Service is a mix of great and mediocre. Some people are attentive and cheerful and others look like they are forced to be here and you can barely hear what they are saying. Today 10/7/18 Sunday 12:30 they are having a party and look overwhelmed and backed up on orders. They are trying hard to keep up with the lunch crowd AND fill the party orders...yikes! As a walk in, I wonder why someone isn't dedicated to just the party orders (bad management) And thinking as a potential partygoer I would be stressed out about my guest's not receiving their pizzas in a timely manner... this idea is badly managed. First off, the inside is huge with lots of seating in two different rooms. Blaze has the typical cold modern industrial interior (concrete floors, high ceilings, exposed air ducting, metal tables and chairs). I typically avoid most modern type places like this because they are designed to attract/appeal more to younger people, and when it comes to pizza, I'm from the old-school and want authentic, traditional Italian restaurant style pizza (and table service). The Blaze system works like this. Stand in line, order your pizza, pay for your pizza, wait for it to be cooked (quick), and than it's self seating. Self serve soft drinks, and some craft beer available. The young man helping me today was very helpful. I explained to him that today was my first experience here and he was very patient explaining how everything worked. I appreciated that. The service here today was 5 stars. The pizza at Blaze was pretty good however, cooking a pizza fast like they do is not going to give you deep flavor that can only come from a pizza that takes much more time to make and bake (and using a traditional style pizza oven). Younger people these days are sadly missing out on real pizza because unfortunately, they expect all things to be instant and that's why places like Blaze exist. Sad. Thankfully, there are still some independent mom and pop traditional Italian authentic pizzerias around that make a real pizza! Search them out because when it comes to pizza, they are the real deal... Casa Bianca (Eagle Rock), Eddie's (Claremont), Mama Petrillo's (Temple City), Tony's Bella Vista (Burbank) etc. Blaze does have higher quality pizza compared to the quicky McPizza type places (Domino's, Papa John's, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut etc.) but if you're looking for traditional Italian restaurant style pizza you won't find it here at Blaze they are more about trendiness. The pizzas are made to order the only topping I didn't like was the meatball. It has a freezer or frig taste to it. Got a coupon through the mail so gave it a try. Really like the crust and toppings, and the prices are reasonable. The service was outstanding and very friendly and quick. Blaze is one of my favorite new pizza places. They have excellent topping selection, and good beer too. Their personal pizzas are filling but still a good size to split with a salad and dessert. So I was happy when they put a new one in La Verne. Me and the boys decided to try it out today. The crank those pizzas out fast! Perfect for a mom with a crazy toddler. Well when one came out a little two crispy they refired another one up before I even asked. And since I was ready to take the crispy one anyway (I hate wasting food) they gave me the other one to go. This was my first time at any blaze pizza. This one is much larger then it looks with a large room in the back past the bathrooms. We had the Art lovers on keto dough. - I really enjoyed the art lovers and the keto dough is great if you are doing keto, otherwise I would pick one of their other doughs. I hadn't realized the price is set no matter how many toppings you choose. Next time I will try making my own with millions of toppings. General manager was great. He really took care of us. But that's where the great experience ended. My pregnant fiancé and I arrived 30 mins before they closed and the two employees Gill and Dylan were waving us down to sign that they were already closed. We walked in anyways to remind them the sign says they close at 10. They told us there was only two people working at the moment so they were unable to make our pizzas.. we returned to our car while the general manager was getting out of his car parked next to us by the entrance. He assured us we would be able to get our pizzas and that they were in fact open. He apologized many times and even gave us our meal for free. We really appreciated him he was very kind. Only a couple of minutes later another two couples walked in and were helped with no problem. Then the general manager left and the employees started playing music very loudly on the speakers that was very inappropriate with lots of cursing. Luckily I didn't have my five year old son with me or I would have been more upset about this. He also gave everyone their meal for free laughing and joking saying loudly that it's free pizza after 9:30 which obviously is very bad for business. Everyone in line was given their pizzas. More people showed up and when we realized they were the employees friends we also saw that Dylan was vaping near them inside of the dining room. Hadn't been to Blaze for several months because the last few times it was a disaster. The area around the toppings were so messy. Plus, the containers were typically nearly empty. When I received my pizza there a few months ago it was burnt. I made a mention of it and the employee said that's how they are. There was no offer to remake it either. On today's visit, the greeting employee, Thomas (who I later learned was his first day of pizza making), took my order with much respect and friendliness. I was already surprised with just that improvement. Then in waiting for the pizza to be cooked the mgr. Cassy was training Thomas how to cook and handle it, and with much patience I might add. It's been about a month since this place started going down hill, the lack of staff is extremely evident. The lack of training causes major problems, you can't just hire people and expect them to be ready to go in hours. This location is extremely badly managed. I come here on a weekday after work, to grab a BYD pizza. I come here around 6pm and the workers were rushing me to choose my toppings, they just didn't want to work at all. They were just talking amongst themselves rather than doing their job. I understand that you don't care about your job and you don't want to be here, but at least try to do your job better. OMG!!! The BEST Blaze Pizza ever! I walk in and am shocked at the size (very spacious) and vibe of the place. They have TVs with various sports games on...almost like a sports bar! I go to order and I am immediately greeted by their very friendly and hard working employees. They are attentive and make sure you are happy with the amount of toppings and sauce on your pizza. They also ask how you would like your pizza cooked. I have never been to a Blaze Pizza with employees like that and 99% of my experience at the several locations I have visited have been excellent! We came in to grab some pizzas today and there was a bit of a line (about 5 people in front of us). We noticed the line was moving really slow...but we stayed anyway. When we finally got up to the front to order, the machine kept spitting out what seemed like receipts. There were already about 20 others laying on the counter. I looked at one and realized those were online orders coming in. The girl at the front asked another coworker what to do... you could tell she waw overwhelmed and they couldn't handle it. A few toppings and sauces were completely out, and the guy making our pizzas struggled to find the toppings to refill the containers. Our trip here and back home ended up taking almost 2 hours. And we only live about 12 minutes away. Horrible. I feel SO bad for all those people who had online orders because they were just being shoved to the side and ignored. Management definitely needs to step it up and provide more support for busy times and better training. The food was actually great. This blaze pizza facility is extremely clean. That's always a number one thing for me and this place really shows that they maintain their restaurant well. I waited in line for a good 4 mins before I was helped by the sweet and polite Averi. She was very courteous with her way of words. She did an absolutely amazing job. Every time I come here (which is often) most of the employees look miserable and clearly show that they hate their job. I've seen employees be disrespectful and make rude remarks, roll their eyes, ignore thank you's, and barely acknowledge people during the transaction process. 9 out of 10 times their customer service is simply the forced interaction that their pay (which we contribute to) requires. I am actually shocked at the amount of positive reviews on this location. If you can spare a ten/fifteen minute drive to the Claremont location, they're a LOT better than the La Verne. The other day, I ordered a pizza on mobile, and came fifteen minutes after it said it would be ready. It wasn't ready, but hey, things happen, so I go back to the car and the bf stands in line waiting. The man next to him says he's been waiting for his mobile order for forty minutes, and they both look over and see the stack of mobile boxes. The manager is grabbing the mobile boxes and switching them with the boxes of the customers that come in, and therefore all the inside customers were getting their pizzas when all the mobile ones were not. They do not do it in order that they receive, they do the mobile orders "when they have time." The employee keeps adding more and more time, first telling him "4 more minutes" then "5 more minutes," ext. Then, when the bf saw our pizza boxes continuously being moved to the end of the line, he asked again for an update, the manager snapped, "LORRAINE is a GIRLS name, why is HE asking for it?!" Umm ... excuse you.. okay. Anyway, we get our pizzas after the bf keeps nagging about it and the guy finally decides to make them (felt bad for the guy who had been waiting for his mobile order for almost an hour at that point, and we got ours before he did), the pizza was low quality compared to what we've come to expect from other locations (a lot smaller amount of cheese than normal, some pockets of a lot of sauce some pockets of no sauce and then lots of pockets of the pizza that didn't even contain cheese, so every few bites was a cheeseless pizza, lmao). But hey, pizza is pizza and by now I'm annoyed too and I'm texting the bf to come back. Anyway, we realized they were busy when we got home because it was PI day and they were promoting extremely inexpensive pizzas in-stores, which made us even MORE irritated because we paid full price through the mobile app so we should not have been pushed to the end. I think they deserve a 1/5. I think they deserve at most a 2/5. I'm giving them a 3/5 because according to the bf (I was waiting in the car at that time), when the manager snapped about my name being a girls name, the employee who was handling the pizzas turned around and gave him a mean look as if to say "what is wrong with you," which again, I found hilarious. Anyway, this is just ONE isolated incident of the MANY negative occurrences I have had here. The Claremont location is a 10-15 minute drive from this one and staff is so much friendlier and VERY fast. I always give mobile orders about an extra 15 minutes from the time the app thinks it will be ready just because I know how it goes, but the Claremont one is always extraordinarily fast and I have never once dealt with rude employees- in addition, the managers in that location are very nice and on point! read more
