I don't understand how they can claim to have the "best sushi in Tampa" based on the sign out front. To put it bluntly, this was lower quality than most grocery store sushi -- and I've genuinely had much better sushi from grocery stores. The only things I enjoyed were the edamame and the matcha, which are both fairly simple to prepare. Even then, the tea we ordered was borderline cold. As for the sushi itself, everyone at our table had the same issues: the rice was hard and dried out, there was far too much rice, and the pieces were so oversized that they were difficult to eat in one bite. The flavor overall was disappointing, and nobody at our table finished their sushi because it was simply not enjoyable. The ambiance also felt off. There was very limited seating -- just two tables cramped into a corner -- and the surrounding area felt somewhat sketchy when we arrived. In terms of service, the staff were friendly, but inattentive. We repeatedly had to ask for basic things: silverware, soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger should have been provided with the sushi without prompting. Overall, I'm sorry to say this was a very disappointing experience and not somewhere I would return to or recommend.

I was attracted to this place because they have pretty good happy hour deals! Buy one get one and even on the weekends which is huge! I ordered to-go which was a very easy process. I will also say that they charge an extra 3% for credit card so if you don't want that added, bring cash or a debit card. Overall, I was fairly disappointed by the food because I had high expectations with all the good reviews. We ordered the spicy tuna, Big boss, and Tampa Bay Raw roll. The rice on each roll was dried out and didn't taste very fresh. The texture is off-putting and made it hard to get through the rolls. The spicy tuna roll was fairly average - similar to sushi you would get at fresh market or Publix. The Big Boss had a lot of fish but the dried rice and stretchy seaweed texture was throwing me off. Also, the kewpie mayo is a little too overpowering and takes over the entire flavor profile. The Tampa Bay roll was the best of the 3 rolls, it was good with lots of fish but still probably not something that I would go out of my way for.

In area and craving sushi, decided on this little hole in the wall and it did not disappoint. The seared Tuna tataki was our favorite but we didn't eat anything that wasn't outstanding. And even better, we stopped by at Happy hour and got a discount on our BOGO hand roll. NOTE: This is a BYOB establishment so come prepared.

When I tell you this place is fantastic, it truly is! This spot is a hidden gem in the Tampa Bay Area and I need more people to know about it! The food is incredible, the service is out of this world, and the vibes are top notch. Everything I tried is so incredibly fresh and I love the fact that it's BYOB so you can drink whatever your heart desires while eating-- with no corkage fee which is . You can tell that a lot of time and effort is put into their creations and with the way everything tastes, you need to check them out!

BluWave Sushi did not disappoint!! This gem is a place where you can most definitely find the best sushi and vibes. The staff were phenomenal and interacted with their guest the entire time. I was given a complimentary cucumber salad which was light and refreshing. My main dishes were fresh and OMG so delicious. I had the dynamite mussels and Tsunami Roll. Both of my plates were cleaned in no time. I love how they encourage you to BYOB to enjoy with your meal. I tried the Lychee Japanese Soda for the first time and it was delicious as well. I can't wait to come back and tell my friends about this new spot that I've tried. Kudos to the chef

ow! Everything was amazing--the service, the food, and the ambiance. BluWave is smaller than I expected, with limited seating, but I actually liked that because it felt more personal. I love the sushi here! The White Truffle Salmon is a must-try. I see why it's called BluWave--they have a unique blue wasabi sauce. The sushi and sashimi are high quality. The service was also spectacular. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and checked to see if we liked our food. Since raw fish isn't for everyone, it was nice that they asked. Overall, a great experience!

Immediately gonna start this off by saying the spicy tuna makimono roll is delicious. I also got the same roll with spicy salmon that was good too but the flavor on the tuna really stood out. The ginger was delicious as well. The staff was super sweet and fast. The ambiance is very cute. it's an intimate space with bar seating and a booth area for a larger group

Loved this restaurant! We sat at the sushi bar and the chef was really engaging and nice. He gave us a delicious seaweed salad to start and the White Truffle Salmon which was AMAZING. So fresh and unique flavor. For our sushi rolls we had the BlueZilla roll and they added blue sauce to the roll which makes sense for the name of the restaurant. It was absolutely great!

Such a hole in the wall, I'm so lucky to have finally tried it. Place is tiny inside and yet my friends (party of 7) decided to take up all the seating inside. Staff was beyond friendly to accommodate us and provided greats service. There's still a cute bar too to fit about 10 or so. BYOB is honestly so fun and clutch to have no corking fee. They provided a complimentary cucumber salad to start which was delicious! For rolls, highly recommend the dragon roll - I got mine with salmon. So fresh with a perfect crunch. My friend got the bluvilla with eel (which I usually don't like) and I absolutely loved it! Only downside I found through the whole night is that the rolls weren't served with ginger :( Fair prices, unique small business, to die for sushi. Will definitely be back!

Super cozy restaurant with a sushi bar with an amazing staff & even better food!! The Pork Gyoza & Krab Rabgoons were great appetizers & then the hand crafted sushi rolls blew us away. We also took advantage of the BYOB and staff was awesome enough to chill my wine for me! My partner is not a huge raw/sushi person and enjoyed every bit. We will be back!

Definitely the best sushi in Tampa, so fresh and delicious flavors! Friendly staff, especially Amanda, who also gave wonderful recommendations!

I went here today for dinner and it was a blast. Also, We basically tried every sushi there and we brought our service dog there and they were super friendly they offered him water and service was fast it is a small place so seating was kinda of rough but it was still a place where we made memories I highly recommended this place for anyone who has read this They're sushi is fresh and none of it was bad bring your friends and family to have a blast. Also it is BYOB also known as Bring your own bottle which is one of the main reasons we came we had a blast and a good night. read more

This new-ish spot rivals Yokos as top sushi in south Tampa IMO. Super cool cozy vibe. Staff and proprietor were very friendly and fast with the service. The truffle salmon starter is a must try. Used that leftover sauce instead of soy to dip my rolls! Prob call ahead for rez as seating is limited. read more

Not bad but not great. I won't be back but I'm a little pretentious about my sushi. There was a lot of rice on the rolls, which was good because it was filling but the ratio to other ingredients made it too much for me where the other flavors would be overpowered by the large amount of neutral rice. and a lot of crab stick and mayo on a lot of the rolls. read more

This is an update to my previous review. Sadly BluWave is under new management and it's apparent. We have NEVER had an issue with our food, whether dining in or takeout, until today. The quality of the food was subpar and you could taste it. We ordered our usual rolls (Yellowtail Makimono, Tampa roll) and tried a new one (Hurricane Roll). We knew something was off based on the size, the smell and just the presentation of the sushi. Not only were the rolls stale, fishy and messy, but you could taste the dishonest and wasn't fresh. We were told they were under new management and had changed the menu, which is really unfortunate because the previous owner would have never allowed this food to be served. What used to be the best sushi in Tampa is now the worst! We paid a little more because we knew we're getting quality food and now the prices remain the same but the quality is not. $84 and we could t enjoy any of it. Will not be going back and I Highly recommend you don't either. read more

The BEST, freshest sushi I have had in Tampa. Run, don't walk. The customer service is super friendly, it's quick and no fuss to sit, order and pay (we came around 8:30 on a Sunday evening). Karen was super friendly and kind. She really delivered on my request for extra ginger and I was very happy. :) Toro roll and samurai rolls were our faves. Easily recommend this for a delicious sushi date at the bar. Will be back often. read more

My husband and I try a new sushi restaurant every Friday, and for the most part, we haven't ran into any bad meals until last night. Do NOT get the Spider Roll, which has soft shell crab in it. Usually we love soft shell crab rolls, but this place keeps the shell on. Which is bonkers to me, it was fishy, and hard to chew. This roll had literal claws in the roll, & the claws had 0 meat in them. We also got this other roll, Crystal Addiction, I believe was the name, that was stuck together, had an overload of Mayo on it. We ordered 4 sushi rolls for take out, and ended up only eating 2 of them. In addition to that, none of the sushi came with wasabi. I'm cool if it costs extra, but let a girl know! Super disappointing, especially based on how the reviews are. If you go here, skip the spider roll & crystal addiction. The Mexican roll was good though! read more

While my wife was out of town recently, I was looking for sushi and stumbled across this place. I was impressed and more importantly, disappointed that I hadn't gone there sooner! Don't let the outward appearance (strip center) fool you. It's the real deal. Their salmon nigiri was generously sized and buttery, just as it should be. I also tried one of their specialty rolls, and it was great too. I didn't know when I dropped in that it's 100% BYOB, but the waitress took my order and told me she'd hold my table for a couple minutes while I ran down the street to buy a couple of beers. Nice girl! I'll definitely be going back! read more

I was told my to-go order would take 20-25 min for 3 rolls. 45 min later and i'm still waiting. Rude staff, low food quality, expensive prices. Not worth the time. Can't sit more than 15 people in the entire restaurant. I will never go back. Couldn't even get a spoon for my miso soup. Absolute insanity. Crab Rangoons ice cold. Shoulda just went to trader joe's or Publix for the same quality with less of a hassle. read more

Just dined here last night and they did not disappoint! Arrived at 6.45 and were seated immediately by Karen and Isabella. (Both of whom are SUPER Friendly and attentive), checking on us and making sure we had adequate Ginger, Wasabi etc. The Apps are great, we had the Mussels, Seared Tataki, Crab Salad and the Veg gyozas (which were Air-Fried to PERFECTION)! If I had air fired those they would come out like rocks. We then moved on to the Sushi rolls...we did not know but if you buy 4 rolls the cheapest roll you order if FREE! We started with the Dancing Crab, then the Volcano (someone on here said it's the best Volcano they ever tasted)...This Volcano is REALLY GOOD! We then had the Sea Hulk which was interesting and ended with the Lollipop. EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. We have no complaints about this Restaurant! Also, NO CORKAGE Fee and if you know us, we are REALLY excited about that! Chef Andrew is Pretty creative with his rolls...he says next time we come he will prepare us a special roll not on the menu...with lemon zest! We will be back! read more

Can't say enough great things. The scallop volcano roll, Tampa and Mexican roll were fresh and full of flavor. The gyoza and spicy garlic edamame were to die for as well. Can't wait to come back! There's also a really cool set of oversized chopsticks that make for great photo ops and a stunning large sushi art piece on the wall handmade by the owner's mom--such a unique and personal touch. Since they don't have a liquor license, they allow BYOB with no corking fee, which is such a great perk. The owner is an absolute vibe--super spunky, fun, and cool. Not only did he come out to greet us, but he also served us and even helped with recommendations. The sushi chef was amazing, creating dishes that were fresh, flavorful, and incredibly generous in portion size. I tried the Bluzilla Roll, and let me tell you--it did not disappoint.
