If you don't want to wait over an hour for boiling crab you should hit this place up. The seafood is fresh but their seasoning is not quite as good as boiling crab but it does the job. This place reminds me of an old school boiling crab where it's not as refined. It definitely casual dining. The parking sucks but there's some street parking on it he small street. The prices are about the same as boiling crab. It's definitely worth a visit if you're craving a seafood boil. read more

So, I've been here a couple of times and the food has been good and reasonably priced. I stumbled upon this place when The Boiling Crab has a crazy wait years ago. Again, food was in point and not expensive. Came here last week with my girlfriend for some seafood and wine and the food was just okay. I don't know, maybe because I ordered the shrimp that was already peeled for the first time ever. The shrimp was a cool size but I could taste the red hot. It wasn't nasty but it has definitely changed. I was going to order crab but opted not to when I tasted the shrimp. I also ordered the fried mushrooms. They were just okay. They were super big and didn't have enough batter. If I remember correctly, they were much smaller before. The staff was super nice and the place was clean so no complaints there. Oh, I almost forgot, it would be nice if the sauce was thicker and had more garlic (if there was garlic, I didn't taste it). Location: The place is located on a busy main street. there's a small lot with a few parking spaces. The inside feels like the inside of a boat, with wooden panels. There's a lot of indoor tables, no outdoor seating. Staff: The staff was pretty normal. They didnt hover while we ate, and everytime they passed by we asked for something, which they brought. I dont know if its true if the owners changed ,but I ordered 3 lbs of shrimp with sausage and corn. The flavor has definitely changed and the shrimp were kind of mushy and they really scrimped on the sauce. Its a lot more watery than the thick sauce it had before. Had to update this part of my review.....I was told from a friend ( who is a chef) that the mushy shrimp is probably because they did not fully thaw out the frozen shrimp before cooking it. Food was good it filled us up really just like boiling crab. We had the shrimp that was already peeled, crawfish, snow crab legs, mussels, dozen raw oysters, 2 lobster tails, corn nuggets, fries and their Cajun fried rice. Honestly it was really good and will go back if we were in the mood for seafood boil again. Would I come back? My sister likes this place so I come back from time to time. I remember when my stomach could still handle the shrimp and crawfish sauce. Too bad after the healthy life took over, I am not able to eat too much oil. The last time I did that, it was regrets for two days. Now when I come, I usually order the fish and chips and another side. The fish and chips were lightly breaded and had big chunks of cod? in the middle. The fries could have been crispier but they were your standard fries. My sister recommended that we ordered the fried mushrooms. I was skeptical of how it was going to turn out but oh man were they delicious. The mushrooms were lightly breaded as well and was served with a side of ranch. They retained their juices that exploded in your mouth. You should probably let it cool down before you eat it. I on the other hand love hot food so they were okay for me. After we were done with our orders we decided to add the fried zucchini since I wanted to try it. I am used to fried zucchini being lightly fried and thought that they would serve it like that based on their other items. As I took the first bite, I noticed that the batter was really thick and hard. I only had a few pieces before I called it quits. I ended up ripping the other pieces to take out the zucchini. I would not recommend this item unless you enjoy eating batter. Their service is awesome and parking is a breeze. This place beats having to wait at Boiling Crab. The last time when we came here and we did not ask for check and the lady put the receipt on table and without say anything and then left. My seafood bag had just enough sauce to lightly wet the seafood. I had to ask for a a side of sauce which was 75 cents. I gave up since It wasn't enough so I ended up ordering a pound of crab legs and emptied that bags sauce onto the other. Overall my experience was pleasant and they gave me tons of lemons, which I liked since other places will only give you 1-2 wedges. I grew tired of the wait times at The Boiling Crab as well as the fact that they ran out of Dungeness crabs the last three times I ate there. I decided to give Boat House a try because someone recommended it to me. There is no wait time at the Boat House which is really nice. It's important to me because I'm one of those folks who have to eat right away as soon as I get hungry. My husband and I also liked the pirate themed decor that they had throughout the entire restaurant. I liked that they put effort into this Cajun restaurant to give this place more of an ambience. Out all the The Boiling Crabs that I've been to, they always had ugly walls. The Boat House is a step up. This restaurant is not insanely loud which is quite nice and relaxing. I finally got to order my Cajun style Dungeness Crab. I chose the House Special sauce mild. Mild is spicy enough as it is. Their House Special sauce tastes almost exactly the same as the Whole Sha-Bang sauce at Boiling Crab. This was exactly what I was looking for. After all, the quality of Boiling Crab's sauce has gone downhill because it's diluted and they give you so little. But at the Boat House, they give you more than enough sauce and it's actually creamy! When I dip my crab meat into their sauce, it gives an explosion of flavor that leaves you a nice, warm aftertaste. Remember that I haven't had Dungeness crab in a long time since Boiling Crab almost never has them in stock. I think the Boat House is my go to place for Dungeness crabs from now on. I would rather throw a huge party over here instead of Boiling Crab because there is no wait, and there is plenty of seating and large tables at the Boat House. In fact, the Boat House feels a lot more spacious than the Boiling Crab. They even have flat screen TV sets. My husband and I really liked their garlic butter sausage, chicken wings, and Cajun fries. I like how their fries were crispy instead of greasy. The Boat House had a lot of items on their menu and they were inexpensive. The only thing is that the seafood is completely based on the market price. I liked how our server was honest and up front and told me exactly how much the market price would be for the Dungeness crab. The best part about Boat House (they don't do this at the Boiling Crab) is that they cut your Dungeness crab for you. They removed the bottom half of the crab shell. The cut the legs and meat into chunks so it's so much easier to eat the crab. They also give you a tool to crack open the crab and a small bucket to toss all the shells. You still have to wear your bib which they provide because eating Cajun style Dungeness crab can get quite messy but the food is totally worth it. read more

The good thing about this place is how the shrimps are cooked at and the sizes of the shrimps are huge compared to boiling crab. I love their shrimp here. It's pretty tender and not too dry from being over cooked. The sauces are on point as well. Also my family and I ordered rice on the side as well since we're asian and need rice when we eat lol. Also tried their Cajun fries. I think their cajun fries are weird, it's just fries sprinkled with some seasoning...and it's pretty spicy too. The restaurant itself is pretty small though. Fits about 100 ppl which has about 14-16 tables in the whole place. Parking also sucks. Well it's in alhambra so what can you expect. It's right next to "the hat" PS don't think about parking at the hat even though the posted time to park there is 30mins. I totally agree, this place is better than the one down the street. I love their House Seasoning, just the right amount of heat, but if you don't care for garlic, then this is not the right way to go. They do have other seasonings, a choice of mild, medium, spicy or Cajun. I also tried to mix in mussels and sausage, they were good as well. The sweet potato fries and Cajun fries are good side dishes, but the best accompaniment to the juicy shrimp is the garlic bread, crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. What a super meal. So if you don't want to wait for an hour and a half just to get seated at the other place, come and check this place out. read more

Boat House is basically another version of Boiling Crab but with no wait time and they have plenty of parking spaces. Came here on two occasions, because BC's wait time was too long. Both times I had a good experience. The workers were attentive and the food was good. Honestly, I can't tell the difference with the flavor between BC and BH. I do have to say BH Cajun Fries is the only difference I can tell apart. They don't have BC's flavor and crunch. Other than that, everything else is the same based on flavor and price. I say you guys should give this place a try, and if you don't like it, then go back to BC. At least you tried something new right? Hooray this is the very first place I tried for Cajun style seafood! I know, you must think I live under a rock or something but I can't help it. I have an allergy to shellfish, especially shrimp. Is this a Cajun tradition or something, please enlighten me? =p The wooden picnic like tables are covered in butcher paper and great fun to doodle on while waiting for food, as every inch of space on the walls are covered already. Our table ordered a side of onion rings, a few bags of shrimp and crawfish. If you order $35+ you get a free pound of shrimp! Alcohol is not included in that $35 pricing, but beers are inexpensive here anyways. Those sensitive to spice be wary, the medium that our table got was just right. My friend said he got extra spicy one time and had to go home after the first bite. O_O! I have no comparison, but my friends said this place is good because it's not overly salty, there tons of sauce and not overly garlicky so you taste the Cajun spices. I like how all items came out finger burning hot, it's messy to eat but plastic bib and a roll of paper towels was provided. Tip: Ask for some lime or lemon wedges and sauce cups to make your own dipping sauce! Add black pepper, Tabasco and salt to your liking provided at the tables. I screwed up big time having my family meet me at the Boiling Crab in Alhambra on their way in to town from a stay over in Vegas via New Mexico. Sure did. Why? It was 1:00 pm on a weekday (Wednesday, July 2, 2014). They don't open until 3. I blamed it on my "baby / pregnancy brain" then went with my backup plan (I always have one). No problem! The Boat House is open for lunch! Plus the Boat House seemed to have satisfactorily met my family's desire for seafood and brews... At least our bill showed it. Ha! My dad & one of my brothers had some crawfish boil. Meh, if you like those nasty, hard-to-get-to-wanna-be shrimp, then yeah. I don't eat mudbugs. My mom ordered crab. She shared, of course, because it was a lot. My other brother had shrimp like me, except he got a different "sauce" than I did. I asked for their garlic butter / spicy sauce. It's all greasy, oily and a bit spicy (I have a very high tolerance for spicy foods, though) - no matter what you order! It could be a lot spicier considering it is Cajun / Creole inspired, but I suppose SoCal tongues don't like too much heat... But don't bitch about the food being oily or greasy. It's the Cajun way. My family also shared some oysters on the half shell. They were bummed to learn they didn't have crackers. We all shared an order of fried shrimp with Cajun fries. Meh... The fries were okay. Like 4 other parties besides us - 3 couples & another 6-person family. I've never been to the Boiling Crab, and have no desire to wait 2 hours if that's the usual case there. So the Boat House would be a great alternative to me unless the BC's food just blows me away somehow. Sides are ordered separately. The corn on the cob is a small piece, but so traditionally good with Cajun boiled shrimp. Drinks & food came out fast. Way to work it, girl! Bibs, extra napkins, & wet wipes were provided. They have ongoing specials & then some daily specials. I didn't have any, but the girl told me that the sake is served cold in a bottle! I always get my crawfish from King Crawfish (no relation or in anyway sponsored by them, just someone that loves my crawfish and knows what I like) from the Rowland Heights area on Gale Ave. But my coworker was telling me about this place the other day and I didn't feel like driving to Rowland Heights (I live in the SGV area). So we had 3lbs of shrimp, 1lbs of clams, 5 corns, 1 order of potato (1 order consisting of 5), and 1 order of sausage (1 order consisting of 10). The sauce was just red oil, the weight of shrimp weight in less than what we paid for, it was actually 2.8 lbs of shrimp and under 1 lbs of clams ( we actually weight it with a scale and pouring out the sauce). The corn was like those chewy corn that old people eat, not the real corn. The sausages were actually like pizza slices (that some bullshit) instead of chunks of sausages. When we get King Crawfish, I am never hungry and super full, I was actually still hungry after eating from Boat House. It lacks in flavor and they cheat you of the amount of food you pay for. I will never come back here and if anyone reads this, save yourself the disappointment and money and go to King Crawfish. read more

To our surprise, their shebang seasoning is as good as the Boiling Crabs' sauce. It is slightly pricy comparing to the other one but without a long line of waiting it is worthy! The clams and king crab legs is too die for. The clams are big and juicy! The king crab legs are huge and already cut so it is quite easy to eat! We had the house sauce at medium spicy which was perfect for the adults, but a little too much for the kids. Next time I'll go mild on the stuff the kids eat most (king crab legs) and medium on the stuff they were able to handle (shrimp). The best part about this place may be it's location next to the Hat. Skip the lines at Boiling Crab and grab a seat here at the Boat House. I am a fan of Boat House because I can usually get quality seafood without the 2 hours wait. Tastewise, the two restaurants are slightly different, but I am a happy camper as long as the shrimp is fresh. One (1) pound of shrimp runs for $11. If you are lazy, you can get the peeled shrimp for $17.50 per pound. According to my cousins, the peeled shrimps are fresher and you don't have to deal with the mess. I usually order the following: One (1) pound of shrimp - House Special Spicy. They charge an additional $0.85 for 1/2 cob of corn. Skip the sausages because they only give you ten (10) mini slices.
