If you suffer from food allergies do not eat at this place. Taste of mostly foods were ok, standard for American, Asian/Chinese Style Buffet (I mean simple and easy to eat for everyone) but some foods were better/more flavorful than I expected. Hot food looks fresh and were refilled all the time. (When I was there) Clean and organized spacious dining room at convenient location. Service was so so. Overall was acceptable, I paid for dinner about $17 per person. p.s. I am sure most people who want to go to buffet that because they would like to enjoy many kinds of food unlimited in one place (from appetizer, entree, to dessert) without hurting your wallet. After waiting in a line going out the door, came out to 92$ absolutely not worth it and the blatant disregard for me saying that they were scamming me. This was the worst Chinese buffet I've ever been to, and we go to Chinese buffets a lot. The food was not warm and just didn't taste right. It didn't even look good. It was dry and looked like it had been sitting out for a long time. To make things even worse, the guy at the pho station discriminated against us because we didn't speak to him in Spanish like everyone else did. He made the pho of the people after us before he made ours, even though we ordered first! And they only had 1 ice cream scoop for all of the ice cream, and it was sitting in disgusting water. For the price and the amount of food, you really can't beat Blue Pearl. Conveniently located in downtown Silver Spring, I find myself gravitating to Blue Pearl after an afternoon of shopping. If you have any trouble finding it, look for Kung Fu Tea and take the escalator down from there. Most everything is delicious! I also love to take food to go when I don't have time to dine-in. My favorite thing to order to go are the red bean and mochi with sesame balls. There not labeled at Blue Pearl, but I'm Filipino cuisine we call it buchi. So delicious! And I can fill up a to go container and it will cost roughly $5. Keep in mind that the weighing price for taking seafood to go is slightly higher than the other food. read more

For typical chinese buffet this place is a standard spot at downtown silver spring mall. They have a lot of selection for lunch and dinner but we did try lunch time. The price is decent for lunch buffet, but food quality and taste is not bad but can make some improvement in seasoning my personal opinion. The silverware is not wrap and just place on top of a napkin but not a big deal. Blue Pearl Buffet & Grill is a prime example of quantity over quality. The food isn't that great, but it's economical - $15 for a weekend dinner and all you can eat (soda included) is a good deal to me. It's also great for groups. The "Happy Birthday" song was played multiple times over the speakers, so if you want to host a birthday party, Blue Pearl Buffet is a popular option. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken care of promptly. Then it was off to the AYCE extravaganza. Most of the food is not labeled, but the questionable items are, so that's good. Decent fried rice, lo mein, and chow mein. Egg drop soup was oily and bland. The soup station also has a set-up that's difficult to serve the soup without spilling it. Macaroni and cheese was watery and bland. Other American food that they served but I didn't try: fried chicken, chicken skewer, chicken nuggets (lots of chicken options), mashed potatoes, french fries, garlic bread, cheese pizza. They didn't have a lot of vegetable selections other than what was at their basic salad bar and then whatever was thrown into the stir-fry dishes. I recall corn. They had several seafood options: clams, big mussels, crab, shrimp, crayfish, and some steamed. I liked the shrimp in cream sauce. I think they do their fried food pretty well; they had fried squid, fried shrimp, and fried fish to choose from. There was also a stuffed crab offering which is served in a deceivingly large crab shell. It's mostly filled with imitation crab, celery, and lots of mayo. Standard buffet sushi selection (this isn't Sushi On in Fairfax), but no complaints. They have a noodle bar station where you can pick and choose your ingredients or select a bowl off the menu board, all made to order. This is probably the best value and it's a generous serving size. I recommend starting with this. I foolishly decided to go here last, and while waiting in line, I suddenly felt very full and couldn't bring myself to order the giant bowl. Next time. I was surprised at how much I liked their desserts. They had a vanilla cake with chocolate mousse icing, jello, cupcakes, cookies, chocolate and vanilla pudding, roll cake, and the Chinese doughnuts. Although the Chinese doughnut wasn't fresh, I enjoyed the cakes that I chose. They also have an ice cream machine (only serves vanilla) but they had no bowls, no cones, and no toppings. The ice cream was definitely a watered down version - not very vanilla-y - and they had small sample-size plastic cups to put your ice cream in, but really, after a big buffet meal, it's all you need. I wish they had more fruit selection. Every time I went up to get more food, my plates were cleared by the time I returned. They even refilled my drink and gave us extra napkins without prompting. My husband and I went there to try the place because we were really craving some asian food. First off I didn't like the fact that the staff were standing in front of us and were always looking at us. It made us uncomfortable we couldn't even eat peacefully and enjoy our meal. When I was full I grab some fruits as desert but my husband wasn't done eating and they brought the bill and their biscuit like we were done. I really didn't appreciate that because they were just standing there like it was only us in the whole restaurant. I regretted choosing that sit and when we were done and about to leave, the server directly came and ask for tips. My husband was pissed because tips is for when you are satisfy about the service the place or the food but none of those were satisfying, the food was pretty oily, dry and not even seasoned (specially the salt was missing in most of the things we ate), we didn't even stay 30minutes. The manager also made sure to greet us all. The bathrooms need to be checked more frequently. There was urine on the seats and floor and bunches of toilet paper on the ground. I swear I wrote this review! There's definitely something nefarious afoot!!! Either way the lines are ridiculously long and the food is just barley palatable. I paid over 100 for 7 of my friends and family and I can honestly say they should have given me 52.67 back. The crabs were fried beyond belief (who in the world fries crabs) and the pho took an eternity to cook. The staff is truly doing there best, but on a Sunday afternoon this place is just filthy. Like food on the floors and grease everywhere. I don't particularly like buffets, but everyone wanted the pearl and honestly 3/ 7 enjoyed there food. I think my palate is just a little more elevated. Visited this location on 08/26/23 around 4pm-ish. it was very spacious, enough tables and chairs to go around, etc. Food was good, not spectacular but enough to get you full for a good amount of hours. Service was okay, very different compared to other buffets I went to. We weren't seated, which was fine because my family and I prefer to select our own tables instead of one being appointed to us. Here's the part where I didn't like the service. The people who pick up your finished plates were roaming my table like vultures. Forcing my family and I to bring us drinks and what not. If that's their job, then I personally do not like that. I would've agreed to them to bring us our drink but they were very aggressive and forcing, so I had to put my foot down so they'd leave us alone for awhile. And they've been aggressive since the minute we stepped in. And I'm sure helping customers out was a way to earn their tip which I understand but being very hostile isn't the way to go. They picked up our finished plates, which was very nice and I was appreciative about that. And as it was time to go, I was getting ready to leave a tip ( though they were very hostile in the beginning, they were decent near the end) they legit "forced" me to leave them a tip. And it wasn't one "waiter" , it was two! Who both point to the table and said, leave a tip. Like I mentioned because, I was going to leave a tip. I've been meaning to check this out since I noticed it on a previous trip to DTSS, and it was a night when my appetite wasn't craving anything in particular. It's a U-shaped space in the basement of Ellsworth Place, wrapped around the down escalator. There are quite a few things to like compared to other Asian buffets, and very few misses. Top of the list has to be the cordial service. I got the senior discount without having to ask, my beverage was refilled as soon as I got halfway down, and when I was fumbling with a spoon to debone the whole grilled mackerel, my server showed up and offered me a knife. The next big item was the fact that none of the seafood was overcooked. The only item that was way too well done was the pork rib - I could have used a hacksaw. Crayfish, baby clams, salmon, all quite good. The have several items you won't see on most such places. Tucked away near the ice cream machine are edamame, pickled daikon radish, szechuan cabbage, and decent (I'm a fan of Korean food and know what I like) kimchee. The noodle soup station was open, offering several options with your choice of additions to Vietnamese and Chinese broth - see photo. The stuffed crab was a bit strange, with vegetables and what tasted like a bit of cheese, but fairly tasty. They had a few buffet grade sushi rolls, no nigiri. The crispy duck had tender meat and crunchy skin, but a layer of fat in between. For dessert, some nice ripe fruit and one of my favorites, bite size coconut macaroons. There were more tasty looking baked goods, but I was out of stomach space. Hidden gem doesn't quite fit - zircon maybe? But it's a step up from most such buffets and not bad to fill up after a hard day's shopping or build a base for a night of bar hopping. We came here Saturday about 5pm. The cost per person was about $14 with beverage included. It was pretty full, but at least we did not have to wait in line. The buffet includes the regular Chinese selection, such as lo mein, sweet/sour chicken, fried rice, sushi, etc. They also have a small section of American food such as chicken nuggets, pizza, fries, etc. A soup section was also included which lets you pick out anything you want to add to your soup. Of course dessert and salad was included. Overall, the food was good, they were putting out hot, fresh food out every couple minutes and had enough seats for everyone coming in. Meh. It's ok. Hadn't been here in several years and stopped in Friday night before a concert at the Fillmore because we knew we could get in and out quickly. First clue should have been that the price seems to not have changed from our last visit years ago. The offerings and quality on the buffet are meh. Ok, not great. Pretty much standard fair. What's in the pepper shaker scares me. I saw on TV news program a long time ago that some Chinese companies uses dirt to emulate pepper among their exports. The Blue Pearl Buffet & Grill (Blue Pearl) may be one of those accepting this import. When I saw the pepper shaker there the content looked so finely ground it was like no other pepper from other restaurants I've experienced. I shook a little "pepper" onto my hand and tasted it. The powder had no taste at all. So I asked my wife to try it for herself, since she has finer-tuned taste buds than I. I then asked if she tasted anything and she said "no", so I advised her to not use the stuff on her food. Other than that, the food is mediocre overall. I understand that cooking for a large mass and a ready-to-seve menu isn't catering to individual taste, thus a middle-ground, thus mediocre, is the status quo, but that middle ground can have a more tastier appeal. Even a middle ground have a range. The land animal meats are well-cooked and soaking in its grease to maintain "moisture", the sea and fresh water meats are consumed quickly so they are replaced often enough to be fresh, and the variety of foul (chicken) preparations is about the same. Today I went here to eat lunch with my boyfriend, we paid 29$ for the both of us, and one of the male waiters who served us drinks was very kind to us. As we are getting up to leave, another waitress who has NOT been serving us runs up to us and starts harassing my boyfriend for a tip. "Where's your money for the tip? Do you have cash? Did you pay with cash or card? Take your receipt out." My boyfriend takes his receipt out and she forces him to write in a tip on the receipt. Now, I don't have issues tipping, I just think it's very rude to ask (let alone INSISIT) for a tip. I will NOT be back to this place and I don't think you should either. read more

Came here with another friend for lunch. I think if you had the time for a long lunch, this wouldn't be a bad place. You definitely get what you pay for. In terms of buffets, I will try to evaluate to see if you can eat your moneys worth. In terms of this place, it would be hard to do so. You would have to eat TONS of clams and fried shrimp. The noodle bar is not bad. Takes about 5-10 min to cook whatever you want. Funny thing is that I think the broth is more for pho than wonton noodles. I assume they use the same broth for whatever noodles you want. The desserts are ok. The egg tarts are edible. Definitely dry and not straight from the oven fresh. Service was fine.
