It's a wide diner style establishment with super friendly servers and staff. The gumbo cheese fries... I had never heard but there was before so I decided to get them because I never heard of Gumbo cheese fries. These joints come out huge af! The waitress told me that the order was a full plate, she didn't lie! The ribs come with Cole slaw and baked beans. Now let me tell you, these ribs was hittin! Joints was well over 9000! Oh man, this place was great! My 5 year old and I decided to stop by for lunch while in the area. The place looks cool, goes with the Beale street theme. The hostess is super friendly. At first, I thought the menu was a bit pricey, not too bad though, but then the food came out and the amount you get totally matches the price! I mean, the BBQ cheese fries could have fed 3 people easily! I ended up taking it home for my husband. Not only is it a huge amount, but it's delicious! So you definitely get your moneys worth. Exceeded expectations to the degree we ate there two nights in a row. The entree House salad is a very generous serving and fresh. Ask for the bacon to be extra crispy. The Gumbo rivaled anything I've had in New Orleans, with just the right amount of heat. The BBQ shrimp in an iron skillet were perfectly cooked. As a food snob from the Northeast, I was impressed with their shrimp appetizer: jumbo, fresh & delicious. Their stuffed mushrooms were delicious as well. IMPRESSIVE!!! My lady and I arrived in the storied city of music and food early Monday afternoon. Destination BBQ joint we both wanted to go to was unfortunatley closed. Oh well, plenty to explore regardless. Looked like Beale st was just waking up around 2pm, it was a hot spring day, we needed to eat but many open places did not have their air conditioners running. We did find that Blues CIty HAD A/C!! Got seated right away, I needed a beer and water. Great ambience here, check out the band room in the back, sure would like to experience this at night...we were hungry but not starving as we were on road trip home to FL. Decided to split a plate of Ribs and fried catfish with potatoes and beans. Good choices all around; half rack of ribs and 9 oz catfish filet was plenty filling. Ribs were pure Southern love on a plate!! Fall off the bone with a decent sweet sauce was perfect. Catfish was fresh and crispy with a real homemade tartar sauce. My friend & I wanted a late night steak dinner & chose Blues City. We placed a to go order which consisted of steak with A1, shrimp, potatoes, beans & a salad. The employee confirmed & presented the completed food order. He was holding 2 small cups with lids & was unsure which one was ours. He SNIFFED the containers to determine which had the A1 sauce After getting back to his place, my friend began to pour the sauce on it only to realize it was CHOCOLATE SAUCE!!!!!! After speaking to the manager that night, he (I didn't get his name) apologized and asked me to bring it back for a remake. The next day, I spoke with the day shift manager,Tasha, who was very apologetic. I received a replacement dinner which was DELICIOUS. Thanks to both managers for making it right. This place is definitely a tourist trap and I'm really not sure why. Although, service was great and the live music in the bar was awesome, the food was terrible!! Nothing to write home about and if we ever come back, we'll bypass this attraction. Review for Band Box only. Band box is the separate live music section of the restaurant. Unfortunately, we didn't try any food but the food we saw looked really good. There was no cover charge when we visited and we probably stayed for two hours. The drinks were good and not overly expensive and the band was great. Our server, who was both the bartender and the server for the entire room, was fantastic. She made and served drinks and took food orders and made the rounds constantly to make sure everyone was taken care of. We were looking for a place to eat with music and this place hit the spot. What I like about BCC's facilities is it has a dinning side, and room in between. If you like eating while you watch the band, head for the bar area. If you want a quieter place we're you can have conversation with music in the distant background pick the dining area when you first come in. If you want to hear the band but also want to be able to talk in pick the middle room. I strongly recommend to come here, especially if you are hungry. . It's on the top end of Beale street so you can't miss it. As appetizers we had the proven fries (huge) and gumbo. Both were delicious. Everyone in our party was very pleased with the catfish, ribs, and southern fried tenders entrees. We all had the southern pecan pie als mode. After dinner we stayed for a couple of hours to hear this really good blues bank play. It's a fun place to go and I didn't feel as if it was a tourist trap. While on a business trip to Memphis, Tennessee, the client mentioned wanting to revisit a restaurant that she was familiar with for some Memphis-style barbeque within walking distance from our hotel. By the time I had reached the hotel, she was already at the restaurant. It was only .5 miles from my hotel, which was fine. Besides, after endless restaurant closures, working from home, I needed the exercise, and I didn't mind the walk at sundown. As I walked up, one of their employees greeted and welcomed me. I advised him that I was looking for a friend. Suddenly I located her in the rear at the bar; there is another bar area immediately to the right of the entrance. The bartender went by "Daddy," at least that was the joke. You see, he was wearing a hat that read, Daddy. No name tag, just the hat that read, Daddy. So, I said, "Hey, Daddy, I'm ready to order." He looked at me and said, "See her? She can call me Daddy. So, can her.....her....and her. But you......(long pause), just joking, what can I get you?" We ordered their three tamales with a bowl of chili, full rack of ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, red potatoes with Texas toast. Plus, the customer added the golden fried catfish plate with fries. We had some leftover, but everything was great, nothing too dry, and their ribs were out of this world. Also, they have closed captions on every TV, which is great for the deaf and hard of hearing customers. Like I've always said, having a bunch of TVs going with packed restaurants makes no sense. So my inclination was to pass on eating here because it is right where the Beale Street fun begins. I was jonesing for catfish though and they have some pretty good recommendations. It was 3pm and the craziness hadn't begun so I rolled the dice... and won! Getting started was my only problem. They weren't particularly busy but the greeter apparently didn't notify the server. After about 10 minutes I had 3 different people looking to take care of me though. The catfish was PERFECTLY and lightly fried with a generous portion. That alone guarnatees my return. The hush puppies were so good I ordered another side of them. Even the coleslaw and fries added to my happiness. The two reasons I went with 4 stars was the "fountain" Dr Pepper which was just two steps above flat and the initial seating/service issue. I know the owner/manager was seated a few tables away and he ought to be tuned into his dining room. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you love catfish. read more
