We had a person with a severe dairy allergy in our group and were informed that all items are cooked on the same grill with butter on it. During this pandemic, it's been very challenging to find a good place for Breakfast. However, I was pleasantly surprised with Bob & Edith's. They are doing dine-in with the socially distant touch. If you come on a weekend past midnight expect a long wait. This place was absolutely crowded and makes sense for being one of the few diners open 24/7. The food is what you would expect from a diner. Not fantastic but it'll definitely fill you up and feel good especially if you just had a night out drinking. Honestly the food was a solid 3.9/5. The service however was pretty brutal. I had my order messed up 3 times. Also had to wait an extra 45 minutes because she forgot half of my order and then proceeded to forget a part of my order once it came out. She was accommodating towards the end but it was still rough. I was there for almost 2 hours when it should've been closer to 45 minutes to an hour. But I understand, it was stupidly busy and they were short staffed, not much you can do. Final thoughts, I would easily come back again for a late night meal. While visiting DC for a week, we ate here 3 times. 1st time was for dinner and it was excellent. Ordered the Chicken fried steak, homemade mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Had miscommunication with waiter for reasons you will see if you eat here. Ordered a VANILLA milkshake, got a banana milkshake. 2nd visit 2 days later: Ordered same as 1st day. Chicken fried steak was good. Mashed potatoes seemed like they were leftover from the 1st day and coleslaw now took on a very very yellow color. Didn't eat the slaw or the mashed potatoes. Yuck! Yesterday was a try at breakfast. Tried the "Eggs and scrapple" with hash browns. Mother in law got "two eggs and home fries". I ended up getting two eggs and scrapple with home fries and a separate plate that came out later with hash browns. Mother in law's plate, she ordered from the menu, which reads, "2 eggs and home fries ", she got a plate of scrambled eggs, and a separate plate of home fries. She doesn't eat potatoes, so she was going to give me the home fries. Remember, I was served home fries for some reason and hash browns on a separate plate(??). The ticket came due and I notice the "eggs and home fries" was now separated as a single plate of eggs and a single plate of home fries... which actually cost more than the "eggs and home fries" combo on the menu. Sketchy way to price things. Again, makes sense when you realize the language barrier with the employees, which are polite but seemed disorganized. We ended up eventually getting our food, 40 minutes after ordering, and silverware after getting our food and asking for said silverware... another 5 minute wait. This place doesn't seem like much when you walk past but it's been my favorite diner for years! See my ratings below: Ambiance: 4/5 - Has that old diner feel and is a very small location compared to its others but this is still the one I frequent. Price: 5/5 - Can't complain about the Bob's prices for sure. You can get a solid meal like my country fried steak and two eggs with hash browns and toast for ~$13-$14. Food: 5/5 - I have still yet to find a better hash brown or a better coffee milkshake than Bob's. Started coming here in 2014 and nothing has changed about that. Service: 5/5 - Staff is always friendly and I've never had any issues in the 9 years I've been coming to this restaurant. Highly recommend! One of my favorite spots that's local to Arlington. This place was my first food stop in town. Historically, diners have really good food. In every town, diners tend to be the closest thing to moms cooking. Truth be told, it was the breakfast photos that brought me here, but since it was 9pm, I decided to have dinner since I would do breakfast in the AM. Most meals were far larger than I was hungry for, so I had tenders and fries. Tenders were hot a crisp and fries were not as hot or crisp. Service was polite, but slow, this was more evident due to the fact that the place wasn't busy. The chicken was also in need a flavor. I'm going to assume it was food service, frozen tenders, but the chicken either needed to be marinaded before breading, or seasoning added to the breading. In the end, the meal was average, possibly slightly above, but not worthy of the near 4-star reviews. My hotel included breakfast, so I never ended up getting breakfast here, but I will assume it was as rich and hearty as photos advertise. Ultimately, this place fell short of expectations. We found this location via Yelp. After our flight cancelation, we stayed at a hotel near the airport. This restaurant is less than a 5-minute walk from the Holiday Inn National Airport/Crystal City. We figured the food was great as it was very busy. Despite this fact, the service was amazing. We were quickly seated, and our waitress was very attentive. There was a chalkboard with daily specials, and I chose one. My special was 13.99 and included three meats, eggs, house potatoes, and two blueberry hot cakes. The manager, Oliver, very personable and friendly says they're always crowded - esp on weekends, when the line is out the door and down the block! Wowzers! Oh, and Oliver is a doppelganger for Christian Slater too. Me and like everyone at the dining counter all agreed he could be his double....lol. I personally love watching the line cooks work the flat top whenever I sit in diners and they have a couple of them right behind the counter seating area here. Very, very breakfasty. Lots of hustle and bustle going on in this diner. Your senses are awakened to the smells, sounds of silverware and plates clanging, the sizzle of the flat top grill and the perpetual movement of dozens of employees all in seemingly choreographed motion. And they all seem genuinely happy to be working there. Nobody with a sour or dour look, or checking a cell phone, or talking among themselves rather than interacting with diners. And Oliver/Christian is like the star of the show....the mayor....all up in everybody's face like he's ready to sign autographs lol. Good alternative to the "usual suspects" of the breakfast world. Was in town for work and we just wanted some good breakfast. So I googled and yelped and found this place had 5 stars and a lot of positive comments. It's a diner so the menu can be a little big overwhelming but nonetheless I just told the waiter what I wanted and he ordered for me lol. So I got pancakes which were sooooo good. With Tucker sausage cheese eggs and home fries. The home fries could've have peppers and onions at least that's how I thought they came but they were still okay. It wasn't crowded at all. I ordered food from the 5050 Lee Hwy location on Uber Eats, and while the food was delivered on time, the experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered two scrambled eggs with cheese, home fries, toast with butter on the side, and an additional order of grits. Unfortunately, I received only the eggs, toast, and grits--no potatoes. I called the location and was placed on hold for five minutes. After hanging up and calling back twice, I finally spoke to the manager, who was neither understanding nor caring. She insisted I needed to contact Uber Eats to resolve the issue and even suggested it might have been the Columbia location, not theirs. By this time, I had left work and was already in my car with cold food. Frustrated, I entered the restaurant and spoke to the same manager. She dismissively said if the food was cold, it wasn't their problem. I explained that since my order was incorrect and I had to drive to the location to correct it, I should receive a new, hot order. She then claimed I couldn't order grits and potatoes together, to which I replied that the app allowed it, and I was willing to pay extra for the grits. She took my incorrect order, slammed it in the trash, and requested a new order. I finally received the correct order and, when I asked about the cost of the grits, she said not to worry about it. While I appreciated that gesture, the overall attitude and service completely ruined the experience for me as a first-time customer. As a manager in customer service catering to 465 people daily, I would caution this manager to brush up on customer service skills and professionalism. Suggestions for Improvement: Connect: Listen to the customer to understand their issue. Ask/Agree/Apologize: Ask questions to ensure you understand correctly and apologize where necessary. Resolve: Try to resolve the issue without placing blame or showing attitude. Ensure Satisfaction: Ask if the resolution is satisfactory to the customer. My Friday morning, July 19, 2024, resulted in a late start to my day, an altered mood, and a headache that could have easily been avoided. read more

Some family members were visiting the DC area and were staying at at nearby hotel. They chose to eat at the diner that night. This is one of those diners that stays opened all night. The menu is basic diner food, nothing too out of the ordinary. There was a lot on the menu that I was just not feeling so I settled on the fried chicken. It came with two sides. I chose mashed potatoes with gravy and mixed vegetables. My food was just okay. My chicken was fried a tad bit too hard but it was still manageable. I didn't expect much from the sides. The best thing was the mashed potatoes. I mean, how could that go wrong. If you're looking for basic diner food, this is your place. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and I love the seat yourself aspect so you get the full diner experience. Coffee was fantastic with just sugar and required no creamer. That is the true test of how great the coffee is when you can drink it black because it's good as not because that's how you like it. Food arrived two stages past lukewarm. I always prefer hot food just that, hot. My French Toast was a tad bit dry and lacked the powdered sugar. One side had more cinnamon than the other so you could tell the difference in the taste profile between the two slices. The inside was so clean and the bathroom exceeded my expectations. Others arriving after us already had food orders taken. Talked to manager who took order and delivered most of order. Had to go back about 10 min later asking manager where is food for the fourth, still waiting for syrup and other things. Went in a third time to ask manager what happened to 2 orders of toast. And another time as hashbrowns that are part of the "platter" still missing. Paying cash takes multiple people to process after having to go back to counter to ask for our bill.
