Came to Blaze after a friend recommended them to me. I was excited to try the pizza. We ordered 3 pizza's. The main reason I am giving the review of 2 stars is that the 3 pizzas we ordered were burnt underneath and the service from employees was not attentive and unprofessional. For the pizza's when I mean burnt I mean black underneath. I noticed that the employee putting the pizza's in the oven was joking around with other employees and not paying attention to the pizza's, and that was probably impacted why the pizza's were burnt. When the pizza's were given to us and we we showed the manager that they were burnt underneath, the good thing is that she apologized and made us 3 more pies. She also offered us free drinks which was nice. Overall the pizza was OK. The pineapple chunks they use are very big and would recommend they use small ones to put on a thin crust pizza like this. We didn't like the pizza because it was runny on top and we only ordered a vegetarian pizza so not sure what the reason was for this. We didn't put too many toppings on the pizza's either so it might just be because of the juices from the pineapple pieces when cooked or something. read more

Does that mean I'm getting older? Being the pizza-making noob I am I panicked when in line and just decided to get two signatures - the BBQ Chicken, and the Green Stripe. I was kind of hesitant on the Green Stripe at first, but I really liked it. It was nice and pesto-y. There's a bunch of to-go boxes that you can help yourself to. I got on for my party. but they ended up engulfing all our pizzas. So I guess no slices to go after all, haha. Also I don't mean to sound really shallow, but I love their outdoor patio seating. It was 10:00 pm and I was absolutely starving. My boyfriend and I were trying to look up places that were open this late at night, but of course a lot of places were closed. We looked up Blaze, but saw several locations near us were closed, but then he found this location was is open until 11:30! We came to this location and the lighting was nice for so late at night. We ended up staying until 10 minutes before closing, but they didn't make us feel rushed at all. Also, the place was clean, the service was quick, the employees were nice, and the pizzas came out perfect. This is my second time at Blaze, and both times I've been extremely happy with my pizza. This Blaze Pizza location is great. Never had had issues with the food, service is good as well. Did run into a small snafu today. Ordered a gluten free pizza to go, when we got back to work, the pizza was very burnt. Think the consistency of a potato chip with sauce and cheese on top. I spoke to Sage Avina (the store manager I think?) who was super kind and accommodating. He originally helped me place my online order and was very patient the entire time. He said that he would compensate us for the burnt pizza with a free pizza next time we visited. Not sure what management is doing, but this has to improve. Since moving onto campus, I've been here too many times. The pizza is made to your specifications and all of the ingredients are excellent. The prices are great and so is the staff. There's also plenty of seating. It's one of my favorite restaurants on campus and doesn't obliterate my wallet. I would never think that I would ever rate a place so low but wow, I have no words. I found a hair baked into my pizza!!!!!!!! A HAIR! I only wish I had a picture to show u. When I first saw it, I thought what is that? Pull it out to discover that it's a HAIR. and theres no way its mine because it was A DIFFERENT COLOR. I was so grossed out, disgusted!!!! But then I remembered how messy all of the sauces and foods looked when I was ordering down the line, I should have taken that as a warning sign. But I decided to give them the benefit of a doubt because it was lunch time and maybe they were just really busy. Then I found that hair. NO WAY. and I would have said something to them but what would that do? Have them make me a new one? No thank you!!! I had to get back to work and didn't want to eat another one even if they made it for me. They should seriously have all those people on the food line wear Hairnets. I mean isn't it some kind of health code violation to have all of those people hovering over those ingredients and not a single person is wearing one? very cool concept and way better than your run of the mill pizza chains. Blaze is located in the University Town Center (next to the Berkeley Dog and Lee's Sandwiches area. came here for lunch with Justin B on a saturday afternoon and it was consistently busy when we there. pretty impressive to get the weekend crowd esp since im sure they cater to mostly UCI students on campus during the weekdays. the build your own pizza concept is pretty quick and efficient. for $7, a combo of 3 meats and cheeses are included and then you can add the rest of your veggie options as you see fit. this concept works out perfectly for Justin B and myself since we have pretty different tastes when it comes to food haha. this way we both get what we want and everyone wins :) the pizza cooks surprisingly fast and comes out fresh and piping hot! super thin crust which i really enjoyed. the personal pan pizza size is perfect for 1 person leaving enough for leftovers if you dont want to overstuff yourself. i wish this place had existed back when i was a UCI student and needed more affordable lunch options at the UTC haha read more

Not just for students on the go! I'd give it 5 stars, but I've only tried 1 pizza there. Need more data to give it a bump. HOWEVER, thin crust + artichoke as a topping + spicy sauce + "as many toppings as you want for the same price," means I'm sold. One star minus because the thin nature of the crust and the FAST fire style of cooking = slightly undercooked toppings. Still delicious, though. The staff seemed really on the ball and eager to please. I only wish I'd given this place a shot sooner. I thought it was a flash in the pan, but I was wrong. The atmosphere is definitely of the Chipotle variety - slightly industrial and on the cold side, but it was nice and clean. This location has inside table seating, bar stool seating (nod to an old-school pizza parlor) and plenty of outdoor and patio seating too. Will be back for the spicy sauce soon. I like the make your own pizza for $6.85 or choose from their ready made choices. I like to base my order on the white top pizza (ricotta, mozzarella, bacon, garlic, arugula), but I add extra toppings like mushrooms and artichokes (no extra charge) and I have them add a little drizzle of pesto sauce at the end. SO amazing! The only difference is that Pieology lets you put as many toppings (meat, cheese, etc.) with no extra charge but at Blaze they charge you extra here for extra meat/cheeses. There's pros and cons to this. Blaze has a better selection of toppings (love the ricotta), but at an added cost. read more

For $8 you get thin crust pizza with three types of base sauce to chose from - white sauce, red sauce and spicy red sauce. Always so delicious !! My go to spot for whenever I'm in the mood for some pizza. You can either select from a variety of pizza types from the menu or basically build your own pie (most popular option ) and you can add as many extra toppings for no additional charge. I personally love using the pesto as my sauce (specifically the one from the end passed the cash register , the garlic infused one at the front just isn't as good.) It always comes out so delicious ! I love that the crust is super thin making it much lighter. The pie is a pretty large size but I usually finish the whole thing in one sitting. If you don't usually have a big appetite , you'll probably get a two servings out of one pizza. Staff is always super friendly and they get through the line fairly quickly. (Although the last time I went the lady at the end wasn't super friendly when requesting the pizzas be togo and adding some more pesto on top. Not even a "have a nice day " from her. But everyone has their bad days which is understandable). All in all, this is a solid place for some pizza ! If you go UCI , you'll most likely be here all the time. It's that good. read more

I had a great late dinner with my boyfriend here at Blaze Pizza. I was hungry but not hungry enough for an entire meal, so we settled for pizza. I walked in thinking how different this place was! There was an option to make my own or pick one off the menu. I split a BBQ Chicken along with a Caesar Salad. It was so good! The pizza tasted extremely fresh and the toppings on it was perfectly balanced out. I feel like I could not finish an entire pizza by myself though, even if I was really hungry. I might be splitting it the next time I go too, or order two different ones so I dont get tired of the flavor. Overall amazing! Very close to campus, which makes me even more happy. read more

Love blaze pizza. Similar to pieology but that have some great toppings like roasted garlic, sautéed onions, zucchini, and roasted red peppers. I went with an olive oil base with ovalini mozzarella for my cheese. Love ovalini because it feels lighter than regular mozzarella with the same punch of flavor. Went grilled chicken and turkey meatballs as toppings with spinach, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and roasted garlic. Finished with a dash of pesto. Pizza came out great and the crust was perfect. My one knock is they put way too much olive oil for a base. I'll definitely ask for a light drizzle next time. Overall great variety and pizza. Overall this place is pretty good. It's greatest strength is its convience. It is really nice that you can "build your own" pizzia with unlimited toppings. Beware if you have allergies though, this place might be a hazard since everything kind of mixes due to the nature of the place. It's all the same price no matter how many toppings you get, which is nice. Super thin crust and a gluten frendly option if you can't do gluten, but again if it's an allergy contamination could pose a significant problem. The staff is nice but always rushed through because of the line and you can tell they don't really want to be there most of the time. read more

Great pizza place. The ability to order individual pizzas with a plethora of ingredients can jot be beat. This place, being on campus, does get busy... so be prepared for some wait time. But, it is well worth it. You seriously can not get a "gourmet" pizza for a better price. I love that pretty much whatever you get, it is one flat price. This place was great! I'm always in the area, but just wasn't feeling like pizza, yanno? So when the craving for pizza finally struck, I met up with the wifey over her lunch break here. And man, I'm really glad I came here. I assumed that this place would be just like your standard Pieology, which is decent, but I'm not a huge fan of. And this place IS like Pieology, at least in the way it's set up. You can choose from a selection of pizza favorites, or, as most of us like to do, go the "create your own" way. It's been awhile since I was last at a Pieology (mostly because they burned my pizza the last THREE times in a row and I had pretty much given up faith in them), so I can't quite recall just how closely their toppings align, but in any case, I can certainly say I like this place better. I really hate sausage (I know, I'm weird, haha), but I DO like meatball, something I'm sure Pieology didn't have. Not only do they have meatballs here, but they have TWO different types. When I was asking about the differences between them, the woman helping me suggested I just get both, one on each side. GENIUS! I lit up like the sun, as if such a concept had shaken me to my very core! This isn't that abnormal at all though, really. It was more just about how nice she was about it - she was smiling and bright and helpful, and really, it was just an overall pleasant experience. I'm admittedly a bit of an introvert, and I always have a hard time at places like these, where I have to attempt to speak over the buzzing people everywhere and hope that my requests are heard. She made it easy though, easily reading my expressions and and continuously asking if this was too little, too much, etc. It's a courteousness that is lost on many people these days, but oh-so appreciated. I wish they wore name tags so I could properly thank her here. And it wasn't just her - the young kid who took my initial order, while noticeably new, was the same - bright, cheery, smiling. He even complimented my shirt, haha. I felt like I was communicating with real human beings, and to be damned honest with you, service is often nearly half of the experience when eating out. Poor service can make even the best of food taste a bit soured, and vice versa. Oh, and their drinks and pretty great too. For just under $2, you can get a refillable fountain drink, or, if you'd prefer, they also have four different types of lemonade - the blood orange was definitely my favorite! If you can get a fountain drink (that YOU can refill, not spacey waiters) for at least $2 or less, you're doing it right. Both of our pizzas were done in under 10 minutes, and they double check when you go to the pick up counter that it's actually your pizza by confirming your name. It was packed full in there, and yet the staff were really on top of things. It was admirable and refreshing, to say the least. I got the Meat Eater with ricotta added on (you can add up to 2 toppings extra on any of the standard pizzas without being charged), and the wifey got... I'm not exactly sure what it was. A customized mess of a lot of stuff, haha. I felt bad that the only veggie on my pizza was onions, while she had loaded up on things like artichoke, olives, goat cheese (something they regrettably don't have at Pieology), and all sorts of yummy things. From the very first bite I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this place beat Pieology hands down. When I turned to ask the wifey, she agreed. I think we found our new go-to create-your-own pizza place. The pizza is a good size, and both of us were just able to eat half of ours. In the future, we might just get one and split it half and half to save a few bucks. But then again, Italian always makes the best leftovers, so~ [ PROS ] - Refillable fountain drinks (plus yummy lemonades!) at a reasonable price - Attentive, cheery staff who all seem to work well under pressure - Great selection of toppings (again, not sure of all the differences toppings-wise between Pieology and Blaze, but this place had meatballs and goat cheese, so just that alone puts them on top) - Only been there once, but so far, NO BURNED PIZZAS! Yay! - Tastes way better than Pieology - don't know how to describe it; maybe it's better quality ingredients? The dough is certainly better as well. - Clean restrooms - Clean restaurant overall (even with people crowding around like ants at a picnic) - An abundance of seating (including outdoors as well, if you're so inclined to take in some vitamin D) - Overall fair price for a standard personal pizza (especially given the quality and all of the options available) - There's a Poke-stop! Woot! [ CONS ] - They have wifi, but apparently it's not for guests to use. This was a bit frustrating, as my wife needed to send out an important e-mail during lunch, and instead had to go out and hunt around for another hot-spot before she could eat. read more

"Meh. I've experienced better." is exactly what I have to say about Blaze. If you guys have ever had Pieology (whether it's the Fullerton or the Irvine location), you wouldn't or shouldn't think very highly of Blaze. It's as if Pieology was Blaze's more fun, cheaper, and tastier counterpart. Why? Well Pieology lets me completely customize my pizza with unlimited toppings, they don't skimp out on the toppings at all unlike Blaze, and the crust is exquisitely thin and has the perfect texture unlike Blaze. I'm giving a star because it's still edible...and then another star because I helped myself to a cup of Blood Orange Lemonade or whatever, and that shiz was pretty good :-) read more

All for the flat rate price of $8-9 (depending on crust choice etc) Sad to hear though that they took off the steak from their menu, word is that it didn't sell well to people. So now that the Build Your Oen Pizza offers unlimited toppings, people can go crazy for that perfect pizza! They were supposed to reopen today after maintenance but they're still closed for some reason. The food is alright, but the service is so slow that at lunchtime you will regularly wait 30+ minutes for a pizza. The workers just chat idly and take their sweet time to make pizzas. read more

There are build-your-own pizza places EVERYWHERE. How can I pick a favorite? I really like Blaze because they have a great selection of toppings, especially goat cheese and fresh mozzarella (which pieology does not). Pizza tastes infinitesimally better with goat cheese. The pizza is a little oily, but nevertheless very good. Overall, the pizza is really good, and the staff is very nice and patient. read more
