I've been waiting for months for this delivery. Was scheduled for yesterday. I called first thing in the morning as I had not heard from anyone. I left a voicemail message as there wasn't anyone available. Never received a phone call back. Then this morning I check status and it says they called customer for delivery and no answer. Which is a lie!! Never received a call as I was waiting closely to my phone all day and now they are closed for the weekend, so now I have to wait until next week! This is ridiculous!!! *This review is only for their weigh scale services* I did a personally procured move (DITY move) through the military and was in need of a certified weigh station to weigh my empty and full truck/trailer. I was having a hard time finding a current/nearby location that does certified weigh tickets. This place is right down the street from U-haul (not a sponsor), so rent your truck or trailer and drive around back behind the building, you'll see a big rectangle on the pavement. Park your vehicle inside that rectangle and go inside the dispatch office. It's a gray door with "Dispatch" stenciled on it. Tell the clerk you're doing a DITY move and whether it's an empty weight or loaded. They'll need your vehicle license plate/trailer license plate info. For active duty, weighing costs $5 (*cash only), regular price is $10. They'll complete the paperwork and you'll be on your way. If you're doing both empty and loaded weights at this location, bring your first weigh paperwork with you the second time so they'll make sure everything matches up. Both times I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Both times the dispatch staff were super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Some tips: -cash only! -it is a moving/storage company, so their priority is their moving trucks, first thing in the morning is a busy time for the scales with the big moving trucks, so you might want to wait until later in the morning or early afternoon to park on the scale to weigh your trailer or rental truck read more

We moved across country and had Sullivan come out to give us an estimate. After they came, we gave away all our pool furniture, large faux plants, other items that would have taken up a large amount of space on the moving truck. Even after we downsized, their estimation was so far off, it took two separate crews and trucks to come box up our things for a separate freight shipment. We were told to label the already packed boxes as "priority" if we needed them on the actual truck. We did so based off what the packers had labeled - which was a mistake on our part. We should have opened the boxes as we ended up with a box labeled "coffee maker" with an ice-cream maker in it, art supplies in a box labeled "toiletries", etc. I spoke to the original estimator who assured me they would meet their contractual delivery deadline of May 24. It's now the 31st and our shipment has been pushed twice - once to June 3rd and now to June 6th, nearly a month after we've moved. Be sure your things fit on one truck, do not agree to separate shipments, press the estimator to be accurate. Shipment finally arrived on 6/6. Nearly every single piece of furniture in this shipment was damaged in transport. Our patio furniture was chipped down to the metal, painted furniture rubbed down to the wood, legs of furniture splintered and scratched, holes in upholstered chairs... it was not properly wrapped and not properly transported. The lesson here is do not allow your things to be shipped by freight, overestimate the estimator and be prepared for damage. read more

I used Sullivan Moving and Storage in San Diego for my move to New Mexico. The process went well in the beginning but all fell apart when I received and unpacked my belongings. Just to note United Van Lines does the move out of state but Sullivan does the packing. I am extremely disappointed as several items were broken. Some I really didn't get upset about but two high end art and furniture were damaged. The damage is due to poor packing at the point of origin. On a specific piece , a table that is beautiful, two of the hand made wooden drawer knobs are broken off because it was wrapped in heavy paper and not a packing blanket. Other items were scratched, broken, bent and chipped. Now I have to go through the claims process.. I'm not happy. read more

The entire process was a nightmare except for help from Sarah. first, ka Kate comes out and gets inventory, I respond to her at least three times with items, big items she forgot, fridge, hammock, grill. I get a price of about $7500 Well come time for prepping for move, she ends me inventory sheet. guess what, none of that is still on there. I told her I emailed her a typed inventory, many message, she told me I was not being transparent. well.....turns out my emails were going to spam. There were two people I was working with and copied both. So there it was, I was transparent. I then write her bosses, she calls me and says I AM coming over right now I was like, no you are not, you make appt. So in total I spend at least 6 hours typing up inventory, taking box counts, and going to uhaul because I was just fed up. I am a very petite disabled veteran and I ended packing 80 boxes., tapes up, shrink wrap etc I went back and forth back and forth. I finally broke down all boxes, 8 shorty wardrobe, 6 wardrobe 4 flat wardrobe, 15 medium, 4 sports utility boxes, etc. she comes back with a count of 37 boxes THEN when the guys showed up, those wardrobe boxes with hangers I paid for, not there. He says he grabbed wrong ones and packed them in flat boxes. I told him to go to warehouse and switch them out. He didn't even tell me, I happen to walk in on him throwing everything in flat boxes and taping them up. I told them the only thing you need to pack is clothes on wardrobe boxes with hanger, televisions with sound bar and speaker.They still to this day have on there dish packing and stuff. So when they got here, supposed to unpacks what they packed clothes, shoes televisions OK, well I am on day 16 no household goods. I have spent thousands on supplies, hotels and have been sleeping on air mattress with no furniture for 6 days. I found out my stuff *which only filled up 3/4 of a 26 ft truck) didn't leave San Diego for 6 days!! The driver told me. Then it got here and sat at Guarding moving and storage for 6 days Right now the deadline is midnight on contract it is 2:00 still don't have my house. I paid for expedited delivery. I was told that barring any catastrophe, it should be there by 23rd at latest. Well, of course they did not honor that. I asked Guardian in Laverne TN to let me get people to come get it NOPE would not call me back and actually spread was today 10-2 not here, my contact at Sullivan can't even get them to respond! PAY SOMEONE to move your truck, rent it, hire two guys, have them drive straight there and unload it, drop it off and fly them back. Even if $2000, more, in the end, you will be better off. read more

Instead of parking in the street next to their customer's apartment, they decided to pull into the fire lane, blocking my garage and blocking me in. Mind you, had they parked at the end of the building and not blocked my garage, they would only be a mere 20 feet away from the home where they were unpacking. Completely disrespectful and LAZY. After they were alerted that they were blocking my entry and exit to my garage they just pulled right back in and blocked my garage driveway again. Your drivers have a poor attitude and were extremely rude. Where do you get off completely blocking someone else's entry and exit to their home with no disregard? If your drivers can't be considerate and walk 20 feet to and from their truck to the home they are unpacking in order to not block other people's garage entry, then perhaps you should consider getting new employees. read more

My husband spoke with Connie and scheduled the Sullivan Moving & Storage to come move our belongings while he was out of town. I was apprehensive about having strangers in my home without my husband, but DeShaun and Andrew put me right at ease. Their professional dress and demeanor was excellent. They moved my entire apartment downstairs, outside and into the truck WHILE it was raining hard. They never once showed a sign of frustration and kept a friendly attitude even being soaked. They came in, got the job done and left me feeling that my belongings were handled with care. Great job! I understand we're in a pandemic and businesses are doing their best but I'm not sure if this falls under that category. We recently Moved from San Diego to North Carolina, movers showed up very professional and kind , one would think everything would go smoothly but that was further from the truth . First our shipment was late, no big deal but no one ever contacted us to say why it was late or where it was, it was like pulling teeth to get information on where our house hold good we're , after being told 3 different stories we finally got our shipment 12 days late . We received only part of our shipment , and when asked where the rest was, we were told to file a claim. pictures can't be replaced and memories can't be either . They put my most expensive things in a couple of boxes, even though I repeatedly asked them not to. I overheard them talking about stealing some of my things, and when I confronted them, they didn't care. I also overheard them stating that they could steal from me because I probably didn't have pictures of everything, and since I was going to be putting everything into storage for awhile, I wouldn't know if anything was missing. I wanted to fire them, but I was in a bad situation and needed to get moved out immediately. Those boxes did go missing, and the things that they talked about taking were missing as well. Do not use these people. Also, they used an excessive amount of tissue to pack things, so there were a lot more boxes than there needed to be which cost me more money. read more

This morning, my driveway and garage were blocked by their mover truck that was not part of any business with me. It took over 30 minutes and many calls to get that resolved. Their drivers were nasty and very rude. It was their error. This is after past issues with them in which they destroyed an expensive item that was in their storage and was perfect when they took it into their storage and it was ruined by them as noted by them when they re-delivered it. The legs were ripped off, and other parts of it were literally hacked apart. They never resolved anything over this matter. Hopefully, their new manager who addressed this current issue with me will be helpful in resolving this older issue. read more

Used them to move to San Diego a year ago. Multiple expensive items missing, either stolen or broken. They made hardly an effort to look into this and were not compensated for the loss. How can a moving company lose a gigantic arc lamp and a 50lbs crystal rock, not to mention other pieces of furniture etc. DO NOT USE THEM. You will regret it! Let's just start with, if it hadn't been a government move I would never have dealt with this company. My daughter walked down the hallway of our house while these movers were packing up and one mover said to the other "I'm not fucking babysitting". Then he started calling for me, and when I appeared asked me "if I was ok?" As if illness or injury could be the only reason I'd let my kid roam down a familiar hallway that led to where her room used to be. They were astonished that we wanted them to transport our motorcycle, which was accurately and repeatedly mentioned on every manifest they had. They didn't fit it in the truck. We don't have a lot of stuff, and constantly are very far below our max weight allowance, even with a 750lbs motorcycle included. They crammed our belongings so tightly into that truck, I saw the box carrying our TV bow. And they still didn't get it all to fit. Very very disappointed. I know they make a good paycheck from the government serving military families, but between the rude workers swearing in front of my two year old and the inadequate room and preparation, I will never recommend his service. read more

I chose Sullivan United for my move from San Diego back to Washington, DC. This was a very positive experience and an excellent job done by Sullivan in pretty much every area. The estimation process was pretty quick and straightforward. Sullivan sent someone to my apartment to go through it with me and take an inventory of the items so they could produce an estimate. Their pricing was about 10% less then Allied who also put together a quote for me. The day of the move, the movers showed up first thing in the morning. I was impressed they sent three guys to do the move. Since my apartment had a flight of stairs and a bit of a long carry to the truck it was good they realized they would need another person. The guys were all professional and friendly and made pretty short work of getting my stuff loaded up. They also packed a bunch of glass from my TV stand and coffee table and end table. They quoted me that it would take 2-3 weeks to get my stuff out to the east coast and delivered. I was pleasantly surprised that it took only 12 calendar days for them to arrive with my stuff. The unloading process went smoothly as well. They ended up having a very long carry and three flights of stairs but the group was professional and didn't gripe much, although they would have been entitled to. They got everything unloaded in just two or maybe three hours which was impressive given how far they had to lug it. All of the glass items arrived unbroken and there was no damage to any other items. There really isn't anything I can complain about. When I moved from DC to SD the experience was an absolute nightmare compared to how smooth everything went with Sullivan. Not all movers are the same; these folks did a great job! read more

We used Sullivan Moving and Storage to move our daughters from her apartment across from USD to a new apartment in Del Mar. Our experience was first class from the beginning when Lindsay, our moving coordinator, gave us a firm estimate up front based on pictures of the items to be moved, along with an arrival time commitment. Josh and his crew showed up right on time, worked quickly, carefully, politely and efficiently to load all the furniture and boxes into the truck for the move across town. They used carpet runners and pads around the apartment to protect both locations from accidental bumps. Unloading when just as efficiently, including setup of the items that had to be disassembled. We moved a two bedroom apartment from San Diego to San Jose. The whole process went very smoothly. A person from the company came about a month before our move to estimate our needs and give us a quote. On the day of our move tree guys came to pack and move the whole place. They were very professional. Went on their job like a swarm of locust. The packed everything, labelled it accurately and had me sign off the sheet. They took great care in packing everything. They finished in 6-7 hrs. Our stuff reached us in San Jose in less than a week. The only issue with Sullivan is they dont give an exact date of delivery. They give an approximate window and only 24-48hrs before the drop will you know when you are getting your goods. They club your shipment with others. It makes business sense on their side but is a minor issue for us. Everything reached us as it was packed. We did not lose a single item. Not a single thing broke. We again checked every box against the sheet we had at pick up. We were very impressed. They also transported my car and that was also in the same condition. Overall good experience. read more

Age and limited number of friends to help me instigated my decision to hire professionals. Sullivan Moving gave me the lowest estimate and their estimator, Chris, was the most professional and helpful. He explained to me the whole process and gave me good advice that helped me be prepared for my move. I did all my own packing. The coordinator was in touch with me to keep me updated. On the day of my move, the men were very professional and friendly. They didn't even curse when the sofa and love seat were difficult to get through the front door. I hope Yelp members will consider the revised review. *** Original Review *** Our move was scheduled for Saturday 1/29/2011. We worked with Troy. Initially, felt that Sullivan/United was a good choice. They did an in-home visit and used an automated tool to inventory our furniture, etc. and provided a pretty competitive estimate. We shopped 3 moving companies, and the top 2 had similar estimates for labor/time - so chose Sullivan/United based on price (I'll note that we based our assumptions on paying the "not to exceed" amount of the quote.) Job bid was for 4 movers at 6 hours. (we moved 10 miles away). Timing was tight, we had to move on that Saturday and we finalized arrangements well in advance. Day of the move. 3 guys showed up with a truck. We got the "no way we can do this job in 6 hours at the not-to-exceed price" -- if you've read reviews on moving nightmares... you will find the common shake down. The movers show up and insist that you sign a new agreement, the customer signs under duress... and pays much more than they originally agreed. Pretty pissed at this point. Compared our signed estimate with their dispatch order. We contracted for 4-movers and 6-hours... they were dispatched for only 3-movers. (oh... and the movers complained that the truck was not big enough for our move, either) Contacted Troy via cell phone. Frankly surprised that he called us back. Piss-poor response from him. His main comment "we are a reputable company" -- no solutions... no way to get a 4th guy... nothing he could do. We told him we weren't signing anything "new" and that we would not pay more than the original not-to-exceed price. We got the virtual shoulder shrug. Not happy with this guy at all. Movers were great. Once they realized that they had been screwed by Troy... they seemed to buckle down and go to work. I was really concerned that they would take out their frustrations by doing a careless job... but they didn't. If you do the math... 4 guys and 6 hours translates to 3 guys and 8 hours. These 3 guys worked hard (and so did we) and we got just about everything in the truck they had... plust a few loads in our personal vehicles. They completed the job in about 8.5 hours and when they tallied up the bill it exceeded the not-to-exceed by $12. We paid it and tipped these guys $60 each for their efforts and attitude. They are the only reason I'm giving two stars. It's been a week. No follow up call from Troy. Nothing. Mistakes happen... it's how you handle them that sets a company apart. We used Sullivan to move our business on 9/6/08. The move was fine, but it didn't matter because one of the movers STOLE a cell phone. When they were leaving we caught 1/2 of the crew and asked them to empty their pockets but they would not. I am convinced that one of them had one of our employee's brand new cell phone. I reported this to our contact Fred and he said "sorry". That was not enough. I will never use this company again and I would strongly suggest that you don't either. read more

My family is moving from Fallbrook to Houston this week. I was scheduled to move the contents of my house today with United Van Lines but here I am surrounded by my unmoved furniture. When my girlfriend contacted the company for a quite, she was put in contact with someone named Kyle. He quoted us at $2340.00 for 600 sq ft of space which was what he insisted would be required having taken every item into account (boxed or otherwise). Fast forward to today: 3 skinny creatures in yellow clothing drive up in a truck, walk in awkwardly, and start wrapping furniture and moving things around. One of them sits down at my table after about 10 minutes of moving some things around and after flipping through some papers, decides that the total is now $33-3600 with no sensible explanation. He could barely keep up with his own excuses let alone try to explain to me why this wasn't fraud. First he tried to say that there were too many boxes even though we had exactly half the boxes we were quoted for. Then, it was decided that the boxes is bought at U-Haul were too big which was... ridiculous... finally when he could think of nothing else, "the furniture is heavy". When I call the office, some tired, disinterested woman tells me essentially that they're not willing to hold Kyle accountable or refund my deposit and somewhere in there, referred to a 3'x6' liquor cabinet as "oversized". Of course, I then told their people to get off my property. I will never have occasion to utilize these people for anything ever again but I do plan on making a good go of getting my deposit back and I will certainly warn everyone I possibly can away from this disgusting company. read more

Just had a very, very good experience with Sullivan for the packing out phase of a long distance move (San Diego to the East Coast, USA). The packers came (two guys, Ken and Kelly) early in the a.m. as promised. They were cheerful, polite, courteous and professional. We thought they'd be done before noon, but turns out we had more stuff than we realized! 99 boxes later...everything was packaged up securely. Sullivan also contracted out a third party to crate up a plate glass table top. Even the third party team was efficient, helpful and professional. I was really impressed with the care Ken and Kelly took packing up our antique, heirloom china and stemware, and various other irreplaceable treasures we've collected over the years. Update: After arriving in our new home, everything arrived safely, without a scratch with only two exceptions: A broken picture frame for a custom framed print and a broken heirloom ceramic bowl. The picture frame can be replaced, but the bowl cannot. All in all, I'm still impressed with the packing job that Sullivan did. We're still unpacking, but so far, every other other fragile item came through the move perfectly. read more
