2 of us were there this past week for dinner. The food was nothing special at all. Most of the offerings were fried - Not impressed with that. Nothing was hot - luke warm at best. They also no longer valadate parking which is a turn off. Total came to $25 for two of us plus parking. We have no intention of returning. When i picked up my wife from work, we decided to try as this one is very close to her work place. As a chinese buffet place, this one is not too shabby. many selections. we liked bbq ribs, pho soups, black bean clams most. others are just okay. not a fan of sushi, but it was made cheap just like any sushi bar in america. crab legs are a little salty. hot bar is okay. didn't try cold bar. service is good in general. better for lunch, otherwise have to do some aerobic afterwards. read more

Yep, pretty mediocre place. This buffet is almost retro now, obviously a very old design and set of dishes - a few types of sushi but no constantly active sushi bar, pudding and jello and stale-ish cakes for desert, and mostly greasy, goopy take-out style Chinese dishes. It's not as big, clean, or satisfying as the newer buffets. Some of the dishes were tasty and somewhat authentic - shrimp dim sum dumplings, roast duck, a nice Japanese style pickled radish salad, etc. They also had frog legs and a couple of other more uncommon dishes that I didn't try. The big problem though is not the selection or the decor but the quality. It's just mediocre. The fried food especially is just bland and greasy. The beef and vegetables/chicken and brocolli were good. But not much else. Most food seemed dried out. Surprisingly the sushi was actually tasty - they had tilapia, tuna, and eel nigiri and a couple of tasty rolls. I even tend to like the more retro buffets, because they remind me of the ones I went to as a kid, before we had those giant "palace" Teppanyaki places everywhere. But this one just doesn't cut it. Ah, the all you can eat buffet. Truly a staple in American culture. Yesterday I was looking around silver spring and I stumbled upon blue pearl by accident. I entered, took a gander at the fare and was pleased with what I saw. I arrived today at a 2:45 pm during the lunch hours; it's 9.90 with tax until 4 then it's about 13 dollars. The cashier was rude, nothing like the cashier I had talked to the night before whom was delightful. I grabbed a plate and had some cold wine chicken, it was really good even though it was cold, but had a bit too much salt for me. After I found they had roasted chicken which I'm a big fan of, I nabbed almost all of the chicken breasts (my favorite part) and when I finished my plate I went back to find it was completely replenished to my delight. I continued my delicious quest to encounter sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, chicken skewers, general tsaos chicken; I like my chicken. All of those were more than mediocre about a rating of 6 of 10, but I continued with the chicken breast. After eating my entrees I found that they had sweet potatoes, which are a rare find in buffets; I enjoyed that surprise. Now the desserts are really lacking in this establishment. I sampled a bit of everything and most of the pastries had a taste of freezer burn. One of the Boston cream filled pastries was spoiled (I didn't even know that can happen). Was disappointed at the self serve ice cream was terrible. This place has the worst desserts ever, I was glad that they had actual roasted chicken but other than that this was a mediocre experience. The staff was horrible, filled my water once, and waited for me to leave, every time I tried talking to one of the servers I was either ignored or given a look of disgust when I asked for more water. The Blue Pearl was one of the best eating places I have ever been to. I can't believe the awesomeness of this place, it is a great deal, and all you can eat. I had two whole plates of food and they didn't even say anything. They have all kinds of food to choose from, pizza, chicken, rice, soup, macaroni and cheese, and more. They also have a big dessert section. Rice with chocolate and free ice cream that came out of a machine! You can choose chocolate or vanilla or you can combine them in a swirl. You can put your ice cream in a cup or a cone. They even have this green pudding by the sushi, you just can't eat a lot at one time because it will burn your mouth. The service was impeccable. As soon as I got there they ask me what drink I wanted, I asked for water but later I found out I could have asked for coke or tea at no extra charge. When I finished a plate of food they would take the dirty plate away, I swear I felt like a king. About half way through my lunch a lot of asians came in. Some of them sat with me and told me they got off a tour bus, I had a good time talking with them and I learned a lot. At the end of my meal I got a free fortune cookie, it even had lottery numbers on the back. Not kidding around I won 5 dollars off those numbers! I wish Arkansas had a place like this. I went to blue pearl buffet in silver spring last night. The price for dinner buffet everyday is $11.95 and for lunch buffet is $8.95. but that price includes the drink as well. They feature it in their front desk "All you can eat and drink". oh yes and unlike other chinese buffet where you pay after the meal here you have to pay upfront before being seated. The overall nos of items was good and there was good selection of crab, mussells, prawn. their salad bar was also good with both veggies and fruits. the watermelon portions were huge while I have been to other chinese buffet this one seemed to feature good points of chines buffet with a large number of items and at the same time giving good portions of each. They are located in the lower level of the mall in silver spring very close to the metro. While entering they had advertused free icecream I think they should advertise about the drink being included. the place was very crowded on a sunday evening and probably might have to wait until seated. But if you are a seafood fan you will not be disappointed.!! read more

It's hard for me to give a place one star. Mainly b/c I judge a place for what it is and not on what I think it should be. I never compare a place to one of higher quality. It's like trying to compare a cube steak to prime rib. Obviously the cube steak wouldn't hold up, but that doesn't mean the cube steak wasn't good for what it was. I was actually having a pretty good meal at blue pearl, it's your typical "Chinese" buffet where very little is authentic. You can always spot these places b/c there is always pizza, mac and cheese, and corn on the cob for some reason. They had a decent hot pot bar and average sushi for a place that has a buffet. I know what you are saying where is the bad. Well the bad came at the end of meal when I looked up and saw two roaches scattering across the table of some other patrons. This just ruined it. I am no fool and had worked in a restaurant earlier in my days and know that where there's that amount of food and water there is going to be pests. I also have seen the lengths restaurants go to keep this under control with the sprayings and whatnot. This place is obviously not taking these precautions. If they clean up their act then maybe I would give it another shot or maybe not. read more

This establishment is a typical Chinese/American mixed cuisine buffet that leaves the patron wanting more (in a bad way). During my visit at the peak of the dinner rush, I was disappointed to find mediocre food hardening under heat lamps en mass. One would think that more of an effort would be made to keep the available food fresh. Overall, the only perk to dining here is that you can consume a large quantity of bland food for $11.45. That is if the MSG soaked sauce and pushy, hovering wait staff doesn't make one want to cut their visit short before they receive any of the value in their $11.45 spent. read more

My girlfriend dragged me to this place, kicking and screaming. An all you can eat Chinese Buffet. I've always hated these sorts of places. But this one is great. Everything is as fresh as can be, with virtually every dish as good as one would find in an excellent Chinese restaurant! Excellent price too. The experience I had today was 100% unacceptable. The food selection wasn't that great. They sell watered down syrup that contains Phosphoric Acid as iced tea and the flavor shows it (NOT A COMPLIMENT). The last straw with them was when I went back to the buffet to get a second helping of food AND THEY THREW EVERYTHING OUT at my table (EXCEPT THEIR TIP). The thing they threw out was a FOSRENOL TABLET and TWO SENSIPAR TABLETS. I have to have those medications while I ate. Those tablets cost $35.00 each. I ended up taking my tip back and walking out. I never will eat there again. If the server staff think they can do whatever they want without care for the needs of their customers. If they want to serve poor quality food and beverage. If the owners of the restaurant can just sit there and say sorry like it is NO BIG DEAL. Then they don't deserve my business. BLUE PEARL Buffet in Silver Spring is one of the most excellent buffet restaurants in the whole Metro Washington DC area, because of the following reasons: 1. CHEAP & VERY AFFORDABLE. We as a familty regularly go to buffet restaurants every weekends here in Metro Washington DC and so far, Blue Pearl could easily get a grade of 90 to 95% in a scale of 100. Their pricing is very reasonable on a food selection of 100 or more dishes. especially if you there on a weekday schedule, their rate, is so cheap at 8 dollars. 2. CLEAN AND TIDY is one of the hallmark of this nice restaurant. With an Asian setting decor and some western and Hispanic touch, the place is so amiable, and the ambience is just excellent, notwithstanding the presence of many kids tagged along by their parents, but that is how a buffet restaurant should be, so be patient with kids, because you were once kids too. 3. VARIED AND DIVERSE and they cater to the great American public, meaning, there is whites, blacks, gray, blue, green yellow, red, and all the rainbow colors of people in skin, in politics, in sexuality, in attitude, in character. This is Silver Spring, MD, and one of the most diverse and immigrant-embracing states of the country. So, enjoy the diversity and leave your prejudices in your homes or apartments. 4. ACCESSIBLE by foot, car. metro train, bike, skate board, etc. If you take the Metro, the red line Silver Spring station is only 3 blocks aways. 5. Ok, what's with all the low star reviews? Even 1-star reviewers here found stuff they liked. This is a buffet with dozens of choices. Many are terrific. Pineapple shrimp (only on weekends) is a real favorite. They have skewered beef and chicken, decent sushi (sometimes truly excellent), nice crisp sauteed green beans, really tasty mushrooms, garlic bread, fruits (lychee, oranges, limes etc.). Plus dozens of standard and exotic choices. And American food, too, including pizza and chicken nuggets. I am not terribly impressed with the Pho. Overall, though, the food is really nice. Not everything is for me, but I can always find lots of great choices. I have been there many times with groups of family and friends and no one has been disappointed. Also, no one has felt sick later, as sometimes happens in these types of places. Blue Pearl is the one we tell people about when they take us to a buffet that doesn't quite make the grade.
