A friend referred to this place as a "high end plate lunch" on our recent trip. We ended up going to this restaurant on two occasions because it's either this, Cafe 565, or the gas station. Breakfast was DELICIOUS! The stars are for the food. It's a little place in town that's not dressy but is great! I got the french toast, portuguese sausage, eggs and toast (I don't recommend the hash brown it appears to be frozen). The eggs were cooked to perfection along with the delicious french toast. We visited the Blue Ginger Café last summer while in Lanai. The breakfast was yummy and the prices were good. The best thing was the smell of fresh bread and bakery items baking! We purchased a blueberry turnover to share on the road and we LOVED it so much that we went back later and purchased 2 more! I would love to have their recipe for the dough. It was out of this world! I come here every time I'm on Lanai, which is usually 2-3 times a year. It is always consistent and that is difficult to do on a island where everything is shipped in once a week. Blue Ginger is by far the best of all the non-hotel eateries, and a welcome break from the stuffy high-dollar restaurants. WORSE BREAKFAST PLACE I EVER ATE! Can not believe this place made it to Zagat list. Zagat normally have the best choices but this time they got it completely wrong. Walked into this place and the entire restaurant smelled like very cheap coffee being brewed, the girl at the counter never said hi, the menu was crowded and confusing. Just overwhelming. We seated at the table and the counter girl finally come to us saying that we need to order at the counter. I asked the girl what kind was being brewed and she showed me a huge can of CHEAP costco coffee. Aren't we in Hawai'i? Kona coffee is very good and you can find some reasonable price ones. Well, already got disappointed there and asked for a bottle of the iced Starbucks coffee and ordered some meat and eggs with hash brown. When we tasted the hash brown what a surprise: it was fried on super OLD fish oil. It tasted like SHIT! Horrible! I couldn't believe they were serving that to the costumers. Also it wasn't nice hash brown, it was Macdonalds style hash brown probably bought at costco. I can't still not believe this place made it to the Zagat list. Horrible! spent a week on lanai for work, and i ate 80% of my meals here. old faithful blue ginger. if you've been on lanai (and not the 4 seasons), you know there are a very limited number of places to eat (and grocery shop) and a very small time frame to do it...hence 80%. the food is pretty good. tried all kind of stuff, chow fun stir fry (plenty vegetables), roast pork (ok), chicken katsu (fried well), egg sandwich, apple turnover and a bunch of other stuff. it's good enough, it's fast enough, and gosh darn it, sometimes it's the only thing open. oh, i think george lopez and wife pickup food here sometimes (they own 2 homes on lanai). read more

We went to Lanai to explore and was told to eat at Blue Ginger. One never knows what to expect in a place where there are few restaurants and there is a captive nature involved for their is little choice. Blue Ginger is one of those places that would be successful everywhere. The diversity of the menu is extraordinary and the food is incredible tasty. The prices are extremely reasonable and I can understand why both residents and visitors come for breakfast and lunch. It is not a fancy restaurant and there is no view; it is rustic with fine food. Choices are limited on Lanai, but given that, the Blue Ginger Cafe was a good place to eat. There were good local food choices -- chicken katsu, pork cutlet, loco moco, etc. I ate the hamburger steak and it was quite good. You can switch mac salad for toss salad. read more

I always want to eat like the locals. In Hawaii it's a plate lunch, 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of macaroni salad plus a protein. It's no different in Lana'i, Blue Ginger Cafe is great Hawaiian style food. I had the Terriyaki Chicken Plate; scoop of rice, scoop of macaroni salad or small salad and 4 large pieces of Terriyaki Chicken. Wife had small Saimin which she also liked but was a plenty big bowl of noodles, fish cake, spam, green onions. Our daughter had a Grilled Cheese Sandwich made with their homemade bread and a Cherry turnover. All three ate to being very full for less than $20. No fancy but good food. read more

We took a ferry boat to Lanai on a whim, having no idea what to expect. After taking the shuttle up to town we enjoyed some fabulous omelets here. I would not expect such a serene place that must get overrun by tourists to be so incredibly friendly...but they are. Genuinely friendly. The first place I tried food at in Lanai was Pele's Cafe. I had heard some good things from my father-in-law that had gone there a few months ago. I don't stand by his opinion. The food is fine but the owner is so rude. When asked if my wrap came with a side, he gave me the smart-ass remark of "no, maybe my gratitude," also said with an attitude. I work in the service industry, not cool. When you live in such a small town where tourism is your life line, you should learn to be nice to the persons that give you business. So I therefore turned to the Blue Ginger Cafe. This place had excellent food for dinner, which is cooked to order; and they also had some fabulous pastries for breakfast. My family and I ate here a lot during our visit at Koele Lodge. It was nice to be treated in a respectful manner. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the workers there are very nice. If I go back to Lanai I will eat here again. I suggest it to anyone that is going to visit. read more

Great place for local food at a reasonable price on Lanai. My husband and I had breakfast here and enjoyed their breakfast burrito and portuguese sausage with fried rice breakfast. Delicious and affordable. This is a casual place where you order at the counter and they bring you your food. They are also a bakery and they make all of their bread and pastries. My husband and I had stir fries and they were so good, with lots of crunchy veggies. My son had a burger and he ate every bite, which never happens. They have a TV with the sports channel. read more
