Beware. I hired Mayflower and they sent BMS their Sister company. When I hired Mayflower/BMS for moving from San Diego to Colorado. I requested a firm delivery day. I was guaranteed my stuff would be delivered on the 29th as I am disabled and still recovering from back surgery. I cannot lift or bend. I flew people in and put them in a hotel to help me unpack. Diane guaranteed that my stuff would be delivered by the 29th. The moving company in Colorado had my belongings set to deliver on the 29th however, they never received my three crates. My belongings Where not delivered until June 1st. I paid people three days and they had no work plus hotel, Mayflower, Uni group and BMS refuse to reimburse me for my Financial loss for those three days. Big corporation wins once again. They only offered me 400 and refused me any additional compensation as the contract says 100 a day even though I was guaranteed delivery the day of the 29th and informed them it's very important because I'm flying people in and paying them to help me. I have documentation and emails however they said there's nothing they will do. I will not win this fight and he ended up accepting the $400 as I had no other choice. They also on my inventory sheet after my stuff was picked up, went in there and put damage on most of the belongings which was false. Never even knew that was on there to dispute it in the beginning. The movers lied so be wary of that as well. They genetically just put damaged scratches on most of my items to cover their own ass. Hopefully they will cover the damage. I do have witnesses, but it's my word against theirs. Think twice before hiring this company and read everything very carefully and make sure you get a copy of the paperwork after it leaves your house as description of items was added afterwards I would not recommend this company to anyone! This company is absolutely horrible. My stuff was supposed to be delivered over a month ago, and now it's been 2 months with nothing. I still don't have my furniture, and they won't give me any updates at all. The only thing they've told me is that they "found mold" on 5 of my items, which means my belongings have been sitting in some damp, nasty place this whole time. On top of that, we have a 1-year-old who hasn't had any of the things he needs because of this. It's been 2 months of waiting, calling, and getting nowhere. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! As a family who moves often, Bekins has been the absolute worst company to pack us out. We moved from North County San Diego to the East Coast this summer and they treated our household goods like straight TRASH. They did a virtual walk through with me and counted our Rubbermaid tubs. On pack out day, the packers ran out of the paper to wrap the tubs with and started EMPTYING my bins into boxes WITHOUT PERMISSION. They had THREE DAYS to pack us out and were in a rush to finish us in one. In addition, they broke a brand new flower pot of mine and tried to hide it. There were many Christmas decorations broken in the transfer from tub to box as it was all over my garage floor once packed out. They even packed a REAL PLANT! ‍ None of our furniture was tagged, and our count sheets were NOT accurate whatsoever. We have quite a few things broken and we're not even half way unpacked. The things that were packed in boxes weren't even labeled properly, and our boxes showed up like someone beat them with a bat. This is my FOURTH MOVE and our absolute worst experience! Simply stated, ANY of the Bekins Wheaton companies are going to give big smiles and tell you the will handle your LIFE of boxes they just dump everything into, nothing labeled unless by you. These are CONTRACT EMPLOYEES. Not what I was promised. 4+ hours late. One partially alcohol smelling. If less than 500 miles they take your belongings back to a warehouse rebox (a no no in my book)they use NO PADDING BETWEEN WOOD, laid thinks against antiques ie ladder agains juke box, scratched ALL wood and glass cause laid it against other pieces (I have photos) and then said under a 500 mile trip they contract it out. Nowhere did I see anything referencing another company, only BEKINS. Everything is damaged.The WORST experience. And they knew I was ill. Called when I was on the road and threatened if I didn't pay $2500 more they would not deliver and sell my things. Never again Bekins read more

I have already left a review about my stuff not being here. Our stuff FINALLY arrived yesterday and to add on to our stress from this horrible and useless company, we have a few missing items. Our entertainment center, our grill, and the most important my $1000 MacBook. I don't know how stupid and oblivious they are to think we just wouldn't notice, but this has definitely convinced us to take legal action to the max. Not only that but our couch came broken. And to make it worse we cannot reach ANYBODY. Literally zero help. No one is answering us. We are trying to set up our claims for items that got molded, and for what we are missing, especially the laptop !! And no one is available to answer apparently. Let me start by saying I used this company twice for coast to coast moves...generally speaking the East Coast teams always did better than the west Coast teams. However overall this company is the worst!!! The first move was decent I only lost a few items which they never recovered and only three items were damaged. I received my stuff within 7 days. The customer service was acceptable but not great. The second move was HORRENDOUS!!! (West Coast team)I don't even know we're to begin. The initial customer service to get a quote was disorganized and poor I should've just back out then. I was shuffled around to multiple "service reps", the first rep after initial conversation NEVER returned my calls. I had to call the business but and go through two more representatives before I got someone who I thought knew what they were doing. Then for a week two weeks prior to my move I couldn't even get a hold of these people in phone or email. Only after I asked to speak with a manager did someone called back. The day of the move they only sent two people so no one was watching the truck or my stuff sitting on truck as they loaded & this was downtown San Diego with a crap load of homeless people & on some loads the movers just left my stuff on the curb!!! The reason I was given for only two movers was because they only had to pack furniture. I had to call a friend to come watch my stuff to make sure no one stole it. Obviously, they damaged multiple items. One guy put his knee right through the back of my couch cause he chose to lift it by himself. I was told by multiple reps that I could leave the clothes in the drawers LIES!!! The movers last minute made me remove clothes cause the claimed the furniture was too heavy!!!! Maybe if they had more movers they wouldn't have complained.... Note I have high quality furniture which is normally heavy to sustain a lifetime. My stuff took a month to arrive two days past the quoted range. I was missing multiple items again & was never recovered. My furniture was filthy when it arrived. My dresser was chipped in multiple places ( cherry wood) The ongoing customer service was horrible. What I can say is you never know what you going to get with this company. Do not trust Bekins Moving Solutions for your move. I purchased their full replacement value insurance on my move. They both packed and moved my belongings causing more than $10,000 in damage. They denied my damage claim without explanation. I took them to small claims court and after both sides presented all evidence, the judge found Bekins was responsible for the damages to my property and ordered Bekins to pay $9,999.99 (the small claims court limit) plus legal costs. Despite an impartial judge telling them that they were responsible to pay for my damages, they are still refusing to pay and have now filed an appeal of the verdict. Bekins does not honor the insurance their customer bought and paid for, and still refuses to pay even after a judge told them they were responsible for the damage. Take your business elsewhere and save yourself the months of aggravation they have put me through. read more

Horrible!!! We're a military family that moved from San Diego to Baltimore Maryland. Bekins was hired by the military to just pack our stuff. Their packing was the worst I have seen, and we've moved multiple times. Lets start with packing- They had absolutely no organization. Upon unpacking we have so many things missing- some things have randomly appeared in random garage containers with Christmas decorations we kept in storage. Its like they ran out of boxes and decided to randomly pack our stuff (without our knowledge) in already designated storage container containing with snow gear and Christmas décor; Like who does that?? I made it perfectly clear to them that anything in a plastic storage container was not to be emptied or filled with house items. Thanks to them we had to purchase a new dining table bc all the hardware is missing. We had to contact the company of our crib to locate new hardware for purchase bc that is all missing, making our baby not be able to sleep in her crib for months until we could locate the hardware. Most of our nice frames with family pictures and diploma have been shattered. They did not individually wrap or protect ANY of our our frames, they were all bunched and squeezed together. small picture frames were randomly thrown into boxes with other items, no tissue protecting ANYTHING. Our living room TV was shattered, HORRIBLE packing, no use of any "paper" or bubble wrap, to say the least. It was wrapped with a box. They didnt even use a TV box. Literally the most laziest, half assed wrapping and boxing job ive ever witnessed. STEER CLEAR! First off, Bekins is owned by Wheaton Van Lines and the two seem to have some serious communication issues. We had a rep (Samuel) come out to our house and give us a quote for moving two households, we lived in a guest house and then my Grandparents lived in the main house. I showed him around and told him every item we were taking from the garage to the bathroom, just to ensure we could get as close to the estimate as possible! DID NO GOOD! We paid them to pack us and move us, full deal! We were told the guys would come the day before our actual move and pack us, was supposed to take 3-4 hours. They sent two guys to move two houses! It took over 8.5 hours!!!! How do you send only two guys to pack two entire households?! Then, the next day was moving day! We again were told it should take approx 4-5 hours! WRONG! They came at almost 9:45am and did not leave our house until almost 6pm! When they arrived, I went through the house and told them some things that were to be left for the new Owners and to NOT pack them! What did they do?! Packed them! Had to call our rep and ask them to bring the items back! They left all of our parts for reassembly of furniture cribs, etc... on the front porch in a box! My Mother noticed before they drove away and asked them about it! They forgot! They were going to leave with all our parts behind! Then there is delivery day! Our delivery dates were from the 4th to the 7th! Our furniture did not arrive until the 10th! The driver told us when he arrived there was absolutely NO way he could have met that deadline and that Bekins should have known that! On top of it all - the guys who were unloading informed our driver that legally in the state of Colorado they cannot reassemble cribs due to safety restrictions!! How on earth does a company that does business throughout the entire United States not know this!? So, my husband and step-father had to reassemble the crib. Final problem! Our furniture was delivered two weeks ago and I am still waiting for the final bill. I was told by the driver that he would submit the paper work within 48 hours of the final delivery! It has been almost two weeks and I still do not have my final bill! I have called numerous times to Wheaton and given the run around that the driver had not mailed it in yet, then the accounting department has not processed it yet, blah, blah! The real kicker for me was when I was told the driver had not weighed the truck before he picked up our stuff!?! WHAT?!?! They are supposed to weigh before they load the truck and then after to charge you the correct amount. How can I be charged the accurate amount if you did not weigh the truck before loading our stuff?! We ended up taking over 1000+ lbs in a Uhaul and towing that with us from San Diego to Colorado. I told the rep on the phone, we better be under weight, because we took over 1000 lbs off that original estimate. Long story short, go with another company! Bekins was on the cheaper side of all the quotes we received! And clearly, you get what you pay for! We should have gone with the one that was a little more expensive! Everything with this company is third party contractors! The drivers and the helpers! By the way, the guys they hired to move our stuff in (not the driver), reeked of alcohol! "We pack it as we find it." Doesn't matter if it's a pile of toys with a tablet mixed in. If they find it like that, its going to get packed that way and your stuff will get broken. So far I am up to well over 2000 dollars worth of damaged goods. Everything from a 50in flat screen TV that was improperly packed and secured to a beyblade stadium that was tossed in a box and made to fit. We are a military family and this company done screwed up big time. The whole team that came out and packed my 2 bedroom, 2 bath house managed to get it done in 7 hours. On top of the their pack it like we found it mentality, some of my stuff has gone missing, PS3 games, dvds, CDs, kitchen supplies. They messed up my washer , shattered a tablet screen and the TV screen. Lost a glass table top, broke some of my kitchen stuff. Terrible terrible dealings with this company. We obtained three estimates, with Bekins being the highest by more than $1,000. The main reason we decided to use Bekins was the estimator/salesperson Sam Doyle. From our first meeting to all further communications from our estimate to the delivery of our belongings to storage in Phoenix, Sam was pleasant, professional, easy to talk to, down to earth, easy to understand, and very responsive to our questions no matter the time of day or day of week. He went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. Bekins should commend Sam for his knowledge and skills in customer service. He made what could be a stressful process somewhat pleasant. Second, we would like to commend the two guys who moved the belongings to the truck, Richard and Dennis, as well as our driver, Oscar. All three were extremely polite and positive. They performed their work efficiently and carefully. I would be happy to have them handle my belongings should I ever move again. They are terrific representatives of the Bekins brand. The only concern I had with this Bekins move is that when we booked the move, we were supposed to move our belongings directly in to vaults to be transported to Phoenix for storage until our house is built. Just before our day of move, local Bekins management made the decision to load our belongings on a truck to be moved with three other families, then loaded into vaults upon arrival Phoenix. This resulted in an additional handling, thus a greater potential for damages. read more

These guys packed up all the stuff we weren't planning on taking and left so much of our stuff behind that we planned to keep (family photo albums, clothing, furniture, dishes, etc.) They did not pay attention to what we wanted and packed our things very poorly; many of our belongings arrived either broken or messed up. Look at my Yelp.. You guys packed up my things and you broke my lamps which you lied saying you didn't have them down. I posted all the pictures for everyone to see. My couch is ruined I didn't ask for a bee one I asked for it to be repaired. You guys broke every floor lamp I owned then said you didn't move it however y'all took them and returned them broke where I took pictures of everything. I then sent a form of my damages which didn't even come to Three hundred dollars and y'all sent me a check for $96.00 dollars.. my table is broke I wasn't even asking for that , my couch didn't ask for that several other things but you couldn't own up to your shit. This also happened right before the shit down and pandemic hit. So I had to purchase these things again. Much later. I'm gonna sue the company for all my ruined furniture I was just asking for the minor things but my dinner table, my couch and other things was messed up. I have white couches they didn't NOT wrap my couches so when they came back the couch was dirty from being in the moving truck and storage. So much other things but I asked for the things I needed ASAP and just asked them to repair something instead of the replacement that should have taken place. This company you shouldn't use. We had everything organized to move on Saturday morning. Samuel Doyle came to our house a week ahead for the estimate. We agreed on the amount and date/time. We got the invoice, shared our credit card info... Friday morning the dispatcher called to confirm that the truck would be at our house on Saturday morning. Later that Friday at 4:30pm we receive a phone call that the truck driver had an emergency and had to leave town. The move was canceled. I was told the dispatcher would call me 30 minutes later to see what they can do for us. The dispatcher called at 6:15pm on Friday to tell us that they can move us the following week, and to offer compensation. They did offer compensation ($300 off), hence the two stars not one. I do understand that things happen out of the ordinary but I was surprised that they didn't have a back up driver... I expected them to be a serious company. I didn't want to wait and see if next week would work for their one driver, so I found another company that agreed to move us on Sunday. It's been a month after my move, and with a lot of follow up on my part, I thought I'd share with the Yelp community. I will say that someone from Bekins did reply to my Yelp message so we could connect, but as I told them, actions spoke louder than words, and in this case, I'd rather have my move related damage addressed and/or repaired rather than rehash what I've already posted to Yelp. Bekins did pay for my wall damage in-full. They paid a total of $30 for my broken bed ($250 to repair) and TV (replacement was $500). One month later, I am still waiting for an update on the sofa. But to be honest, I'd be shocked if I got more than $10 for a Pottery Barn couch. Let this be a cautionary tale, spring for the insurance. If despite this negative review you decide to move forward with Bekins, I would just say go with your gut feeling. In my case, my gut feeling when I got my items delivered was that the crew was stoned out of their mind and should not be moving my stuff. They smelled of weed, and I saw them smoking out front. I get it, it's not an exciting job, and it's just weed, but at the end of the day, these guys were reckless, and all of the damage occurred during the actual move in (they set-up my tv and knocked it over, my bed was set-up and the movers picked it up, went in different directions, and snapped the brackets). My experience in moving from San Diego, CA to Walnut Creek, CA was extremely frustrating. Everything was great from the beginning, from getting my estimate to planning my move. They even showed up on time to deliver. What happened after that was terrible. They did not deliver several boxes! they lost over $3,000 of my personal valuables which I will never get back. I purchased claim insurance and submitted a claim, which was denied in it's entirety. They say I signed off on all my belongings before the drivers left. There is NO WAY you can go through all boxes and items with the drivers, as they want to leave IMMEDIATELY after dropping off items. I wrote on the forms "DID NOT TAKE INVENTORY". I am glad I did because I'm taking Bekin's to court. WHen I wrote their San Diego office, the receptionist (Honey) said "before you write negative reviews online, think about "what's right!". If we have to pay you for lost items, it comes out of our driver's pockets, not ours". Wow, what a company. BEWARE! I am writing the BBB to complain as well. read more

I am thrilled to be thrilled with a moving experience! We had a more complicated move as we were combining households, meaning Point A to Point B to the final Point C - all located downtown. When I grew up in the Bay Area, Bekins was king; despite the negative Yelp reviews in San Diego - I have still heard good things about their performance down here so I decided to give them a call to see what their rates were like. The first phone call with an account manager (David Doyle) almost sold me because he was the first intelligent person I had spoken to in all of the 5 other companies I had called. Totally informative and not pushy. He was familiar with the downtown area and specific buildings. He even predicted needs that I had embarrassingly not yet even considered. He came out for an in-person estimate - I hadn't realized the benefit of having an estimate, up until that point I had just been quoted per hour pricing. When David came out, he of course quoted the hourly pricing, but the way that it works is that the estimate is capped. So if they go over the mutually agreed amount of time, you're not on the hook for unexpected expenses! Oh and total cherry on top: they bring wardrobe boxes to load your hanging clothes from your closet at no additional cost. WHAT a time saver!! In all of my moves, this was the first time I not only felt reassured that all of my needs would be catered to, but also that the movers had an incentive to not run the clock on my expense. We had an amazing trio of guys - Sal, Tony & Tyler worked alongside each other extremely well. They were courteous, on time, speedy and cautious of all of our belongings & valuables. I would recommend them for any moving needs-personal OR business. I have already recommended them. I hope I'm not moving soon, but if I do - I'm calling them! After nine years in San Diego, my husband's job relocation, left me behind to sell our condo and make all moving decisions. Bekins was the second bid I received. Sam Doyle, sales representative, was competing with another agent who had 40 years experience. I found, however, that he was not handicapped by his youth. I liked that he documented everything on his laptop. Items were catalogued reflecting my descriptions rather than leaving it to his memory. Even though his original quote, based on weight and packing charges, was considerably higher, my sense of confidence in the job being done professionally far exceeded the price. Sam stayed in contact with me through the entire move and was always available for answering concerns. The good new is that it ended up being an appreciably lower fee once all was said and done. I used Bekins for my third move with them (the first two being out of state moves). This time I contacted them for a local San Diego move in December 2015. After my move, my IT specialist found that my laptop showed up in a remote area of San Diego. I alerted the Encinitas Sheriff's department - and after help from them, a warrant to pursue the IP address location of my laptop from AT&T, my laptop was recovered from the house of one of the subcontractors employed by Bekins (the subcontractor company being "Keep It Moving"). I was never informed by Bekins that a subcontractor would be used, and the day of my move a Bekins truck showed up. The gentleman that had my laptop (one of the subcontractors) was confirmed by an eye witness to be one of my movers (I was working in my office that day). I also found out from the detective on the case that this is the second case of reported theft by this subcontracting company. I used Bekins because it was a national company with a good reputation, and I had already had two successful, long-haul moves with them. I contacted the Chula Visa/El Cajon office, and they were extremely dismissive of me once I had recovered my laptop, and they initially refused to give me the name and information of the subcontracting company. PLEASE BE WARY. I would recommend another company. I typically have a policy of only writing positive reviews on Yelp, but given the criminal nature of my experience, I wanted to alert the public. read more

Moving is always a major hassle and there are always things that go wrong. It's how the diversity is handled that counts. I've moved a lot and I've found that it comes down to the guys on the truck more that whatever company is hired. I've had good and bad. The Bekins guys (or rather freelance the guys that Bekins hired) all had a great, positive attitude and that goes a long way to a successful move. There is usually at least one slacker in the group but not this time--they guys were great. And they worked very hard which we greatly appreciated. My only gripes are with the leader of my group. On packing day they didn't bring enough boxes so they were trying to convince my wife to go buy more boxes because they said it would be cheaper for us. But we had already paid for the boxes to be supplied by Bekins. This was quite suspicious to me. The second issue I had was when I asked him if he could take some our empty boxes at the end of the day. He told me he needed to charge me $50 for the extra labor even though his guys had already started loading them into the truck before I even asked. This was also suspicious to me. If only I were given the option of zero stars. To begin with, I was never contacted after my goods left the warehouse nor was I assigned a move coordinator; (2) I proactively contacted Bekins myself on 9/17 to inquire re: status; (3) After being quoted a delivery date of 9/17 I made arrangements to take 9/18 off of work. After wasting ~ 5 hours on 9/18 awaiting delivery I contacted Bekins and was informed that my driver had made a mistake, given false information, and that my delivery date would be 9.24, almost a full week later than I had been told. They gave me several names and numbers for Wheaton Worldwide Movers. I don't know if this is a sister company, or a subcontractor, but the contract I signed was with Bekins which means they should own up to the problems. All I received was a verbal apology and a phone number for Wheaton. I did speak with Wheaton and after some research they made a token "good" faith gesture of $100. I pushed back and they upped it to $150. Based on my pay rate, I feel this is inadequate compensation for my time, lost work productivity, and mental aggravation. read more

Do not recommend this company to others. Packers arrived on time and seemed to work efficiently. However, now that we are unpacking we are missing hardware for many of our items (most of which shouldn't have been disassembled to ship in the first place) and have to try and replace all of these one-off pieces. For example, the packers disassembled a wooden stool that was clearly glued together--they ripped through the glued crossbars for the sole purpose of packing it in smaller pieces. I then watched as items fell out of their semi onto the ground, only to be reloaded onto the truck with seemingly no concern. Additionally, many of our boxes are filled with their garbage and, not making this up, one had a half-eaten burrito in it. I understand this may be a bad experience with the particular packers who loaded our goods, but they did not leave an overall positive impression of the company. read more

The quote is not a quote, it is the amount you will owe no matter how far off the fella who does the estimate might be in terms of weight or how much you might end up doing yourself in advance of the move. The quote is a final price! So DON'T do any of the work yourself if you dare to hire these maniacs. EXCEPT, move your own photos. They packed a closet of our valuables they were asked NOT to pack, and it included our photo box. THEY LOST IT! Even worse than that nightmare is that the company adds insult to injury by compensating you about $250 for a lifetime's worth of photos. I cried and cried over the loss of that box. Also, other boxes of items went missing. Furthermore, furniture was damaged, and not just one or two unfortunate pieces. These movers are amateur cowboys with no respect for possessions. That said, as with all things, there's the good side: they were nice. Go figure! We liked the guys. Of course, we had no idea what they were doing to our stuff in the truck! So truly, BEWARE! Our move was a heartbreaking nightmare! Oh... also, "insurance" isn't really insurance. It is some established in-house amount the damage control person says she is using to try to make things right. I was hesitant to use Bekins after reading your reviews, but a friend recommended it highly--said the guy that helped him was great. Unfortunately the man my friend used was no longer there. But his replacement, Mark Glazier, was very pleasant and helpful, so I went with Bekins after all. (It would have been one star except for Mark's helpfulness before the move.) I packed myself and the move went well. It was after the move that was the problem. First, I noticed on my VISA statement that they had charged me $2545 not the $2029 on my contract. When I contacted Mark about the overcharge, he said there was a mistake on their end and it would be corrected within 3 to 4 weeks. Well it is now February, four months after, and Bekins has still not credited my account for the $516 overcharge. I finally had to contact VISA to dispute the charges and get a temporary credit until Bekins responds. Moving is enough of a hassle without dealing with this sort of thing! read more

Received numberous moving company advertisements. We are moving from San Diego to the Midwest. Bekins Card caught my eye. Receive 50 FREE boxes.$125 value...Conditions apply. A very professional representative company rep came to give me a quote. All together we have 6 pieces of furniture. Everything is boxed and stored in a storage unit 1 mile from our home. I needed only 6 large mirror boxes to package a clock, 2 mirrors and a couple large oil paintings. The cost $171.47. SORRY free boxes do not apply to any large boxes..... a little misleading!! Bekins was by far the most expensive quote I received but Carlos, Sales consultant assured me everything would be handled with care. Professional Representative....professional service! They suggested we call them later to pick up all the packing supplies- best for all parties. Problem is, I've called for two weeks. Nobody will come get these boxes or even begin to set up a time to do so. I've spoken with multiple people and left multiple messages. Upon getting estimates from other cross country movers, Bekins came in with lower estimates compared to their competitors. They were also able to accomodate my move date. BIG MISTAKE. There were pricing discrepancies of at least $400. When I reached out to call their office in El Cajon to ask if can speak to a manager, NO ONE called me back. I even asked the salesperson to have his manager call me and I was not given the courtesy. My move was unfortunately during the start of COVID-19 stay at home order and none of their management or sales extended empathy towards my situation of not being able to fly from San Diego to Washington, DC. Just on the lack of empathy and care for customers during this pandemic, I would not recommend Bekins at all. read more

Daryl D., Laurel MD -- Beware of Bekins! In March 2008, my husband and I came to Rancho Bernardo, San Diego area, to take our company's equipment out of storage from a Bekins warehouse. We have a small business that had a technology in the 90s that was ahead of its time, so we had to put our prototype plasma-based equipment in storage for several years. The day before we came to the warehouse, we had hooked up with a visionary partner in the Bay Area that wanted to finish the development of this equipment and market it. They were well known for introducing leading edge technology into the printed circuit board industry. However, when we got to the warehouse, we discovered that our equipment was outside the warehouse, in a trailer, and....smashed. Because we could not deliver the equipment as expected, the deal with our partner fell through. We learned that our equipment had been moved between warehouses twice before 2008. Somewhere along the line it was smashed. Bekins itself still doesn't know how it was damaged or exactly when. There was just a note scribbled on the inventory list in November 2004 concerning one of the three damaged sections. Bekins did not notify us before either move, so we had no opportunity to caution Bekins about proper protection of our equipment. After receiving no response from our claim other than a small token offer, our company finally took Bekins to court. In the trial in December, testimony was given by Chris Fultz, vice president of Bekins Moving Solutions. Fultz, president of the Orange County chapter of the California Moving and Storage Association (CMSA), testified that Bekins wasn't even abiding by the CMSA guidelines to notify customers 30 days before moving any of their stored items to another warehouse. During the early phase of the lawsuit, our attorney discovered that Bekins had some disturbing company-wide practices. Not only did they not notify customers to get their permission before moving their stored property from one warehouse to another, but they didn't tell them if they moved their property to a trailer with no temperature and humidity control and, most importantly, they never informed the customer if they damaged their property during a move. No matter how severe the damage was! Fultz testified, "It's really just common sense and it's common practice" when explaining that Bekins never informed a customer if it damaged their stored goods. The jury decided instead that this practice was fraud, and awarded compensatory as well as punitive damages in their verdict. The jury convicted Bekins of 1.) Breach of Contract, 2.) Negligence, 3.) Fraud, and even included 4.) Punitive Damages, a formalized judgment of more than a million dollars! However, Bekins immediately filed an appeal. Our company is still waiting for justice! read more

I'm furious at Bekins. I would give zero stars if I could. I am moving for a new job on fairly short notice. The Bekins salesman set me up with a contract and I thought I had my moving dates reserved. He apparently didn't actually place the order. A few days later Bekins contacted me and told me that their salesman had somehow missed a company-wide email and sorry, those dates were not available. The new, later dates put the end of my delivery window on top of my start date for the new job. Fortunately, I was able to make arrangements with small, independent company who works at short notice. I had chosen this company on the recommendation of a friend so they must get moves right sometimes, but they sure caused me a lot of grief. I will never consider using them again. read more

Horrible but somewhat comically ineptitude. Used them to move out of my house in San Diego, store my stuff and then deliver to San Francisco. The move out was fine, the storage was fine and the move in turned out ok, but the service was horrible. 1. I had a 4 day delivery window that I set-up 2 weeks ahead of time. I called the Friday before the week it was supposed to be delivered to see if they could narrow it down. Dispatch said they would check and call back. No call back. 2. Day of delivery they call and ask if they can deliver that afternoon. Fine, would have been nice for a heads up, but whatever. 3. Call and tell me that can't get to my house (later found out they are using a consumer GPS that didn't have truck routes) and need to transfer my stuff to a smaller truck (for $190 more) OR I can go rent a uhaul and they will move the stuff into the Uhaul and I can carry from the uhaul to my house. Yes, the actually suggested this. 4. I live on a truck route in SF, 30 second search on google confirms this. I call dispatch and am told they can't know this and their drivers and often in cities you need a permit. Ok, but do you need one in SF? NO and did they bother to check, NO. 5. Truck somehow miraculous appears and delivers stuff including a 3 legged dining room table. Driver doesn't apologize or let me know that they will make it right, first he triple checks the inventory to make sure I originally had a four legged table (REALLY!)) and then he proceeds to explain why it is not his fault. I don't blame him. In fact I don't care whose fault it is, I just want Bekins to make it right. 6. No help in filing insurance claim, but that is kind of ok. I would expect if it is their fault that Bekins would try to make it easy. 7. I write the general manager to provide feedback on the move. NADA. Haven't heard back. 7 Reasons to stay away. read more

We haven't even received our international shipment and we have received the worst customer service I have ever received. On Friday when I called them to schedule delivery, they didn't even know they had our stuff. We had to call the forwarding agent who called them and told them they had it. Then I called back and the first thing the lady who answered the phone said was that "this was her gig" like, this is what she said she had to do. She couldn't help me and I had to talk to "Jim" (who must be god because Friday he was the only one we were allowed to deal with and today, we aren't allowed to talk to him at all.) Anyways, on Friday, Jim said it would be here today and when we called today to find out what time, they had no idea we existed. So, it should come tomorrow sometime if we get a call this afternoon. On Friday, my husband was the only one who could accept delivery of the shipment and now the rules are changing and I can accept it. Go figure... UGH! I have never filed a complaint with a corporate office and I've already contacted corporate. I could go on and on about their customer service - or lack thereof. i just called their corporate office and because it's an international move there is nothing Bekins can do. Bekins did a great job with our move until the delivery. It was a rainy day, they were un-prepared and didn't have any cloths to put down to protect the carpets. They asked if we would go purchase carpet runners at the local hardware store, which we did at the expense of $161. They said we would be reimbursed. We weren't! Filed a claim which was approved, got an official letter saying the check would arrive in 30 days, that was 6 months ago. We continue to call and write emails on a bi weekly basis and we can't get anyone to call us back. They are totally shady! read more
