At pick up, the total was $49 with no tip since it was a to go order. A few days later, a $55.62 charge was posted to my account. The salads here are amazing! I love the Chinese Chicken - Sub the chicken for tofu. I recommend you get your sauce on the side. When they mix it in you get barely any. Even when I pay for double the sauce and have them mix it in, I swear I get more with one serving on the side. The best kept secret here - Half price wine during happy hour. The thing is - It is happy hour on all week nights, all night!! That suits me just fine. On the bad side - This place is super pricey. The serving size is good, and I love the food, so I let it go. I have enjoyed several "U-Pick" salads at Blue Barn. Yesterday I called in my usual order for two identical salads. We took them home and we settled in for a great lunch. However - the salads were extremely disappointing. 95% mixed greens with a tiny bit of the other ingredients I had chosen. These salads were completely unlike those I had eaten in the past which had good amounts of the special ingredients I ordered and paid extra for. CONSISTENCY is paramount in the restaurant industry. Based on these two salads, my enthusiasm for - and trust in - the Blue Barn has taken a major hit. I was truly surprised by the inferior quality of the salads. Blue Barn, I really don't get you. Especially this location. Don't get me wrong; the food is delicious, but I refuse to pay $16 (PLUS A GENEROUS TIP!) for a salad when your service leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. First, why even advertise your phone number on your website / Yelp page for pick up orders WHEN YOU NEVER ANSWER YOUR PHONE?! I understand that you're swamped at the height of the lunch rush (12 pm - 1 pm), but not picking up your phone at 2:30 pm is odd. And when you actually get someone to answer, putting the customer on hold for over 5 mins so they are forced to keep hitting "redial" is not cool. After spending almost 15 mins trying to get a human on the phone to take an order, I gave up and went into the restaurant. And at 2:30 pm, it's not extremely busy.... So... Why did no one pick up your phone? Or what was up with the 5 min hold? Only one register was open (because no line whatsoever) which makes me think that the employees hanging out behind the counter were playing Pokemon Go or something. I'm real happy for you that you're about to catch a Pikachu at work, but can you please take my order because I am a paying customer?! Or, better yet, ANSWER YOUR PHONE WHEN IT RINGS! Also, it doesn't help that the numerous times I've been to this location I've more than a handful of times got attitude thrown my way for no reason at all. It's terrible to be paying that much for a sandwich / salad, plus a generous tip, and be treated that way. Two stars because the food is good, but you guys need to shape up the customer service. They have a great selection of Salads, and you can personalize your order with substitutions or additions. Not many sandwich choices for vegetarians. They can be a little pricey, but they are so large that I can usually eat the salad for 2 meals - ask for the dressing on the side so the salad doesn't get soggy. I hate to do this but unfortunately I had a not so great experience here the other day. Not sure if they just were off because of how busy the malls have been lately, but I got a fatoush salad that was horrible. Completely off, so many Greek olives I literally had spoonfuls I had to take out because it just took over the salad. I also got a panini and the bread was literally soaking in butter or oil or both, I'm not quite sure. I could squeeze out the grease over a napkin and got so grossed out by it that I threw my meal away. I was too cold to go back in and complain and waited too long to wait for them to make me something else. Such a shame! I have to give this place two stars because of the customer service, which is really unfortunate, since I like everything about the concept--organic, local, etc., and the food is actually quite tasty. However, I do not eat bread. I will not go into the dietary reasons why I do not eat bread, but I will point out that I live in Northern California, where all kinds of dietary restrictions are routinely honored. And of all places, one would expect a whole food, slow food, locavore place to honor dietary restrictions. Sadly, that was not the case. Having eyed the menu for a bit, I asked if I could have a Rooster sandwich, but without the bread. I order sandwiches and burgers without the bread all over the place, and the usual follow-up question (if there is one) is do you want a lettuce wrap? (IMHO, the right follow-up question, and the answer is, yes, I'd really appreciate that.) Instead, the woman behind the counter said no, "the chef" won't do that. Instead, you should order a "pick your own toppings" salad, because that's basically what you want. I stared at her. "No, I want a piece of chicken, some bacon, and the other things you are going to put on the sandwich. I don't want a salad. I eat salad ten times a week," I said. Which is true--when you don't eat bread, you end up eating a lot of salad to make life easier. I asked if the sandwiches are pre-made? She said no. So, completely baffled by the unwillingness to just put sandwich ingredients on a plate for me, sans roll, I said "fine, just give it to me with the bread. I will take it off myself. However, since all the delicious aioli will be stuck to the bread, could you put it on the side?" "Sure," she said, "and since you're just going to throw away the bread, I'll ask that they don't toast it." (So, let me get this straight...you can modify the sandwich by changing toppings or deciding whether the bread can be toasted or not, you just can't take away the bread?) When my sandwich arrived and I went to take off the bread, I realized that the avocado for the sandwich was not sliced but mashed, and had been thoroughly mashed into both side of my bread. So now, when I took off the bread, I was also going to be deprived of a goodly portion of my beloved avocado. Now, since I thought to ask about the aioli and explained why, you'd think the cashier could have also warned me about the avocado, so I could salvage that and put it on the side too? I realize I have a lot of food requests, but I always ask nicely and I always say thank you graciously. I also am very loyal to places that are willing to accommodate me. I very, very rarely encounter such an unhelpful attitude towards my really very simple request. It was a really disappointing experience for a number of reasons, chief among them that I so wanted to like this place because the food is actually quite tasty. On a final note, I said at the end of the counter exchange (and before I even got to the avocado issue), do you have a comment card? The cashier just laughed. I guess I'll take that for a no. But that kind of response is hardly surprising in an establishment where "the chef" (at a sandwich place?) thinks his opinion is so much more valuable than the customer's that he refuses to remove the bread. read more

This Sunday, some good friends and I brought our 3 collective kids to eat here after a playdate in Sycamore Park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sycamore-park-mill-valley). Compared to the other choices of eateries at Town Center (http://www.yelp.com/biz/corte-madera-town-center-corte-madera), Blue Barn stood out as a gourmet and healthy oasis, and the bustling tables both inside and out were a good indication of this. You order at the counter and there are all sorts of sandwiches and salads to choose from, plus a grilled cheese section! Given my Rochester, NY roots, I was drawn to the Buffalo Blue, and that balance of hot sauce and blue cheese was done just right. Being a hot enough day, I got a Mexican Coke and Racer 5 to wash it down. My son went with the PB&J, and here Blue Barn's commitment to fresh and organic was even apparent. Dash devoured it. As the newest and cutest eatery to hit Corte Madera's Towncenter in quite some time, I had high hopes for this establishment that presumably thrives on cheese cuisine. Every time I walk by there is a line out the door. Above the register there is a sign that says something (slightly more polite) to the likes of, "good food takes time, be patient." From the looks of it- all good signs. I ventured over and figured it's time to try a staple: the grilled cheese. As a cheese lover and vegetarian, a meal with its foundation in cheese is the highlight of my sometimes seeming boring palette. Whoever raves about salavating for a salad is lying. They've lost it, they are too hungry from lack of anything other than immitation grass and simply just don't know. Cheese is where it's at and Blue Barn is known for having handy a variety of fancy and lavish grilled cheese options. I went basic, but added tomato and avocado. Two ingredients I often require to take my meal from zero to sixty. I got water in a mason jar, walked over to a table with my different and distinct, happening hipster number placard and awaited pure bliss. My sandwich came and it looked instagram ready. I eagerly sunk my teeth in and that's where my dream turned into reality. It was just a grilled cheese. No spice, sharp or secret taste that I yearned for. I print out the menu from the website, build your own salads, etc. Myself and five of my coworkers in total. I see on the website that you can fax your order but only for "large" parties. I'm not sure how many this means, so I decide to call. I get their answering machine four times. The recording says they may be busy helping other customers and therefore aren't answering the phone. I think that's a bit odd -- but i've been the customer in the store needing help when people take priority on the phone and it's annoying. So, I kind of get it. Kind of. On the fifth try, someone finally answers the phone. Me: "Hi. Can I place a to-go order?" Him: " Did you make a reservation?" Me: "No. No, i just want to place a to-go order." (Thinking he didn't hear me.) Him: "Yeah, I know. You have to make a reservation for that." Me: "I...no. Wait. Really?" Him: "Yes. You have to reserve a to-go order a day in advance," Me: "Oh. Wow. I didn't know that." Him: "Well, I can see if our kitchen can fit you in." Me: "Uh. Ok?" Him: "Ok. They can fit you in. What do you want?" Me: "Ok. Well, a lot of them are build your own salads. Can I fax it?" Him: "No. You can't fax it. You have to tell me over the phone." Me: "Ok. I don't have all of them filled out yet." Him: "Well, then call back." I love the food here. Organic deliciousness. The beets and greens salad is one of my favorites and the steak sandwich-yum! I think considering the quality and freshness that it is worth the price. The staff are efficient and try to keep things moving because man this place gets busy and loud. That's what I dislike the most about this place is how loud it is. We had lunch today for 4 adults and 2 kids. Our kids wanted a hamburger so we ordered it from The Counter and brought it to the Blue Barn. The four adults ordered four meals and waited 25 minutes to get our order. We sat to eat inside of restaurant and in the middle of our meal, an employee came to let us know that our children could not eat the food from a different restaurant and that we had to leave immediately! We ask for the manager. We spoke with the owner, not the manager, she made it very clear that she was the owner. She also made it clear that she wasn't going to do anything for us, a refund? Sympathy? Caring for your customer? Nothing I understand their policies, I understand their concerned but I Do NOT understand her lock of customer service, her "I can care less attitude" and truly her unwillingness to listen to her clients. She didn't even paused to think, that if we were almost done, maybe, it would be better to make an exception and allow your customers to finish their food. I can believe she runs a business this way. She has lost 6 customers but obviously didn't care! Well we went outside and try to enjoy the rest of the meal which was very difficult to do. read more

Service here is extremely slow even after being open for 2+ weeks. The food is pretty good and I appreciate organic ingredients but I ordered the PB&J for $5 and it came with NO sides. Then they got rid of the awesome sweet potato fries that they had on Day 1! We came a second time last week when my mother in law was visiting. We waited 40 minutes for three sandwiches. While giving our order to the employee at the register, he let another customer come in front of us to pick up something WHILE WE WERE TALKING. I even said that we were in the middle of ordering and we were ignored! Having worked in the mall for many years, I was ecstatic to learn they were putting a blue barn location!! However, as a lover of slow food I was rather disappointed. I ordered a u-pick salad with greens, carrots, candied pecans, garbanzo beans, goat cheese (the love of my life), and roasted corn. I paid extra for the chicken, which was sufficient- hence 2 stars. For my $13 salad, I got LITERALLY 3 pecans, a teaspoon of goat cheese, 98% greens. I love that they source their food in such a sustainable way, but as I ate my takeout salad at home I was very disappointed that my 6 ingredients I chose besides chicken were hardly present. Blue Barn has everything I want in a sandwich/salad shop food-wise. Terrific selection. Not sure if it's very overpriced or slightly financially justified, but it's definitely expensive! Worth the extra 5 dollars for a massive salad in my opinion, although I can't do it very often. Service at the counter in Marin is a bit shoddy, typically staffed by young Marinites who don't understand that it is rude to chat it up with their friends while there are customers waiting in line. They often avoid eye contact rather than greet you. Service in the Marina is better, but it is often very busy! -.5 Star for the price -.5 Star for the Corte Madera service. This is Marin, and although I do not demand unfettered attention as some here do, I expect service everywhere to at least put the customer first. Try the Tostada with Chicken. I'm a Corte Madera resident, and have been to this location multiple times over the past 5 years. It's disappointing that the quality and value has taken such a nose dive. Our last visit and order was also a let-ddown, in that the "bucket" of lettuce was lacking in all other areas - protein and other ingredients that were part of that particular salad. Tonight's experience was very similar. I ordered online, not being thrilled with the 5% surcharge for upkeep of their "platform". I specifically asked for no nuts on one salad, due to a nut allergy. While eating the salad, my daughter came across more than 5 pine-nuts while eating the salad. It sounds trivial, but it's dangerous. Another of our salads was marked on the box as what we ordered (Detox) but when we went to eat it, there were NONE of the ingredients. Either it was mislabeled and was someone else's salad, or the person making it had no idea what they were doing. Bottom line is that I'm stepping away from BB for a while, and will suggest the same for anyone that asks me for my opinion. I want to shop local and support our businesses, but a $17 incorrectly made box of lettuce with a few sprinkles of other ingredients is just robbery. #buyerbeware read more

Such a great option for everything fresh, local, and delicious. Great salads that are executed to perfection. Very fresh greens and fruit, with perfectly balanced dressings with just the right amount of acid and fat (oil). Nicely decorated ambiance with good outdoor and indoor seating options. Lots of different extra sides that you can order with your salads. Our avocado that we ordered was a bit unripe, but aside from that gripe everything else was delicious. What a great find - Marin is not exactly chock full of reasonably priced, casual eateries and this in one! Really enjoyed a late afternoon lunch with my wife on a sunny Sunday. Fresh, locally sourced food and a taste just different enough to be interesting and delicious as opposed to some chef experiment. We came away happy to have a place soon to be a regular stop. We've eaten at Blue Barn in Corte Madera three times now and have more or less decided this is our new go-to lunch place! The food is really terrific, well-prepared, healthy, fresh, tasty! The atmosphere is fun. The staff seem happy and were very helpful when I requested more information about the source of this food or that. The prices are consistent with what we've paid at other popular eateries but that don't have anywhere near this quality. I've eaten two sandos and a salad. The Masala, curried chicken salad with sprouts, etc., on whole wheat was delicious and satisfying. I thought there could have been a bit more curry, but that's just a personal preference. The Rooster sando was a big meal. White cheddar from Pt. Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company is the best, and it was delicious with chicken and bacon and their sauce. The Tostada salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten in a restaurant. The romaine and chicories were fresh, colorful, tasty, and chopped into crisp perfectly bite-sized pieces. All the other ingredients together with the spicy dressing made this a satisfyingly crunchy salad. It was just the right size for a meal. I would change only two things. First, I wish there were more seating. The restaurant is very busy and people are always waiting for tables. Second, I would like to see more whole grain breads. The huge white bread rolls just aren't healthy and they contrast with the rest of the menu, which is! I look forward to more meals here ... and I also wish there were more restaurants in Marin that serve food of this quality and price. read more

I usually don't write negative reviews but on my way back to work after eating at Blue Barn, I'm frustrated and not satisfied. I made the mistake of ordering a Big Tuna sandwich. The place is adorable and I've been here before and had salads. The service is impeccable. We were waiting at our very nice outdoor table, enjoying the Motown music, watching beautiful HUGE salads come out to the tables. My sandwich arrived on a plate. It was cut in half and on a piece of paper. No garnish. Bland looking tuna salad on white bread. What a downer!! Why do the salads get so much love and the sandos nothing?!! Not even a pickle or some chips. How about rethinking the sandwich presentation? When you have, let me know and I'll go back for one. In the meantime I will stick to the delicious salads. read more

As a former Marin-ite now living in Sonoma County, I was delighted to eat at Blue Barn. They have the 'organic feel good experience' DOWN. While waiting in line to order, beautiful Peruvian staff came out to offer special order cards for people who wanted to 'design their own salads' while offering ice cold water served from a large stainless steel carafe with optional lime/lemon in sturdy mason jars to those who waited. A sensible, yet utterly tuned-in blackboard sign read "Slow food takes time. Thank you for your patience." Subliminally or not, these guys are part of the organic slow food movement so popular in Italy and many parts of Europe. I had the Chinese Chicken salad and it was very good. The white meat chicken could have been more flavorful; the chicken texture indicated a certain amount of water injection, so it was not exactly 'right off the chicken,' but it was good. The portions were generous and the people watching was fun. The outdoor seating is right off the central courtyard, so eating outside, one feels connected to the broader scope of activity in the plaza. I would definitely eat here again many times over! read more

I know everyone is struggling with food costs, but this place isn't cheap and the last few times I've eaten here very disappointing. They changed the cobbler salad last year, so it doesn't include avocado ( every version has it, obviously trying to save money) and the chicken is tiny shredded particles you can't even tell are chicken! I ordered the Thai chicken salad last week ( I forgot about the bad chicken) and there may have been two tablespoons of chicken on it. and again that weird shredded chicken . it's a Thai chicken salad, chicken is in the description. everything else is the same quality. the salads are over $20, I don't consider that cheap. If you have been a customer for several or more years like me, you know what I'm talking about. I don't think I will be eating here anymore. It's really too bad, it was a favorite. read more
