We stayed here last night, our room was absolutely beautiful . We had a fireplace and large balcony. The decor was perfect. We were given breakfast in the morning at our door. It is across the street from the ocean. Main Street is not too far away, and the little shops are very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer. read more

Blissful! Stunning sunsets and sunrise and miles of coastal paths for walkers, joggers and cyclists. If you want to soothe and calm your nerves and get R&R, the Blue Dolphin Inn is ideal. The first-class appointments in the guest rooms are impressive. The quality of the complimentary breakfast is terrific and the staff is friendly and warm. The Inn Director welcomed us personally (and we weren't staying in the highest priced rooms, either) because he knew we were first-time visitors. One note I should make for families with younger children, the Blue Dolphin Inn has "sister" inns that may be better suited to your needs. We, however, will be back again and again! read more

Large comfortable room with an unparalleled view. We had the second floor facing the ocean and enjoyed the sound and the view of the ocean. The morning picnic delivered to the room is a great idea. The puff pastry is the best thing they do. My only criticism is the pastries. They should find a new bakery because they are pretty terrible. I will be back. read more

Charming, quaint, and cozy inn right on Moonstone Beach Drive....on the Pacific Ocean in lovely Cambria. Rooms are small but so comfortable. Room rates have sky-rocketed over the years, but then, what hasn't? Hearst Castle, a MUST SEE / DO, is right up the road about 5-8 miles. Cambria is well worth the visit....lots of great shops, great food. Romantic walks on the beach....even horse drawn carriage rides. read more

I won't use this space to underscore either what's already been written on them, or what just comes with the territory (that is, the insane decadence of being located just feet from ocean and walking catwalks, the cuteness of the town of Cambria, and the hypnotic effect that the breakers have when you leave your window open a crack). Instead, I'll espouse on the distinctives that BDI blows out of the water....namely: 1) Sheets like buttah. Sure one might expect this from a high end place, but coupled with the lulling waves, they render it nearly impossible to get out of bed, let alone the immaculate room (this is one of those very rare times I recall never wanting to leave my "room" when I'm away from home). 2) A Keurig coffee maker in the room: cowabunga! Accompanied by good, organic coffee, a fridge and a microwave, this contributes to the pleasure-induced inertia described just above. 3) Yummy, all-inclusive, delivered-at-hour-you-specify brekkie that hits the spot. I loved the perfectly-portioned bagel & lox & hard boiled egg & light wheat toast so much I got it both days I was here ... and while they said you have to pre-order the night before, they still accommodated me on Day 2 when I made a last-minute hunger plea after neglecting to order the previous evening per the rule. And how could I omit the home-baked cookies delivered to your room each day? 4) Beyond #3, just overall great customer service. The GM hails from a Hyatt 5-star background (ran the one in Kauai: nuff said), and is working hard to instill this ethic in small-town Cambria and it's working. Rumor has it that the staff learned how to shine shoes and tie bowties to delight some Hearst Foundation muckety-mucks last year. My experience certainly doesn't conflict with this legend. We went here for Christmas weekend and it was a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of life. The lady in the front was so accomodating and sweet. We stayed at the JR Suite room. The living room isn't really a living room, but more of just a small area with a couch and a tv. But still cozy. We didn't get a room with the view as we knew it was going to rain so why bother? Service is great, rooms are comfy. The only complaint I had was with the water pressure of the shower. I mean, literally little to no water pressure. The location is divine as it's literally 10-15 steps away from this great wooden walkway of Moonstone Beach. They give you this breakfast in a box like everyone has said. I would say pass on the salmon bagel thing, and definately get the puffed pastry filled with bacon egg and cheese. It's not ALOT of food, but enough to sustain you for a couple of hours. I dont know if there's anything to do in this small town except for the view of Moonstone Beach and Hearst Castle, but if I do come back to Cambria, I'd definately stay at this inn again! read more

Outstanding! What an amazing get away along the central Cali coast. The town is charming, the views spectacular, and the Blue Dolphin Inn was simply awesome. Dawn (the Blonde) was a pleasure and makes you feel at home. We got there with 55 minutes until sunset and she whisked us to our room and showed off our room amenities in style. Breakfast in bed was a nice touch and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Quick tip, the 3 "patio" rooms have the best view and have full screen doors that walk out onto a spacious patio with love seats. The best view in the house and WELL worth the extra $! Also, I'd eat at the Black Cat over the Pig's Sow if I were to do it over again. We can't wait to go back to Cambria and stay at the Blue Dolphin Inn again. read more

I treated the BF to weekend gateaway to Cambria since we've both never explore California's central coast. Blue Dolphin Inn is located just steps from the beach. There's a small road separating the inn from the water. Be sure to take advantage of the location by booking a room with a view. Blue Dolphin Inn is dog friendly but only certain rooms allow dogs. Our dog had a blast! We stayed in a king room with partial view and had a fireplace which was an added perk. The décor was modern, clean, staff was friendly, ample parking... but what I really loved was the complimentary breakfast. Every night, you leave your order outside and they'll deliver it to you at your requested time. It's in a brown bag which is great to take for a picnic and stroll along the beach. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

I'd give it five stars if the room were about 100 bucks cheaper, but it's not, so I have to hold it to a slightly higher standard. The staff - amazing. They totally helped me with a somewhat complicated surprise for my boyfriend's birthday (we had friends in another room there, which my boyfriend had NO clue about - it went off without a hitch, thanks to the staff). They were also nice enough to provide, unsolicited, a birthday cake for my boyfriend. But...for the amount they charge, I think that attention to tiny details might be called for. Some of this is really personal preference, and some, maybe not so much. First, the decor: the room was sort of a hodgepodge of genres. Eh, fine, but I really do hate silk flowers. The fireplace is a little on the cheesy side as well, but it did toast up the room nicely. We were freezing! The biggest issue for me was the tub did not work. I live in a small place and have only a shower, so when I go away to someplace really nice, I like to bathe. I mentioned to the front desk that the tub was not working properly in my room (I did manage to bathe - I just crammed a washcloth down the drain) and was told that a maintenance guy would be informed, but there was no change. Of course, we were only there for two days, but still. Maybe a little $ off on the room? I was also not that crazy about the breakfast. First, we marked off the time we wanted it and both days it was late. Not that big a deal, but again, a slightly higher standard based on room rate alone. I wish they would provide real coffee cups as well and a large coffee maker, instead of the small coffeemaker with paper cups. I liked the fact that it was delivered to the room, but having a picnic style breakfast was sort of not what I had envisioned. That said, because our friends were in the next room, we ate our breakfast with them every morning and it was lovely. I guess I expected something fancier - like a hotel, with a bar, and a restaurant, or something. This is very bare-bones. Just a front desk and rooms. But yes, the view is terrific. What I didn't know going in is that there is virtually NO Wi-Fi in Cambria (can't blame the hotel for that) so that was frustrating. The Inn has their own Wi-Fi signal but it was fairly weak. All that said, we would totally go back. The most important thing of all: my boyfriend, for whom this whole thing was planned, absolutely loved the place and Cambria in general (me, not as much Cambria, but again, personal preference). And that's the most important thing of all. read more

This hotel was fantastic!! We stayed three nights and every day was so lovely! The breakfast box every morning was soooo good! The Blue Dolphin goes above and beyond! Here's a few things I didn't see listed in other reviews: They have dvds that you can check out to watch in your room and they leave you fresh cookies every afternoon! They must have put us near the kitchen because every afternoon, the smell of fresh baked cookies came wafting through our room! Sensational! They offer several pillows on the bed and we had a wonderful relaxing sleep. Every morning, we took our box breakfast down to the seashore. Loved that they had a Kurig coffee machine in our room as well as a fridge and microwave!! We hardly had to spend much money on food what with the filling breakfast and having leftovers from dinner at the local restaurants. Wonderful, nice, special touches and attention to detail! Spend the extra $$ for one of the three patio rooms. You won't be disappointed!! Enjoy the complimentary breakfast box on your patio or settle there to take in the sunset.....or maybe both. The rooms are individually decorated and very comfortable....especially, the bed. The Keurig coffee maker is a nice touch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have the menus of many local restaurants and will gladly make reservations. If you're an AT&T customer there is a minimal signal if any, but the free WiFi works just fine. We loved the Blue Dolphin. Seems like it has recently been updated, furniture and paint...etc. it was very nicely decorated and very very clean! Check in was quick and the lady was extremely nice and helpful. We had an ocean view room and the view was gorgeous, a corner window that looked out over the ocean. The bed was comfy, the little fireplace was a nice touch and the room had all the amenities we needed including a fridge, microwave and keurig machine for coffee. Each morning of your stay, they bring you a breakfast of your choosing. The tub was large and spacious, perfect for relaxing. There were many spots out front to sit and relax outside the hotel and the grounds were very cute. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the amount of parking spaces, although there was no one there during our stay and parking was no problem for us, I could see it being a problem during a busier time, also I don't believe this inn had a pool or jacuzzi....but you could just go to the beach!! This hotel was great not only for the view but all of the little touches here and there, they really compensate for your every need, it was the simple things that really made us appreciate this room and made us feel like they go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable during your stay! read more

Just experienced my first stay at the Blue Dolphin and can hardly wait to go back again. Starting at check-in it was easy to see how the employees really have a desire to make your stay the best. They walked us to our room, showed us where everything was, gave us suggestions for dinner places, etc. Loved our "picnic breakfast" delivered on time to our room and was just as ordered. We have been coming to Moonstone beach for nearly 30 years and stayed at the Blue Dolphin Inn this weekend . It was a perfect stay and we will definitely be back . Our twin queen room was cozy and had a great view of the ocean . Staff was friendly and the breakfast burritos were yummy ! Nice location, steps from the ocean. Clean rooms, friendly staff and box breakfasts. The wifi doesn't allow for ipad connections or VOIP calling which sucks big time. Parking is a bit limited too. But a bargain! They really are making an effort at being enviro-friendly too. read more

My family loves the Blue Dolphin, it a great little inn in Cambria, my only complaint is they don't have a pool and swimming is a part of my daily routine, but other than that they hit it just right on every other note. We come up here for quick getaways, but Cambria is also a great town to break up the drive between L.A. and San Francisco. The rooms are very well appointed and when you are up front have great views of the ocean and Moonstone Beach. They do a lot of services you only find in Five Star places like a nightly turndown with a chocolate treat on your pillow. The staff is very warm and helpful and have bent over backwards to accommodate us when we've had special requests. read more

Stayed there for 2 nights in Oceanfront room -- for me it was overpriced. Location of the hotel is great, but there are many others on Moonstone Beach Drive. Patio area in front of the unit is open to all, and we had a bunch of kids running around it, looking into our room, so minimal privacy. Bed was not that comfortable, fireplace is phony electric, bathroom fan sounds like a jet taking off. Having just come from the Hotel Chival in Paso Robles, it was a bit of a letdown for the same price. read more

I have stayed at fancier places but I'm not sure I've ever stayed at a nicer one. We were in the Saldanha Bay room and it was fantastic. The room is absolutely beautiful and since it is on the second floor we were able to leave the windows open all night and listen to the waves crashing on beach. Although the other rooms are also very nice, spend the extra couple of bucks and get a named room. It's worth it. The staff here is fantastic and they even deliver a boxed breakfast to your room in the morning. read more

You will have so many choices in Cambria but none more perfect than the Blue Dolphin Inn and, in fact, any of this collections' hotels. It is simply a divine experience. Before CoVid, staying here was superb. But since CoVid, we are ever more sensitive to cleanliness, space, privacy, and attention. The staff at Blue Dolphin Inn are artfully successful at all of this. We were warmly greeted and quickly oriented to the space. The room was spacious, clean, and incredibly well appointed. We had a set of high quality flatware, nice sized fridge, microwave, and coffee/tea bar, all perfect for the new restrictions on indoor dining! We slept in beds so comfortable we want to purchase the same for our own home! The entire experience was relaxing--an ideal balance of having attention when we needed it but having peace and privacy as the centerpiece. The proximity to a long walk along the ocean is so fun! You don't need to be staying in one of the front rooms to enjoy an open patio with an ocean view and your glass of wine at sunset or your hot coffee at sunrise. Our only association with these properties in Cambria is relaxation, deep breaths, and serenity. This review is more for customer service. I actually booked the Moonstone Cottages for which you have to check in at the Blue Dolphin. I made a huge mistake while booking for my anniversary and entered the dates wrong. I was supposed to check in on Saturday and leave Sunday but I accidentally booked Friday to Saturday. We were so disappointed when we realized on the date of check in at about 4pm (we are a 2 hour drive away) that that was the night we were supposed to check in at the cottages for our anniversary!! My husband called and spoke to Jill at the Blue Dolphin and I can't emphasize enough how much she went out of her way to accommodate us with a last minute room at the Blue Dolphin for the second night and made us feel as if all wasn't a total loss. We enjoyed our stay with our partial ocean view and the sound of crashing waves while sleeping. We appreciate the service so very much and look forward to booking in the future. read more

The Blue Dolphin Inn is a lovely place to stay in Cambria. The inn is clean, nicely decorated, and comfortable. We stayed in the "Aegean Sea" room, with a canopy bed and an ocean view. Listening to the sound of crashing waves was so relaxing. The bathroom is large and nicely done (separate shower from sunken tub). The patio is huge and inviting. The room includes a delivered breakfast, which was good, but nothing fancy. However, it was nice to have a little something to eat in the morning before heading out. The staff was welcoming and helpful. We would definitely return and highly recommend it! Oh I should mention there is no cell phone reception, which can pose a problem for some. In 2009, we spent our first anniversary in the Seascape cottage on Moonstone. We loved it more than any other place we had ever stayed In San Simeon/Cambria. We made reservations for Thanksgiving in the Garden Gate cottage. It was ready early, clean, and they let us in early. The only problem was, I didn't care for the room as much as the Seascape. I'm a big girl, and need a lot of room. The bed was just too small. I went to the office and spoke to Christina, who was as lovely and as nice as anyone in customer service, should and could be. She happily showed me another room, and didn't make me feel silly for asking. Beautiful room, and we moved with not a single problem. I am ever so grateful to her for making it so easy. We are your regular working stiffs with no extra money to throw around, so it's very important to me to get exactly what I want. Christina made it happen. And for any naysayers, never met her before November 27, 2014, in my life. I hope and pray to go back top a second or first story, facing the ocean on a moonlit night. I suggest anyone who can, do so. :) read more

Booked a room for a Sunday night for my girlfriend's birthday weekend. Sadly the front rooms were all booked up so opted for the mini-suite room at the back of the hotel (figured if I can't have a view, then I shall have space!). Impression of room was ok, but not a reflection of all the rave reviews this place is getting. The room was marketed as having a cosy fireplace. Yes, it had a fireplace, but it was tucked into the corner of the bedroom, so impossible to sit in front of and relax. Also, it was one of those gas imitation log fireplaces from the 1980's. Not impressed. The elderly staff member who booked us in was very nice, but not very knowledgable. To my surprise, I found out she lived locally, but when I asked her about restaurants, places to go etc she proceeded to stream off lots of places which 'she had been told' were very good. How can she live in this small place but never have visited any of these restaurants or places of interest?!! Not very helpful. Condition and cleanliness of hotel was good. Shower was not very good - it was a rain type head, but very low flow, so took ages to shower. Frustrating. Free wifi, breakfast delivered in the morning - also very good. Even in a packed box so you an take it with you. Nice touch. Overall - ok, but not the best in Cambria. The Fogcatcher is actually a nicer place. Beware that most of the people here are reviewing based on staying in the front facing rooms, for which there are maybe only 4 available. If you are prepared to pay the overpriced fee for one of those, you will not care about the room because the sea is right there in front of you. 2 stars I'm afraid. It's just too basic, no pool, no views for most rooms, and poor value for money. read more

What a romantic, charming hotel, even better than the pictures portray. We escaped on a little winter getaway and stayed in one of the two second-floor full-ocean-view king rooms, the "Saldanha Bay" room (the other is the Anaho Bay room). This has a more bed-and-breakfast feel, very cozy ambiance. Included in the charge was breakfast delivered to our room. The sounds of the ocean breaking right outside our window was so soothing, we needed this! Of special interest to the shomer Shabbos...the room keys are metal keys, not electronic cards. Our room had a journal we could write in about our experience. I enjoyed reading entries by all the honeymooners and other lovers who had passed through this room before us, I could sense all the good energy. read more
