First restaurant we tried in Banff! It has a great rating so I figured it would be a great start. Ok, so if I could do half stars I would and id give this a 4.5 but that is not optional I guess. So let's start with the restaurant itself. A bit more reasonable proce wise than other places in Banff but still offering quality options and unique choices for food. Part of the reason they did not receive 5 stars is the staffwas not the friendliest. Now, they were not mean butt deff not friendly. There were 2 makes and one female working. The female was the friendliest but the males were not so much. I'm sure they deal with all sorts of tourists all day so maybe it was just the day but I guess when out and about your expecting a friendly getting or expression/acknowledgment in someshape or form. Whatever though, let's move past that. My husband has the burger and I had a flatbread with bison and goatcheese etc. They were both very good! We also stated with the Kimchi pork dumplings which were yum! I'd eat there again but it is small inside and can get crowded quick. Pricing again was reasonable, ambience was nice, staff was eh.. Probably have to give them another try one day. The food 7.5 out of 10. Deff a shot to check out if your in Banff and not trying to drop $100 on a meal!! read more

We are tourists and wanted a night for GOOD FOOD before we left. GO HERE!!!! Incredible cocktails and we ordered a bunch of tapas. Every. Single. Dish. Was mouthwatering. I don't recommend places unless they are GREAT. We got the steak which was on special, the best calamari we have all ever had, gyoza dumplings, fries that were THE BOMB...everything was ridiculous. We passed this place the first night, and settled on it the second night. Big mistake not coming here the first time! This was the best meal we had in Banff- more fusion than Asian. The menu is a great blend of surf and land. We got the spicy prawns (shrimp), hanger steak, and the Thai curry mussels. Came here while on vacay with my hubby early June and it was easy to get a table around 7. However it is a small place and I can see it getting busy during high season. I had the chimchurri steak which was tender and succulent - perfect for those who like a medium raw steak. My hubby had the curry (which was a special at the time I think) and it was delicious. It came with both naan and bread (perfect for my carb-aholic hubby) with rich red curry with lots of coconut milk. The restaurant itself despite the small size is very modern and hipster - I though we were back in TO on Queen St W. I definitely recommend coming here and make reservations! read more

Went back for a second time for dinner. The curry special was excellent as any I'd had in the Bay Area. Deliciously spicy balanced, with big succulent slices of chicken and a generous helping of rice, naan and a helping of pickled veggies. Curry mussels were fresh and its sauce milder with more emphasis on coconut milk. Duck spring rolls were good and crispy. I was so looking forward to the chocolate tostadas bit disappointed by the chocolate sauce on bread, which is all it is, because there was too much salt, no evidence of chili or olive oil. Stop by early to get a seat without a wait. We stopped in around 6pm and were immediately able to sit. Menu had a lot of interesting choices and the bar menu was on point as well. If you're looking for interesting food, this is the place. The kitchen does excellent work and leans Asian, but it's very eclectic. I ordered the 3 dip tapas and had there pork belly naan sandwhich my partner had there burger. The dip was $12 and we got...one tablespoon of hummus, one table spoon of egg plant dip and some almond pesto.....The almond pesto was really watery no texture what so ever, it was hard to eat it because it was so watery, we sipped it with a straw. The hummus was good but with i tablespoon worth?? Hummus is not an expensive dip...i would rather they took away the water pesto and gave more hummus. Egg plant dip was good...but my partner did not enjoy it at all. The pork belly sandwhich wad messy and very salty. The salt overwhelmed the sandwhich. I did find the pea shoots were tough so i think it would of been better if they put watercress or arugala (sp?) Their shoe string fries were great...hot and crispy. Over all the place was ok. I walked into Block looking forward to good food and a fun time in a hip place. I got neither. The greeting I got was unfriendly. The wait staff didn't offer me water. They took 15 minutes to ask what I wanted to drink. The food was over seasoned with way too much salt on one appetizer and bland on the next. The staff was slammed, and I could forgive them for being slow to help me but I'm sorry I do expect at least a smile. They gave that to the friends who came buy to sit at their bar and talk for a few minutes. If you want better service and better food save some dollars and go next door to Coyotes where I had a great meal and great service the day before. At Block they didn't even point out the specials!!?? For Pete's sake if you own a business make the customer feel welcome! read more

This place was straight-up awesome all-around. Had the charcuterie and cheese board which featured a good variety of local and house-made items. Next was the pork belly topped burger, great flavor and bun. This was paired with a great side salad; again, a lot of great flavor. Fries were thin-cut and well-seasoned. Interesting beer selection. I had a pale ale from New Brunswick and an IPA from BC, both went well with the food. The wine list was small, but some good options which paired well with the food. Our server Chevon was friendly and attentive. Would definitely return and explore the menu further. read more

Good vibe! The place is small. Tables, kitchen and bar are very close to each other and it seats about 30 ppl when full. The menu has interesting choices and most flavours are really good and new. My advice: don't over use the coconut oil and the ragout needs to come out of the menu. read more

We were so fortunate to be there at the right time as we were able to walk in w/o rsvp and got the last table available right away. This place seems to be very popular. The size of the restaurant is small and cozy, but the flavour of their food is Über!! Love every thing we ordered. We ordered one of their special that night, Braised bison ribs which was so finger lickin good, the korean inspired sauce was absolutely the key to that amazing item! Well worth the stop!! Small, quaint and cozy. Great variety and satisfying. Lettuce wraps and beef Tataki were wonderful.

bad service. waiting for the queue 1 hour and 20 minutes. although we were told that 35-40 minutes waiting list. they let in all of us. then asked, not spicy from eating. we were told that it was not very sharp. but they brought very sharp food that I could not eat it. As a result, I returned the dish. We were splurging so had the cocktails which were very tasty but expensive. We liked everything on the menu so asked the bartender to bring out his favorites. We had the calmari and pork belly lettuce wraps followed by the mussels in a peanut soup broth (this could be an entree by itself). These three appetizers were great. Flavorful and unique. We were pretty full at this point. The fourth and final entree was beef with a shredded japanese radish and green onions. My son liked this, but I found it a little bland. This place has a cool hipster vibe, and its a contemporary style so all the dishes are fairly small relative to the price you're paying. Then again you are in a national park so you can expect things to be pricey.
