Excellent dinner this evening with our children and grandchildren. Host and server very attentive and made us few very welcome. We all had one of their specialty hamburgers. I had an opportunity to dine here last evening. This place is situated in downtown Castle Rock. It's right down the block from the fairly new B's Deli. It's the same owner. When I arrived here yesterday it was about 4pm and it wasn't too crowded. I didn't need a reservation. They sat me at an end table next to a middle row of booths. I had a nice view of the bar with the flat screen televisions. It was good that I dined here during Happy Hour because they have reasonable prices on their drinks. I ordered a house salad with a Malbec for starters. The house salad was a large portion with plenty of vegetables. My only feedback for the salad is that it offers too much greens and not enough tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. I feel that they skimped on these. Croutons were delicious. Also, they offer a choice of small or large house salad. For my entree I ordered the roast beef stroganoff. It comes with a dry fried vegetable type plant. It was different. I wasn't a big fan of this. If I order this again, I will order without it. The roast beef stroganoff was good but a little overpriced. It's a nice hearty meal that will fill you up. Kudos to them for offering just the right amount of portion, not too small and not too big. They were on point with this. For dessert I ordered their Scratch Bread Pudding. It's made with golden raisins and cranberries (love that they use cranberries), topped with vanilla ice cream and creme anglaise. The creme anglaise was phenomenal. Bread pudding was great too! I feel that they bread pudding could've been heated more thoroughly. It was plenty warm on the edges but as I dug towards the center, it was firm and cold. Management - please ask prep staff to heat this up properly. You have a phenomenal dessert here which would be served best by proper heating. Don't overheat. Just somewhere in the middle. Also, bread pudding goes well with a cup of coffee. I ordered a decaf which was good. It wasn't a cheap brand. My server was friendly but could speak up when talking. She wasn't easy to listen to. I had to lean towards her and position my ear up so that I could properly hear her. However, I do like that she didn't have an attitude nor felt burdened by being at work. My total bill of sale was a little too pricey. Overall, I feel that they're a little overpriced here. I agree with another reviewer who indicated that it wasn't awful here nor was it great. I will probably return another day to order their Brick Chicken. It looks good and I've had this dish at another restaurant. Curious to see how it tastes. Also, kudos to the manager who was very friendly. He walked me out the door when I left and held the door open for me. This was a very nice gentlemanly gesture. I very much appreciate that. Came here twice so far. Brunch and Lunch. Both times were great. Staff was very friendly and food was delicious. Mimosa and Bloody Mary were good too. There is a parking garage in the same building so you don't have to find street parking. I will be back for sure to try some items I couldn't get to. Fresh on the block, Block and Bottle offers another venue for eatery to the downtown Castle Rock area. If you didn't know, next door is their deli shop and up the street is their pizzeria. Parking can be nuts unless you can find one street front. We happened to score a spot in the parking garage after doing laps for 20 minutes. The public parking is pretty limited so be patient. Staff is always great and friendly. Madison was our bartender and also waited on us. Service is pretty quick even on weekends. Both times I have dined here, it has been for lunch. Plenty of seating without much of a wait for a table. The patio is quaint and would be perfect for al fresco dining with the fire pits. If you want to warm up, order the New Holland Brewing Bourbon Barrel-Aged Stout or have the spicy Bloody Mary. They also have wine bottles ranging from $30-70 and carried my faves like Boen and Katherine Goldschmidt. The shiitake mushrooms were good and had a great smokey flavor with the touch of spice from the sriracha sauce. The mussels and chorizo is hearty as an entree with generous portions of chorizo in the dish. I will say the black and blue burger lacked flavor but the rosemary truffle fries made up for it. I still haven't tried the veggie sandwich but it looks tempting. The ambience is more a casual neighborhood spot to grab a meal. I support any restauranteur trying to add to the local food scene here in the South Suburban area. Really nice atmosphere and location, plenty of room at breakfast. Came back for breakfast a second time after a good breakfast a few months ago. This time I can only give it two stars. The bacon was burnt - both pieces were dried out and almost black. They shattered on the plate. It was kind of shocking that someone put multiple pieces on a plate and sent it out of the kitchen. The server was not very welcoming generally (seemed a bit put out by our table of middle aged women), and he plunked down the burned bacon without comment. The eggs and potatoes were nicely cooked. This charming restaurant has a great dog-friendly patio, and the staff seem to really love our four-legged friends. The food is delicious as well! On our first visit, I had the Block BB(elly)LTA, a scrumptious feast of pork belly, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado, with a fried egg for extra deliciousness, and an extra spicy Bloody Mary. My wife had the Monte Cristo sandwich and said it was the best she's had in many years. We took our son and daughter in law here for our second visit after enjoying the Castle Rock Arts Festival in early September. We shared the Smoked Salmon Pastrami Crostini and everybody loved it. Son and DIL each got the BBLTA with fried egg as described above and enjoyed it every bit as much as I did. My wife and I each had the Bacon Hatch Cheddar BBQ Burger, add avocado. Definitely one of the best burgers I've had out in a long time. The fries were excellent as well - nice and crispy on the outside with a soft center, just the way I like 'em. The wait staff is friendly and attentive without hovering, and all seem to be happy working there. The interior is very nicely appointed and decorated, but we've only sat outside with our dogs. Stopped in for lunch with some old friends. Felt great to be inside on a very warm day, cool looking open bar area if you could handle the heat though. The service was a little on the slow side, but the food more than made up for it. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich for lunch, and we tried a few of their drinks. The chicken was perfectly fried, tender and moist. My only complaint might have been that it wasn't hot, the sweetness of the honey really came through, but I was perfectly okay because the flavor was soo good. I had the velvet revolver which was nice and stiff, but still had a chocolatey velvet smooth finish (appropriately named). The food was fantastic with a great mix of flavors. The avocado toast had a perfectly smoke pastrami with the salmon. The relish was a mix of cucumber, onion and tomato. Scooped up every bite. Have been here a few times and food has always been good. Two people in our group of four had salads. I had an Italian sandwich with side salad, the salad was wilted, I think it was under the heat lamp, because plate felt a little warm. Another person had steak salad that had the same issue (wilted greens). All other food was good, loved my sandwich, my wife had the gnocchi and loved it. Three had cocktails, all loved the drinks. we have been traveling from New Mexico up to Denver, and we needed a break. We looked on our maps for a place to grab some food and let the kids stretch their legs. I asked my server what she suggested, and her pic was the chicken and waffles. I do not usually order chicken and waffles, but I am so happy I did. The flavor was extremely unique, and delicious! my son had the basic kids breakfast, which was perfect. And my husband had a quiche, which was very good too. This is our second time visiting, and we came for happy hour and ordered a couple of appetizers. The chicharrones are freshly fried and still popping when they come to the table, served with a Cheese sausage dip. We also got the bacon wrapped shrimp. I had a couple of very nice glasses of wine, and my husband had an Old Fashioned. It was Sunday, and they were pretty busy with a new bartender, so things took a little while, but not too bad. And we only waited about 10 minutes for seating. Our waitress, Colleen, is so special that's a great job! What a delightful evening we had at Block and Bottle! We decided on an early night out (yes...we are nearing that age ) and chose Block and Bottle. At first we were going to have a main meal but when seated (the manager??) we were told the bacon wrapped shrimp was really good. No lie! So delicious! Large shrimp wrapped in bacon with a bit of heat teriyaki sauce over Asian slaw. The shrimp were a good size and the bacon was crispy...how did they do that? Pic only shows 2 but you get 4. Hubby said he would order this as his meal. Mussels? So darn good, but this is why BB only got 3 stars. If you compare my pic to the others, you might be wondering ...where's the chorizo....? Yeah, not a lot at all, you could fill our spoon with all the sausage, and that was disappointing. BUT, the mussels were cooked perfectly and the sauce was oh so good! Twelve of us enjoyed Saturday brunch at Block & Bottle last weekend. We were able to make a pretty last minute reservation and they accommodated us kindly. This is a good sized space and at no time did I feel cramped or too close to the neighboring parties. That was really nice. We parked in the garage behind (or maybe attached to) the building. That made life simple. Our server was very nice despite being a little overwhelmed. I think Block & Bottle is newer to the brunch game, so they are still smoothing out the wrinkles. Most of the plates were cleared. I think I was the only one with leftovers (that's a me thing and no reflection on how good the food was). Because it was all very good! I opted for pot roast and eggs (but I'm not an egg person so I swapped for fruit). It came with breakfast potatoes that were reminiscent of homemade potato chips and I chose the sourdough toast. I was able to get the freshly made jam at the end of the meal and it was tasty even if it was a little more liquidy than I would have expected. The pot roast had great flavor! Most of the table enjoyed mimosas with a variety of juice options and bloody Mary's from what I could gather. Empty glasses all around led me to believe the drinks were tasty too. Came back to Block and Bottle today, this time for lunch. Have decided after having two separate cocktails, one each visit, I wouldn't order another here; they seem to be more filler than anything else. Not that a drink should knock me down, but maybe put enough of the spirit(s) in to justify the price and be noticeable flavor-wise. The Cuban sandwich would be amazing but is completely ruined by their Dijon; not sure if it has excessive mustard powder or something else in it, but it is overwhelmingly horseradish tasting and made the sandwich inedible. (By overwhelmingly I mean my sinuses were not cleared, they HURT!) Ask for yellow mustard instead. The grilled ham and cheese is very good! A little salty, but not distractingly so. We wanted to try the Reuben but for some reason they put sour cream in the sauerkraut and that seemed bizarre so we skipped it. Side salad was okay, nothing really to it. Some leaf lettuce, a crouton and a couple of cherry tomato halves. Balsamic dressing was also okay. Fries were good. Side portions could be bigger; noticed the same when I came for brunch last time and the side of fruit was 4 very small bites of melon. read more

While the food here is usually great the service consistently sucks. It takes far too long for a server to address the table. The sad part is they are never really that busy when we come in. Yet we wait typically over 30 minutes just to order a drink. Today was the last straw when we waited 40 minutes to get a drink order in and the server was clearly annoyed with us for asking for someone to serve us!!! After our first sodas sat empty for over 20 minutes my sister had to walk up to the bar with the glasses just to get them filled!!!! For the prices they charge and the service they offer this place is a joke and this is the last time I will be coming. My family all loved their meals!! The Cajun Caesar salad is okay, not sure what makes it cajun there's no cajun taste and just plain. The croutons taste like corn bread but they were an odd texture they should of been either soft or crunchy but they were oddly in the middle kinda tasted stale. I think they could work on the presentation of the food as well. Also, it is very loud inside so try sitting outside if there is a lot of people! My dad said that the ruben is the best ruben he has ever had in his life! I also heard that the Cuban was very delicious too. The grilled cheese is okay.
