The new location is open and the goodness continues for Harper's Blue Bonnet Bakery. This place is a Fort Worth institution. I can remember going there as a wee tot after Museum School. I remember getting their sugar diorama eggs in my Easter basket. The cookies... beautiful delicate European style cookies. Oh, my. And don't get me started on the petit fours... I might need to take a shower to cool down! The new location is in an old church on Camp Bowie... more parking and blessedly, more seating. Customers still queue up at the pastry counters for their orders - but now there are plenty of tables and a separate coffee area and beverage fountain. I've noticed a vacant serving counter off to the side... my wish and hope is that they put a barista in there... then I'd be in every day since it's short walking distance from my house (and we have NO decent coffee options in Arlington Heights/Ridglea since Eurotazza as well as one of our two Starbucks closed). But I digress... the food. Nothing is bad here. Admittedly, there are places on Camp Bowie (which could really be called Camp Bakery these days) where I'd prefer to go for donuts or cupcakes... but nothing beats Blue Bonnet for just about everything else. I ordered a cake for a baby shower in February, and was impressed. I originally ordered from a different baker, who informed me the day before the shower, that they would be unable to fill my order. The staff at Blue Bonnet Bakery cheerfully accepted the challenge of producing a pretty cake for 30, with less than 26 hours notice. I actually live in Austin - we were able to e-mail them the invite as a PDF for them to work off of, and they allowed me to do all ordering and payment over the phone. With such short notice, I had high hopes, but low expectations. However, the cake was ready right on time, and it was both delicious and beautiful. read more

The croissants weren't bad, but I'd really have liked more options than two of the last three remaining crescent rolls, three jelly doughnuts and a few overly decadent-looking muffins for breakfast. We didn't see any kind of sandwich menu (and we asked about breakfast options but were told WYSIWYG), but perhaps they don't serve sandwiches on weekends? We were the only people sitting down to eat at noon in the messy eating area. This used to be one of my favorite lunch spots back in high school. It's still a nice looking bakery . However, I wont be back for lunch again unless something changes. The quality used to be so much better it's sad . I chose this place to take my grandmother out to lunch on her last day with me in Texas. When we entered the girl who took our order informed me that there were no more chips available. It was sad news because there home made chips have always been amazing. So we ordered our two sandwiches and the chips usually come for free with the sandwich but fruit and anything else is extra. So i chose fruit and the potato salad since those were our only options. She asked if it was for here for or to go and I informed her we were dining in and she gave me a number tag to place on our table. We paid $17 dollars ( which isn't too cheap for two sandwiches & no drinks). After we sat down , that same lady came and brought me a to go bag with only one box. I informed her again that we were dining in as she had earlier confirmed when she gave me the table tag. She left and came back a moment later with one sandwich that was tuna. Neither my grandma or I ordered tuna and I told her we had ordered two sandwiches. She was rude in that she told me right away that I was false and I had only ordered one. So i said " no we paid $17 for two sandwiches thats not the price of one". She then said " oh okay" and left. Ironically in that single sandwich that she gave us it had there homemade chips on the side. This made me a bit upset. Because it proved that they did have chips when she had told me no and had me pay more for the fruit and potato salad. Normally I wouldn't care but the fruit ( once our correct order came out) seemed like it was defrosted and the potato salad was probably one of the worst tasting I have ever had. My sandwich wheat bread practically fell apart in my hands. In the end they did bring me a bag of homemade chips which I appreciated but it just was not a good experience overall. The staff was not that friendly, they were trying to rush through the people in line. I don't think the person helping me wanted to be there. Situated on Camp Bowie, this bakeshop/deli/institution has been around for more than 75 years, and it doesn't look to be going anywhere soon. Around lunch time, there was a whole mess of people, many of which were families, feasting on the many sandwich and soup offerings. Additionally, there is one fantastic selection of baked goods, ranging from fruit bars to an assortment of cookies, all the way around to a hodgepodge of breads. As is custom, I just wanted to drop by this bakery--namely, because it aptly has the name "bake" in it--to pick up a few items that have come out of the oven and boast a random mix of sugar, flour, and butter. I would dare to say that these are some of the best sweets in Cowtown; you sure won't find many in the Stockyards. But... some may argue for the many cupcake shops around town now. The lemon chess bar was mealy, sweet, and tart. Spot on--a steal at $0.55. I will go ahead and note that all of the little sweets are sold for this specific price. The macaroon was not too sweet, balanced in stickiness and gumminess, and definitely minimal in the way of filler. The cherry square was as tasty as the other 2. It was sticky, buttery, and light. AND I got 2 whole pieces of canned cherry. Right on. BBB gets my vote. I am certain that it would get a thumbs up from BBB, as well. No, not itself... the Better Business Bureau. If I wasn't in fear of contracting Diabetes or was potentially setting myself up for a career in Dietetics, I would come back weekly to try 5-10 different items. read more

My first and last experience with this bakery if I could give a no star I would. My daughter birthday was Sunday and I had called Saturday right before closing asking them that I was running late and I would be there in less than 20 minutes because I had gotten lost. I've heard lots about Blue Bonnet Bakery, and I haven't personally tried much here besides the petites fours. My co-workers, however, rave about Blue Bonnet Bakery. We order cookies from them to appreciate the teachers at the schools we work with. We often order several dozens of cookies for each order, and order an assortment of cookies that are .40 each, so that runs us about 4.80 a dozen. These are the smaller cookies, but the prices are good and there are a variety that come in the assortment. The packaging is nice, although I prefer the sturdier, dark brown box that you're given with larger orders. I've been inside and love that the bakery is inside of a gutted church--it has a lot of charm. The ceilings are high and gorgeous, and the bakery display is long and filled with a variety of baked goodies. Last time I was there I spied some yummy-looking cherry tarts. I'd love to go back and try them. There's a seating area (i think they serve food there too), and an area with gifts and trinkets. It's a cute place! read more

Bluebonnet is nothing short of spectacular! They made my wedding cakes, and from the tasting to the wedding day, I only have good things to say. During the tasting, they give you samples of the cakes in the form of cupcakes. The lemon was to die for, but with our winter wedding, we went with Italian creme & red velvet. They also explain everything because there is so much that goes into baking the cakes. They can pretty much do anything you want! My husband had a Dallas Cowboys helmet complete with a face mask and all. For our bridal cake, we had four tiers with rose gold, alternating Italian creme & red velvet. It was so delicious, even a couple of my vegan friends had some! (They will kill me if they ever see I posted that!) They also allow you to add any flowers or decorations of your choice. I brought a ton of baby's breath, which they placed generously all over. If you choose flowers, make sure you have plenty. I believe they only charge if they order or provide the flowers for you. We planned for 200 guests, but only had 140. There is a good amount of cake left over, but let's just say I am glad we planned for the higher number! No red velvet left! My guests went back for seconds, and maybe thirds! They could not stop complimenting the cake! The location and atmosphere is also adorable. Very clean and sweet! Coffee is good too. read more

However I've also run by here as a quick thought on my way home and picked up some cookies and pastries and they were very meh, dried out, not very good. If you have an issue with the way my children are behaving, you either address me or speak nicely to my kids (especially when there is no one there and they aren't hurting anyone, anything, or themselves) When my three year old struggled to do as he asked, he said "well that's what happens" instead of trying to help the three year old.
