The Islander satisfied that desire for a more interesting flavor profile. Pineapple mango salsa & habanero aioli. Pineapples generally intensify spices, but I found it fairly mild overall. Naturally, the next step was to go straight to Mount Blucuvious with ghost pepper cheese. This one brings a little more heat, but, honestly, still not as intense as expected. There are still great flavors being produced, but for the general American pallet. This location is in a peaceful neighborhood area of Saint Paul. Street parking is required, but watch out for tickets. I believe there's even a warning sign in the restaurant about it. Yes it's worth the hype. Having never had a juicy lucy before Blue Doors burgers were second to none. The meat patties are large with all those goodness you expect inside. The sides were actually my best picks. The tater tot's were sweet, salty, savory simply the best. The Cajun fries still have the skin on it - I like that. You also can't go wrong the cheese curds. I did find the Avocado bacon burger to be too spicy that it interferes with the rest of the burger. The blue cheeseburger is heavy both in flavor and substance. You need to pair this with red wine to cut the taste. The classic juicy Lucy was perfectly salted and moist. An explosion of cheese on the inside. Highly recommended! read more

Cheese oozage: amazing. Construction: eh The burger held up pretty well during the 20 minute drive from longfellow back home, but the bottom bun did get a bit soggy. The pulled pork though had to be rearranged as it had run off the top of the burger and just made a loop around it. I know a to go order is never going to be as good as an in house burger but this seemed more like human error than travel time. Once reconstructed, the flavors merged together seamlessly. Cool slaw, smoky sweet pulled pork, oozy cheese, and a well seasoned patty. The tots weren't very crisp after being steamed along side my burger during the drive, but they still tasted great. The to go process was so easy. Ordered ahead online, picked up at the window. Total interaction had to be less than a minute, but they dont scrimp on the service. This place is a neighborhood gem. We only go every once in awhile, but it's the perfect casual dinner spot on a chilly winter evening. I think this is the best Blue Door in the Minneapolis area - it's open, spacious, had high ceilings and more seating than most others. We sat at the bar as Friday nights typically fill up quickly, and had no problem getting quick drink service. They have a good selection of beers, some ciders and a few wines to choose from - no hard liquor, so don't come here for cocktail night! We ordered a cider and a white claw, and started out with their spicy cheese curds -obviously I couldn't tell if the cheese itself was spicy or if it was the light dry rub, but those are amazing! The selection of Juicy Lucy's is good - about 10 to choose from and that's really what you should get here, unless you're coming for the happy hour deals (the fried green beans are a good choice). We both ordered the Longfellow burger, which comes a la cart, but you can order tots/fries etc if you want. The cheese curds were filling, so we skipped. Omg. No wonder the Longfellow is the flagship burger - melting herbed goat cheese, blackberry sauce and a super juicy burger that thankfully didn't squirt out boiling cheese at you like you can sometimes expect with other Juicy Lucy's. The bun is special....didn't ask, but they seemed too fresh to not be made on site. Fries were abundant and seemed made from fresh, not frozen. They have a rotating specialty burger and this particular visit a Chicken Cordonbleu was tried by my dining pal. It was a normal sized beef patty topped with some chicken breast and shaved ham with a white cheese sauce. I tried a chunk of it and while tasty, it was an odd combo for me I didn't feel went together. I've had a ground beef burger topped with a different cut of beef, such as smoked brisket, and that was complimentary. The young man who seated us said "here's the code to scan for menu and ordering; I'll be by every so often though" We requested a paper menu (one of us has poor eyesight, the other didn't bring his phone) and were told they don't have any. Today my friends and I were trying to stay away from the cold, so we decided to go to the Blue Door. I only had $20 so I just ordered tater tots. When we were seated, we were told that you had to order and pay online. I'm ok with online ordering, but I only had cash. The waitress that was helping my friends and I told us that if we put a credit card into the system, we could pay with the cash when we finished eating. Because I didn't have a credit card, the waitress just took our order on a tablet. When we accidentally ordered two things of tater tots, she canceled the payment for the second basket. So I came here upon a recommendation from a friend. Given that I may not get back to MN for a while I wanted to see what all the rave was about. I ordered the Longfellow burger. I would say overall the place was cool. Clean, pleasant, and I was seated quickly. My server Michelle was pleasant and offered to explain the different burgers. My initial perception of the meal was .... meh. The burger patties themselves were very much on the thin side but very tasty. The cheese really came through and the Cajon tots on the side were well seasoned. For me this is going to be a "box checked" experience. Great place. The Blue Door is great for those late night bar food cravings! Juicy burgers, great apps, low-key atmosphere. The dining experience is a little different due to COVID - you place your order from your phone and also pay online. It's a little harder to get ahold of the servers just because they're not frequently at your table, but it's not too bad. It took me awhile to get a water refill. The food came out very quickly and was hot and delicious. I had the cease & desist burger with added onions. SO GOOD. Lots of veggies and gooey cheese. My husband had the classic burger and really enjoyed it. We also tried the Nacho Tachos, which were a great deal on Happy Hour (around $5.50). I don't think I'd pay the normal $10 for them, but it was well worth it with the discount. All in all, great place if you need a burger fix! read more

We aren't regulars nor first timers. The food has always been good as has the service. Our visit in May 2023 had us seated promptly and very friendly. It was our first since they went to ALL online ordering which surprised us. Issues getting the app to load added to the frustration (along with trying to read a menu on the phones with not 20/20 eyeballs). There is no other way to order anymore. Trying to ask questions resulting in repeatedly having to stand up and get someone's attention (Including when the app would not load) :( Finally got the app to load and figured out orders (and the fact ONE person secures all orders for your table...but you can pay separately at the end (again not clear and a bit frustrating until we figured that out)). Submitted our orders but something didn't work and when we again got help the server was far from patient and literally stood over the person re-entering all her information including her credit card number and then was scrolling up and down on her phone when it kept having errors. Seriously? There is a CC number sitting right there... Can only hope for no credit theft I guess. We eventually seemed to get a different server after ours made a bit of a scene over catching him again as one of four people had a LOT less of a side they everyone else. Yes this he made an issue of and loudly pronounced how we were difficult. After that a different server seemed to finish off our service (she was quite cordial and appropriate). The food was good. Absolutely. The service left much to be desired. Do not go if you are not comfortable with what you want, 100% online ordering and tipping pretty much just for carrying your food from the kitchen to your table. I had to update this review! Love this place; although I prefer the tiny location on Selby. Great beer selection, cute little bar, and everything I've had on the menu has been delightfully sinful. Seriously if you're looking to break your diet or to cheat hardcore, this is your place. The bluecy! I like the Horsekick. My brother likes the Jiffy, although to me it just tastes like straight up jif, which I guess that's what it is. It could use something. Fried green beans with yummy spicy sauce, fried pickles, cheese curds, and I have not tried their wings because I don't get that far. Crave that Horsekick! So the bad stuff: parking is stupid and street, be prepared to walk and wait once you get in because they're busy. I've had friendlier service. This is what I don't like about some Minneapolis joints - the staff think they're really cool and can be aloof, standoffish, off putting, etc. too cool for school. Anyway, check it out for the food. Blue door pub in Minne is in the Longfellow neighborhood which is 15 min from downtown. It is in a residential neighborhood and has a blue door. The food is fantastic. The picinic blucy which has cheese and pulled pork was magic- and the buffalo tots? OMG so good. Even the bleu cheese it came with was amazing. I went with a work group. We tried spam bites and latin kisses. The latin kisses are AMAZING! A must. This is a spacious location with art on the walls. They have kids menus and crayons. I understand why people can't decide on who has the best juicy lucy. The answer is they all do and we all win. read more

It's still as if your shoulder to shoulder with everyone else. Noticed a table leave and nothing g more was done than a quick wipe of the table top before the next table was sat. No condiments, chairs etc. if you don't care about COVID precautions then for the love of gawd get rid of the ridiculous ordering system. It makes no sense and is so stressful when with older adults/kids. If all other precautions were in place, by all means, but this seriously appeared to be a way to cut costs at the diners expense. Food was good- hot- fast. Always is solid here, but we live in Minneapolis and I can say that for many restaurants near by. The complete lack of masks by staff and other diners as the entered a and moved about was a deal breaker. TL:DR: It's an ok burger place, but don't get the bacon blucy or expect any above and beyond service. Wait staff: The wait staff was nice, but it seemed there was one waiter for the whole restaurant. That makes sense, I guess, since you order on your phone and they don't check back in with you the whole time. This seems by design and is likely what management wants, so I don't blame the waiter... but it's not ideal if you have a problem with your food. The food: The fries were great and my husband's blucy was good. I, however, got a "bacon" blucy. Very unimpressive. After I finally found someone to ask where the bacon was, he said there "should be a few bacon bits on the inside". So, if you want to taste the bacon, you might want to order some on the side or something? I had to search the center of my burger to find a few tiny pieces. Again, not the waiters fault. Management clearly made this choice as well. Spending half of the time I was eating my burger trying to find any bacon at all affected my experience more than I'd like to admit. My partner and I took my brother and his girlfriend here when they were visiting town, as we wanted to show them the iconic "Blucy" that Blue Door has to offer. We called around all 3 of the nearby locations and this restaurant had the shortest wait on a Saturday night around 7:30pm (40 minutes). Unfortunately, they had a really small waiting area, so we were pretty crammed without seats at the bar the entire time. I did appreciate the chance to get a drink at the bar while we waited, but gosh we were hangry by the time 8pm came around. Right after we were seated, we were greeted by our waitress. She took our orders immediately, and got our food out really fast! By the time we sat down and paid our check, our entire meal took only 30 minutes. Add in some hangman we were playing on the chalk walls while our meal was cooked, and we were really happy with our overall experience (minus the small waiting area). I would recommend the cajun tots to anyone who goes there, because they give you so much! I shared that with my Classic Blucy and was very satisfied with my meal. For two burgers and a side of tots w/o drinks, we only paid $22 and change. Absolutely worth the price. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Minneapolis. I have been here so many times and I took a lot of my friends here too. Whenever I come here, I always order Jiffy burger with either Sweet Chili Lime or Frogtown wings. If this is your first time here, I highly recommend you try Jiffy burger.
