Curry was definitely not a 7/10, and their pad thai is missing something, not sure what, but definitely not the authentic pad thai flavor. We also ordered a sushi roll, and when it got to us, it is completely turned over and messed up. I mean, I understand it could have been the problem of the deliver service, but even the box that they used seemed to be WAY too big for this one particular roll. I didn't dine inside but had an order for take out so i can't say much about the service but as far as the food go we had the following: Brown rice with fried vegetables and chicken - my friend order this dish and I tried a few bites. Not my favorite, the chicken was kind of tasteless and by that I mean it tasted like someone just gave you cooked chicken without spicing it. My take : nothing special. ($9.95) Super salmon sushi - this was my dish, it tasted great and had caviar with some dressing on top of each piece. You get 8 pieces and it seems well prepared. I highly recommend it. ($11.95) Mushroom Mountain with prawns and calamari - my girl tried this one, I didn't cause I can't stand calamari but she said it was delicious. I might try this dish with chicken ($12.95) Veggie Rolls - again nothing amazing, they did go light on the oil, some places I had veggie rolls you feel like your are drinking oil. Seems quality of the food degraded a lot in the recent times. We ordered Pineapple rice and to our surprise Pineapples were missing. Since it's a takeout order, didn't realize it till we reached home. Called the restaurant immediately and manager mentioned about refunding the money. The food is good but portions are on the small side. As a vegan I like that they have a number of options and a separate veggie menu. Their main problem is takeout. Blue Mango...why is it called that? Lol. Well there's a blue wall on one side with lots of nice decorations! This place was pretty good and satisfying, but I was also very hungry ! They have both japanese and thai items on the menu. It's mostly Thai cusine with a small menu of sushi rolls (no bento boxes). Well I been craving thai food lately, so I decided to give this place a try since my friends all tried it and said it was pretty good! Came in and a guy seated us at a small table for two -- wish we had a bigger table cause we ordered a lot of food. Ordered a yellow curry with chicken ($9.95), eggplant basil with pork ($9.95), 2 steamed rice ($2 each), cucumber roll ($4.75), and unagi hand roll ($3.95) -- of course we eat a lot for two people :) Overall, everything was yummy and portion size was good and we had a lot of leftovers -- but the sushi was not fantastic, just okay (rice was kind of hard), so I recommend sticking to the thai food here :) read more

DID THIS PLACE *JUST* OPEN? I'm being sarcastic. I'm not from San Jose, so I was delighted to try this Thai/Japanese restaurant with friends before seeing a concert at SAP this weekend. I didn't want anything too heavy, so sushi seemed like the best way to go. This place did not deliver. **As a former waitress, allow me to break this down. (1) NO STRAW: God forbid you walk into this place thirsty and actually care about germs, bc once you actually GET your water, it takes forever to get a straw. Parched does not even BEGIN to explain how I felt walking into Blue Mango, and I was about to find the straws myself. Time to receive straw: 10 minutes. (2) NO WATER REFILLS: Let me ask for water a few more times. Better yet, let me grab the water pitcher from behind the counter. That's EXACTLY what we had to do, bc we were ALL parched. I would have excused this had one of the waitresses who actually SAW us take the water pitcher apologize and help us out, but nope. Let me go ahead and do your job for you. (3) WATER REFILL IN THAI TEA: Surprise! Someone in our group actually got a refill on their water, but INTO THEIR UNFINISHED THAI TEA. If she wanted milky water, I'm sure she would have asked for it. No apology received on that mistake either. (4) BONES IN SUSHI: I love unagi and have ordered rolls WITH unagi at every sushi restaurant I visit. I can excuse a few soft bones that are naturally in eel, but these were BRITTLE. The only silver lining was that the sushi chef came out and apologized. He also decided to educate us on how eels have bone and that there will ALWAYS be bone in sushi rolls with unagi. Allow me to pretend not to sense your condescending tone and nod along as if I didn't know this info while I refer to a good friend of mine who is a professional sushi chef and can speak to your flawed sushi prep. Everything from your usual Thai dishes to Sushi rolls. One note that may scare off those afraid of a little heat. The food here has a fairly spicy interpretation of the word "medium". The Tom Yum soup that we ordered medium spice (their lowest level for this soup) was much more on the hotter side of the Scoville Scale than I'm used to at other places. I liked it but my girl couldn't finish her share. That left more for me along with a few tears from the spices. The green curry was spicy but much more mellowed by the coconut base so as not to cause the tear ducts to open up. The Pad Kee Mow was pretty tasty and had just about the right amount of spice for me coming from someone that usually orders it "spicy" at most restaurants. After having had their fiery food, I can see why the waitress is constantly ensuring that your water glass stays full. I like Blue Mango for their excellent service. I come in, and there is this huge 6 armed elephant deity staring at me, where instead there should be an amiable host/hostess. My girlfriend and I waited for a good minute or two before being asked (in broken English) how many was in our party. The place wasn't even packed to even excuse the delayed welcome, so I was flustered and asked frankly, "Just two, is that okay?". My girlfriend and I were seated and given menus. I laughed at the term "fusion" being tossed around like a petulant step child. The food was nowhere near fusion. It was just a restaurant trying to be clever and serve two types of COMPLETELY differing cuisines. But whatever, I was hungry. Our server came and told us about the special "sushi" they had going. It was a hamachi, jalapeno, & spicy sauce "maki sushi". My girlfriend wanted to try it, so I was like what the hay right? WRONG. I should have known the hamachi would not likely be able to stand out on its own. She also ordered some other things which I didn't bother tasting. Very, very middle-of-the-road Thai food and not-so-good sushi. I wouldn't ever choose to come here, but if somebody else is paying, sure. Like I said, the sushi is not what you should be ordering here. It's thick, haphazardly-sliced slabs of fish that is getting on the fishier side of the freshness scale. Roll ingredients are not fresh, and there is no art to the experience whatsoever. The Thai food is your average takeout Thai place. I've learned that the crab fried rice (if the crab hasn't been out too long!) and the panang curries are the way to go. Their noodles are limp and drowning in sauce, the chicken is generally chewy, and the tom kha soup very bland. As a general rule, don't go for the seafood here. One thing I do recommend ordering if you come here is the fresh coconut. That's a hard one to screw up and is fresh and delicious! I haven't had a bad experience with service here, but I know it can get very busy. read more

The food was decent... But the service was horrible. We asked to sit in a corner location, one waitress said that it was ok, and upon walking to the table we were barked at by a 2nd waitress. They made us sit at a table that was directly next to another table of four. The table was practically connected. We had to ask the waitress to order our meal in the first place. She had no idea that we hadn't even ordered. We never offered menus. The dishes were never distributed among our table. The dishes were never cleared. We ordered dessert TWICE and never got it! They started putting the chairs up and ignored us. Then we had to flag someone down to get the check! We tried to split the bill 3 ways, which fairly easy, but a dining faux pas... This Thai restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu (which appears to be 99% vegan, with the exception of one or two dishes with eggs) which makes it stand out from the rest of the Thai multitudes. The menu explicitly states it doesn't use fish sauce, oyster sauce or chicken broth (that said, I didn't ask about shrimp paste, another common animal ingredient in Thai food). Despite being located in a generic stripmall, the food here is surprisingly high grade. We started off with a "peanut rounds" appetizer ($6). This dish is unusual (I've never seen anything similar at any of the hundreds of Thai restaurants I've been to) and was also pretty tasty: basically it's a fried rice ball coated in peanuts and spiced with turmeric and basil. It's a great dish to share. For our main courses we had a panang curry ($10) and a dried chili and cashew with tofu ($9). The curry was really thick and substantial---you don't see curries made this way very often. They must be using some high quality coconut milk, which resulted in a thick and creamy delight. The dish was skimpy on vegetables and tofu, though, which gives me some pause. The dried chili and cashew dish was excellent. It was a robust, spicy stir-fry with baby corn, water chestnuts, tofu and some other vegetables. I really loved the savory flavor of this dish and the fact that it wasn't just a watery soy sauce stir-fry with a twig of basil (which is what you usually see at Thai restaurants). They roasted the red chili perfectly, giving the dish a smoky flavor, which only added another dimension to the spice and overall heft of the dish. Brown rice is available for an extra charge ($2 per person), and while it's a shame they charge for rice, at least they use a really ritzy variety of Thai rice. I had only a couple of gripes: 1) the restaurant closed at 9:30 p.m. and they attempted to (politely) rush us out the door shortly after that. Seeing as how we'd only arrived at 9:10, it seemed ridiculous to push us out so quickly. If you run a service business, you should never kick a guest out, even if you're technically already closed. There were two other parties in the place, too, so it strikes me as an issue better solved with a "last orders" policy. 2) While the quality of the food was excellent here, they don't offer any vegan mockmeat products. Where's the seitan? Or fake chicken? Tofu alone is not enough in this day and age. In conclusion, Blue Mango is a really good Thai restaurant. The flavors are bold and spicy and not adulterated like at most other stripmall Thai joints. Their vegetarian (mostly vegan) menu is also a nice feature. read more

Went here with some co-workers for lunch. They have lunch "specials" but the specials are still a little on the pricey side for what you get (starts at about $8.50). It comes with a sour soup and a salad (the salad had a wierd thickish dressing that tasted like lemon meringue). The food was ok. I got the green chicken curry which was a pretty generous portion and it had a lot of chicken, bamboo shoots and eggplant. My co-workers got pad thai and penang curry. The pad thai plate looked really small and the penang curry looked a bit oily on top. So something bothered me at the end of our meal which is the main reason for the 1 star rating. As the waitress was cleaning up our table, I asked for a to-go box and she courteously said ok. Then another waitress came and grabbed my dish and my co-worker's dish. This second waitress put my co-worker's used utensils into my food. When I told her I wanted to take my leftovers to go, she quickly took the dirty utensils out of my dish and went to the back to pack my now tainted leftovers. It just seemed like she was trying to hide the fact that she contaminated my dish. I took the packed leftovers but threw it away when I passed a trash can. Just the fact that she didn't apologize or admit that she did that makes me think hmm, maybe they won't hesitate to give customers dirty utensils or dropped food. I probably won't be back. read more

Let me start by sharing that I STILL can't get over the fact that Blue Mango on Stevens Creek closed down. I loved that location (cause it was closer to me) and more so the staff. Well since that Blue Mango is closed, I was okay with driving a little further out to Blue Mango on Coleman. I've been to this on twice and after my latest visit I don't really want to come back. Most recently I visited on a Monday night around 5:30 PM, quite early for dinner just so we could beat the dinner rush. We were seated in an okay amount of time, there was some awkward waiting around the front since no one was there to greet us. We we're seated and most of the dinner went okay. My fiance and I started with the roti with panang curry. It was pretty good, the curry here is pretty fabulous. The roti were kind of oily though, but nothing intolerable. For the main entrees we ordered the Rad Na noodles and Asparagus and Shiitake Mushroom stir fry with chicken. The stir fry was good with the brown rice on the side. I like that the veggies tasted fresh. The Rad Na noodles were on the blander side, nothing too amazing about those there. Now the star of the show at the Blue Mango on Stevens Creek and this location is their dessert, coconut dipped fried bananas served with coconut ice cream. I was looking forward to this part of my meal so badly so when the lady came to ask us how our meal was going I was ready to order that dessert, BUT she brought the check with her. HOLD UPPPPP, this is a Monday night, basically three other parties in the restaurant and she wants to shoo us out. Clearly she noted by flabbergasted expression, because she then asked, "Um, oh, would you like some dessert?" I was not happy about that, I understand if it is busy or something you may shoo people out. It was not busy! Also she was coming to ask how our meal was, but with the check? I just felt slighted. So that evening ended without any dessert and I likely will not be going back. I really appreciated the kind service at Blue Mango on Stevens Creek, but my two visits to the Coleman location did not do justice. Bad customer service. They were too stingy with utensils. Charging ¢10 for each sets in a catering order. Do they expect people to eat with hands when you do takeout? This charge could have been easily accommodated in the tip that I would have given. One can imagine how lowest standard of service can be expected when they take customer experience for granted. The food is not that great to make this the only Thai food to visit. I'll have some other Thai place to go next time. Or select other Cusine if this is the only Thai place around. I wouldn't say Blue Mango was the best Thai food I've ever had but for a late lunch/early dinner, it hit the spot. And considering this location is in a shopping center, I'd say the restaurant's 'vibe' isn't exactly authentic, but more like Thai fast-food. I don't get the sushi connection either but I didn't try any so I really can't judge. We were greeted and seated immediately when we walked through the door. Our waitress was busy so we sat for a few minutes before she came to our table, although the place was not really that crowded. She was knowledgeable, friendly and never stopped smiling. I ordered the dried chili & cashew with chicken ($8.50): basically, stir-fried chicken & veggies like baby corn, two kinds of onion, carrot, tomato and water chestnut and a side of brown rice ($2). When asked about my heat preference, I asked for "the wimpiest possible." But I'll tell you, if what I got was the wimpiest setting on the heat scale, I definitely won't be ordering that dish again! (maybe that's why later that evening I wasn't feeling all that well). I should have gone with my first choice, the pra ram peanut chicken anyway. Husband had the spicy garlic stir-fry with calamari ($8.50) served over a bed of cabbage, also with a side of brown rice ($2). He likes hot & spicy so ordered it "Thai hot" as opposed to "American hot," that's about a killer 15 on the heat scale. He's also been to Blue Mango for lunch during the week when you get soup and salad with your meal, definitely a better value. He commented on the "lemon curd-like" salad dressing and said it was horrible. For stir-fried food, I have to say I didn't see a speck of extra oil or too much cornstarch in either dish and that's worth one star in my book. I've known about Blue Mango since seeing their neon sign come up at their Stevens Creek location almost a decade ago. I've seen this particular location built from the ground up and frequent the plaza often but never tried them out. I think my hesitation was the fact that it was a Thai/Sushi resto. I just can't comprehend the combination. I asked my assistant to pick a place to eat and sure enough, she choose Blue Mango. On the way there, I shared my hesitations but she reassured me that their Thai food was good. She told me that their Curries were good, especially the Yellow. I ended up ordering their Mango Curry with Chicken and she had the Pra-Ram with Tofu. We also ordered two iced teas. We were served a small bowl of soup first, which was a little too mild for me, but it was good. Then our entrees came out pretty quick and were served with a choice of Brown or White rice and a small salad. Her Pra Ram looked pretty good, although I the bed of Spinach it was sitting on was just raw spinach, isn't usually supposed to be sauteed? Different techniques for different restos, I guess. My Mango Curry smelled delicious so I spooned some of the sauce on to my rice, took a bite and man, that was some lovely curry! Of course, my beef wth ordering curry is that it's loaded with veggies that I don't care for so I have to search for the few pieces of meat swimming in the sauce. I cleaned the bowl of the sauce and the meat, leaving the veggies of course. Midway through our meal, our server refilled our waters and I realized we never got our iced teas, so I told her to cancel it. She came back with the drinks for take out, graciously apologized and said the drinks were on the house, which wasn't necessary but thought that was a great recovery. This place is complicated to review since somethings are very good and others are not. The good things we have tried are the Cream Cheese Wontons, Chicken Satay, and Pineapple Fried Rice, Musumum Curry and some of the stirfries. The biggest problem we have with this place is that they undercook the meat (especially the chicken and beef) in most of their dishes. To us this is not acceptable so when we come here we order our food either well done or without meat. Also recently the prices have gone way up and the quality is going down. The drinks were not offered until we already decided on our order. The tea was luke warm water with a cheap bag. The pad Thai was old rice noodles with too much chicken for the amount of noodles and far too much lime. No crushed peppers were provided on the side as I find in better places. The amount of crushed peanuts was paltry for the dish. The pineapple fried rice was so-so only, mixing raisins and canned pineapple chunks in with the cashews and chicken that needed to be cut into bite sized pieces. While we ordered a hand roll with the intention of it being an appetizer, it came out well after our meal, having sat on the counter in view for several minutes. The order of a soft shelled crab hand roll was a sloppily rolled piece with deep fried something. If there was crab meat in there, it certainly didn't taste like soft shelled crab I've had many times before. read more

My boyfriend and I were out shopping at Target and Trader Joes and decided to do lunch here. It was quiet and small. We ordered pad Thai, tom yum soup and curry fries with Thai iced tea and hot tea. Thai iced tea - delicious! But that was about it. The tom yum soup was okay but the chicken was dry.. Even in soup. I was avoiding the chicken just to scoop more mushrooms. The pad Thai.. Sigh.. Was definitely missing something. We thought maybe just needed more lime so we asked for some but even after it was still lacking. Boyfriend said lack of shallot oil. Curry fries are Curly fries with a side of curry. We got yellow curry but it wasn't as thick as we'd like. Fries were good though. One order of fries really needs two sides of curry which we had to get. But I think it should just come with a bigger cup of curry then. We were about the decide not to come back again but then they handed out their Christmas promotion which is an envelope with a random amount gift certificate that you cannot open until you return any day in January and the staff opens it for you. I came here yesterday morning with my gf for breakfast/lunch. We were the first customers in the restaurant. The waitress was still setting up the tables. We sat by the window. I noticed that the restaurant also serves sushi. I know I'm a little picky by stating this, but I don't like going to eat at places that speacializes in more than one thing. That is, it's either a Thai restaurant OR a Japanese restaurant, and NOT both. I asked my gf how the food here was and she said it's ok. "The portions are a little small", she said. The price ranges from $8-$20 dishes. The only reason we came to this place was because I've never eaten here before and I had an ex-coworder who talks about this place all the time. So, I had to cure my curiosity. What we ordered: chicken curry, seafood soup (tom yum), mango salad with prawns, and two bowls of rice. The verdict: I will not be back. The food was not good. New Krung Thai is definitely better. Don't go to the Original Krung Thai, the last time I ate there with my family, the food was really salty and horrible. I talked to my gf about it and she said the same thing. Although the parking at New Krung Thai is limited, but you can park infront of the burger joint next to NKT after 6 pm or 7 pm. I ordered yellow chicken curry with level 1 spice, but the spice was still overwhelming for my comfort. So I was totally turned off by the server wearing Kaiser scrubs while taking our order. I thought out loud, I hope he is about to go to work and didn't just get off of work before coming to his second job. Then.... I was totally moded when someone pointed out that it was a Halloween costume. In my defense, it wasn't Halloween night when I went, and they were real scrubs, not cheapy costume scrubs.. haha. We ordered: Penang Curry (Beef): 3 stars. This was just okay. I ordered medium spicy and it felt like it was not spicy at all. Stir Fry - Mango (Chicken) - 5 stars. I totally wished we had ordered another one of these. Although the description on the menu doesn't list it, garlic has a heavy presence and was much enjoyed. This was a big hit for the table. Spicy Noodles/Pad Kee Mao (shrimp) - 3 stars. Just okay. For some odd reason, when ordering this dish, we were asked for a spicy level of 1-10. We asked for 6. I wondered why the curry wasn't ordered on a number scale. The noodles were really spicy for a 6. Overall, I thought the portions were on the small side. I left a little hungry. I didn't want to order another dish since I didn't think it was worth it. Also, I hate places that charge per person for rice, especially at $2pp. Usually, places will just fill up a big bowl, but here they serve it to you in individual small bowls which are not very full. I do like how they ask if there are any vegetarians in your party when you are seated. It's nice to be asked instead of having to tell them. Service was very friendly, and waters were filled several times without having to ask. Always a plus! read more

This is my first time trying Blue Mango. I ordered Delivery through UberEATS and I must say I'm extremely impressed with how delicious and fresh everything looks! Will definitely order again! Took about an hour but that is what was estimated so I'm not mad. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night (7/28/13) around 8:30-9 o'clock and there was no wait. I ordered the spicy garlic and chicken over cabbage and my boyfriend ordered the mushroom mountain. Together we ordered the sweet potato stix with e sweet and sour sauce ( holy amazing) for our appetizer and deep fried bananas for dessert. We loved the atmosphere, casual and authentic and not too over the top. But the food was by far the best part of the night. Definitely go for the brown rice instead of white it's definitely more delicious than any brown rice I've had. Also, the mango iced tea is fantastic! You can't go wrong with the food at blue mango, everything we had was absolutely delicious and more than fairly priced. The only negative was the service, since we had come in within the last hour the service was slow and they were almost pushing us out the door. read more

The menu at this restaurant is somewhat limited but the food is good. Their vegetarian selection is actually better than many other places. I highly recommend their special for two. The portion is generous and you get appetizer samplers, two main dishes and dessert for only 35 bucks. Very good value. This restaurant is usually not overly busy. I seldom have to wait more than 10 minutes to get a table even on weekends. The service here is good. Servers are very attentive and food comes out quickly. read more

We go to Sweet Tomatoes very often, usually capped off with a shopping trip at Trader Joe's. Every time we walk from Sweet Tomatoes to TJ, our daughter points to Blue Mango and talks and talks about it. She can even draw the logo from memory. So one day when we had time for lunch, we brought her here. We started with the ahi tuna tataki (I think that's what it was called) for appetizer. Nicely presented, tuna was seared just right. Good start! I had the lamb. The menu makes the portion look a lot bigger, but when it came out, the serving looked rather small. But the flavor was ok, not stellar, but ok. My wife got a curry dish. It was too spicy for her - if we come again we'll know to shoot lower on the spicy scale. Our daughter, the big fan in the family, got the ginger beef kid's meal. She wouldn't eat it. What??? We came here for her!! Well, I had a bite of the beef, and I could understand why she wouldn't it eat. They might as well have named it ginger rocks. The beef was HARD!!! And the flavoring was really salty. It was almost like eating salt crystals on rice. Call me kid-centric, but based on the kid's meal, I wouldn't come back here again. read more

I love Thai food and the Southbay has a few places that are good, but we certainly need more. Blue Mango is good, the food is decent, but is not worth the price. I was with a party of 8 and we ordered a good amount of dishes, but the price per viand was most definitely not worth it. Maybe I'm a spoiled girl who goes to SoCal often and the generous servings from places like Coconut Bay has tainted my life, but I just remember spending a lot for very little food. Service on this particular day was severely lacking and we were over looked, remember we are a big party, a lot of times and had to actually wave down our server. This places isn't that big either, so I'm not sure why we were ignored. Sometimes the service & the price will linger on your mind much more than the food. My Blue Mango experience was just that, and when the cost & service leaves a bad taste, just okay food is not enough to cover that up. I've been to better, Jasmine Thai on Lundy is in my opinion better priced, better service, and great tasting food. I don't think I'll go back to Blue Mango. read more

Make sure you show up hungry because EVERYTHING is delicious! Kudos on having a veg menu in addition to regular menu-it makes it a favorite choice for my husband and I who rarely agree on a place where we both have options. We go at least a couple times each month. Tonight we had the misfortune of coming in when a very rude large party was trying to complain about having to pay the gratuity on their bill (a policy they clearly list at the entrance btw)...the staff handled the situation with grace and smiles-despite being yelled at--something I can't fathom having the audacity to do to anyone that way. Their calm during this storm was just a rreinforcement of why we come here. Thanks for being great Blue Mango! :) read more

I normally do not give negative reviews for any business. Being a store manager I know how detrimental bad reviews can be. But I feel compelled to write this review. The food was a C+ maybe a B. The service however is why I am writing the review. Customer service is in my opinion the most important thing for any restaurant. I have had mediocre food and gave restaurants good ratings. BUT when you combine bad service with an average meal you get a D-. It took them 15 minutes to even get to the table, 3.0 minutes to bring us our appetizer and so on. We ordered shrimp in one of our meals and they brought chicken. They happily took the plate back then brought back the same plate and added TWO yes two shrimp to the plate. They did not remake it just added the shrimp! REALLY? They DID NOT refill my drink, I even set mt glass on the edge of the table so they would notice, it didn't help.
