isn't much difference in taste. The pizzas are good, but the price point is a little high for what it is. I usually stick with one of their "pre-made" topping set-ups, because I don't trust myself to make something edible :(. Blaze pizza sure grows on you. I've been back twice since my first review and I always leave happy. Both times I came before the lunch rush, which can be pretty insane. I suggest you getting there any time before noon. I've gotten the red sauce, pesto, and white sauce pizza, and I think the white sauce is my favorite. I'm addicted to their argula topping at the end. Blaze Pizza is a new concept from the people behind Wetzel's Pretzels that takes pizza and puts a Chipotle-style fast casual spin on it by assembling the pizza in front of you utilizing artisan ingredients and using a brick oven to cook the pies. This review will be on the Caprini salad, the BBQ Chkn pizza, and the S'More Pie. The Caprini salad is essentially a caprese salad with the addition of mixed greens. The mozzarella pearls were rich and delicate and supplemented the sweetness of the balsamic vinaigrette and tomatoes as well as the grassy notes in the basil. Unfortunately, the mixed greens while certainly fresh lent little to the dish. Hopefully they'll add a standard caprese in the future since it's clear they have a good one in the making. The BBQ Chkn pizza is the classic California pizza with the addition of crumbled gorgonzola and pepperoncini. The two additions bring a salty earthiness and a vinegary heat to the classic which makes it all the more delicious. The crust was incredibly thin but chewy and while the top was sadly pale the undercarriage was nicely charred on the bottom. I imagine that the main reason the crust is so thin is because it shortens cooking time but it is a shame it couldn't be thicker. Still it's a stellar pie for $6.85. The S'Mores pie reminds me of a non chocolate coated Moonpie in some ways. The marshmallow and chocolate rest between two thick cookies. The marshmallow is too lightly toasted and doesn't impart enough of that burnt sugar flavor on the final product. Overall, Blaze Pizza has some growing pains but it's a fantastic fast-casual concept that has a good chance of competing against Pieology and 800 Degrees. It's an excellent value for the money but it needs to work on its crust to be truly fantastic. read more

I've never been to Blaze Pizza before and thought I should give it a try since every time I pass by the restaurant it's always crowded. On my first trip here I decided to try one of their signature pizzas, the Green Stripe. Per the menu description the Green stripe consists of "pesto drizzle over chicken, red peppers, garlic, mozzarella, arugula". All pizzas are 11 inches personal size. The Green stripe was absolutely delicious especially since all the ingredients complemented each other so well. Since these pizzas are made to order you can ask for less/more of a certain ingredient. Even though I love green pesto sauce, I didn't want the sauce overpowering the pizza so I asked for a minimal amount. The minimal amount that I received was just enough for me to enjoy the pesto as well as the rest of the pizza. For signature pizzas you can request to add other ingredients as well. I like a little spiciness to my food so I added jalapeno peppers which added a little "kick" to the pizza. If you are looking to try out one of the signature pizzas I would definitely recommend the Green Stripe! The pizza was $7.75 plus tax. Not bad for a decent sized personal pizza! If none of the signature pizzas appeal to you, you can build your own pizza. You get to choose your meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauces. The pizzas are custom made to your liking. Add any toppings you like because they are all one price whether you decide to add one topping or ten toppings! If you are sharing your pizza with someone who doesn't have the same taste palate as you, you can build your pizza 50/50. This way both parties are satisfied! There is plenty of seating if you plan on visiting with a huge party. If you have a pizza craving, definitely give this place a try! read more

Free wifi in the area too! I really liked the variety, good selection of meats and vegetables and other toppings, and they even serve beer! Service is friendly and fast, and the pizzas take about 5 minutes. While it's similar in concept to Pieology, I think the actual quality falls a bit short. It's still very good, but having eaten the perfectly baked crusts at Pieology on many occasions, this version at Blaze tastes a bit soft, soggy, and flavorless in comparison. Blaze probably has better toppings, and they also have more options if you don't want to build your own pizza. Pretty decent pizza, but doesn't match up to Pieology, in my opinion. This place is AMAZING! Love their concept for making it into a "Chipotle" style restaurant but with Artesian pizza! Prices are very fair with what you're getting, they use fresh ingredients and is delicious!! You can either make your own pizza or get one of their predesigned items instead. Each pizza is about 6.85 each before tax. Their crust style is thin so FYI, it's soooo good, airy, light and crispy - not too heavy like the thinker crusts! It definitely gives a good balance with their toppings that's for sure! They also use a brick oven to cook the pizzas, usually takes about a couple of minutes or so for it to be cooked. Their whole restaurant look is modern, but I love their clean cut design look, and their diecut on their lemonade names! i should have taken a photo of that! The build your own is still $7.50... unless you have a gluten allergy, which might cost you an extra $1. In about five minutes, your 10" custom pizza goes from the fire to your hands. Toppings include the run-of-the-mill Pizza Hut staples (pepperoni, sausage) to the artisanal frou-frou (artichoke hearts, arugula, pesto drizzle). Eat 3/4 now and save the rest for a midnight snack. It'll always taste freaking awesome. Not that big into pizza, but I'm happy to wait a bit for Blaze's. It's been at least a few years since they moved into Irvine's University Town Center, but the honeymoon phase is NOT over. Lines that exceed the seating capacity the small corner store are not uncommon. The interior is pretty enough for a dine-in, but we all know pizza makes a good grab-n-go. No points dinged there. Found this great local spot on the campus of UC Irvine at the student center , and it's now to my knowledge that they opened one at Fashion Island Mall ! I will defiantly return back to this place as well as suggest it for any pizza lovers and a fun interactive experience ! Blaze is the Subway of pizza where you build your own as you go ! Start off with the crust , they have gluten free ! And then pick a sauce and a cheese, in front of your eyes they are crafting your pizza . Also they have vegan cheese !!!! Then pick toppings and your all set, the pizza is moved to the oven, you pay then sit, and within 10 minutes your pizza is hot out of the oven ready to serve !! Outdoor and indoor seating available ! Very fun bright orange ambiance with lots of drinks and such friendly funny staff . Another generous note on staff, they asked if they should change gloves when making my pizza with vegan cheese ! That is always great to know they are careful to that extent . And the gluten free and vegan is just a major plus !! A 10in personal pizza is amazing and generous sized. Cool concept. They roll out your dough when you order. You can modify a pizza to your hearts desire. Lots of toppings to choose from. I would recommend starting with one of their basics (they know what they're doing with flavor combinations) and modify from there. I had the Artist's Pizza, even though I'm not an artist! So nice of them to accommodate me. Or maybe I AM AN ARTIST... Does making cupcakes count? Okay, I'm getting off-track. Contrary to other reviews, the pizza takes longer than 45 seconds to cook. That's fine with me, I want to make sure that baby is cooked through! It took more like 3-5 minutes. Still not bad for a build your own individual pizza. They had s'more sandwiches which we passed on so we could get fro-yo :) But I'll try them next time I'm there. It's kind of chilly inside so bring a sweater. read more

First time I tried Blaze, I was disappointed. The owner of blaze contacted me and asked me to try them out again. I was surprised at his cordial message as my review was very harsh. I was impressed by Blaze during my second visit. They have added additional toppings, such as grilled red peppers, which gives them their own uniqueness. There are also some unique green options that can go on after the pizza is cooked. I noticed that the pizza was cooked well this time. The crust was firm, yet not burnt. A big improvement from my 1st visit *see pictures* What impressed me the most is that the owner saw what could be improved and improved it immediately. This used to be my favorite Blaze location, until today. The "buffet" of veggies was very messy, with veggies spilled over into other containers. Also, I said that I have a dairy allergy and asked for a clean pizza cutter. When he couldn't find one, he took his pizza cutter in the back and just rinsed off the cheese. Gross! (I don't think he used soap cuz it was a very quick rinse!) he didn't even change his gloves after touching the faucet before cutting my pizza. Also, the restaurant was very messy. Most of the tables that weren't occupied were dirty. And this was at 2:00, and not during their lunch rush. This establishment is located in University Center in the same area where the Dunkin' Donuts is. It is a build your own pizza place. Like other places in this plaza, there are parking time limits. Their ingredient selections were similar to the one in the Fashion Island, but their line was way longer and it was harder to hear the staff due to the increased noise from the people here, but I had to use up a gift card so I just endured it. The pizza was pretty good and it was filling even though I didn't eat the entire thing. While it is not within range of the PokéStops or gym, it is close enough that one can walk there after eating. I wanted to do a raid so I grabbed a takeout box and ran over with my pizza. Restrooms were nice. read more

As to the pizza, amazingly, the crust does work! I was a little skeptical with the Chipotle and the marriage of a pizza place. I'm also a fan of thick crust but this thin crust was really delish! Slightly chewy, easy to eat. A personal pizza , 2 slices will fill you up, 3 will make you full. Did I mention I took full advantage? I got to try: Meat eater with sausage instead of pepperoni-Really good, it's like not a greasy version of pizza hut Veg out-Love the fresh vegetables, just not my favorite on the pizza. White Top-Amazeballs! Love the sharp flavor of garlic and arugula. My favorite! BBQ Chicken-I liked it, but I do think CPK does theirs a little better. Then again, theirs is $13. i'm bipolar... i'm happy and sad that this place didn't open up while i was attending UCI. happy part: if this place opened up when i was a freshman, my wallet would be super empty and forget the freshman 15, i'd gain the freshman 50. sad part: this place is pretty tasty, and it would have been nice to have a cheap pizza place around UCI. no, ray's does not count. poor poor rays. blaze is like a chipotle for pizza. you choose your toppings and sauce and everything goes on top of a thin crust pizza. they put it all together in front of you and shove it into an oven and cooks in less than 3 mins. the thin crust pizza tastes super healthy... you don't get that "fuck, i can't believe i ate a whole personal pizza to myself and now i gotta gym for like a week to work it off" feeling. they also have a salads and a dessert called smores pie?? i like how they also have seasoning on the tables, so you don't need to ask working there to get you extra packages. this place looks pretty modern and its located right across Berkeley dog. read more

Make your own pizza for 6.85! Choose 3 meats or cheeses, unlimited veggies, unlimited sauces. I got chicken, applewood bacon, mozzarella, mushrooms, little bit of onions, little bit of pineapples, and some other veggies I can't remember with marinara sauce and pesto sauce. Definitely get something like what I got because some people who ordered the default (or "Specialty") pizzas didn't seem to enjoy them. Mine tasted so good, and it's coal oven pizza! I came here for a fundraiser that my club was having the other week. It was for dinner, so the long was a bit long, but I didn't mind. For only $7 ish bucks (after tax), you get a pizza with whatever toppings you want (or you can choose from their menu)! The size of the pizza is fairly big, so there's definitely enough for you to share or take home and eat the next day. Customer service is great and fast! By the time I started ordering my pizza until I had the pizza in my hands, it was about 7-8 minutes. Not bad! I will most definitely becoming back here again soon! I also love how close it is to campus, so all I have to do is just take a quick walk over to UTC! read more

BLaze Pizza is really good. Competitors with Pieology, MOD Pizza and other restaurants where you build your own personal pizza, Blaze definitely stands out. At these restaurants, it's all about the freshness of the ingredients and how much variety they offer. Pizza is all about cheese. There is an abundance of cheese offered at Blaze including: mozzarella, goat, Gorgonzola, ovalini, Ricotta, and even vegan cheese. I basically put every cheese on my pizza because why not. Also, the crust was crispier than the other joints which is appreciated because no one likes doughy pizza. I will definitely come back here to test its consistency, but pizza is so good it's pretty hard to mess up! read more

This is a really convenient grab and go place. Blaze Pizza has a cozy feel to it; kind of feels like you're in a cabin, yet it also has a modern feel to it. I like this a lot. It's a lot like Chipotle/Subway when you're ordering; you choose the pizza/salad you want, or you have the option of creating your own. There are many people working there, which makes the line go by pretty fast (and they're pretty quick at cooking the pizza too). If you like crispy thin crust pizzas, I suggest you try this place! It's cheap and pretty decent. I got the Green Stripe Pizza and a create-your-own salad. Green Stripe Pizza: this has pesto drizzle over grilled chicken, red peppers, chopped garlic, mozzarella, and arugula. The main parts that you taste in this pizza are definitely the pesto, chicken, and garlic. For me, those are spot-on; I really like those ingredients, so if you do too, give it a try. The creaminess of the pesto sauce with the tender chicken and flavorful garlic really did it for me. The crust was thin and crispy, which is a huge plus in my book. It was a nice contrast to the more soft/tender toppings. Salad: I had grilled chicken, parmesan, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, red onions, and zucchini. It was alright; didn't really think anything special of the salad. I wish they had more ingredients to choose from. They let you pick as many toppings as you like, for $6.85, but I ended up only picking those because those were the only ones I liked from that selection. If only they had corn, mandarin oranges, or cranberries...I would be so happy! I would say go here for the pizza. If you want salad, maybe try another place nearby. read more
