I love this place. Good food, great atmosphere,good music,awesome patio.. BUT if you are looking for a real Hot Brown, they missed the boat. If you don't know about the Hot Brown, it is an open faced turkey sandwich topped w. (lots of) mornay sauce then broiled. The classic has bacon and tomato on top. The Squirrel's version had most of the ingredients but if it had any mornay it was very little.Probably too hard to keep the sauce ready just in case it gets ordered. It had a crust of broiled cheddar instead. Tasty but NOT a Hot Brown. Lots of local restaurants do their own twist but that should be stated on the menu. read more

We came here for the first time on a Wednesday around 6pm. It was enjoyable all of the way around. We loved the atmosphere, the service, the food...just everything about it. My children really enjoyed the kid's salad and mac and cheese. I ordered the huge nacho appetizer as an entree for myself and the kids, but 5 of us ended up eating it and still didn't finish it. You won't leave here with an empty stomach or an empty wallet. We will definitely return to try other menu items. read more

This was our first time and we were celebrating our daughters bday. The place is cool with lots of extra seating and TVs on for sports. Overall the food was good, but the service was fair at best. The bartender was rude and the server left us sitting without drinks for 30 minutes and did just the bare minimum to get by. Staff needs training before the experience will improve. read more

I have tried this place twice Since it's opening in Florence and on both occasions I was somewhat disappointed with my selection of food. The first visit I had the basil tomato soup with a Cesar salad, the soup had a good flavor but was to cold for my liking, the Cesar salad was pretty much a crouton salad with an oil dressing. The second visit was yesterday and I ordered the fish sandwich and my wife ordered the mountain of nachos with the guacamole on the side. The mountain of nachos was very good even without the guacamole. The fish sandwich was absolutely horrible to say the least, it had two pieces of fish that was paper thin and breading that was twice the thickness of the fish, I should have gone to Frisch's. So much for the food I'm sure if I go back again I will find something to my liking. the Atmosphere is fantastic and I will try this place one more time before I call it three and out. read more

Originally went to drop off my daughter with friends, but after stepping inside I decided to stay for the evening. What a great spot in Middletown. I felt like I was at the beach watching volleyball. It's clean, comfortable, kid friendly and just fun! The beers were good. I didn't have any food on this visit, but definitely want to go back for dinner and listen to the live music. Upscale sports bar. As it is new, and everyone is trying it out, the wait can be long to get a table or to order from the bar if you are only there for drinks. My party ordered several different menu items and none disappointed! The burger was huge and delicious. The pizza was as good as most pizza parlors. The hit was the incredible BLT! Service was good, no sooner than our drinks were empty our server was there to ask if we wanted a refill. The place is huge with live music on most nights. If you don't enjoy loud, you might want to ask for a table farther from the musicians as it gets quite loud and the acoustics are poor. While the acoustics are poor, the vibe is fun! There are even cigar lockers and cigar sales! The bar is huge and beautiful, it is made of stone and wood. TVs are everywhere! While it was too cold to enjoy during January, the outdoor area was cool too, huge patio with outdoor games etc. One word of warning, if you are looking for a quiet meal and intimate conversation, this is not the place. Heard about a relatively new place called "The Blind Squirrel" from a friend of mine and decided to check it out Saturday night, 16 June. The place labels itself with the three tag words; "MUSIC. GRUB. SPORTS." These words are apropos considering the atmosphere of the place strikes a happy medium between a sports bar and a nightclub. The have two levels, including a cigar room, for those of us who enjoy a good stogie from time to time, as well as two volleyball courts in the back of the complex for those who want to participate in sports rather than just watch them. They also have a stage for live music, a welcome addition to a restaurant/pub and a good way to fulfill the "music" portion of their three word slogan. The restaurant portion of the establishment is pretty sizable with dining areas bifurcated by the live music stage and, presumably, a smallish dance floor. The bar is quite large and very nicely appointed with a creek stone type facing on the under bar as well as some really nice accent lighting. Behind the bar are nicely placed pulls for the variety of draft beers they serve (which are numerous) as well as some nice lighting to accent the other, various spirits available. Being a sports bar, there are, of course, obligatory televisions pretty much everywhere, but much to my surprise, I found them remarkably unobtrusive and the overall volume of the place, while loud, was thankfully not deafening (with the exception of the super-loud birthday party going on) to my 54 year-old ears. I didn't get a chance to visit the upper floor on this visit and it was way too humid to take advantage of the outdoor seating (IMHO), but I'm sure I'll be back during more pleasant weather to explore those options. On to the grub portion of the review. TBS has a fairly broad menu consisting mainly of upscale pub chow and pizzas. My wife and I started with Ashley's Potato Skins, since skins are a perennial favorite of ours. They arrived roughly 10 minutes after ordering and, while somewhat small, were nonetheless loaded with flavor and blazingly hot. The thick cut bacon was well-cooked and evenly distributed as were the cheeses and the scallions. One of the high points of them, however, was the spicy sour cream! It is addictive stuff, smooth, creamy, pale pinkish and carrying a devilish kick of spices and flavor. I would eat this stuff just by itself with a spoon! LOL! For dinner, I ordered Tom and Todd's Heavenly BBQ Burger with Twister Fries and my wife got the Pulled Pork Sandwich. For as busy as the place was, our food arrived in a fairly timely fashion. I had ordered my burger medium rare, but it was closer to medium well, but with the accompanying toppings of pulled pork, thick, hickory bacon, cheese and onion straws (with BBQ sauce on the side), it still tasted pretty good, with a nice fresh, but sturdy bun that prevented the burger as a whole from falling apart. My wife said her pulled pork was a bit on the dry side, which it was, but, again, the addition of the house BBQ sauce helped to alleviate some of the overall dryness of the meat. The Twister Fries we got were tasty and substantial, though nothing like the ribbon fries I get at the State Fair, which was how I imagined them. They were, however, excellent ketchup-dipping fries, always important to me for a french fry. As mentioned earlier, TBS has a really nice bar, looks very relaxed without looking like a trolling ground for predators, which is always nice. They have a huge array of beers on draught, which I really appreciate (about 36 if my count is correct) including all of the usual sports bar lagers, but also a wide array of craft and specialty beers. I had a Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan pint to start which was reddish to dark brown, but remarkably clear and pleasantly malty rather than bitingly hoppy. After dinner, our waitress, who was a sweetheart and very knowledgeable regarding the different brews available, let me try samples of a wheat beer brewed with mango, which was pretty good, and also a sour beer (which I do enjoy a lot) called Sweetwater Tropical Lover. Suffice to say, the sour beer won out and we sat and listened to the chit chat in the restaurant and caught part of Caribou's (the band playing that night) opening set whilst I enjoyed my Tropical Lover. Appetizer, dinners and beers all amounted to about a $50 bill and we have our waitress a $10 tip. Overall, I give The Blind Squirrel four stars at the moment, but I'm sure that, upon return visits, and once they've really settled into their groove, they'll become a five star place that I will enjoy visiting frequently. I've been to blind squirrel with my family several times. Definitely not my favorite place, but I have to say that it's really cool and fun. One time, my mom got blackened pizza, but my pizza was amazing, and I wish that I could eat it again. Their macaroni is to die for, and overall, a very cool place. You should try it out. At a wait of 1:30 minutes, we took our name off the list and went to the car. Perhaps the worst dining/waiting experience of my life. Quick Tuesday dinner! My two-year old is a pizza snob but enjoyed & are most of his cheese pizza. My hubby got the dry-rub wings which he thought were delicious & a Tex-Mex burger, but thought the chili was bland. I had the All-American burger which was a great size, nicely cooked & filling. The server was attentive & fast. At the end, the manager let my son pick two toys from a prize box! That right sealed the deal for me. When you pull in the parking lot this place is very impressive and looks like a fun place to hang out. We walked in and was seated next to the large windows overlooking the sand volleyball court. Was a little set back by how many servers we saw in this only 1/3 full restaurant and bar. Must have been 10 servers for only 40-50 patrons. That wasn't a big deal until we sat there for nearly 15 minutes without anyone approaching our table. I actually had to ask for someone to come take our order. When they did another person walked up and told the first server this wasn't going to be their table so the wait continues (I have a lot of patience). Finally got some drinks ordered with an slight attitude from the server. This continued over the next hour. No water was offered, we weren't asked if our food was ok... nothing but attitude. I get it, we all have bad days but come on we tried to lighten the mood but to no avail. The wings and pizza were excellent!!! A tad over priced but excellent! We asked and was told this place had only been open a month so we will wait a bit and give them another chance. I always give places two chances. Wish me luck! This is our second time trying the Blind Squirrel. The first time the parking lot was too crowded and my husband was on call, he wasn't feeling the stress. The second time, no volleyball was going on and my husband wasn't on call, and we decided to go inside. It was crowded, we were worried there wouldn't be seats because we arrived just as the game started, but there was plenty of space! There are a ton of TVs, we came for the UofL game, but UK was also playing. There is ping pong and corn hole outside. The booze prices are good, decent specials too. There is a stage for live music. The staff was prompt. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese. Those took a bit, but again, it was busy and lunch time. But that cheese! Flavorful, slightly spicy, and surprisingly, there was some leftover! I feel like I'm often needing more cheese when I order beer cheese, but this was a generous serving. We also split chicken tenders, nothing special, but I loved the spiral fries and sauces This is a great place for a causal dinner/lunch or game day! read more

I gave them a try. The food was normal over priced bar food. I was ok with that. The issue I had was the band. They must have set everything to max volume because the mic's were maxed and caused the singing to be very distorted. It made eating there very unpleasant. Horrible experience. Go anywhere else. 1. How many hostesses does it take to screw up seating? Apparently 6 because that's how many they have. They said our table was ready but it wasn't. Then one of the host was rude to our group because we were standing where they told us to stand. There are nice ways of dealing with people, especially after you just screwed them over on seating. Bad start! 2. Don't plan on having a conversation. It's so loud in here. There is nothing in place to absorb any noise. Concrete floors. High ceiling. Lots of open space. So..... lots of echoing and noise. Had To Scream To Have A CONVERSATION. Then there was a guitar guy. Hard to hear him. Bad speakers. No big loss. 3. Bathrooms. I mean come on...... seriously. For a place this big 1 commode and 3 urinals are not sufficient. I see big problems in the future. 4. Food. One appetizer was forgotten. My food was cooked wrong and one order was completely wrong. If good service is important to you go somewhere else! The last 3 times I have been at the Squirrel service at the table has been terrible. Last night was the last straw. I brought customers to the Squirrel for dinner, as they are moving into town and I thought this would be a fun place to go. Our party of 4 was seated by a host and a few minutes a hostess came over and said we couldn't sit there because it was assigned to someone else. We pointed out the person who seated us. She didn't care. She was very unkind, so much so, one of my customers asked if we could just go somewhere else for the evening. We got up and left, went to another nearby establishment and ended up having a great time. Another night, while seated for dinner, my friend told the waiter her mixed drink wasn't very good. It didn't taste right. The waiter didn't ask if he could get her another drink, apologize or offer any help. There are plenty of places in Louisville to spend my time and money and take customers. Ordered a very large beer cheese burger and fries. It was a bit chilly outside, but inside it was very comfortable. Service was very fast and food was served hot and fresh. It says family friendly and I think that is actually true to a certain extent. With live music going on the place is so loud it would be impossible for a family to really enjoy their meal. Other than that it is a very large facility, has a very nice bar and once fully built should be a really nice place to hang out when warm. read more
