It was tasty, though the chips themselves weren't that exciting. Then, we shared the chicken tortilla soup which was out of this world. My husband declared it the best chicken tortilla soup he has had. We loved the presentation, the flavor profile as well as the texture profile. The food was amazing. Highly recommend en fuego steak tacos. They are more like fajitas and have great flavor. The stuffed sopapilla was ok, I think the waiter brought it out a little late as the ice cream was more cream than ice. Onto why I didn't give it 5 stars. The service was terrible!!!! Our waiter came over with water and didn't offer any other drinks. Two of us were able to order drinks with our meal and when the third person tried he fully ignored them. We tried 4 different times to get his attention to order the drink while we waited for our food and he never acknowledged or stopped by. He was working the tables around us and we found he was very friendly for the most part with other tables. I thought it was just us then realized us and one other table were older groups and he basically ignored both tables. Towards the end of the evening he was talking to another table about what NOT to order for dinner as it is terrible and just not worth the cost. I understand answering the what do you recommend when people ask, but going into detail about what and why not to order something is loudly enough that other tables can hear is not very professional. read more

Usually, coming here is a good experience, but this last visit was quite the opposite. Our server only spoke to me and ignored my partner, who was paying. I ordered a burger cooked medium, but it came out very rare. We sent it back to be cooked a little longer, but only after flagging down another server, as ours was nowhere to be found. While waiting, I finished my beer. Several workers walked by and even came to our table, yet no one asked if I'd like to order another drink. I feel it's common courtesy to make a customer feel as comfortable as possible, especially when their order isn't prepared correctly. Eventually, our server returned to let me know the kitchen was working on my burger and asked if we wanted it to go, as my partner had already finished eating. What should have taken less than 10 minutes to fix ended up taking over 30. We were offered a complimentary brownie and a $15 voucher for our next visit. However, this didn't cover the $21 burger. Since I wasn't even able to eat my burger at the restaurant due to the delay, I expected it to be taken off the bill--but instead, the restaurant tried to compensate with "extras." As I said earlier, we usually love coming here, but after tonight's service, we're hesitant to return. read more

I'll start with saying the food is 5 stars or close to it, the ambiance is plenty adequate, and the service both times I've been has been mostly good. Why a 2 star rating? The sneaky up-charge for the sour cream and guacamole. $2 for sour cream? $3 for guac? Ok sure, food prices are high. But if you're going to charge that: 1) Fill the ramekins to the top. Ours were filled halfway at best. 2) Instruct your staff to tactfully be more transparent. Simply using words like "upgrade" when asking if the table wants these sides avoids being tacky while also making it clear that they're not complimentary. Not present it like it's some favor like our server did. 3) This is my biggest issue. Show the up-charge on the itemized receipt. Don't just increase the price with zero reference or indication as to why the price increased. I've worked in countless restaurants as a server, bartender, and manager from North Carolina to California and never in all my years have I seen an itemized receipt without all the items and charges listed separately. Other restaurants do it. Safeway does it. Why not here? And yes I'm sure this up-charge is mentioned in the fine print of the menu somewhere, but neither myself nor my other two dinner mates saw it, so it mustn't be too obvious. As good as the food is here it's a shame that what we remember just as much is the nickel and dime-ing for the sides and the lack of transparency through both the server and "itemized" receipt. read more

I was so disappointed. I carefully planned our restaurants for our trip to CO. Because of the reviews and food descriptions, Blue Agave made the list. The Margaritas were just ok. The guac is not fresh. It tasted like the type from grocery tubs. Kind of pastry. The Ceasar salad was terrible. The croutons are sweet fried cornbread, and I'm not sure what they did with the tomatoes. I think they were blistered and marinated. Fresh would've been better. I could only eat a little. I got the blue corn enchiladas with asada. They were full of cheese with only 3-4 small pieces of meat in each one. No sauce. The beans were cold. We left 2/3 of our meal uneatten. I went here on a Sunday to meet a friend. The location is wonderful in Old Town Fort Collins. However, be prepared to circle the block for parking. The restaurant is a bit dark, and we were hoping to have time to chat. Unfortunately, the bottomless mimosas (great deal) caused the two tables next to us to be extremely loud. This is, of course, no fault of the establishment. But be prepared for larger parties drinking mimosas in the am. I mean, they were absolutely delicious and a great bargain at $14. Where this establishment gets three stars for me, though, is the food. I ordered Chili Lime Chicken Tacos. They come out on standard sized corn tortillas. You can see from my picture that they are not super full. The biggest thing for me was how dry everything was. The chicken was soooo dry, the sauce was barely wet, and the food had minimal flavor. Would I go here again? Actually, yes. I'd try it one more time and see what my good turns out like. However, I will say my frie da omelet even looked dry. read more

The menu looked terrific and I ended up getting the Signature Asada, which is marinated skirt steak with corn pico de gallo, as well as one shrimp and lobster enchilada with a side of cilantro rice. The steak had terrific flavor and was cooked to order (medium) but clearly the highlight of dinner was the shrimp and lobster enchilada - it was money and I could have eaten two or three more! People are always debating the quality of seafood when dining inland. I now have had THREE incredible experiences at Blue Agave Grill. The scene is very lively, with traditional Mexican art on the walls. The medium-low lighting provides closeness at your table and effectively sequesters you from other tables. There was music in the background, very subtle but adds to the ambience. The first thing you need to do (as a 21+ individual) is order the margarita flight! It's the perfect set of 4 tasters that span traditional, slightly spicy, frozen(very man-berry esque), and a sweet citrus. It's the right amount of tequila and a healthy serving of each that probably equates to one regular sized margarita. I do wish they had other flight options so my partner and I could double down and compare orders. The next thing you can do for yourself is order the tunarita appetizer. Think elevated poké nachos! The tuna arrives in a large margarita glass and can be poured over the toasted chips that also arrive. The jicama and sauces give it a Mexican-Asian influence for a faultlessly flavored dish. Watch out for the wasabi, though - it closely resembles the avocado! += Being the little piggies that we are, we also ordered the coconut shrimp tacos and YUM! The shrimp isn't overcooked and chewy or over-breaded with coconut. The whole dish is well balanced with acid and heat. Will absolutely be returning! read more

Blue Agave never fails me. It's tried and true. Amazing menu, great service, and the perfect atmosphere--suitable for everything from an intimate date night to a work lunch with colleagues. I've been going to Blue Agave for years, almost exclusively for weekday lunches. I've been through most of the menu and can say with conviction it's all amazing. There are no bad dishes. I managed to get in for a Sunday brunch, recently. It was Mother's Day and my husband's birthday and I had been looking forward to it for weeks. We had such a fantastic time. I nearly ruined it when I made a mistake with the reservation (please someone explain why Open Table would default to "high-top" as the reservation request option?!?). I basically reserved a high top, but we have a toddler who needs a booster seat--which is obviously not an option with a high top. The manager noticed the night before and fixed it for us, which I know doesn't read like a major deal but with as busy as I know they were for that day, it definitely was amazing of them to accommodate us. It was a perfect day. In terms of specifics, I'd highly recommend the tortilla soup--one of the top two in town, hands down. Also be sure to try the fish or shrimp tacos--neither will disappoint. Had a reservation last Saturday night the 22nd at 7:30 pm for 4. We were a little early so the hostess offered us a drink at the bar while we waited or to step aside until we are called. We decided to wait until our table was called as nobody was at the bar and we didn't want to sit by ourselves. Wondering why the bar would be so dead on a Saturday night?? We were seated right on time and had a great table not on the bar side. After 10 minutes went by the hostess came by and said that our server would be by soon. She greeted us with waters and asked if we had ever been before, we had not. She went through a drink list, an appetizer list, and an entree special all before we ordered a drink and we still never got her name. We ordered appetizers and drinks right away, actually tried ordering two drinks a piece because we knew this was going to be a show. Our appetizers came out quickly, food was brought by another server so we asked if they would pass along where our drinks were at. Our server came by and asked how the food was tasting and asked if we were ready to order. We laughed and asked where our drinks were at. She apologized and ran to get our drinks. After 30 minutes we finally had our drinks and appetizers. We asked how the appetizers come out so quick and she said that must of our food is MICROWAVED so things can be reheated and come out quick. We asked for our bill. Of all the reviews and things we have heard about the food in Fort Collins, we have yet to sit down for a dining experience in what we thought was a scratch kitchen come to find out that you are using microwaves to prepare your food. I have zero complaints. Service was good, food came quick, and everything was delicious. It feels like a great place to take a date, or to meet the parents. Nicely upscale without costing an arm and a leg. I was deciding between the fish tacos and the top shelf enchiladas, and ended up splurging on the enchiladas. There's something about tortillas drenched in sauce and cheese that can't be beat- but this still satisfied my craving for fish because it's stuffed with lobster and shrimp. After a long day of driving around different cities, lifting way too many full kegs, and fighting traffic, I needed somewhere to rest my weary bones and refuel. I tried Blue Agave Grill years ago (obsessed with their margarita flight to this day) and decided it was time to check it out again. I gave my information at the host stand for contact tracing and was taken to a cozy booth by the window, with plenty of distance from the closest table. They placed a menu in front of me and magically, a full bowl of warm, crispy tortilla chips and fresh salsa appeared. I snacked as I perused the menu, then my server, Alex, arrived. He guided me towards the best part of the menu (Happy Hour!) and recommended their spicy margarita, the Muy Macho, which I immediately ordered. Minutes later, it was in front of me with my picky 1/4 rim of salt. I sipped on it, enjoying the balance of sweet to powerful tequila with a firm spicy heat at the end of every sip. The next time Alex stopped by, I asked for another recommendation and ordered the Teriyaki salmon with red pepper pesto and white cheddar mashed potatoes, and truffled-bacon brussels sprouts. It was easily the most expensive thing on the dinner menu at $25.79, but for the amount of food, and the quality of food, SO worth it! They serve the salmon medium-rare (as the chef recommends, and I always order things the way the chef recommends), and it flaked apart perfectly. The sauce was sweet and tart without overpowering the tender flavor of the fish. The potatoes were jam-packed full of heavenly flavor, and the brussels were definitely in the top 5 of the best brussels I've had in my life - extremely tender without being mushy or burnt. I credit Alex completely with suggesting one of the best meals I've had to date - super friendly, great recommendations and very accommodating without being overbearing! I ended up ordering the family Carnitas platter (only $29.99 to feed 4) to bring home to the other hungry human who wasn't able to join me, and we're still being fed four days later with an obscene amount of tender carnitas, cilantro rice, black beans and spicy green chili. This will definitely be added to my favorite restaurant rotation, especially during happy hour when the margs are an absolute steal! read more

We almost didn't give this place a chance and were glad we did. We stopped in for dinner on the 4th of July. Very convenient to make a reservation on open table. Also saw the awesome yelp check in deal for corn chorizo dip. The dip was very tasty. I love the variety of margaritas and started with a flight. They do them well. I'm not a huge fan of margaritas because they are often so sweet and filled with cheap margarita mix, these here are good quality and you taste it. The food was spot on and I love they have a lot of gluten free so my wife can enjoy. Our server was attentive and friendly and they gave me half price on my second drink since it took them a little longer to get it to me as they were getting quite busy.
