I'm a huge fan of their iced magic which is two shots of espresso and just a small touch of milk; the espresso is very present and isn't as diluted like a latte would be. They have fantastic coffee drinks to choose from. I do want to go back and try their Aussie iced latte which is vanilla ice cream mixed with cocoa and milk; almost like an affogato. This place was a good stop in! A friend and I were walking all over the city and desperately needed a pick me up which led us to this new gem. I love Bluestone Lane... in Australia, Los Angeles, and other areas in SF. But this one on Sutter St. has to be - HANDS DOWN - the worst Bluestone Lane location. The service is consistently bad. They're either confused, condescending, or rude, or a combination of all three. I ordered something so simple - a Matcha + Smoked Salmon toast on Gluten free bread, with a smear of avocado INSTEAD of cream cheese. They would not do this. The insisted on giving me an avocado toast with salmon on top. I said I do not want a lot of avocado. I just want a little bit since the gluten free toast is so dry. They assured me it would be just as I asked. I reminded them again that it needed to be gluten free. They dismissed me and said "yes, she knows". I order, then want to use my rewards at the register. 3 people could not figure out how to do it. They finally just gave me my matcha and I waited for the toast. The matcha was barely hot, but I let it go because they all seemed frazzled even though there were only 2 customers in the store. I walk all the way back to my hotel, open my food and I have an avocado toast with GLOBS of avocado with a tiny amount of smoked salmon on top... on toast that is NOT gluten free. So the whole thing is going in the garbage. They're lucky I didn't eat it because I have a severe allergy to gluten. What a waste. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time they messed up an order. The last time I was in there, someone else was complaining about some kind of mix-up. And on top of it, you can't call the store to try to have it rectified. read more

Unfortunately I had to wait 15 minutes for a not very good cappuccino. I've had great lattes/cappuccinos from another Bluestone Lane before, but this is the kind of place where they steam your milk without any care. On my way to work I saw this cute coffee shop filled with people inside. I let a few more days go by and then weeks and finally I thought, "you know what, you deserve a pastry." I walked into a nearly empty space and was happy I did not have to feel rushed in case I had questions. But I know, you know, i came in with the intention of grabbing a chocolate chip cookie and that's what I came to do. To my surprise, the chocolate chip cookie was perfectly baked to a crisp on the outside and mushy on the inside. What sold me was the sprinkle of sea salt that made my mouth water even more. My only regret is that I didn't buy two. Tip for whenever you visit, come early in case there's a huge line from the hotel coming in. 10/10 I recommend. read more

This place really does not have their stuff together. It is obvious the owner is not paying for enough employees. There is one person making drinks and she seems to just not pay attention to who is waiting, and i had to wait 15 minutes for a cold brew while others got served. The stars are all for the service & I tried the matcha latte- great reviews on the substitutions available and additions on the app. The banana toast is good. The egg is pre made but it's not bad. The website to order through inkind was having some issues when I arrived, so I suggest pre ordering to avoid any confusion, as technical issues can be stressful while you're in line. They also don't take cash, which as a customer I wish they did, but as a food service business, I can understand I am sure they have their reasons for not taking cash. The service is good, they are really trying their best & it's not their fault for the tech issues on the website. I do like the Bluestone app it self. I wonder if I should just transition to that instead of inkind, it's been much better doing that . I think this is a great place for a smart casual breakfast or lunch. read more

This was the only establishment near union square that was open in the early morning and had a matcha latte. There's a kiosk to order your drink too if you didn't want to stand in line. When I was there, there were 2 people ahead of me and I had a question about the menu so I stood in line, which went quickly. I got a matcha latte, which was perfect for the morning. The matcha is earthy at first, but you can add your sugar free sweetener to your liking after receiving your drink. Overall a great place for a quick drink by Union Square. read more

This Bluestone Lane outlet (I say outlet because it is a pretty small shop, compared to some larger ones in LA, and elsewhere) offers quick service, on-point drinks, and healthy and rich-enough foods alike. The wellness lattes are nice for when you do not want caffeine, you don't want water, and you desire a lot of flavor (albeit at a steep price point!). Expect to spend $20+ if you are dining for breakfast or lunch with a specialty drink. The sidewalk seats aren't great, but hey it is a seat. There are half a dozen chairs inside and you can often find room to sit and eat a quick lunch. There is a nice common restroom shared with the hotel down the hall. Go to any other location!! I love love love bluestone lane and always recommend it to my friends in sf. We usually go to the fidi location but that ones closed on weekends. Price is the same for avocado toast and salmon toast, but the portion size is almost half :( Bread is cut more thinly, and the toppings were scarce. Will definitely not be back. read more

I've never heard of an Australian-style cafe, so decided to stop in one morning. I ordered a flat white, not really knowing what to expect. At 9:45 a.m. the pastry case was decimated so I chose the only savory item left, some kind of egg tart that turned out to be a mushroom bacon quiche. I recoiled when to quiche rang up at $7-a lot for such a small morsel--but felt a little embarrassed to decline at that point. I was a little surprised when the barista handed it to me in a paper bag straight out of the case. I asked if it could be heated. "Not really. Um, maybe I could put it in the panini press?" she replied. I took a seat, and took a bite of my quiche. After that, the barista said, "Hey, I think maybe I can put that in a pan." Heating food after someone's started eating it seemed unsanitary and I didn't think a pan would heat the quiche evenly, so I declined. Unfortunately the quiche was cold as if it just came out of a refrigerator, the eggs were mealy rather than custard, and the mushrooms were not discernible. I deeply regretted buying it. The espresso in the flat white was fine--gotta love an adequately pulled shot!--but I wondered how this celebrated Australian drink was different than a latte. Googling revealed it's a matter of proportion--so ordering a large flat white (to fit my commuter mug) was akin to ordering a large cappuccino. They don't really exist. Seems like, through my own ignorance, I have yet to experience a flat white even now. The "flat white" latte was passable, though. read more

The vibe in this cafe is great, I'm totally in love with it! PROS: -The coffee is great and the jam + butter toast bar, extremely simple, made soooo well. -The strawberry jam is spread on thick. Plus, it's paired with butter and the thick-sliced multigrain toast was an excellent! -The takeout box is so cute AND it prevents the jam from getting all ruined because the box height is sufficient for the toast to sit comfortably in it. CONS: -Not a con, but the only thing I was a bit confused on was the waste receptacles... there were two but no labels and I was unsure of what was supposed to go where. read more

Not the best place :/ There was a very long wait, they seemed to have a lot of online pick-up orders they were catching up on. There was no coffee menu in view. I waited for about 15 mins in line to order, and found a small QR code at the cashier, which I could only see when it was my turn to order. By then, it's too late to take a glance at it with a line waiting behind me. I quickly ordered an almond croissant from the case and a latte. The latte was average, and the almond croissant was crunchy and sugary. Was not very happy. On a more positive note, the decor was very cute! read more

I haven't tried this place/franchise before but it was very convenient at the hotel so I went twice. The multigrain bread they use for their avocado toast and salmon toast I've ordered is amazing. I would want a loaf of that bread to take home. I like the stuff they put on the bread and the options you can choose. The Aussie coffee with ice cream is great too. The idea of getting your cream and ice for a coffee that way is delicious. Unfortunately you can tell how understaffed this place is. It was a busy Monday morning and the poor guy was by himself to take orders and then make them. This was out of his control, but the business should take some responsibility in getting people staffed here. So unfortunately I ordered a poached egg, so it wasn't properly poached but I can't fault the guy since he was alone. He was nice and asked if it wasn't done right he could redo it, but you can see that the line of orders was piling up. Also it would be nice if they had a printed menu or even the QR code to scan for the menu directly, but you had to look up the menu on the phone via search or they'd show you their iPad of their items available. read more

I love the aesthetic of this place - kinda obsessed with their paint job actually. The service is also super nice (although, lots of people working and not many customers - but I think they're just relatively new). Also, great and convenient location for me :D Ordered a large iced latte and a banana almond toast. The bread is too thick and doughy for almond butter. It's kind of a chore to chew on. Redeeming factor is that packaging is cool. My toast came in a slide out box! However, it seems we can't post boomerangs anymore :( Also, the large latte just seems like more milk more than anything. We had to come back here before we left the city. The avocado toast with the prosciutto was so tasty. It's has limited seating. The only thing not making me give it a 5 starts was the staff. They were nice to us but was very impatient with the DoorDash person picking up mobile orders.If it was me, I'd help the Dashers so they could get out faster and give customers more room.
