On our way to the coast, we decided to stop halfway for some lunch. My husband found Blue Wing Saloon and we decided to give it a try. They were only offering outdoor seating, in their beautiful courtyard, but that was fine because we had our dogs with us (yay for dog-friendly patios). Our waitress was kind and attentive. I ordered their chicken wrap and my husband ordered the Wagyu beef burger. For starters we split the calamari. 5 stars for the ambiance of the courtyard - a nice fountain in the middle with plenty of shade. As for the food, we both enjoyed our entrees but felt the calamari was a little underwhelming and tough to chew. All in all, a nice meal in a nice setting with excellent service. read more

Some dear friends took us out to dinner here tonight. My wife had the Ratatouille. She said it was quite good. Our friends both ordered the salmon and liked it very much too. I was the unlucky one. I ordered the ribeye steak, medium rare. The steak was paper-thin and very small. Apologetic would be a good word to describe it. There wasn't any pink in it at all. It was overcooked. There was a tiny dollop of mashed potatoes (why be so frugal with something like potatoes? Was it because the steak was so small?). Anyway, the only good part was the asparagus which was cooked well and there was enough of it. I was left feeling hungry after eating my "meal". We tried the desserts, but all the choices were what I call foo foo desserts, the crap you see at every restaurant these days. our friends ordered Creme brulee and my wife chocolate cheesecake. I ate some of the chocolate cheesecake because I was so hungry still, but of course, the chocolate overpowered the cheesecake (why do people mix these things?!?). Anyway, they only had the same boring desserts you see everywhere else. No creativity. Nothing unique. The service was good. I'll probably go back because everyone else liked their food. Had dinner here as we we're driving through the area. The customer service was really great - we were greeted when we walked into the door and our server was also attentive and friendly! My favorite part was the back patio - it's decorated like the backyard of my dreams. Trees with hanging lights, patio furniture, and lots of space. We had the fried chicken sandwich and the veggie burger (that they make in-house). Both were excellent! They also had a nice looking cocktail menu though we didn't drink, I'd love to come back and try one! Great grilled rock fish tacos and side green salad. For dessert we had yuzu cheesecake - a great not so sweet variation, served with blackberry compote. Sweet server. But what made the meal was the ambience. The whole town is cuter than a kitten. 6 big leaf maples shade the Blue Wing's courtyard and a burbling water feature keeps the air moist. Our dog secretly sipped from it. So comfortable! The live band (6 days a week) sets the tone. We were treated to old jazz standards. Such a relaxing break from a full day of driving! Let me start with saying I have never had a bad experience at the Blue Wing. This will be the third year I have chosen to come here on my birthday. When I called to make the reservation, I requested a lower patio area table, not on the cramped deck. I was told they would try to accommodate. Great! We (3 of us) get there and we are seated at a table for 6 on the cramped deck. The chairs are awful. Tiny and no padding ( I have a bad back). The whole time we are there there are 2 empty tables that seat 4 in the area I wanted to sit in. I also want to note our table was at the end of the building near the back and we kept getting a horrible stench of grease trap. Took the waitress forever to take our order but once we were served, she asked at least 5 times how we were doing. I always get fish and chips, they are really good here. My friends were disappointed that the dinner menu had changed again, taking off the Stroganoff and Korean rice bowl item. They are known for changing the menu a lot so if you like something ask if it's still here before you come. I'm still hurting this morning from those chairs! With the prices they charge, they should be able to get chairs big enough to accommodate a 160 pound adult. read more

This place was more a cultural experience than anything. Everyone knows everyone. It looked cool with a cool bar inside. You do need reservations...? Idk we got there and they said they were full but if the bar opened up we could sit there so we did and then there were open tables outside the whole time we were there. Just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. My husband got a medium steak that was pretty tough, we make better steak at home. I got the beef stroganoff. The sauce was great, the beef not so much. Honestly this place is overpriced and overhyped by the the locals for the quality of food. Got the blondie sundae that had a really cheap caramel sauce on it? Some sauce that I'd had before from Safeway that isn't good. The ice cream was fine though. read more

I will start by saying this is probably one of the highest quality meals you can get in Lake County. The cocktails and wine selection is good and there is good atmosphere-especially the Friday night band! I've been here probably 4 times now and I would say it's a 5/5 stars for dessert and drinks. This was one of the rudest places I've ever walked into and by far one of the strangest restaurant experiences we ever encountered. We asked if we could sit outside and there were plenty of seats but we're told almost 20 minutes later that there was only seats inside. Weird seating situation, why spend your money at a place where you aren't greeted and doesn't feel welcome. They wouldn't even hardly look at us. No clue what was going on. Waited even longer and didn't get any type of beverage offering. I'm so disappointed because we put this place specifically to visit on our road trip and we walked away hungry - didn't even eat there. Hope y'all have a better experience than we did! read more

This is the best fried calamari in my life. It is just a little breaded, not oily, crispy as it supposed to be. I fall in love with that and ready to drive 150 miles from San Francisco to get it. This restaurant has seriously gone down hill. Over the last 4 times in last couple years dishes are lousy..brunch had small amount of scrambled eggs with frozen potatoes , no flavor and expensive. It was crap. Dinners our recent visits we had overcooked oily appetizers, salad is expensive not much to it, the pasta Primavera I ordered was old penne noodles stuck together rewarmed with a weird brown gravy served with the chicken which seemed like chunks that are processed thrown in cold for 27$ .It was inedible and gross, the fish tacos no flavor, greasy with some unflavored slaw, and cold jalapeño chunks thrown in!, We got one glass wine , one drink. No bread, no salad For $100. It's just not a dinner service. You can do way better, hire a chef, whoever you have shouldn't be in a kitchen each time has been more disappointing and we will not be back again, period. It's a waste of money and there was only one other couple in the restaurant eating so it isn't short staff or a busy night... seriously this place must think it doesn't have to have try with decent food at decent prices. Stayed again. Bernie, the food is awful-I've been here a few times now. You need to hire local gourmet chefs from Napa-you're only open on weekends. We stayed 2 nights at the lovely Tallman Hotel next door to the Blue Wing. The large canopy of shade trees covering the outdoor dining area really helped to keep it shady and cool. Food was very tasty The staff was friendly and efficient. Great live music both evenings we dined there. Cons: No Beer on tap-taps were broken. The bottle/can beer selection is disappointing. Very basic-- Bud, Coors, Modelo. The one craft beer they had on the list -EEL River IPA- they were out of. This is a really neat place, no doubt having a much better craft beer selection would definitely take it up a notch! read more

Definitely one of my top three restaurants in Lake County. Bar / restaurant with outdoor sitting. If you like Bison Burgers, this is definitely the place for you. The fish and chip are delicious as well. Great customer service and of course, the restrooms were very clean. I am staying at Tallman and heard nothing but great reviews for Blue Wing restaurant, thus I decided to try it out. I picked Sunday for dinner because there is supper special available. The Supper Special is 3 courses: Salad, Pork, and Bread pudding. I am allergic to pork asked for a substitute, no substitute allowed. I tried to order shrimp n grits but the Sausages is part of the ingredients that can not be separated. I substitute the bun for brioche, which was grilled with garlic butter Yum !!!! So I picked Veggie Burger with side of Grits+ shrimp. I asked for grits was pushed by server to get fries n salad which I didn't like. Half of the veggie burger was burnt. I told the server who ended up comping the burger. The grits got a delicious smoky flavor Yum !!! I ordered apple crumb pie with side of ice cream, that was delicious. Music was great, service was quick, despite a few minor issues, overall great experience!!!! read more
