Always great, love going there every time I have such a fun experience. Had a fancy big bloody mary with cheese, peppers and asparagus. I highly recommend this spot but was disappointed on the way out to see an OK rating by the health department. read more

This place reminds me of my younger party days. When you partied hard and went to sleep on the couch. Your hosts woke up late and tried to be hospitable by making breakfast for everyone. In their hungover state, the food was often barely eatable. And the ambience consisted of less than gracious hosts. Plus, the air was filled with the smell of stale beer. I have been here several times here. Most often my servers appear to struggle to take an order and serve food. Same for the cooks. You can get a great breakfast here some days. Other days, the food is awful. You can get wonderful service. Or, your server looks as if they would love to just go to sleep in one of the booths. Know you are taking a gamble on food and service. Almost guaranteed something will be wrong. I come here not particularly hungry. The nostalgia of the place, the difficulty of the staff and kitchen in serving customers is a definite experience. read more

I hadn't been here in almost 15 years, but last weekend we were planning to get breakfast down the street, but the line was too long, so we came here. I honestly forgot how amazing this place is, and now I'm annoyed at myself for not coming for so long. I had a scramble, which I'd never had before; it was amazing, and their biscuits are ridiculously good! My husband had the Reuben, and it may be one of the best I've tried. In short, this place is a gem, and the fact that it's still doing so well, and making delicious food at a reasonable price after all these years speaks volumes! I live almost 30 minutes away, but I plan to return more often. It's worth it! -Oh, and the service is terrific as well! read more

We have been going to the Blue Star for over 20 years! It was one of our favorite breakfast places when we are in town. However, this last visit on December 2, we had a very poor experience. Their signature coffee was undrinkable and was sent back, two of us ordered dishes that had poached eggs that were way overcooked (as in hard boiled); we asked our server to replace the eggs with soft poached eggs and heard the server explaining to the kitchen how the eggs should be cooked. My daughter ordered the French Toast Combo which very crispy, which was advertised as light and fluffy. My other daughter dish got cold while waiting for the replacement eggs. My wife had an omelette with country potatoes - the omelette was fine but the potatoes were over cooked and tasteless. I had the cinnamon roll which was very good. We were very disappointed and not sure if we'll be back. read more

FIRE the cook! I ordered the corned beef hash. everything was cut in a way that you'd have to cut it twice more to eat it. The potatoes were raw as were the bell peppers. The peppers were the main ingredient. The poached eggs were hockey pucks. I've eaten at Blue Star for years, this is the worst it's ever been. read more

Cinnamon roll review only. I always find myself eating a cinnamon roll wishing there was more frosting. The big hunk of cinnamony doughy goodness at Blue Star did not have me yearning for more frosting though. This thing was drowning in frosting. Let's think through how/why this is the case. I was seated at the bar and to my left could see a bit of the kitchen. I saw a microwave heating up biscuits and assume my CR had a similar fate. This would make the bread (too) warm and the frosting (when poured on with a five gallon bucket) to melt off. I don't say this to disparage the fine experience I had, only to add context. I approached this cinnamon roll as any reasonable person would, outside in. Uncurling the outer rings and (literally) dipping them into the pool of frosting on the plate. It occurred to me after a few minutes, though, that the outer rings are effectively soaking in the frosting. I changed my tactics to cut into the roll pie-style. Not quite to the core - I'm still leaving the best part for last - but about 85% of the way in. For me, this unlocked what would have been a rather dry midsection of the roll to the waiting excess of frosting. The construction of the roll was 5/5. Size: absolutely 5/5. The amount of frosting, also 5/5 (with the aforementioned pie-styler cutting approach). However, the actual dough and cinnamon part left a tiny bit to be desired. I can't, in good conscious, lead the readers to believe the actual cinnamon part of this particular cinnamon roll was five stars. That sticky, gummy core just wasn't quite there for me. Stay diligent, my friends. read more

Today I got the Potatoes "Plus" only a couple potatoes were edible the rest could have been used as Wood Chips due to how over cooked they are. The bacon was bunt to a crisp and not crispy bacon burnt Charred crispy bacon... Yuck! On top of that my girlfriend got the California eggs Benedict with Rotten Avocados, wimpy Tomatoes, and a Hamburger bun for one half of her Eggs Benedict and the other half was an English muffin. How lazy could one be to use half a Hamburger bun and the other half an English muffin? Talk about disgusting, if your looking for a breakfast joint go to Denny's. read more

So, I almost didn't come here because it had only 3 stars. But, based on reviews we jumped in. Art murals on side also enticed me. Food was so amazing. Had the Monterrey Scramble and it was one of best. Server was so pleasant. They were busy and it seemed they could use more help. But, that's the way it is these days and we just need to support. The only reason why i would give blue star 4 stars is because of the awful wait we had to endure for the food but we did go during brunch on a Sunday which is from 8am-3pm. Don't be discouraged because you can still order dinner menu items before 3pm! It didn't seem like there were that many people in the Cafe since we got seated within five minutes. But the kitchen just seemed so backed up. Our waitress only popped out of the kitchen every 15 min so it was hard to add on to the order to bring something like the cinnamon roll out. I ordered the cinnamon roll about 30 min after ordering the main breakfast dish because i was so hungry, i thought the cinnamon roll would just be easy to bring out - something to much on while we waited. But it actually came out with the food. And boy was there a lot of food. read more

WOW WOW WOW. If I could give 10/10 I would. Their menu is amazing all through the day. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and makes you feel like you're eating at home with friends/family. It's my new favorite spot easily. If you want a great drink and even better service, (well the drink is amazing but you get it.) ask for Tyler, although the ENTIRE STAFF is kind, accommodating, fast, and efficient. Normally this place is pretty good. Today was really disappointing. Ordered chicken fried steak and it was missing potatoes and gravy. We had to wait for an hour for our food and and then we ordered shoe string fries and they said they were out but a couple minutes later somebody else got them. They also forgot to put the lettuce and tomato on my burger, but our server was very generous and kind. Then they accidentally gave my sister spicy syrup for her pancakes. I came here after a fasting blood draw that took way too long, so I was starving! Ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy. There was a lot of corned beef, very tasty, not many potatoes. My eggs were not quite cooked, runny white is not appetizing. I selected a biscuit for my bread, and it was so disappointing! HUGE, but dense and almost undercooked. I took most of it home and toasted it the next day. Still not great. Service was excellent. read more

We ordered: - California eggs Benedict - Avocado toast - Blue star egg burrito The Benedict bread was thick, one egg was runny and the other wasn't. About that I thought it may be the delivery so I didn't pay much attention. How we the hollandaise sauce was too liquid, and the overall plate was ok but I will not order this from here again The avocado toast was disgusting. They sent a huge piece of bread, there was almost no avocado on the toast. This has been the worse avocado toast we ever had. We end up throwing half of the avocado toast The burrito was filled with potatoes. We didn't see any bacon until the end of the burrito, which we thought in the beginning we will see a bunch but no, it was almost no bacon. In general we will never order from here again, even if it had a lot of reviews in DoorDash, it is not a good place to order delivery. I don't know if the quality will be better if you go in person, but even if they will say this, I think a good place should always try to keep good standards if you go to the place or if you order delivery read more

The waitress Leslie was fantastic but as usual the food was underwhelming. It's just never as good as I want it to be. French toast 0/10 do not eat Avocado toast 6/10 fine but not tasty Chile verde scramble 7/10 yummy but needs crisper chips (who likes soggy chips?) Super hobo eggs dish was dry & overdone. It was stuffed solely of sliced undercooked potato slices and there was no meat to be found despite my request for bacon. Their biscuit & coffee were the only good thing about my $20 breakfast meal. This dish should be removed from the menu....it's inedible! We used to love coming here. I ordered the Rueben. Everything about it is bland. The meat is not corned beef, it's so bland and dry. The sauerkraut tastes like cabbage bathed in vinegar, not sauerkraut. There is a serious lack of cheese and sauce. Same rye bread I get at the store, cheap. Did not enjoy. Will not do again. So very dry. So little cheese. But mostly, SO VERY BLAND! read more

Horrible experience - ordered a large brunch order for my entire family for a birthday gathering. The food was mediocre and they didn't provide any Hollandaise for any of the 4 eggs Benedict orders. Then did not respond to calls. Wouldn't recommend this place - not worth it. As an update to the above review, they were thoughtful enough to apologize and refund the order. At the time, it still wasn't the greatest experience, but I appreciate that they refunded me and they cared enough about customer service to reach out to me and make things right. read more

Ordered the loaded blue Star burrito, scone and nitro cold brew. The burrito was swell. The scone was the best I've ever had! I bought it as a munch for coffee, it stole the show. Great place with many options. Closes at 3pm. Edit: a week later I am back. Had the fruity waffles and combo upgrade with 2 eggs and meat. Next time I'm trying the scrambles. read more

I have been going to this restaurant on and off for many years, but just recently made a trip back here with my dad and we had breakfast for lunch. I am gluten free and have many other mild food allergies, so I ordered the breakfast potatoes with bacon and cheese. It was very reasonably priced at $10.99, and was the perfect amount of food. I was very pleased with the service, pricing and food. I would recommend to anyone! Great place for breakfast or lunch. It can get a bit loud, as it is a popular spot. read more

A super cool vibe! Bloody Mary was delicious. Potatoes and veggies in my corned beef hash were not cooked (crunchy, not good). Asked for new potatoes and got a plate of perfectly fried potatoes. Server seemed anxious to turn over the table... put tab on table and when we asked for another round of Bloody Mary's, she rolled her eyes. Not cool. Blue Star, you need to hire more people! The restaurant seemed to be very understaffed. We could see our waitress running around trying to handle several tables--it took a while to get our order started and when we handed over our cards to pay it took a long time for her to get them back to us. Otherwise it's good for casual brunch--the food was good but nothing special. I had a buttermilk biscuit and found it a little dry and tasteless. They do have a lot of different egg dishes and they are happy to make anything you want. Free coffee refills are a nice touch. read more

So....I got there and had to wait 20 minutes (after I was told 5-10). It was not busy, at all, yet it was a mess. Then, I sat at my table. And waited and waited for a very long time. No one greeted me, as many walked by. I finally got someones attention and asked for my server... waited even more. Got the attention of someone else, who happened to be my server. She was about to leave to get me water, but I stopped her to give her my complete order (who knows how long I would have had to wait until ordering). The busser came and dropped off my coffee, but not the water. After, yet again, waiting more, I got his attention for some water. While, waiting for my food... The table next to me had been waiting for their food for an hour! One of the people at that table even had to get up and get the pitcher of water and served the tables around us.... still waiting for my food while everyone else was getting theirs. Finally got my food, after awhile. It was cold! The potatoes were warm, eggs and veggies were cold. Coffee was hot, but very watered down and expensive (tasteless). Coffee and water were never refilled (and they were needing to be refilled). Then, I gave my server my card after she dropped the check. Waited even longer for her, while she was talking to another table and their complaints and then proceeded to tell all the servers and bartender... before running my card. Wow... this was definitely an experience - not a good one! Thank goodness I am patient. Some people just walked away, at different stages of their time at this restaurant. I have come to Blue Star a few times... today was by far the worst service, lack of detail, lack of attention and lack of customer service! And, unfortunately, I was hoping to say that the food saved the day and experience... but, it definitely did not. It was cold, lacked seasoning and flavor (both in the food and coffee). read more

The restaurant has a few sitting areas which all are different. We sat in a booth. We stayed with Amazing Bloody Mary's and I will return just to have another one or two! Our breakfasts were solid with a lot of bacon and the biscuits were large and satisfying. We will be back for the Bloody Marys! read more

Whatever happened to Uncle Hoa? He had a great chicken dish with love and character on a long distant memory of a menu here at the Blue Star. I came here for trivia every Monday for the better part of a decade, and each year, after a certain point, the quality would decline noticeably. I've now come back a couple times for trivia after a several year hiatus, and I'm sad to report that at some point the food bottomed out and the service has to begin making the yearly quality sacrifice. Did Uncle Hoa leave and put a hex on the Blue Star for abandoning him and his namesake dish? I suspect so. Today, the food is boring in taste, preparation, and presentation. There's not much to write that you can't see or suspect from the deeply unenthusiastic menu. What's certain is that you will have ample time to contemplate this menu - don't expect a waiter to swing by for 20+ minutes. Once you have ordered, do then expect to let the anticipation build. As your hunger grows, you will ask yourself existential questions like "why didn't I just grab tacos at TNT?" Or "if I leave now, get slice from Pagliacci's, and come back; will I beat my order, and will they even notice?" read more

Wow. Don't go here. If I could leave less than 1 star I would. -Took 15 minutes for a waitress when there were 5 tables with people. -The food brought out didn't have all the ingredients that were listed on the menu. The waitress said they didn't have those ingredients. -No condiments given or asked to bring over. -Cold food. -Once the waitress dropped off the food we didn't see her again until we were done. -What's with the shot size glasses of water?? Food was just BAD. -When we told her the food was bad she said she would give a 25% discount but "she had to charge something". She' took 25% off one item, not the entire bill. Really? Not her fault the food was bad, but the service wasn't much better. We used to come here all the time. It's sad that the place has dissolved into this. Never again. read more

My friends and I all liked their brunch. The portion was huge and the scone is very buttery! One thing we noticed is that the waiter was a little bit impatient when we were still waiting for one more friend to arrive. She came to our table 3 times to ask for order while we were still waiting for our friend. Right when our friend arrived, she came to us again and asked us if we were ready to order. I guess it'd be great for the staff to wait a little bit longer. They have a lot of tasty options and we just need some time to read through the menu. ;) read more

We've been serving Seattle amazing food since 1975, as Eggs Cetera to Blue Star Cafe and Pub with a few others in between! Our mission is to provide delicious home-style food in a warm and familiar environment. With over 40 years of success, we look forward to adding you to our long history of happy customers!

Meet the Business Owner: Wendy M.

Wendy has been around the restaurant business her whole life. She came back to Blue Star in 2008 and took over ownership from her father, Leon. She believes that her love for feeding and entertaining others, and deep passion for the family business, meant coming back to it was "only a matter of time". It’s her wish to provide you such a positive experience you'll return to Blue Star Cafe & Pub when you're craving a great meal and a laid-back casual experience!

No Philly cheesesteak. So I asked, "If you didn't have Philly cheesesteak, why didn't you tell me that when I ordered it?" He said, "I don't know, I can put it on the side if you'd like." I said, "I thought you didn't have any Philly cheesesteak?" He walked away, came back with a side of Philly cheesesteak, and told me to put it on the sandwich myself. For $19, I shouldn't have to assemble my own sandwich -- especially after being told you didn't even have the main ingredient. Just be upfront with customers.

Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Bad ethics. Avoid at all costs. Food is okay (usually fine, but sometimes the ingredients are very stale or otherwise questionable), but the owner, Tony Morales, is one of those people who doesn't know how to run a restaurant properly. He doesn't view employees as people, and he'll cut corners to save a buck wherever he can (even if it's not totally legal). To make matters even worse, he's also a property manager with Real Property Associates here in Seattle, and he has a reputation for completely ignoring any and all tenant issues. He's the type of slumlord who will gladly let serious issues progress until people either have to move out or their health is compromised. Just avoid this place altogether-- Tony doesn't deserve the business, and there are plenty of better spots in the neighborhood. read more

A decent bar with a large beer selection and friendly servers. The food will meet your expectations for bar food. I have enjoyed the hummus platter (order a side of feta cheese to make it extra yummy), sweet potato fries (crispy and melt in your mouth), the regular fries (addicting and come with three yummy dipping sauces) and the mushroom and Swiss burger (a decent burger with good toppings). They are great with seating large groups on weeknights. I have been there twice with my dodgeball group (7+ people) on Wednesday nights and they were able to seat us all together. The servers were attentive and good about keeping our glasses full. They even split up the check for us! I've been a loyal patron of Blue Star Cafe for years, and they never disappoint! The Chile Verde Scramble I had recently was absolutely fantastic--flavorful, perfectly cooked, and just the right amount of spice. Their scones are consistently a hit; light, fluffy, and the perfect complement to any meal. The house potatoes were also great--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The food, as always, was amazing. However, the service was just okay during my last visit--perhaps I caught them during a shift change? Despite this, I'll continue coming back, as the food quality and consistency keep me coming back time and time again. Blue Star Cafe remains one of my go-to spots! read more

My family and I were looking for a place to have breakfast before visiting the Woodland Park Zoo last weekend. We stumbled across Blue Star Cafe. There was a small group of people waiting outside, so we figured that it was a popular place to eat. The menu was perfect because some of us wanted breakfast, and some of us wanted lunch. The perfect menu for small children, teenagers, and adults. We had to wait only 10-15 minutes for a table of 5. The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. I wish I could give zero stars for the Blue Star Cafe. I was in, dining tonight, and I witnessed my favorite waitress get jabbed--yes, physically jabbed in the shoulder in a violent way--by the owner of the establishment. She left immediately, very upset, and I was not far behind her. If this is the way employees are treated there, I do not envy them. I hope others read this review and consider exactly who they want to support in the community. Though I've been a regular customer there for quite some time, I will not be returning. read more

Went in for lunch hoping for a quick bite... honestly expected another average Seattle dining experience. Boy was I surprised! The service was really good. We got food recommended by the server. He said his favorite Benedict was the California and I can see why. The helper girl was really cute and friendly too and kept showing up with coffee at the perfect time. Really great place! We were/are on vacation visiting family down the street and we ate here 3 times in a week! The breakfast/lunch which we had twice was awesome both times, my wife really liked that they had veg options for the burgers. Went in last night for dinner and that was great too! Service is very friendly , beer list is long, and prices are good. Too bad we don't live closer, we'd be seeing a lot more of the blue star! It is a great place and as we visit seattle often I wonder how we haven't found it sooner read more

Delicious! Outstanding service!! Was in on saturday, Had a Top gun scramble as suggested by my waiter, my girlfriend had the chili verde also by recommendation. Both were perfect as were our scones. They were packed when we went in around 12:30 and although our waiter was busy he managed to be prompt in greeting and getting food out and even made some time to talk to us beyond the normal server "routine". OMG! Ok I was a patron when you existed on Capitol Hill many years ago as Tory's Eggscetera, And I still LOVE you. I hate to give anyone a one star, I love their fries but that is all I can say. The omlets are very overpriced 9 dollars!!! and do not taste any better than what I can make for 1.50. I always use the coffee test to note how attentive the servers are (do they refill your coffee with out you asking? Again, usually). Their menu has a great variety from Benedicts and omelets to pancakes (I cant speak to lunch as I always stuck to breakfast; however, there is a large menu full of burgers). Most of these come with a side of potatoes/hash-browns and a side of toast (sub fruit for extra $). Some of my favorites are the Joes Scramble, The Ballard Industrial, The Magnolia Omelette, and the Pancake Combo. In general, I like everything Ive had here. And again, they are pretty consistent. ?Unfortunately, today was an off day (the food was under-seasoned, the service was a little slower, and the eggs were slathered in sour cream). Ill give them the benefit of the doubt because they're usually pretty great.

I actually was not aware it was a chain until I went to post this review, since the food was so good. I got the Swedish pancakes, which I rarely see in California, and I really enjoyed them. They did come a bit burnt on the first day, which was a bit of a turn off. The butter that came with them also was not very high quality. I would appreciate butter chips that are prepackaged. I also got the hash browns with cheese, and I loved that you can request extra crispy hash browns. It definitely got the job done, and I am already missing those Swedish pancakes.

I'd personally prefer this over a dead silent restaurant given the choice between the two. The wait wasn't bad despite being packed - seated a group of 5 in about 10 minutes. Price wasn't bad, just over $100 for a group of 5. Overall a good experience. A few areas for marginal improvement but a solid spot, and service was friendly and prompt. Never got through more than half a cup of coffee or water before refills were offered.

Anything involving the chili is also highly recommended.
