Chatz was right down from my hotel (the Clancy) and there are SO MANY coffee options in the city that I said screw it...I'm just gonna walk to this hole in the wall. Then again, who am I kidding...I love a good hole in the wall. This spot did not disappoint. The white mocha was yuuummmy and so were the sandwiches. We did return the next day as again it is super convenient and the guy working was so nice and sweet. I'm not gonna say it's the best I had but a solid B in customer service and food for sure.

This is THE best spot for coffee and breakfast in the morning. Quality: 5 Value: 5 Service: 5 Ambience: NA (takeaway only) This is the definition of a little "hole in the wall" cafe owned and operated by immigrant small business owners. This is 100% the place we should be spending our money. Not only is their banging coffee like half the price of Blue Bottle / Philz / other corporate options, but they also have absolutely top quality breakfast burritos AND bagels AND sweet baked goods. Chatz has literally anything you could want out of a morning coffee run, and it's inexpensive, and the owners are super nice.

Cute, tasty, hole in the wall, sandwiches, burritos, coffee, and nice hard-working people. I think they made my breakfast burrito fresh from scratch. I uploaded a couple photos for 2024.

Calling this a coffee shop is a stretch to say the least. It's merely a kiosk with severely limited hours of operation. That's probably why it's taken so long to give it a try even though I've been working in the general vicinity for years. I stopped by when I noticed quite a crowd of customers forming around 8:30AM (see photo). They looked like serious caffeine addicts (...you can just tell, y'know), so I thought I should give it a try with a medium cup of coffee which was pretty much at a Peet's price point. Smooth and not tongue-burning hot. It went especially well with the yogurt cup I bought with fresh berries and granola (see photo). There were baked goodies as well, but I just needed something to replace the usual cottage cheese with pineapple chunks I buy as part of my routine at Walgreens up the block. It was only later when I checked them out online that I found out they roast their own beans and sell quite a few varieties of coffee. It made me want to come back and try a latte at least when I can afford the calories. COFFEE - 4 stars...a smooth cup of joe (...and a nice yogurt cup to boot) AMBIANCE - 3 stars...gee, it's a stand SERVICE - 4 stars...quick and attentive TOTAL - 4 stars...stands out among the caffeine-fueled competition

The shards of metal at the bottom, notice also the extremely tiny shards.

I used to think this place was great, Its on my way to work and I go about 3 times a week or more. I usually get a simple bagel with egg, cheese and avocado, veggie burrito with a large strawberry protein shake. Today I went and bought all three of these item, for my breakfast and lunch. Was drinking the shake when my throat started to become itchy, did not think much of it and thought it was just one of my allergy symptoms. When almost at the end of the shake something got stuck at the end of the straw and I look and it was a 2 pieces of metal shards at the bottom. Not only that, there were tiny silver shards also. I took pictures and went back there at the end of work about 1:50 pm as I got off early and went to speak to them. Like usual it is the men and the woman at the coffee shop, I show them the shake bottle and explain that is was at the bottom of the shake, the men took it check it and threw it away without my permission. But I was not worry for I already taken pictures, he checked the blender to see if the blades where broken, it was not. Then he said it might be the ice for they bought ice from a vender since their ice machine was broken. He said it might be the ice or the ice machine that the shard could have come from. I communicated I am worry for if I potentially swallow some some shards and if I get sick from the shards damaging my stomach and throat. And for him to check the ice to make sure it is safe. He said he was sorry that happen and he will take full responsibility if i get sick or if something happen. I mostly love this place except of what happened today. I hope I will be fine and nothing happens to me because I would rather have my health than get sick and involve the law or messy procedures.

Coffee is average. The breakfast burritos need some help. Tortilla is often soggy and in poor condition.

They explained that the flight includes an espresso shot, espresso shot with milk, hot coffee, and iced coffee. I hadn't had a straight espresso shot before, so this wasn't for me personally just because it was so overpowering. I enjoyed the other three though. Like the majority of SF, parking is difficult to locate. I was dropped off nearby the location. There is indoor and outdoor seating; I was able to grab an empty spot late in the morning on a weekend, but I don't think seating is always readily available. It's not a huge space.

At 11 am on a Sunday they were out of their best- black sesame Kouign Amann and the Raspberry Almond Croissant, which I took care of by paying a visit to Juniper bakery (sister business) later in the day. The Mocha with the house made nut milk fell flat. It needed something. I am not a fan of syrupy coffees and appreciate the more purist approach but this one just didn't do anything for me. The chai latte which I would never order was actually the best chai latte I have ever had, it was smooth like silk. Maybe I just had the wrong coffee order. Besides that, got the hot chocolate and the coffee tasting. I was surprised there was no explanation provided with the coffee- I figured it's all Honduran but an overview of some sort would have helped. I enjoyed all the coffees in there except the latte. Will visit again, earlier in the day so they are not out of their best sellers and try a different order.

They used a strawberry cream top instead of a puree, which I actually enjoyed. It added a nice creaminess to the drink, and the matcha was very smooth and strong. It worked well together. I also tried their double hojicha, and while I enjoyed how nutty and strong the hojicha was, I did find it a little bit grainy. I wish it was a little smoother like the matcha was. I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me. Overall a very solid matcha/coffee option in SF. They have a beautiful interior too, perfect for catching up with friends. Servers were sweet as well!

But Katsu is really becoming the new hype of the day for Japanese food, following the Sushi, Ramen, Japanese Curry, Katsu trend. So I came in with a critical view. I feel like Yoshoku in general may be next but I yet again digress. The box sandwich came in a cute little box. The inside was packed so I couldn't get a chance to fully appreciate the cafe, but the service was nice though the pay line may have moved slower than hoped. I'll say this. This is "the" best katsu sando in the bay. The katsu is crispy, but little on the softer side. But this hardness matches perfectly with the absolutely tender, soft, juicy pork wrapped inside. I'm looking at the menu again and it all makes sense. The pork has been in shio koji, making the meat ever so tender while adding the subtle but complicated marinated flavor. The cabbage is plenty, but not over packed to take away from the main Katsu flavor. What really perfects it for me, was not only the sweet and savory katsu sauce, but the mayo with dash of I think a karashi mustard. That slight tingle, the perfect kick gives a powerful awakening of flavor that really sets the it apart. This is art, an artisan. Culinary art is the refuge no raging rampant AI slop "art" can ever hope to touch. Until the day we get some cyborg implant to our brain into gustatory, olfactory functions. Even then, I don't think any tasteless tech bro are hopeless to create anything unique or beautiful.
