This place is super cute and there was definitely a wait but this location is attached to the West End library so it's easy to kill time. So many things on the menu appealed to me but I got the best of both worlds with a brekki board- a half of an avocado toast and the yogurt with granola and fruit. It was delicious, especially the yogurt! I never knew yogurt could be so tasty. Only downfall is that it is pricey! Especially considering it has table service and you'll have to tip the wait staff, it ends up being a pricey breakfast considering the portions are pretty small. This place is really cute, and they have outdoor seating, which is a plus on nice sunny days. I came here for brunch and it was honestly very sub-par. I got avocado toast which I liked but considering it was $13, it was very overpriced for what you get. Add-ons like an egg ($4) or a thin slice of smoked salmon ($6) is honestly ridiculous and not worth the little amount they give you. I ordered the beet latte and I honestly still dont know how I feel about it. It doesn't taste like beets, it was kind of a sweet/tangy-ish taste that I probably wouldn't order again. My friend got the breakfast bowl and they gave her a hard avocado, and when she asked for another mashed avocado, it took 10/15 just to get it..it shouldn't take that long to mash an avocado. They couldn't make an iced chai for my friend either, yet were able to provide a hot one? I dont really get where that came from. Our servers were also all over the place. I tried to get their attention but they ignored me and headed back. Our waitresses kept changing each time we needed something, whoever took our order, and whoever charged our bill. It baffles me as to why another coffee chain has opened in DC. Particularly one with zero ambience and terrible service. Before these fancy chains open so many different locations they need to train their baristas to properly make a cappuccino! Some worm milk with air bubbles and a shot of inferior espresso beans doesn't make a cappuccino! 5 bucks and I am drinking a half full cup with burned milk bubbles. And the staff consisting of hipster types could barley crack open a forced greed. It's really pathetic! Admittedly, I am a sucker for a good study spot. I was excited to study here due to its proximity to and how it's connected directly to the library. So, after a long study sesh, I meandered over here on a weekday afternoon. I met a friend here and the food we had was great. However, the service sucked. Upon arrival, we had to wait several minutes prior to even being acknowledged. We then had another long, at least 10 minute wait prior to being greeted by our server. While the food was good (avocado toast and oatmeal), our server forgot several items that we ordered and mess up our charges. Additionally, we were never checked on at all during our meal. In reading through other reviews, it appears that our experience was outside the norm but given how awful and inattentive the service was, I doubt I will come back. read more

Food was quite good actually- the avocado toast and banana bread were delicious. Unfortunately we had many problems with service. Our order came out incorrectly and we had to send it back, the waitress was not listening and therefore was not remembering what we ordered, she asked us questions we'd already answered multiple times. We sent one plate back because there was a hair on it, and when it was returned the same plate was clearly used with the same hair on it which we did not notice until the end. We also asked for feta on the side, it came on top so we asked for it to be fixed and the meal came out with no feta instead. Communication skills were poor. Unfortunately, this place was a disappointment. This is one of those instances where Instagram makes this place look much cooler than IRL. Food: Food was ok. I ordered the quinoa oatmeal. The food was nothing great nothing bad but I expect more for a $15 bowl of oatmeal. Drinks: Matcha was extremely poor quality. Drinks were served in a normal glass cup, which is extremely impractical and made it so the glass was so hot I couldn't even drink the matcha until it was about room temperature. 100% do not order to matcha if you are used to any sort of quality matcha. It tasted like very low grade cooking matcha used in a drink. Ambiance: This was disappointing based on the pictures online. The indoor eating space was pretty limited and you sit extremely close to everyone else. Based on pictures I thought this place was going to be more cozy and open air feeling, but it just felt cramped and tiny. Service: This was the big reason for a low star rating. The service was extremely inattentive. We waited for over 20 minutes just for the waitress to come over greet us and take our drink order. I would have just left and gone somewhere else, but thought the food would make up for it, however, it did not. They are open early which is great and the outside seating is awesome. The restaurant is connected to a public library and has a beautiful decor and modern vibe. I should note that we have a few restrictions on food, we only wanted scrambled eggs and we didn't want anything with feta cheese in it. I tell you, if you have these two restrictions, you won't much to choose from at this restaurant. We asked our server if we could have a different kind of cheese, the answer was no, they only have feta. We asked we could have our eggs scrambled, the answer was no again. So, my three stars is not a knock on the food itself, but on lack of flexibility! Ate here outside today for brunch after booking a reservation. Staff was accommodating for my late arrival of about 15 mins. I sat outside awkwardly waiting for my friend to arrive which was about another 45 mins, but they kept feeding me those tasty mimosas so I was a happy camper. Chanel was awesome and got my dranks out with the quickness. Ordering through the phone was a bit tricky (I'm no tech guru). You actually have to pay before receiving your food which makes sense but those mimosas got the best of me so there was a light delay on my part, but eventually I received my breakfast burrito with potato wedges. So good. I think they added guac free of charge. Blessings! Ask for the aoli sauce for the fries (a lil unseasoned) and Chanel will have it right out. She really made our experience worth while. If I had cash I woulda tipped more, or some way of doing it mobile would be awesome. 10/10 would return and recommend. PS- there is an Official Ballot Dropbox directly adjacent to the restaurant. My go to is usually the U Street location, but I was in the area and decided to pick up my burger from this location. I have had their burger before and know how amazing it is so I was in shock this time. I was legit in fear of getting food poisoning as it tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and was microwaved. The fries were not even chewable and they were warm and soggy from the outside and cold and hard from the inside. It was one of the worst experiences especially knowing how good this place typically is. If they are not capable of living up to their standards past lunch time, they should just close the kitchen. It's unfair for customers who are paying $17 for the burger to receive a horrible meal in a to go box. Very disappointing. read more

The natural lighting in the space is gorgeous and the overall atmosphere of the cafe is very airy and refreshing. It was pretty cool that the host had an Australian accent as well! I got an iced coffee and the classic baked eggs and my friend got a regular latte with the avocado smash. The coffee is great quality and I didn't need any sweetener since it was perfect the way it was. The baked eggs were also great! I added some smoked salmon to mine and I was a satisfied full after our meal. My friend really enjoyed her avocado smash as well and I plan on getting that next time when I come back! Absolutely gorgeous cafe in a public library branch. Full of natural right and greenery (although they are plastic) you feel refreshed right upon walking in. The menu has something for everyone - savory roasts, grain bowls, sweet banana bread... and it's adaptable for many allergies (gluten free, vegan, paleo, etc.). I highly recommend getting the wellness flight - a trio of almond milk lattes made with turmeric, matcha and beet. It looks and tasted amazing! The only downside is it gets pretty crowded (we moved to a table for 4 since the one for 2 was so small) and it's pricey. I first had a delicious brunch in one of the Bluestone Lane branches in New York. I was thrilled to see that they finally open a place here in D.C. The place with the windows and natural warming light is gorgeous. And the food is as good as my memorable experience in NY. I already visited the place 3 times during last 2 weeks(I think I am getting addicted!) and tried Brekkie board, Rainbow bowl and the famous smashed Avo Toast. My most favourite meal is the brekkie board, you get two delicious, beautifully decorated meals together and it's really filling too. I am not the biggest fan of the Rainbow bowl and I Think it did not worth the money you pay(16 dollars, Whoa!) The coffee is delicious and I love that they bring the coffee in a glass jar. One of the things I like about the place is that although it's usually packed, the level of noise is really decent and you don't see people shouting(typical DC scene at restaurant/cafes/bars). I could actually work for few hours and finish writing a report while I had my lunch there. A really solid choice and I know I will be a regular here. read more

Bluestone Lane was certainly not another coffee shop in D.C. The cafe is located in a quiet neighborhood in the West End. Walking in, I immediately noted how bright the interior was. 2 sides of the cafe are floor to ceiling windows, offering a wonderful and serene view of the outside. A third side flows into the library which brought back so many fond memories of studying at the local Barnes and Noble. I had my first flat white and learned it was a latte sans milk foam. I'm not a big latte girl but can appreciate a well made cup of coffee. To really get a sense of their coffee, I ordered an espresso and found it had the perfect balance of bitterness and acidity. While I did not have the opportunity to try their food menu, the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Came here for a working lunch last Thursday and was immediately impressed by the stunning atmosphere of Bluestone Lane. Filled with a plethora of natural light, gold accents, faux plants and soothing shades of blues and greens, I instantly knew I was going to like this place. Despite the space being large for a cafe, the tables are tight and there is not a lot of space (I do not recommend coming here with a laptop). My colleague and I both ordered the wellness flight ($10) (matcha, tumeric, beetroot) lattes. These were really tasty and fun to try, but not necessarily something I have to have again. For lunch we ordered the rainbow bowl ($16). This bowl came with lentils, half an avocado, roasted carrots, beets, feta cheese, a poached egg and some sort of sauce. While the bowl was gorgeous, it was honestly a little too healthy for my liking and not filling enough for the price. There was an option to add chicken, so maybe I should have done that. His brother, Nick, was working in Wall Street, doing an MBA, and missing his old coffee shop back in Australia where he could chill for a few minutes a day. So, they opened a shop in NYC, using only word of mouth advertising, just like back in Melbourne, and months later, the brothers were both resigning their day jobs for this opportunity. Bluestone Lane is one of my favorite coffee shop chains, so I was super excited to see that one was opening up on the ground floor of the recently renovated West End Library. Walking in, I immediately noticed the high, airy ceilings, the sun-soaked south-facing windows, and the lush greenery, from the 20+ potted fiddle leaf figs to the countless varieties of succulents and monstera-themed wallpaper. More than any other Bluestone Lane I've been to, this location truly feels like an oasis in the city. The pastries here are much better than those at some of their other locations - the almond croissants are flaky on the outside yet soft on the inside and generously filled with buttery almond marzipan. Their famous avocado smash, served with tangy feta, cherry tomatoes, and a drizzle of olive oil, is delicious, though it'll set you back $13 (and if you add an egg, $16). Prices are generally on par with what you'd find at an upscale, trendy cafe in DC. The drink selection is quite extensive, including hot and cold Milo, flat white, long black, a juice selection and "wellness lattes" that blend either matcha, turmeric, or beets with almond milk. I usually order their flat white or their iced latte and love both, and one of my friends is a huge fan of their matcha latte. I find their blend of coffee to be flavorful yet less acidic than at other coffee shops, resulting in a smoother drinking experience. Aesthetically, I also love that they don't stir the milk into the iced latte, so the coffee sort of drips down into the milk in beautiful tendrils. The baristas take a lot of care in preparing each drink - even my takeaway coffees have perfectly formed latte art. Clearly, Bluestone is a hit with the neighborhood - lunchtimes are always bustling, and even at 9am on a cold weekend morning, there was about a 20-minute wait for a four-person table. Walking through the library, I've also noticed several Bluestone coffee cups and pastry bags sitting beside library patrons. As a result of this popularity, there's quite a wait for takeaway coffee at peak hours - about 15 minutes. All in all, Bluestone Cafe is a lovely place to grab a leisurely, visually pleasing, healthy brunch or lunch, and has become a compelling reason for me to stop by and "study" at the neighborhood library. (Note: this location doesn't take LevelUp yet, but the cashier said they'll be installing it soon.) read more

This creative architectural building, which is also a part of Westend DC public library has really become a landmark here in the community. This glass building has really shed the light into the whole dining area in Bluestone Lane. Like many other people would agree, the lighting definitely plays a critical role in the visual impact of foods. Again, the transparent appearance of the restaurant really lures crowds into the coffee shop. We ordered the eggs your way and the breakfast bowl, which both are just average and standard breakfast that you might be able to get them somewhere else. The eggs your way, which is a piece of toast with the scrambled eggs on the top. For people who are starving, this dish might be a little bit small. There are some optional add-on side dishes. The breakfast bowl, which is mixed vegetable and fruits. This dish is definitely a healthy meal with a great deal of nutrition. The portion is pretty decent. Perfect for people who are on their diet. However, the average serving time is 30 mins and above during rush hours, so if you are in a rush, this place might not be ideal. All in all, their foods are average, but the dining atmosphere is definitely worth a visit. Perhaps for a cup of coffee? read more

There seemed to be quite a wait on Saturday morning to sit down and grab breakfast but I will most definitely be back to get food.
