We landed here on our way to VA beach. This is a nice, family owned restaurant. The hosts are friendly and very nice. The indoor seating area is not very big , they also have few tables in the patio. It was a good weather, so we decided to take a table in patio. The food is just awesome. We had ordered the California roll sushi. It was fresh and was awesome. Just awesome ! Wow.... similar to other Yelpers... I really didn't want to read too much into everyone else's reviews and be disappointed... but seriously I was so impressed. This place is in the little center when you turn into the main Brandermill area off of Hull Street. I really wish I knew of this place before we moved to Midlothian turnpike side of Midlothian this past summer... at any rate it's only 10 minutes away. It is a very small restaurant so from the outside and just walking in I could see how some people may be hesitant and not want to take a chance on it not knowing anything about it or reading Yelp reviews. There are probably 8-10 two person tables which can be put placed together for larger groups. I came here with my girlfriend and my 7 week old for lunch. I'm counting down the weeks till I reach the end of my maternity leave so I'm trying to check out some more lunch spots before I go back to work. While I do work from home I rarely ever go out for lunch since works gets quite busy. Maybe I can go out more on my Friday's off. Again, not too sure what I was expecting... but I knew I really wanted to try some sushi and some ramen. My girlfriend and I decided to split a special sushi roll... I wish I took a pic of the menu since it has been updated and the menu pic on Yelp taken by other Yelpers is slightly outdated. Anyway can't remember the name of the Roll we got... but it had Shrimp Tempura, Tuna and Avocado in it... super fresh and very tasty. My girlfriend got the Ahi Tuna Salad which looked great as well and she thoroughly enjoyed it. There were 5 slices of rarely seared Ahi Tuna... they do ask you how you want the tuna cooked... but honestly you are in the wrong place if you get Ahi Tuna anything but rare. It also had quite a few finely sliced avocado. My girlfriend said that she really loved the wasabi dressing it came with it. I ended up with the Mapo Ramen.... delicious. Probably the best ramen I've had in the RVA area and definitely one of the top ramens I've ever had and I've had quite a few... even been to Ippudo in New York. The broth is so flavorful and it has a great hint of spiciness... though I would say it could be spicier but that is my personal preference. The spicy ground pork topped on the ramen is super flavorful, and the baby bok choy was super fresh and crisp. Bamboo shoots were also delish. The soft egg... absolutely perfect...best soft boiled egg ever! There were also bean sprouts in the ramen. To be honest I only had a spoon or two left of the broth... I probably could've eaten and drank all the broth if I really wanted to... that is actually how you typically eat in real ramen places eat and drink every last drop. Usually people add on to their Ramen since traditionally ramen is not super filling... if there is something I would suggest to them is provide a toppings menu so you can add more toppings... they only had Chashu which is BBQ grilled pork that you can add on. I totally would've gotten more veggies and another half of a soft boiled egg if they had it as menu options. The more I write about this the more I keep thinking I can't wait to go back and have another bowl of ramen... so yummy! I brought my husband and daughter back a few days later... we got fried dumplings which were Crisp and tasty... and Takoyaki (fried octopus balls... I enjoyed it but my husband didn't like the consistency... it has the texture of Chinese Radish Cake that you get when you go eat dimsum... I liked it). I got the ramen again which was still awesome and there were more vegetables this time. And my husband tried the softshell crab dinner which came with stir fried green bean and broccoli... he loved it! We will be back for sure! TIP: Never judge a book by its cover... read more

Atmosphere was cramped. Service was average. I was told sushi would take 40-50 minutes. I ordered the beef and rice bowl. It wasn't good. It was too salty and the portion was very small. My wife had the tuna salad and she liked it. Overall The experience wasn't great and I don't think I will be going back. read more

Had dinner here with a group from work. I had the crab cake dinner, and it was rather good. Although to be honest, after seeing the fish sandwich, I almost wish I'd ordered that instead. And then I saw the sampler with shrimp and soft-shell crab, and then I wish I'd ordered that instead. I guess what I'm trying to say is you need to come back multiple times to try everything. Beer selection is good; it's all in bottles, but you can find what you want. The place itself is rather small, with a spot outside if you want to eat in the open air. I highly recommend that. We came here for the first time today and have committed ourselves to being regulars. The Boat House was crowded, loud, and had a long wait so we went down the street to Marketplace Square to give Bluefish Grill a try. Our server was warm, polite, and enthused at the opportunity to introduce us to the restaurant and his family's fare. We started with a fabulous and unique appetizer with a sweet potato wrapped butterfly shrimp plate. It was expertly seasoned and beautifully presented. For our main course, my wife tried their newly manifested Coco Mango sushi roll, which was as pleasing to the eyes as it was to my palate. It was perfectly prepared and merits a return visit to try its adjacencies on the menu. I opted for the grilled sea bass which was promised to be fresh and a top rated entree. Their promise was delivered upon in folds - the bass was light, tasty, and carried a delightful bouquet of flavors that made it stand out as one of the best bass plates I have had in years. Great food and great menu, but if you don't have two hours of your time, then this is not the place for you. This location s a family owned business and like I said, their dishes and flavors are great, but they lack production. Every time we come here, if you are not the only people here, expect to spend at least an hour minimum of your time. The food takes forever to arrive and if there are more people here and all of you order sushi, one roll will take 45 minutes to arrive. They need a better system to make this place efficient. I would not recommend this place unless they pick up the pace. There are way more sushi restaurants in the immediate area which is way more efficient and the quality is comparable. read more

Let me preface that I am not a fish/seafood/sushi person so I'm writing this mostly through the sentiments expressed by my group. I took the fam here to celebrate an early Father's Day while we were all together and my dad LOVES seafood. My parents live in Colorado so they don't get the same stuff I do on the coast so I wanted to take him here as I've heard great things. I had the yakisoba with beef which I thoroughly enjoyed and my mom had the loaded bird (she also doesn't like seafood) and she enjoyed it too. But the highlight of this review has to be about the seafood of course. My dad and sister both ordered the poke bowl and they shared the executive sushi roll. They both said it was the best sushi roll they've ever had and they eat a lot of sushi. They also loved their poke bowls and loved all of the interesting and fresh ingredients. The former "Bluefish Deli", the "Bluefish Grill" is a super small, local, family-owned restaurant tucked away in the corner of a strip mall..but don't let it's size fool you, the food is outstanding! Seating is limited inside with maybe 15 small tables; however, the service is quick, professional and second to none. They offer a wide variety of freshly prepared food to support a variety of tastes. From the fresh fish of the day to the sushi and the Asian infused dishes, the food is the true star here. I had the spicy Mabo Ramen bowl which was off the chain and a not to be missed dish, while my wife had a simple Caesar chicken salad that was fresh with homemade dressing. We were spending a night in Midlothian visiting a friend. I found this yelping as I usually do to find a good place to eat. We shared the Sweet Chili Potato shrimp & Edamame, both delicious!!! Our friend had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. My husband and I shared the grilled Red Snapper with green beans & potatoes. It was fabulous!!! We eat at Waterford Grill often and the food and service is always good. My husband has had several varieties of pork chops. The standard with apples is one of his favorites. I like the shrimp and grits, Salmon or crab cakes for dinner. For lunch, the rueben is fantastic. Salads are fresh and the ranch dressing is homemade. The crab cake sandwich and house made chips with Waterford sauce are a great carry out. Yes, they do carry out! We absolutely love the white wine Sangria both both peach and berry. The Bloody Mary's are quite tasty. If you see a Chef's Special you like, order it. They are always wonderful. I have, up to this point in my life, never been a fan of Sushi. That all changed today. What a tasty delight! I ordered the chicken curry rice bowl and my wife ordered sushi. The rice bowl was absolutely excellent! When I tried the sushi I became an instant convert. This lovely little place is a definite must if you are anywhere in Midlothian. The people who run it are some of the nicest people I have ever met and the food is incredibly fresh and delicious. I highly recommend coming here. It is worth the trip. Believe the hype. We ordered the eel bowl, spicy ramen bowl, and the playboy roll. All three were excellent. This is authentic stuff (spent a bit of time in Japan). The staff is caring, attentive, and friendly. Seating is limited, but on a nice evening sit outside on the porch, it's great.
