Cocktails were enjoyable and they provided edamame as an appetizer. All four of us enjoyed our meal, especially the king crab special entree! Another wonderful meal at Blue Marlin. The seafood is amazing. I had to take off a star for this meal though. We went to the outdoor area to finish our drinks after dinner and noticed a cat pooping right in front of a table. There were a couple servers out there at the time but no one seemed to care. I pointed it out to our waiter and his comment was , " that's Blue (the cats name)"..He wasn't at all concerned about the fact that he pooped in front of a table. We came here based on the great reviews but ended up very disappointed in the food. We ordered the shrimp dip, blue marlin salad, shrimp and grits and the Cortez soup. The shrimp dip was excellent. It was creamy with a bit of a cheese crust in the top. Well worth it. The salad was mixed baby greens with sliced strawberries and a vinaigrette glaze that was just the right amount of dressing. Then things went downhill. The soup and the shrimp and grits came out. The grits were over cooked and clumpy. The bacon topping was burnt and the sauce was incredibly salty. Incredibly salty... the Cortez soup tasted like Campbell's tomato soup with some sautéed vegetables and a few (and I mean a few) pieces of fish in it. I guess the chef must have been having an off day... it wasn't worth the $140 bill... read more

My last experience at Blue Marlin was disappointing to say the least. I made a reservations weeks in advance on the early side for 5:15. When we walked in, the hostess sat us at the small table directly next to the front door - by far the worst table in the restaurant. We spent our entire dinner talking over the other patrons walking in the door (letting in the blasting music from across the street) and interacting with the hostess, as well as the young wait staff who would congregate near the hostess stand and have personal conversations with each other. At one point, the girlfriend of a young man working there came in and they just chatted away while my companion and I tried to block everything out. We may as well have been in a Cracker Barrel or chilis for all of the commotion. Our food ranged from good to excellent but the place really struggled to package my leftover seafood stew... maybe they could invest in a couple of to go bowls? All in all, when you pay as much money as you do at blue marlin, you expect a fabulous experience from start to finish and we definitely didn't have that. It'll be a long while before I go back with so many other amazing restaurants in Bradenton and Sarasota. read more

My whole family loved their meal. -The house salad (Caesar) was fresh and the dressing was delicious. I loved the Blackened Fish Alfredo dinner-- it had so much flavor and the blacken grouper was juicy and well seasoned. My husband thought the burger was tasty too. The steak was top of the line and cooked to perfection. Cons: -They start you off with peas, rather than bread, which I was not a fan of. -The food is overpriced, but it was worth it. They serve canned sodas ($2 each) and you cannot get refills. For a fancier restaurant I thought it was strange to serve canned sodas. -The WORST part was the service. The workers were not friendly or personable. Our waitress was very rude. She rolled her eyes when my husband asked for tomatoes on his salad and she seemed annoyed with everything. read more

Blue Marlin was a recommendation made by a family friend on a recent trip to Bradenton. I was very pleased with the experience. First, though, parking was not easy. There's a note on the website that says if you can't find parking pull up to the door and someone will lead you to parking. Well, that didn't happen. I even tried calling to get some help but no answer. I dropped my party off and then did a few loops until I found somewhere to park. That is the one drawback I had. My party of six sat outside as I longed for the Florida heat. We had a nice location with a long bench seating and a view of their property. It was fine and the most interesting element was a large tabby cat that sprawled out napping nearby. No one else sat outside that night so we had the place to ourselves. Our waitress was great. She was fun, a bit sarcastic, very humorous, and all in all a great reprieve for the night. She was wonderful. I had the shrimp and grits and by far they were the best grits I had on my Florida trip. They were the right consistency, texture, and perfect balance of flavor. The portion size was good though my belly wanted more. I ordered ice cream for dessert and the ice cream was rather small but really plenty for one person. I really enjoyed my time at the Blue Marlin. I thought it was a great visit! read more

Really nice meal to close out our week-long visit to AMI. Cozy environment, friendly and helpful staff, lovingly prepared local seafood. I also blew my heart-healthy diet for dessert -- bourbon pecan pie and about half of my wife's key lime creme brulee (I hope my cardiologist isn't reading this). Just returned from a great vacation on Anna Maria Island! We had dinner at Blue Marlin one night, it was fantastic! (we are major foodies from NY) and love high end restaurants. Food was great!, our waiter was amazing! We also loved the ambiance, cute restaurant with outdoor bar & seating and live music. We also asked multiple locals and they all said go to the Blue Marin! I definitely recommend this restaurant and glad we went despite the negative reviews on here. Will absolutely be back the next time I visit the island! read more

This place had the complete package for us - delicious cocktails (finally a well done margarita that wasn't a sugar bomb!), uncommon Negroni (so good!), fine bourbon (EH Taylor, George T Stagg, and others off menu if you're lucky!), great wine selection and delicious fresh fresh seafood from just across the bay (AP Bell Fish Co in Cortez)...where we ate next door on plenty of afternoons at Star Fish Co (yum!), but the whole package includes excellent service and also now live music again - so happy to enjoy that again! I was really torn on how to rate this place. The short of it is . . . Food - Excellent Service - Very good to excellent Ambiance - Cute, fun . . . very nice Prices - overpriced. I could ramble on (as I usually do) to explain each and every aspect of the meal but suffice to say . . . the food was excellent. Between the 2 of us we had one salad as an appetizer, two dinner sized fish entrees (they offer 2 sizes), one extra side dish and 3 glasses of wine. The total ? Approx $115 before tip. I'm doing this from memory but the salad was about $12. The dinner sized fish entrees (which to me were just normal sized portions) were $29 each. The glasses of wine were $10 each (slightly smallish pours) and the side dish (cauliflower au gratin) was $5. I really liked the food but it struck me as expensive. I actually think that this place should be listed as $$$ (3 dollar signs). It would be hard to get out of there for less than $40 a person and that would be cutting corners in ordering. Five star experience from beginning to end! Beautiful interior -perfect combination of classic yet nautical and shabby- loved the vibe! When we arrived, they brought the kids goldfish crackers and pretty much catered to them in every way from there on! I basically never get this at fine dining restaurants, so I was super impressed. The food was great and the waiter was knowledgeable. I wouldn't say the good was perfect- some of it was amazing- the Caesar salad was randomly wonderful and the Thai snapper nugs were fabulous. The flavors in my entree were spot-on but the fish was overdone for my tastes and I think just an issue of how that particular fish was prepared. Delicious dinner with great outdoor seating and live music! While visiting Bradenton Beach we stopped by here to grab a drink at the outdoor bar and decided to make reservations to come back the next day for dinner. We ordered a summer peach salad to split between two people, and it was perfect! For our entrees I ordered the Grouper and Clam plate while my mom ordered the Cracker Grouper special. The Grouper and Clam plate was delicious and served with a tasty white wine sauce (also gluten free). The Cracker Grouper was a southern style dish and served with collard greens and cheesy grits. Although the collard greens didn't have the best seasoning, the rest of the dish was very tasty and extremely filling. Overall, it was a wonderful meal with a great atmosphere to match it. I highly recommend this restaurant for either dinner or just grabbing some drinks and a snack. read more
