The morning hustle and bustle is evident, but you can help yourself to steaming coffee and wake up in the brisk morning open air while you're waiting for a table, while you watch the ships being repaired across the yard. The food was very good - my girlfriend didn't care for the side potatoes as much as others we've had, but we both liked our entrees. We visited on a weekend for breakfast at about 0820. The establishment was small and crowded, but based on reviews we opted to wait. We were seated in the time we expected and given water and a menu. Our order was taken within 6-7 minutes. We watched as every table received food, many "to go" orders came in and successfully received food, and at least two tables seated after us also began enjoying their meal. Our water was refilled once while coffee refills were continually circulating. 45 minutes after being seated I told my wife we'd be leaving if we didn't have food at the one hour mark. Shortly after that, our waitress (with purse in hand) cheerfully welcomed another incoming table of locals and actually scooted into their table to socialize. She got up and left about two minutes later without a word of explanationto us. Earlier she had informed us she normally worked at another restaurant but was called in to help that morning. My wife asked a waitress if the waitress who left was coming back. She said she wasn't and that she would be serving us. My wife said we had been there for almost an hour and if she knew where our food was in the process. She was nice (why this is two vs one star) and immediately went to check. She came back and apologized it had been so long and we wound have "food in front of us" in 10 minutes. At that same time I noticed that another couple who came in at least 20 minutes after us got their food. Based on those issues we opted to leave. We thanked our new waitress for her courtesy and left her $5. Unfortunately, we have to conclude that this situation was based on being first time visitors and locals/regulars being prioritized (carry out and in house). That's business' choice and as a free market person I don't have a problem if that's their business model, however as a service to others who don't live in Port Townsend (we live in Port Ludlow, so still "local") and read rave reviews it's fair to be aware that you'll possibly experience the same "prioritization" if they are busy and staff decides to sleep in necessitating pinch hitters. read more

The servers are on their game in spite of busy weekends and weekday rushes. The food is served promptly (I got mine in under ten minutes) and hot. The desire is so Port Townsend - eclectic and funky, featuring posters from the Wooden Boat Fests on the walls. The owner knows her stuff and requires the best of her team while being a true leader herself. It's CASH ONLY so please don't forget it. This is one of my favorite spots. It's a little hole in the wall right there in the boat yard. Open until 2. I've tried many of their breakfast and lunch dishes but my fav is their Biscuits and gravy. I've never once received a bad meal here and they have decent coffee. So many places have such bad coffee!! There are some of the staff that of been there for years and I always love going in there every time and seeing their smiling faces. The interior is pretty eclectic and that's part of it's charm. They have a small kitchen but boy do they make the most of it. It is cash only be prepared for that. Sometimes depending on when you get there especially on the weekend there can be a wait so if you're going to expect to be seated right away on a Saturday or Sunday morning that some wishful thinking. When you look at this place from the outside you couldn't imagine why the weight could be so long. There is limited seating inside but it's so worth the wait. read more

This unassuming quanset hut is the domain of a quaint little Cafe called Blue Moose. The mood here is never blue and you won't see a moose but only once in a blue moose will you have a breakfast as good as this. Service crisp and diner like, the decor in eclectic kitchen style featuring regional art and the menus is extensive. Among the many thing on it there is an item called a Scooter. I had no idea but was game so I chose the Scooter. A scooter is a crisped flower Tortilla with various ingredients; scrambled eggs with beans or potatoes all kinds of other stuff. Seven or eight choices. The one I chose had beans, mushrooms, peppers and topped with salsa and sour cream. The folded tortilla was delicately crisp, the salsa carefully diced, the beans were divine and the peppers were just the right temperature to make this an over the top selection. Warning; it's a small cafe so time your self and if you have to wait they will serve you coffee for your trouble. Also cash only so stop at an ATM before hand. read more

The only drawback is that we had to wait for a little bit and it was crowded. But the food was great, served hot and a good portion size. We will stop there again when we are in the area. Way overrated... We came here due to the raving reviews. Yes, it was a very busy Sunday morning. But I really don't think that excuses the terrible service. Waiting was expected, but our food took closer to half an hour, and there's only two of us. I wouldn't recommend coming here on a weekend, we couldn't hear each other talk 2 feet apart from each other. The corn beef hash was luke warm and salty. My omelet was extremely salty. Might have been due to the bacon, but I had to drink water after every single bite. The toast was also cold as well. Prices were moderate ($9-15 per dish), but we definitely wouldn't come here again. I also wish the waitresses would be more conscious of hygiene, only because a few had extremely long hair that was not contained at all. We waited 15 minutes to get our bill before finally deciding to go up front. I think it may have been a different experience coming on a weekday, but our time was extremely below average. Perfect breakfast place with lots of selection and great food. Dishes are generous. Have been here several times- now during COVID-19 they are seating outside as well as in and being very mindful. I have had very good huevos rancheros here. This time I ordered Ode to Ina which had a polenta base and fried eggs with a chipotle sauce. It was fantastic! Having a go to spot is so important for me, especially for breakfast. My boyfriend and I were visiting port Townsend to see his brother, who happened to work in the ship yard this amazing cafe is located in. I tried the French toast, which is made with an amazing sourdough bread. And homemade pecan cinnamon butter, seriously my mouth is drooling thinking about it again. We also tried the t-Rex scrambler? I think that's what it was called, among many other items on the menu, and everything was delicious. The cafe is small, but I serve in a small cafe as well so I understand that type of atmosphere, but if you get there early enough, you will get right in and coffee is from a local brew. I believe it's sunrise coffee, and it's very delicious. We went every day we were in port Townsend and I dream about going back very soon. read more

First - CASH ONLY. No ATM but there's a Safeway right across the street. This is neither a pro nor a con for me, just know to plan ahead. They have a distinct sign out front, very clear. Parking is certainly a little difficult, but if you can bike or walk, it's not an issue whatsoever. I'm from out of town and came here for my birthday breakfast during a PT vacation weekend. Coincidentally, it was also the birthday of one of the cooks, Mr. Sunshine (happy birthday, dude)! They definitely went all out for decorating dirt him and the staff were all wearing birthday hats. It was a nice surprise and I felt it demonstrated how much they care about their staff. It was hella busy, but service was efficient and very friendly. They have a coffee area, along with water, to which you can help yourself while you wait. The coffee is a good roast, I was impressed. Food is solid. I chose biscuits and gravy with an egg over easy, manfriend got the Mr. Sunshine breakfast in honor of the man of the hour. Cinnamon roll French toast with eggs and bacon. Delightful. Everyone there was happy, moving quickly, respectful of each other and customers and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Best cup of coffee I have had in two weeks in Seattle!! Loved the atmosphere but was a little claustrophobic in the back room. Friendly staff that were the owners perhaps? Some huge plates of food nearby. Everything bagel sandwich was filling and hot. The best pancake I have had in a long time. Fluffy pancake dusted with powdered sugar could stand alone without syrup. Perhaps the best short order breakfast spot my travels have run across in years. Small harborside dive among the docks with abundant, freshly prepared platters. Portions are huge and the service is snappy. I sampled a Saturday morning special scramble with chicken Florentine sausage. I especially liked that the peppers, onions and mushrooms were nicely sautéed and that there was a good amount of sharp white cheese distributed throughout (as opposed to the glop of processed cheddar that so many places slap on top). This was served with a fruit cup of fresh melon, plum and banana slices and a large, fluffy biscuit. The biscuits were excellent and my husband wolfed down a plate of them topped with freshly prepared sausage and gravy. As we were sitting on one of four counter stools in the tiny place, I had a clear view to the five-person team working to serve the large crowd of hungry folks. Everything was prepared fresh to order in a manner that is practically a dying art. Got to see the wide variety of plates - all scrumptious looking - and as all was visible including the dishwasher, can vouch that the place is clean. There is an al fresco space as well. Wow, this place! Even if the food were crap, I'd still love it. Such a delightful mix of working class folks, hippies (real ones, not the yoga pants whole foods variety), and working class hippies, waitresses with hand-poked tattoos, tables that wobbled a little, and a mixed collection of coffee mugs. And the food? Good lord, the food. I usually pass on an omelet, but the Mexican omelet sounded so delicious and savory what with its beans and cilantro sauce, sour cream and avocado, a side of home fries and sourdough toast. It was delicious and savory and perfect and generously portioned and then some. Just go. (Seattle has nothing on this place for breakfast.
