LOOK ELSEWHERE From my encounter with the older woman working 5/3/21 @11 am VERY RUDE AND UNWORTHY OF YOUR BUSINESS. I'm not sure rude is even the right word- just straight up mean. Go elsewhere and keep your sanity trying to deal with the poor attitude of this staff member. We had a previously good experience there with a younger gentleman who helped us, and thought we'd return with similar service. Not even close. Food was good, they even offered us curbside the first time and were very kind and appreciative of our business, but not this go around- in fact I was told no and that I can come inside by the rude staffer. We are a larger family with several small children who usually dish out $100/ order and love to support our fellow business owners. Will not be returning to this place. Will not recommend to anyone. There are plenty of great businesses in the area who are kind and will genuinely appreciate your business. read more

Good spot for some quick breakfast, nothing crazy but good. I ordered a stack of pancakes which had a little too much butter and a side of crispy baco which was cooked great. This place is adorable. I thought it was so cute I took pictures. They have a very big space there & a varied menu to boot. Good stuff. I wish it were closer to Boston so i could go more often. After a sprint along the Cliff Walk and back, and another hike to the car, the boy and I were ready for a meal. Not just dinner mind you; A MEAL. And that is exactly what we got when we entered this awesome throw back of a place. The decor is updated 1950's and there are amusing "proverbs" around the indented ceiling. Such as 'Thou shall tip thy waitress generously' and 'All shall be allowed to eat breakfast at any hour of the day'. I mentioned to the boy about half way through our appetizer "I can hear the music, but I can also hear what you are saying, I love that!" and I truly do; I don't go to a restaurant to listen to music, shocking I know. The booth that we were seated was huge (could have easily sat four more people and still have been comfy) and our waitress was a perky little thing that has a very promising career if she keeps up the good work. We ordered garbage fries (waffle cut fries with melted cheese, chili, and sour cream) with the sour cream and the chili on the side. When we were putting this order in I asked if it would be alright to have both on the side and this little chickadee, with out skipping a beat, said "this is a diner, you can have everything on the side if you want". Awesome. I ordered the crab cakes Eggs Benedict (which is exactly what it sounds like; take away the Canadian bacon and slap on a crab cake) a soda water with lime and Boston creme pie. The boy got the whole sha-bang; a garlic burger, a bowl of chicken noodle soup, and a mocha milkshake. The soup was 100% homemade; I could just tell by looking at it and the satisfied face of my handsome companion. That is a great thing that is becoming more and more rare, a restaurant that actually makes their side orders. Plus right there, I say anyway. I would have liked it if the crab cakes on my entree were crunchy, but hey, they were in between a pouched egg and a fresh tomato; neither of those are crunch keepers. As for our waitress herself, she did a great job. She was witty and answered all of our questions without hesitation, AND, (here is the part that I marveled at on the way home) she totally avoided the full mouth syndrome! I know you know what I am talking about. You get your food and start to eat when two to three bites in the waitress materializes out of thin air and asks you how everything is just milliseconds after you put another bite in your mouth forcing you to do the 'It's yummy, thanks" head nod, or the "MMM, Good" thumbs up. Gestures that do not naturally make an appearance in your vernacular. This girl, it never happened; not even once. That and we never had to wait for her, she just knew when she was needed and faded to the background when not. Like I said earlier, she has a promising career if she keeps it up. In the end I gave her a huge tip, my boy was rather surprised by how big, but hey she did good, and the food was great. The food came quickly after ordering and was surprisingly hot. We had an omelette and waffle. The potato omelette was quirky and good but it had a little more garlic than I personally care for. Sorry I can't give this place zero stars. Their web site said they USED COVID safe practices and that the servers wore masks, but they did not. We were seated near another coup, but after taking our order more people were seated next to us even though 2/3 of the restaurant was empty. We asked our waitress if we could move to a more socially distanced table before our food was served , she very gruffly told us no. We felt uncomfortable and decided to leave on the way out I offered to pay for our coffee, the server said no and very rudely said "leave and don't ever come back". We absolutely will not. read more

Dinner late Saturday night, just needed something simple and did not want to go to chain and or Fast food joint. Young waiter was very patient and attentive. I love homemade Hash, well their crows nest with poached eggs was fantastic and home fries were best I can remember having. My wife had the sliders and was very happy. I haven't been to the Blue plate Diner in a few years, today I decided to venture out and take a ride with my 11 year old son. we haven't been here since he was about 4. I can not begin to explain how uncomfortable the waitress made me feel from the start. She was so unpleasant, and had such an attitude over the simplest modifications that I was asking for. (peppers and onions) instead of pico. My son ordered bacon and my cousin had ordered bacon as well. One plate came with ham. (Not a big deal, anywhere else you just let them know and they bring it right out) They both ordered the same breakfast meal. I had asked another waitress about the bacon and if she could just check on it. I seen her ask my waitress and heard her say "He has bacon on his plate". She came over to the table and I asked about the bacon once more, because it was already 15 minutes later. She responded with he has bacon on his plate, she ordered ham.. When I clarified that we didn't order "ham", she was so rude and said that is what she wrote down and it said "ham". It wasn't even a big deal, we just wanted the bacon we had ordered and if there was a mistake, it was okay... We just wanted the bacon! Her attitude and the way that she treated us was so discouraging. I am sitting in my car 25 minutes later in the Blue Plate Diner parking lot looking for a contact for Ted K, who is the president/owner of this company. Never have I been Treated or talked to like this from anyone. I am a nurse, I have seen so many different personalities and different ways of approaching people both negative and positive, nothing compares to my experience here. I am in awe. On top of all of this, "said waitress" is apparently the MANAGER. She completely disregarded the bacon we ordered. We never got it and she had no intention of ever bringing it out. I've eaten here a few times, though never for breakfast, which seems to be where the better reviews come from. Service wasn't bad, but it did not seem busy enough for the amount of time it took our server to swing back by our table. While I appreciate that she thought it would be nice to bring my toddler's food out first, we would normally not ask for that, but she did not ask us first. The result was our fighting with the child while trying to eat our own meals - slightly less enjoyable, but a minor issue. I have found each dish I have ordered to be just OK. The carbonara I had on our last trip had ham and bacon. I love pig, but even I found this to be over kill. The pieces of bacon were huge, as if no one had taken the care to chop it before putting it in the dish. Plus, it wasn't crisp little pieces of bacon, so it added little texture to the dish, and what it did add wasn't all that pleasant. read more

We enjoyed our experience and food at the Blue Plate Diner. I am a vegetarian and was able to leave full and satisfied. I ordered a vege burger sweet potato fries side salad and tomato soup. My husband ordered a veggie wrap. side salad and he also had tomato soup. We both enjoyed the tomato soup with real pieces of tomato. It was very flavorful. The waitress was attentive and quick she even provided information regarding the vege burger I wanted to order to my satisfaction prior to ordering. The diner reminded us of a Happy Day's Diner of the 50's only Fonzie was not there.The Diner was clean as well as the bathrooms. I plan to visit again the next time we vacation in Rhode Island. I went with a group of girlfriends. One of them ordered chicken noodle soup. When it came to the table it didn't look like chicken noodle soup. It look more like beef noodle. When we asked the waitress about it, she questioned the chef and he assured us it was chicken noodle.Upon looking more closely at the meat in the soup,it was definitely beef not chicken! My friend actually took a piece of the meat to a butcher the next day who confirmed it in fact, was beef.!! Moral of the story is that you can't be sure what you are eating there! read more

Went in today around 1:30 pm with my husband for late lunch. I ordered the blackened chicken salad and husband crows nest. As I was eating my salad, a bit down on something hard and pulled it out of my mouth and it was a metal wire. Needless to say I couldn't finish my meal. Told the server (older woman in pink sweatshirt, long brown hair) and she took it away and asked if I wanted something else. I said no and told her I was freaked out about it (I have anxiety). She didn't seem to care, didn't really say anything, etc. she came back with the check--minus my dish but still charged me for my soda that I didn't drink. My husband asked if there was a manager we could speak to, she said no management was there and walked away with our card & bill to charge us out. No apologies no amount of concern, nothing. Upon us leaving my husband asked her when a manager would be there and she (with almost attitude) said "tomorrow". I then told her that it's upsetting there was metal wire in my food and is dangerous had I accidentally swallowed that (I was trying not to tear up--I do that when upset) and she just shrugged her shoulders at me. We will NEVER be back over this encounter and I am going to call tomorrow to speak to the owner or manager. I understand mistakes happen but it was handled poorly. read more

Excellent service. Very timely and friendly staff. We ordered the turkey dinner, open-faced turkey sandwich, a burger and a club sandwich. The menu neglected to state there was sausage in their homemade stuffing and when I asked for cranberry sauce, we got a surprise two dollar charge for a couple ounces of cranberry jelly! I have been there a couple of times and it wasn't horrible. Today, however, it was pretty bad. First the positives--my waitress Gayle was very good. That's it for the positives. I went for breakfast and didn't have a lot of time, so I ordered oatmeal, and dry wheat toast. I asked for some milk and maple syrup on the side for the oatmeal. The order was taking longer than it should for such a basic order, and when Gayle came by she said that they didn't read the slip and buttered my toast, but it should be out soon. I heard her go back to get my order and apparently they messed up on the toast again, as I heard her say "Is this wheat toast? It's supposed to be dry WHEAT toast." But eventually my food came out. Not surprisingly, the oatmeal was somewhat congealed and wasn't as hot as it should have been, since it was done before the toast. As for the toast, the bread tasted old, it was damp, and barely toasted. Gayle forgot the syrup and when I reminded her, she brought it immediately. But it was it clearly wasn't maple syrup, just flavored corn syrup. One would think that a diner would have pure maple syrup, but I guess not. Needless to say, I didn't finish the meal. For a diner to screw up such an easy breakfast order is pretty telling. So I won't be returning. Oh, and the place was absolutely freezing. Turn up the heat, people! read more

We went here after lunch hour on a Sunday. The food was mmmm...okay! I'm not from RI, true southerner here and I was not impressed with the breakfast. My toast was burnt, my pancakes were so rubbery, and my home fries were way too salty. I was steered to this place by locals and other military families who have dined here. My waiter was fabulous! He was attentive and brought our food out in a timely manner. I will give this place another try and go for dinner hour and order something off the dinner menu. The price was good for a. Family of 5 so yes, we'll give this place another try. Update 1/15/16 We finally went back to give this place another try and we enjoyed our meals. I got the American Breakfast with two pancakes and it was a lot of food! It was hot and the pancakes were yummy!! I was so impressed with how clean the restrooms were. The waiter was so cute and very attentive, she checked on us and got anything we needed. My daughter got the Shepard's Pie and she said it was the best she ever had. My husband got an omelet loaded with veggies and meat and he enjoyed it. I'm really glad our experience here was great. read more
