After doing a Sushi search in this area I found this placed. Based on Yelp reviews and Yelp images I decided to give it a try.... I'm glad I did. I was very happy with the results. We tried and shared several dishes ranging from 4 different Ramens, Nigiri pieces, Sake, and Beers. 1) Their Ramen, all the types we ordered, were all good. 2) The Nigiri pieces we tried were overall good. They were good size and fresh. One non positive thing: one of my Salmon Nigiri pieces had a bid of tendon or skin on it. Chef probably did not noticed it... my mouth did. At first it felt like a bone but turned out to just skin or tendon. I say tendon because of lack of a better word for it. In any case, it was not welcome; however, that minor incident did not damage our experiences that day. The Nigiri pieces were good and presented well. I even like the bit of wasabi under the fish they added to each piece. 3) The Sake was good. Tasted a bit like peaches. The beers were bottled or canned (Sapporo). Priced okay. 4) The waiter was friendly and attentive. 5) Some of our Nigiri pieces came out after we were eating our main course. That's was not good. We prefer our appetizers to arrive before our main course meal. 6) Some of the spoons we got were dirty or had visual food particles on them where they were not inspected after they were cleaned. They should do a better job at that. Overall, it was great and we recommend you try it. We will be returning soon. UPDATE ON REVIEW ABOVE: Have keep in coming here over the past year or more. This place is still great and food is delicious. After having here so many times my only update to the above has to do with the following... Place is small and has a very wide variety of choices on the menu (This is why we keep coming here whenever we can); however, this makes service slow if you have a large party (at least 5 or more) and all in your party order different types of foods. Have patience, the food is delicious. If you don't like waiting very long and have a large party I recommend you all order similar dishes so that they come out together. Overall I would come back to this place in the future again and again; however, I would try to avoid coming with a big party because it takes forever for everyone to get their food. Most time each person will get their food before the others at your party and at times you may not get your food until most of the people at the table are done eating. Again, this will not stop me from returning to this awesome place it is just something I wanted to note to all so that you are aware. If coming with a big party be prepare to wait a while for your food specially if the place is already full of people. In any case, please come and try them out for yourself. read more

They knocked it out of the park as ALWAYS! We usually order our favorites because it's so good, but decided to try something new this time. I am from the PNW so I have high expectations for Fish & Chips. I finally tried it here & LOVED IT! It was different but in an awesome way. The fish was cooked perfectly, the tarter sauce had a special spicey twist, & the coleslaw was unique & flavourful. This place literally cooks food with perfection & artistry. I'm sorry to say that my husband and I were extremely disappointed with our experience here. Based on the many positive reviews, I had high expectations, but now that I'm looking back on previous reviews after having dined here, I can see many other people have had less than standard experiences here as well. Firstly - I want to mention this has nothing to do with the service or how the place looks. Our server was friendly and kind and we didn't mind the kind of tight and casual interior. The issue lies entirely in the food itself and how long it takes to prepare. As previous reviewers have mentioned, it's not uncommon for them to take 40+min to prepare sushi. Note that when my husband and I visited, it was a Saturday night around 7pm. Despite the time, there weren't that many other people there (maybe a third full) - so I'm not quite understanding why it takes them 40+ min to make sushi even with one sushi chef. The waitress did warn us in advance that sushi would take 40+min, but at that point we had just gone biking and were hungry, having driven 30min out of our way to come here (I'd had my eye on this place for a while before our visit), we decided to start by ordering ramen which the waitress assured us would not take long to come out. The wait for the ramen ended up being about 30 min with the sushi coming in at 40+min so in the end it wasn't even much faster. Their kitchen seems so understaffed for a Saturday night. The kimchi ramen was ok - nice and spicy kimchi flavor. The katsu that came with the curry was yummy and crispy, and the curry broth had a relatively light and pleasant curry flavor. However, the noodles were nothing special and the presentation could use improvement. The ramen bowls are an abnormally small size which causes the noodles to be extra clumped together. The flavors of the broth, however, were pretty good. Overall the ramen was pretty average - 3.5/5. It's not bad but I've had so many better bowls. The real issue is with the sushi. On 7pm on a Saturday night, they were out of their most popular dishes, like the poke bowls and the potato shrimp appetizer. We decided to order some rolls to eat after the ramen. After the long wait, our dth roll and shrimp nips arrived. We didn't finish either of them - not for lack of stomach space but because they were just that bad. The tuna on top of the shrimp nips roll was actually decent, but the roll itself tasted the way house paint smells. No idea what was wrong with it but we ended up only eating the tuna on top. In general, the sushi rice was goopy and bland, so we ended up picking out all the fish inside instead of eating the whole roll (which is something we literally never do normally). My husband and I are pretty picky about rice, and my husband especially is sensitive to textures. Overall this is the most overhyped sushi restaurant with good reviews I've ever been to (and if you look at my profile you'll know sushi is kinda my jam). Highly disappointed but am hoping these guys can work out the kinks in their restaurant and do better in the future. read more

The absolute BEST poke bowl I've ever had. Less expensive options can be had around town, all of which pale in comparison to this one. Splurge the $20 and get this! The owner/chef is intentional and deliberate in the sheer umami experience he's delivering here. I've tried to order this dish take out a few weeks back and they said they won't do that take out. I now over-stand why. It would have changed everything about this dish by acquiescing to the sin of packing it. Stopped here for dinner with my colleague on our way back to Richmond Airport by looking up restaurants on Yelp. It was a great find. The sushi roll looked great and tasted even better. We came here during COVID and ordered takeout. I called in around 5:15 and there was a 50 minute wait because they were busy. When I arrived I went in to pay and they brought to food out to me when it was ready. The place is cute. A little small from what I could see but I only went to the counter and left. There were a couple of tables outside off to the side. The steamed potstickers were good but there was nothing to dip them in. Not sure if it was missing maybe. The steak and shrimp dinner was real good I liked everything about it. Maybe a little too much pepper on one piece. But it was steak and shrimp with mashed potatoes and you got to choose another side. One thing we didn't like was the explosion sandwich. It sounded real good but was super spicy. My wife likes a little spice but she said this was inedible it was so hot. I ate a little and my mouth was on fire for a while. We tried this out today at lunch based a friends recommendation. We tried the steamed dumplings, shrimp tempura roll, and the Tam Tam ramen dish. The dumplings had a nice taste and their were plenty as an appetizer. The shrimp tempura roll was very nicely presented with a sauce on the side and very nice ginger and wasabi. We had not had ramen before (other than the grocery type), and it was a very nice surprise for us. Ample and beautifully presented with a little heat to woken the tastes. We had about half the ramen and a few slices of the tempura to take home. Server was very friendly and nice and the setting was nicely casual. We'll definitely plan on going back! read more

As much as Iove trying new restaurants, I always have to come back to Asian food every few days since it's my home. Being originally from NOVA, it's hard to do this since there aren't a lot of options to choose from. I like Bluefish Grill because it allows me the opportunity to return to my roots every so often and it helps that Bluefish's food is pretty good. My favorite food to get there is their ramen. I highly recommend their mabo ramen. As someone who is picky and doesn't like a lot of meat, the Mabo Ramen is perfect because it has ground pork and bok choy. It also helps that I love spicy food which Mabo is as well. The Mabo Ramen is full of flavor and includes bamboo, naruto maki, and seaweed to make it the full Japanese Ramen experience. They also allow you to put extras into your bowl such as char siu pork if you want more meat. All in all, this small shop is a hidden gem in the area and should be your go-to for Asian food. When it's packed in the restaurant, service can be slow because the wife does all the cooking so be prepared for that. However, it's definitely worth the wait. read more

Moved to Virginia 2 years ago and this is the first time I can say I have found the best sushi I have tasted in the suburbs of Richmond. Sushi was extremely fresh, rolls are big, service was really great. The place is small but do not let that fool you. Food is fantastic. I also got the soft shell crab quesadillas which I didn't take a picture of. Awesome as well. Hands down this is my family's new favorite sushi spot. They have a very eclectic menu. Only reason why I give this two stars is because of the waitress. She was very welcoming. The food was awful. My son has the kids popcorn shrimp. They were basically burned. I had the crab cake dinner. Crab cakes were ok, broccoli was salty, and the mashed potatoes smelled and tasted spoiled. Plus I saw them just warm up the sides in a damn microwave. My friend got the Sailors Platter and everything was damn near over cooked. We also tried the sweet chili potato shrimp from so called Japan since the waitress said it was the most popular, and it wasn't even all that. We went there to clebrate a friend's mother's 80th birthday and when we wanred to order our food and mentioned Sushi we were told that any Sushi order would take a minimum of 40 minutes. There was the definite feeling that that was not wanted. So, the birthday "child" ordered the shrimp skewer and when it was served was quite disappointed froom the taste and ordered some lemon wedges to bring it up in flavor where she was "ok " with it. The rest of us ordered Fish and Chips and we were seved totally overcooked fish with the batter on the dark-brown, very crisp side. There was a rather small order of chips with it. The coleslaw was good, but very spicey and the sauce was good, too. Went to go eat and the sushi chef decided he was done for the night at 6:46 at night. So sad. As a manager of a restaurant less than 5 minutes away. This is uncalled for and unacceptable. She started off a little slow at first but picked up while we waited for our meal. She made sure we had plenty of drinks. The place has is small on the inside but cozy. They also have a small patio. Now for the food. I tasted everything and enjoyed the items on big sisters plate. My sister ordered the Combo with Soft shell Crab, Butterfly Shrimp house salad, and onion rings. The shrimp and soft shell were a good portion, lightly breaded and not greasy although fried. The same with the onion rings. I ordered Combo with the grilled shrimp skewer and crab cake. Don't really think it deserves 2 stars, we were talked out of sushi, told it would take 40min due to only 1 sushi chef. Ordered our meal and it took 50min. Ordered fried fish and it was overcooked so much the fish was almost gone. The waitress put my fish in front of me then the cook came and took it away and returned it 1 min later exactly the same way. My wife ordered the ramen and it was the type you by at dollar tree 10 for $1. Bluefish grill is a sit down restaurant with the similar atmosphere to a cheap chinese take out place. While the aura of the store is small and humble, the food is nothing of the like. The cod dinner was the perfect concoction of crunch, butter, and lemon crusting a fresh catch of cod. It was to die for. The poke bowl was beautifully presented and very fresh.
