I don't understand how they can claim to have the "best sushi in Tampa" based on the sign out front. To put it bluntly, this was lower quality than most grocery store sushi -- and I've genuinely had much better sushi from grocery stores. The only things I enjoyed were the edamame and the matcha, which are both fairly simple to prepare. Even then, the tea we ordered was borderline cold. As for the sushi itself, everyone at our table had the same issues: the rice was hard and dried out, there was far too much rice, and the pieces were so oversized that they were difficult to eat in one bite. The flavor overall was disappointing, and nobody at our table finished their sushi because it was simply not enjoyable. The ambiance also felt off. There was very limited seating -- just two tables cramped into a corner -- and the surrounding area felt somewhat sketchy when we arrived. In terms of service, the staff were friendly, but inattentive. We repeatedly had to ask for basic things: silverware, soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger should have been provided with the sushi without prompting. Overall, I'm sorry to say this was a very disappointing experience and not somewhere I would return to or recommend.

I was attracted to this place because they have pretty good happy hour deals! Buy one get one and even on the weekends which is huge! I ordered to-go which was a very easy process. I will also say that they charge an extra 3% for credit card so if you don't want that added, bring cash or a debit card. Overall, I was fairly disappointed by the food because I had high expectations with all the good reviews. We ordered the spicy tuna, Big boss, and Tampa Bay Raw roll. The rice on each roll was dried out and didn't taste very fresh. The texture is off-putting and made it hard to get through the rolls. The spicy tuna roll was fairly average - similar to sushi you would get at fresh market or Publix. The Big Boss had a lot of fish but the dried rice and stretchy seaweed texture was throwing me off. Also, the kewpie mayo is a little too overpowering and takes over the entire flavor profile. The Tampa Bay roll was the best of the 3 rolls, it was good with lots of fish but still probably not something that I would go out of my way for.

In area and craving sushi, decided on this little hole in the wall and it did not disappoint. The seared Tuna tataki was our favorite but we didn't eat anything that wasn't outstanding. And even better, we stopped by at Happy hour and got a discount on our BOGO hand roll. NOTE: This is a BYOB establishment so come prepared.

When I tell you this place is fantastic, it truly is! This spot is a hidden gem in the Tampa Bay Area and I need more people to know about it! The food is incredible, the service is out of this world, and the vibes are top notch. Everything I tried is so incredibly fresh and I love the fact that it's BYOB so you can drink whatever your heart desires while eating-- with no corkage fee which is . You can tell that a lot of time and effort is put into their creations and with the way everything tastes, you need to check them out!

BluWave Sushi did not disappoint!! This gem is a place where you can most definitely find the best sushi and vibes. The staff were phenomenal and interacted with their guest the entire time. I was given a complimentary cucumber salad which was light and refreshing. My main dishes were fresh and OMG so delicious. I had the dynamite mussels and Tsunami Roll. Both of my plates were cleaned in no time. I love how they encourage you to BYOB to enjoy with your meal. I tried the Lychee Japanese Soda for the first time and it was delicious as well. I can't wait to come back and tell my friends about this new spot that I've tried. Kudos to the chef

ow! Everything was amazing--the service, the food, and the ambiance. BluWave is smaller than I expected, with limited seating, but I actually liked that because it felt more personal. I love the sushi here! The White Truffle Salmon is a must-try. I see why it's called BluWave--they have a unique blue wasabi sauce. The sushi and sashimi are high quality. The service was also spectacular. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and checked to see if we liked our food. Since raw fish isn't for everyone, it was nice that they asked. Overall, a great experience!

Immediately gonna start this off by saying the spicy tuna makimono roll is delicious. I also got the same roll with spicy salmon that was good too but the flavor on the tuna really stood out. The ginger was delicious as well. The staff was super sweet and fast. The ambiance is very cute. it's an intimate space with bar seating and a booth area for a larger group

Just go.... Delicious, fresh, unique sushi rolls. Very quaint establishment and wonderful staff. BYOB. We ordered the Tampa Bay Raw Roll and Dragon Roll and could not decide which we preferred. We can't wait to come back.

Loved this restaurant! We sat at the sushi bar and the chef was really engaging and nice. He gave us a delicious seaweed salad to start and the White Truffle Salmon which was AMAZING. So fresh and unique flavor. For our sushi rolls we had the BlueZilla roll and they added blue sauce to the roll which makes sense for the name of the restaurant. It was absolutely great!

Such a hole in the wall, I'm so lucky to have finally tried it. Place is tiny inside and yet my friends (party of 7) decided to take up all the seating inside. Staff was beyond friendly to accommodate us and provided greats service. There's still a cute bar too to fit about 10 or so. BYOB is honestly so fun and clutch to have no corking fee. They provided a complimentary cucumber salad to start which was delicious! For rolls, highly recommend the dragon roll - I got mine with salmon. So fresh with a perfect crunch. My friend got the bluvilla with eel (which I usually don't like) and I absolutely loved it! Only downside I found through the whole night is that the rolls weren't served with ginger :( Fair prices, unique small business, to die for sushi. Will definitely be back!

Super cozy restaurant with a sushi bar with an amazing staff & even better food!! The Pork Gyoza & Krab Rabgoons were great appetizers & then the hand crafted sushi rolls blew us away. We also took advantage of the BYOB and staff was awesome enough to chill my wine for me! My partner is not a huge raw/sushi person and enjoyed every bit. We will be back!

Definitely the best sushi in Tampa, so fresh and delicious flavors! Friendly staff, especially Amanda, who also gave wonderful recommendations!

I literally traveled 40 minutes ONE WAY just to come here and I don't regret a single thing. From the second we walked in we were greeted by the friendliest staff. We laughed with them while we sat at the bar and watched them make the most delicious sushi. THE SUSHI WAS SPECTACULAR. I loved the variety of rolls and I really loved that their menu allows you to choose which dish you would like to top some rolls with instead of choosing for you. I love coming to new sushi spots so that I can see all the different rolls and this place nailed it with the variety. I love the decor and how modern inside is. The painted wall was a beautiful touch! read more

I ordered takeout and the food just wasn't that good. I can't think of much to say. As you can see in the picture some of the food is Burt and the rolls are just so small for the price. Service was okay I just picked it up so not much to say on that. The inside is pretty small maybe the food would have been better if I ate it there. read more

We tried BluWave for the first time tonight and loved it. We walked in around 8 pm and were able to sit at the sushi bar. We got miso soup, ginger salad, and the following rolls: Tampa bay raw, dragon, samurai, and the chef's special. Everything was delicious but the standout items were miso soup, chef's special, and dragon with salmon. The staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend. read more

I wanted to love this place because it's so close to my house and I love sushi. The first time I ordered takeout, I got home and had the wrong order. The second time I ordered, I preordered at 6:15 for pickup at 7:30. Arrived at 7:30 and waited for 25 minutes before being told it would be another 20 before my food was ready. For takeout. That I had ordered 2 hours earlier. I get that things happen, but this restaurant has 10 seats max. The icing on the cake was that the server/girl who worked at the counter was rude and condescending when I asked to cancel my order. Can't rate the food, but service should get zero stars. read more

Tonight was our first time. On our way, I checked out the reviews and I was pumped. Don't worry, the hype is real! We started out with the Truffle Salmon, one of their monthly specials. WOW! Perfect amount of truffle and so fresh. Next we got the Sreaming Salmon, Tsunami, and Lollipop rolls. only regret is that we couldn't try the rest. We will be back!! read more

Stopped here for some sushi after seeing it on TikTok. The service and ambiance are great but theres not much space for normal seating other than the bar. I got the Westshore roll and the flavors were ok but I was disappointed at the temperature since it comes with fried shrimp, it didn't seem freshly cooked, since the whole roll was cold I also think there needed to be a little more sweet chili sauce. My bf got the bang bang chicken roll and Mexican roll, and they were good. Overall a decent sushi spot for a quick bite. read more

We tried BluWave recently and first and foremost we had some of the best service I've had anywhere. Rachael was super energetic and passionate about the food, and all of the other staff were incredibly friendly as well. In fact, my primary drive to leave this review was because of the fun we had with them. BluWave is very cozy, only a handful of seats inside. In our case it made the experience more intimate however it could potentially mean long wait times on busy days. I wouldn't recommend large groups. We ordered the edamame and I don't know what kind of magic they used to make such a standard dish so good but we ended up needing a second order! Overall everyone was happy with the sushi they ordered. It all came out in a giant boat which was a little bit tricky logistically but did make for a cool presentation. If you are looking for a fun little sushi spot don't miss this one! read more

Super cozy restaraunt with high quality stuff. They really know how to make the experience that much better with little details, like a black garlic soy sauce flavor. Also, they went the extra step to provide options to different cuts of bluefin tuna meat, all with different fat percentages to fit your taste. We had an amazing experience (and meal) at BluWave. The staff was attentive, quick,super nice, and hospitable. We sat at the quaint little bar since it looks like there is not much seating (and we did go on a weekend night so that's on us), we ordered our rolls, and were not disappointed with the taste and the serving size! We also ordered the truffle salmon and that blew us away. The fish is so fresh, and the chef really knows their flavors. I was pleasantly surprised with our bill as well, as I was expecting to pay more for the food we were served, but it was very affordable considering the quality of the food we just ate. I'm BLU da ba dee da ba di for this Sushi! Sorry I just had to bring back the Eiffel 65, lol. Made a road trip to Tampa to check out the newly opened BluWave Sushi and it did not disappoint. To the right is the CRYSTAL ADDICTION - Rice paper roll and choice of Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail. Avocado, Cucumber, Crunchies, Green-Leaf Lettuce, Cabbage topped with Spicy Mayo and Wasabi Roe. Quite the name! I think I felt a food 'high' after eating.. lol jk To the left wasn't on the menu, Chef's choice. What I can say is that it was highly delectable! Also had the Seaweed Salad in the back, can't go wrong with that, yum. The artistry at this establishment is beautiful. Very cozy place, highly recommended! read more

We have been here several times. I cannot comment on their takeout as we usually eat in at their sushi bar or table. My son loves their Mexican roll. Our favorite is the samurai roll, which you can customize with either yellowtail, tuna, or salmon. I love that you can order at your table and the sushi comes out fresh and fairly fast. It is also BYOB so we enjoy bringing a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with the fresh fish. We also really enjoy their truffle salmon which melts in your mouth. It is located in an unassuming plaza on Westshore but definitely worth a trip. Service is great. read more

Plenty of parking along the roadways, and in the nearby parking lots for the neighboring Water Works (city park) and Armature Works (food hall and social venue). They had valet for years but I'm not sure they still offer the service. The venue is huge... large red, brick building with outdoor sitting and a bar but they also have outdoor art to be impressed, a pond with fish for kids to admire, overlooking the Hillsborough River and lovely gardens (and all of it is maintained impeccable). The interior is industrial and a bit masculine but the views outside and more exhibits of art balance the atmosphere. Love the exposed kitchen and the glass wine enclosure under the stairs. The menu, as it was explained to me, was inspired by the indians that inhabited this area originally. I've been here numerous times but even with this latest visit, all my visits have been limited to lunch. Some of the dishes I have truly enjoyed: NATIVE CHILI: Not the typical ingredients but excellent nonetheless... rather than just beef and bean (as I am used to normally), this chili had alligator, boar, venison, duck, ground chuck and cranberry beans. CLASSIC BURGER: Ulele offers so many delicious dishes but sometimes a simple player is the way to go and the burger here does not disappoint... great balance of meat to cheddar cheese and those pickles are on-point. WATER WORKS MEATLOAF: I grew up loving meatloaf even though no one in my family made a good one (always ordered in restaurants); trying this one sets the bar to a new level... Such a sweet owner and literally everything was delicious. The crab rangoon - this isn't the crab rangoon you're used to. It's got a curry flavor to it and is just amazingly good. As for the food itself, it was average at best, and for the price, it simply wasn't worth it. The fish didn't taste particularly fresh, and the amount of time it took for a single hand roll to come out was excessive. The quality and service just didn't justify the cost. And don't even get me started on the soy sauce droppers. Requiring customers to handle and repeatedly squeeze shared droppers at the table felt unnecessarily unsanitary and off-putting. Especially in a place serving handrolls. Overall, between the slow service, lack of hospitality, cramped seating, questionable table-side condiments, and underwhelming food, I can't recommend this place. There are plenty of other options where you'll get better value and a more welcoming experience.

We opened with the **tiger shrimp tempura** -- candied walnuts and a creamy honey aioli. Smaller than I expected, roughly half-dollar sized, but tender, sweet, and generous in portion. The candied walnuts and honey aioli combo leaned sweeter than a classic honey walnut shrimp, with a little bang bang shrimp energy minus the spice. Trying to pace ourselves for dessert, we kept the rest light: the signature crispy rice (Wagyu and spicy tuna versions, split two apiece), The Great White (escolar), and the lemongrass beef lollipops. The Great White was well-balanced and delicious. The lemongrass beef -- sliced NY strip wrapped around a lemongrass stalk with ginger soy -- was solid but not a standout; the lemongrass flavor was subtle and the chili barely registered. Fair warning: it comes out well past medium-rare since it's wrapped and cooked that way, and the server didn't ask for a temperature preference. Good, but not something I'd reorder. The crispy rice was tasty but not a personal favorite -- the Wagyu and spicy tuna toppings themselves were great, just not sold on the crispy rice base. The standout of the savory round was the lobster Wagyu roll -- lobster and Wagyu tataki with a duck pâté aioli, sort of a surf-and-turf sushi roll. Pricier than the other rolls, but the combination justified it. Definitely ordering that again. **Now, the main event: Caviar Sunday.** Our server mentioned this particular caviar brand is a favorite of a certain pop star's, which was a fun detail. The tower itself was a showpiece -- diced and quartered dragon fruit, lychee, blueberries, crispy rice balls (first time trying those, loved them), plus passionfruit and ube sauces on the side. It came with turon (Filipino plantain egg rolls) and vanilla ice cream, essentially a build-your-own sundae kit with caviar mixed in. Caviar with ice cream sounded strange going in, but the salt-sweet balance worked. Genuinely unique, and I'd order it again without hesitation. It's not cheap, but it's roughly half the price of their standalone caviar entrée for the same amount of caviar -- so relatively speaking, it's the smarter way to get it. Service was excellent throughout -- good pacing suggestions so we didn't over-order before dessert, and when we couldn't finish the tower, our server packed the leftovers carefully on ice so we could enjoy round two at home. My one regret: ordering a double espresso with dessert. Good on its own, but it clashed with the tropical, ice cream-heavy flavors -- that one's on me, not the kitchen. Sunda remains a place I'll keep coming back to.
