This hotel is not worth the money. We were supposed to have a room with a partial view. The view we had was if you stuck your head out the window and looked towards the beach you could see it. Stains in the carpet, TV wouldn't work at first and had to call the front desk. Speaking of the front desk, we called them several times to ask about the TV. No one ever answered! My husband had to walk out there to ask about it. This morning the coffee pot didn't work and we lost one coffee pod because of that. Tried calling the front desk to get another and never got anyone. So frustrating. Paid over $400 to stay there one night. read more

Lovely place to stay for couples in Cambria. Rooms, as with many of the places on Moonstone Beach Drive, are right off the water. You walk out of your room, cross the street and voila!, you are at the boardwalk. Parking is just sufficient for guests. This is best for couples. They do the more "romantic" side of Cambria with breakfast delivered to your room. At check-in, you can select your breakfast and the options range from a yogurt/granola, to a egg pastry with fruit. Drinks include coffee or orange juice. The breakfast comes in a little picnic basket. Of course, there is free wi-fi as the cellular service along the beach is really quite patchy. The wi-fi service has been reliable the past few times we were there. You can easily open a shuttered window to get that wonderful ocean breeze into your room. Several of the rooms do have larger bath tubs but you need to ask for them. They do have a pet-friendly room as well. This requires a reasonable pet deposit when booking the room. When we checked in with our dog, they had set up a doggy bed and bowls for food/water. (See pic) It was so thoughtful for our doggy who was tired from the travel. This is a quiet intimate setting, really meant more for couples or someone wanting a quiet place to rest. If you are traveling with kids, I would recommend the Castle Inn or Pelican Inn & Suites down the road. read more

Such a wonderful place to stay! The Blue Dolphin Inn is the perfect place for a romantic getaway! We stayed two blissful nights in room 210 and had a lovely view of the sea. Our room was spacious and included all the modern conveniences, one would require, to feel welcomed and pampered. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we were lulled to sleep by sound of the waves. The morning breakfast delivery was quite nice and the food was tasty. The staff here is knowledgeable and so very friendly. The close proximity to the beautiful beach was icing on the cake (which we thank you for as well). We feel recharged and revitalized! And we will most certainly return to this darling gem by the sea. read more

We are absolutely loved this hotel! We stayed in room 210 with a partial Oceanview and it exceeded our expectations. Closer to a full Oceanview! The staff was amazing and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. My beloved pup had just passed away and Stacey was sweet enough to leave a condolence card on the mantle for me when we checked in . Booking was easy, Great parking, great location and we just could not have been happier. Every room has a fireplace refrigerator microwave kitchen utensils a blow dryer iron ironing board and a fan! The location is perfect as it is right across the street from the boardwalk, so its wonderful to go out the door and have a beautiful place to walk and beachcomb. Great amenities and wonderful breakfast basket delivered to your room. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The time we were there they were having a heat wave on the coast and for the price point i was so surprised that the rooms did not have an AC unit. The rooms were very warm and stuffy and only one window opens so there was no cross ventilation. They did provide a fan and even though at night it did cool down to about 70, it was very humid so with the window open everything felt damp. We paid $268 for a room with two queens. Anyway I'm sure during other times of the year it's prefect without ac, but just be aware. read more

The girl and I needed a little getaway after me having spent a couple weeks on a motorcycle trip. After looking for lots of places in the area, we decided on this place. Cambria is a popular spot in mid-August so be prepared to spend a few bucks. We were really happy we found this place. I think it's my new favorite place to get away, and I mean the Blue Dolphin Inn. The room was really nice, the property itself is great, and the amenities are perfect. Free breakfast delivered to your room at your schedule, great selection and very well done! Jill is the best! When I booked, I let her know it was our anniversary. When we arrived in our room, there was a beautiful and delicious cake waiting for us. We were super surprised. We got a chance to meet her and she was just as pleasant in person as she was on the phone. One of the best things is that you can hear the ocean all night long. Sooo soothing. The only thing I can say is that the airflow in the room is minimal. It's mid-August so I can't expect it to be too cool out. They don't have AC, at least not in our room but they provide a nice fan. The only thing is that it's kind of loud, so if you want to keep cool at night you have to keep it on and you can't hear the water outside. I've been coming to Cambria for about 10 years and each time I stay somewhere different. For hotels on Moonstone Beach this is my favorite so far. I'd love to give it 5 stars but for a few minor annoyances I'll keep it 4. Pros: They had a small cake waiting in our room for our anniversary. We stayed in the room 211 A.K.A. Saldanha room. This room had the best ocean view of any of the places I've stayed in the past on Moonstone beach. 100% unobstructed by trees it was perfect. Open the window and the ocean sounds like it's about to wash you out to sea from your bed. Room is huge and spacious with four poster king sized bed which was comfortable. Room had fridge, microwave, and Keurig single-cup coffee maker with a variety of "k-cups". Bathroom was huge with separate shower and bathtub. Shower used rain style shower head and toilet had two button flush.... one for poop and one for pee. Room was always spotless. Very comfortable robes and slippers are provided. Housekeeping starts in the afternoon so you don't have to worry about missing your room being cleaned due to sleeping in late! Even though we were on the second floor the property was on a steep incline which means if you park in the back you're on the 2nd story, you just walk in thru the lobby. Zero stairs to haul in luggage. When Dawn was working the front desk she was so extremely nice. Quick to chat and give suggestions about things to see and places to eat. Very VERY nice lady. Adult only property. No kids allowed. Pro for somebody with no kids and I'm sure a con with somebody with kids. Awesome not hearing screaming brats while I'm relaxing. Every day you circle menu selections for breakfast and hang it on the door for the next morning. They had smoked salmon on bagel with cream cheese and capers, pastry stuffed with eggs, canadian bacon, cheese, pastry with eggs and veggies, yogurt with granola, cereal, and oatmeal. Then there was sides to pick like fresh fruit, toast, scones, pastries, hard boiled egg, and what you want to drink. Breakfast was pretty good. I had the smoked salmon for 75% of my trip. Free wi-fi. Cons: When Dawn wasn't working the front desk the rest of the staff was very cold and standoffish. If they did smile it was very fake. Totally different vibe. Nowhere on the web page does it say fireplaces but you'll see them in all the pictures. I guess I was wrong for assuming but every property I've stayed at in Cambria has them. It was just a fake electric fireplace that never worked properly. I could never get the heater to work when I wanted it to and the front desk just told me it's finicky. Rain shower is so damn frustrating..... water dissipates the lower on your body you go..... takes hard luck and determination to wash your secret no no spots. Toilet Paper is made of tissue paper.... you visualize moisture in your mind and the TP disintegrates. Thank god I take Cottenelle wet wipes with me because there's no way possible you could wipe yourself with this TP. BUY BETTER TP! Summary: All hotels have pros and cons. The pros here outweigh the cons. Beautiful spacious clean rooms and the best ocean view I've seen in Moonstone. I highly recommend. I'll be staying again. read more

Where do I start? This place is so cute and cozy that you really feel at home and just relaxed upon even first entering the room. The beds were super comfy! Our room was on the first floor near the lobby (was scared it would be noisy) but it's wasn't by any means. We had a partial ocean view room so it was so nice to keep the window open and just hear those waves outside. The fire place was neat and I took full advantage. ( A little tutorial is given upon checking in). Breakfast: They lose a star for this..I thought the breakfast kind of fell short. How it works is you check off what you would like off the breakfast menu by 8 pm with the time you want them to deliver it. Finally, I soooo would stay here again and I plan on it actually. Loved the great customer service. It was such a nice place to stay to feel refreshed and reenergized. ***Tips***** -They have a folder full of restaurant menus in case your deciding between places to eat. -They also have a folder filled with DVDs if you chose to watch a film. -Finally, you must connect to wifi if you want to text and such. LET ME TELL YOU... The rooms with the patio facing towards the ocean are simply amazing! Ever since my friend took me here, we cannot stop ranting and raving about how much fun we had. We listened to the ocean waves crash all day, he watched the sunrise over the horizon from the comfort of our room, the beach was literally a few short steps across the street (SEE PICTURES) and we were able to settle ourselves on the cliff with a blanket and our breakfast. As you probably already know, Cambria's a naturally beautiful place as it is but this hotel made our stay THAT much better with it's clear, gorgeous view and accessibility to everything. This was the only hotel I saw that had a large patio so you can sit outside and watch the ocean. Not to mention, the ladies who worked here were so personable and friendly. They were helpful whenever we had questions but would give us our privacy otherwise. I have never had such wonderful experience at any hotel like this before. I can continue and word-vomit how much I love this place but it's not really doing it justice. I have been DYING to come back and I still constantly talk about it today. THIS IS NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY HOTEL, PLUS RUDE CLERKS. Its 8:30pm...and my sister got a complaint call from TRINIDAD the front desk unprofessional loud and rude clerk. She stated the following when calling "I know you're having issues there, but we got a complaint about your baby crying" She called so they have my 2 month old nephew not cry! I went up to the front desk and asked her if she really called my sister to asked her to not have her baby cry in the manner she did...and she raised her voice at me and said "yeah, yeah I did....everyone has the right to file a complaint" and I asked her to not raise her voice at me as she was yelling...and she followed up by saying "you're being combative right now so I'm going to have to stop talking to you right there" and put her hand in front of me. I asked for a manager and she kept yelling the same thing and then said "you're gonna have to talk to her tomorrow" while tilting her head side to side as if She was about to engage in a high school fight....I asked for her name and stated it was (tree-knee-dad) Trinidad. Then as I was walking away she proceeded to discuss the issue with another person who was staying in the hotel telling her how "she called due to the baby crying and crying" and how I got upset. This is not the way to: 1.) Deescalate a stressful situation 2.) Professionally handle a complaint 3.) Handle noise complaints 4.) IT IS NOT THE TONE YOU UTILIZE TO CALL ABOUT A COMPLAINT 5.) Hire a person with an attitude and poor interpersonal skills as your front desk person. (Trinidad clearly lacks manners, tact, and needs to reconsider working in the hospitality industry. ) 6.) Lastly, you do not discuss issues with other customers in front of who you just had the encounter with! Unprofessional and disgusting to be honest... I get the hotel has policies and procedures to but do you really have to make someone feel unwelcomed due to a baby crying. WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO TELL THE BABY TO SHUT UP? Get real! Last time we come here. My parents have been coming to this hotel for some time now...but NEVER giving these people our service ever again! Trinidad next time you call a mother about their colicky baby crying because he had a stuck burp, get your butt off your chair, get off your phone, and walk yourself up to the room, knock and be kind! A lovely hotel for a romantic weekend getaway. Close to Hearst Castle and the beach where there are steps leading down to the water, or you can stroll along the boardwalk. We were lucky to snag one of the waterfront rooms and woke up each morning to a blue sky and crashing waves. The breakfast box provided to each room was also delicious! Cambria & surrounding areas are also lush with vineyards, so I recommend going on a wine tasting trip! Only downside was the parking which was cramped and limited. read more

Lovely lodging and close to gorgeous ocean! Rooms are well kept and comfortable, and I have stayed in many of the places on this stretch. It is one of the top best! Well managed too. My only complaint is that often you will hear obnoxious cars at midnight, and early hours of the morning. The cars are most certainly roaring by to create noise and disturb visitors to the area. I wish this was rare but we stay on this stretch a lot, and it happens more regularly than we wish. Perhaps well placed speed bumps would help. It's a problem when all you were hoping to hear were the waves. Other than that, it's a little paradise, quaint community and spectacular ocean to enjoy. The birding is great too. read more

We stayed at the Blue Dolphin Inn for the first in the Sea of Japan room. This room was gorgeous. It was facing the ocean.It is similar to Sand Pebbles. You get the nice breakfast delivered to your room. And the nice cookies. We slept the night with the window open to get the ocean breeze. Oh it was so wonderful. I slept better than I have in years. You listen to the waves go back and forth. How peaceful is That? The front desk people are so nice. I bought a tee shirt. Jill is very kind and nice. They see to it that you have everything you need. Most hotels aren't like this. IT'S DIFFERENT. We loved everything about this place and are eager to return. read more

Great location right across from the beach on a quiet street. Check-in was quick and very friendly. The clerk walked us to our room and showed us how to turn on the gas fireplace. The bottled water was complimentary as was the chocolate cookies. The room was very clean and there were lots of pillows. The property's location couldn't be better. The rooms are great! Stopped in as I was passing through. They accommodated me brilliantly even as a walk in. There was a small maintenance issue with the room, and the manager used the opportunity to shine. The views from the ocean view 2nd floor rooms are outstanding. We left the windows open at night and it was like sleeping on the beach - sans sand. Our double queen room was clean and spacious and was equipped with a microwave and fridge. Bathrooms were large. Everything seems recently remodeled. There was, however, no desk and the WiFi was spotty at the front (oceanside) of the hotel, so this room would not be the best choice if you had work you needed to do while enjoying the view. They offered a ham/egg/cheese wrap, scrambled eggs, and a yogurt/granola option for our picnic breakfast each morning - delivered fresh to our door. read more

The rooms themselves are quite nice, but the front desk staff is so rude. this woman named erma is a TERRIBLE front desk lady- she barked at us and did NOT help us. We are here now. The room is very nice, roomy bathroom, great view of the ocean out the window where the crashing waves can be heard. Only complaint so far is: I am a bath person and the plug won't engage. I phoned front desk and was told someone would be there to fix in 30 minutes. 30 minutes later I called and was told the guy (maintenance I presume) usually doesn't show up until 6:30 (It was 6:40pm when I called) but as soon as he shows up he'd send him here asap. I'm still waiting. I have a feeling "he" will not show up. If he does, I'll amend this review. A bathtub is important to me when I book a room. No matter how nice other things are, all things promised should be delivered. Update: maintenance came but said it couldn't be fixed although he could plug it enough for one bath fill...just don't unplug it because it won't plug up again. He began to fill it and it was only lukewarm. He told me it was because the boiler was downstairs and it should get hotter eventually. All in all, this is disappointing for an upscale hotel. Updating our review. We stayed here in March of 2021 and the stay was awesome as stated in our 2019 review. We stayed again in October of 2021 as this is where we usually stay for our anniversary. We were excited and looking forward to our stay. The check in person was nice and friendly. She gave us our keys. We requested a patio room. We opened the door and were hit in the nose with a very musty/moldy type smell. For the price one pays for an ocean view room a smell like that is unacceptable. We have stayed in this same room many times before and have not had that experience. We opened the sliding glass door and kept it open. That helped but that is not acceptable. The more the window was open the better it started to smell. Breakfast was good. View awesome and we enjoyed the rest of our stay. At check out you just leave your keys but we had a question and the person at check out seemed annoyed at our wanting to ask a question and did not seem to want to be bothered by anyone. This interaction honestly made us pause and wonder if maybe next time when we visit Cambria to try a different hotel. Considering we have stayed here at least 5 times that makes us sad. read more

I can't even rate the hotel because I didn't make it that far. I booked a room on 8/12 for a one night stay from August 14-15 for my mother and aunt. It was a very last minute booking through Hotels.com. I did not pay the extra $10 to cancel anytime and that was completely my fault. My aunt has COVID so obviously the trip can't happen. I contacted Hotels.com to see if there was ANYTHING they would be willing to do. Of course there wasn't because they wanted to be paid. They advised me to contact the hotel to see if there was anything they could do. I called the hotel not expecting much really, but what I experienced was insane. I called and the lady that answered was immediately rude. I started to talk and she cut me off to ask me my last name. So, I gave her my mothers last name. Then word for word she abruptly and rudely says, "So you want to cancel or what?" I tried to explain and once again she cut me off to tell me I booked my plans on "Expedia" (booked on Hotels.com) and I would have to fight with them as she was not going to pay. I then tried explaining I had already chatted with them and was told to contact the hotel. The person then cut me off raising her voice and was completely condescending. I am not an idiot. I know how it works. I was merely TRYING to see if there was anything I could do to not lose $420. I then became very agitated and asked for her name as I could not get a word in at all. She then had the audacity to tell me I was the one cutting her off and said, "That is how a conversation works, right? You let me talk then I let you talk." She was right about that one. I wish she had let me speak. I asked for her name 3 times before she actually provided it. As soon as she did, I hung up. Her name is TRINIDAD. I'm sure her story will change when she tells the owner, which is a shame because she really does need to learn how to speak to people. Or at the very least, learn to listen. If multiple people complain about the same staff member, maybe the issue isn't the customer. read more
