Arrived at 1:05, paid at 2:09. Food was ok. But service was very SLOW! Almost 10 minutes (1:15) before waitress acknowledged and took our order. Drinks out in about 5 minutes (1:20). Another 5 before bread came out (1:25-1:30). At 1:45 went to counter to ask for manager. Rudely, she said order was only in for 15 minutes and are prepared in order. Waitress was bringing food while I was at the counter. RUDE manager!!! Hope they enjoyed the 0 tip. There were several tables seated, served and left before we got food!! read more

The food was flavorful good burger and the mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned and buttery. Our server Jacob was the mvp for sure he thought of everything we didn't have to ask for refills etc and so kind. The restaurant is always clean. The only reason I did not give a higher rating for this visit was because of the way we were not greeted or checked out with a smile from the same person it was a bit off putting. read more

I am not sure what happened to Bob Evans. As a whole, many Ohio locations have gone downhill. This particular location is no exception. When you walk in, the hostess stand is empty. The staff shuffles back and forth behind the counter avoiding eye contact. 5 minutes later someone says, "how many?!" they take you to a seat, slap some menus on the table, and say, "someone will be here to take your order." 10 minutes later someone saunters over and says, "you know what you want?" It's an incredibly unwelcoming environment; especially for a restaurant that says, "we treat strangers like friends and friends like family." Food is really hit or miss. Sometimes piping hot, other times lukewarm. Sometimes missing ingredients or entire orders... It seems they've kicked up their merch game. The lobby is filled with mugs, tees, hats, and kids toys. In short, Bob Evans could really benefit from some customer service training, management included. read more

I was trying to figure out how to give zeros stars, but I couldn't. My advice - avoid the Bob Evans on N 21st street in Newark. We have been to Bob Evans before with bad service, but this is the first time I've been where the food was also bad. Exhibit 1, my "over easy" eggs (that is how the plate came out). Upon our arrival at this location this morning, July 31st 2018, my 10-year old cousin and I were told (after quite the lengthy wait at the desolate host stand) that our table would be ten minutes. We waited 15 for a table, sat, and was greeted 10 mins later by our server. She took our order (one sandwich, one pancake, and a barnyard buster. Two coffees. Two waters.) she got the coffee and thats the last we saw of her. Fifteen minutes go by. Twenty. Thirty. We are drinking straight coffee creamer and I ran across the street to McDonald's to get a coffee. Came back, and other tables were pretty upset too. Two tables got up and left. I would have asked for more coffee, how our food was, etc, but our server was sprinting past us like she was in the olympics. Here is a list of things we did in the time it took to get our order: -receive a 4-year bachelors degree -build an IKEA living room set -read the thesaurus backwards -learned Japanese -watched the entire series of game of thrones. -read the entire series of game of thrones. -grew old Food finally came out after we decided to be good soldiers and wait it out. Our server frisbeed the food onto our table and skittered away. Food was cold. Like... really cold. Which made me mad for the first time during this comically terrible experience. WAS MY FOOD SITTING IN THE WINDOW WHILE SHE WAS SPRINTING FROM TABLE TO TABLE?!?? The pancake never arrived. Shocker. Charged me for it anyway. During this 1.5 hour experience, every single table remained dirty around the restaurant. I continuously heard every word the kitchen was yelling. NOW: I have worked in the restaurant industry for ten years and I forgive mostly all bad experiences but this has hurt my feelings and I am officially breaking up with Bob Evans. Tonight we ordered from Bob Evans on 21st St. We won't do that again. My Chicken Salad Fruit Plate was a joke. One lettuce leaf, the chicken salad and 5 slices of tomato. No Banana bread or any other kind of bread, although Banana Bread is on the receipt. A container of fruit with browning bananas and bruised strawberries. When I called the manager on duty, Brian, he told me in a very condescending voice, "Well, Dear, that's how it comes". When I mentioned that it is served on a bed of greens at the Hebron store, he told me, "Well, then they are doing it wrong". Well, Brian, Google "Bob Evan's Chicken Salad Plate" and look at the picture and read the description. According to your corporate advertising, it's not the other store who is doing it wrong. This Bob Evans has the worst service. We try not to go here but all the other breakfast places were busy so we tried again.. So even though they have tons of free tables and spaces in the lot, they sit us down for "5-10 minutes". Then the next couple comes in and they seat those people right away. I used to like Bob Evans but the service at this location has changed my mind. The last two times I came here, it was a total disaster. The service absolutely sucked, our orders were wrong & food came out at different times. I always get the wildfire chicken salad & cheddar baked potato soup. Not sure how you can get that wrong or why it would take forever. I had to ask for rolls that typically come with my meal & they gave me one tiny butter. My son's eggs were cold & his bacon never showed up. I had to ask for a manager who acted like I was putting him out by complaining! I basically refused to pay for his meal or I would show my ass! Not impressed! I waited for a good 15 minutes before I was seated while I had two children under age of three with me. I had a whole line behind me waiting to be seated. Waitress was not pleasant & seemed very unhappy to be there. I hardly saw her & when I did it was quick and she darted off. Food came in about 15 minutes. It tasted okay, nothing spectacular. I got the garden medley omelet with home fries & the girls got hotcakes. The hotcakes were rubbery and hard to cut. Other than that, place looked semi-clean. Food was peppered underneath my table that was done prior to my arrival. Oh, the silverware was gross & dirty with dried up food chunks caked to it. If you're hungry, skip this place. The food was barely cooked: the hash browns were not cooked all the way through and were probably below the health department's temperature requirements; the potatoes in the Border Scramble could barely be cut with a fork; and the toast was barely crisp and wasn't buttered on both pieces. The Border Scramble sauce was bland. It must be the OH-KY border they're talking about. The food designers need to out of their corporate kitchens and visit a Taco Truck to try real Tex-Mex food. This compares to my last ill-fated visit to Bob Evans in Granville, when the bacon was burnt and should not have been served to the hogs down on the farm. Lastly, the grind-your-own salt and pepper must be saving them a ton of money, as they barely put out a thing... The investment bankers are running another restaurant chain into the ground. With food this dull, this company won't last much longer. read more

Since moving back to Ohio in May after 20 years, I was initially pleasantly surprised that one of my local favorites, Bob Evans, had expanded its presence dramatically. I think there were only 2 around town back then. But I soon learned that more isn't always a good thing. For example, there is a Bob Evan's just a mile or 2 down the road in nearby Newark on Cherry Valley Rd. I won't be going back to that store anytime soon. However, the Bob Evan's on 21st Street is just how I remember the restaurant was back in the day. You get seated fast, the service is always very good -- and the food always fresh and delicious. And always at very reasonable prices. I'm sure most reading this have been to Bob Evan's before so I won't blather on about the menu (I usually get one of the big breakfasts anytime of day I happen to visit). I would encourage burger lovers to give one of their offerings a try -- they are outstanding. If this was only a burger joint it would be popular. read more

We walked in to an empty hostess stand and I waited at the stand until a waitress came over from bussing table to greet us. She than said it would be about 5 minutes and walked away. She did not take our name as "she had no pen". My husband and I sat on the bench and were waiting for her to come back. Two additional parties came in and were immediately seated and then a larger family came in and were going to be seated. The whole time we are there- less than 10 feet from the hostess. The waitress that was going to seat the family acted as if she didn't want to be bothered with my husband and I. When we were eventually seated it was in her area. There were no refills on the soda and water, we asked for mustard and she said that she would bring it right back- she did not. We didn't even get an extra napkin and the food was cold. To the point of her not even bothered enough to bring the check over to us- she made someone else do it. When we were paying she was up at the counter behind the woman that took our payment and I did tip her $5. I normally tip much more as I understand how they are paid. But, I even questioned tipping that much. I do not think that I will be back in your store for a while. read more

Bristle brush hair found in husband's meal, as soon as he received it. they said it was from a new bristle brush used for buttering the toast. Staff ( waitress & mgr.)apologized. Have come to this location many times before, always been on the verge of disappointing. Well today is Christmas eve and all i did was call to check what time i had previously set to pick up a farm house feast. The girl who answered the phone gave her opening sales pitch sounding quite like a dalek from dr who, then after the query was made she turned and complained to a coworker about not having time for this. Then after 4 min finally asks me my name then immediately with no warning puts me on hold. After an eternity later tells me my pickup time and hangs up. It is pretty bad that even though i get BE gift cards regularly from family members they pile up or get given away to friends in other parts of the state. Took 5 minutes to be sat...wasnt greeted and when was the lady was so unprofessional...that should have gave us a heads up....then took 35 minutes for food, and the server was so unprofessional. I use to love to go to Bob Evans on 21st in Newark, Ohio ....but it has become a HUGE disappointment. Several times I have sat waiting for someone to talk to me, once I was seated, the longest time was 1/2 hr. Anorher, time I made my order and it took more than 20 minutes for the server to tell me the didn't have what I ordered and the restaraunt was not busy. Recently, I ordered togo and told the girl I would be sitting on the bench and an hour later I had to ask where my food was.....oh she forgot I was there.....really. The final straw...Monday night I went for dinner...was seated after 15 minutes my server apologized said she'd be right back to get my order after another 10 minutes she took my order including my drink order. Once again I waited....more people cane in more people were seated more people ordered....same server had 6 tables and no help....although there were other serving staff standing around doing nothing....this ordeal started at 6:05pm and by 6:55pm and the people who came in after me atleast had they're drinks I still did not....so I left. The icing on the cake is that EVERYTIME I have come in the manager are not paying attention or they talking but it's not about work and the staff is just standing around....the person they have on togo orders, is also the greeter, hostess/host, cashier....there are no runners to help him or the servers and the managers are not managing....I have worked in the serves industry and had management I admired greatly....the managers of this store would have been fired long ago and the servers trained properly....I will never swt foot in the 21st Bob Evans again. read more

The food was good on Wednesday October 29th. the service...wow..what can I say, besides it absolutely sacked. we couldn't even get the server to bring a second glass of water. If took forever to place our order. Food came promptly. Then forever to get the server to come back to place a carry out order. I was just calling the store to place the order when she finally showed up again! I have given this store the benefit of the doubt multiple times. Mostly because the food is generally good. No more. I usually go to Bob Evans for breakfast, however, last night we were out shopping in the North side of Newark and drove by Bob Evans around 8:00 p.m. The lot wasn't busy, so I thought it would be easy seating, etc. I ordered the broasted chicken, mashed potatoes and dressing. The food came out fast, but I guess that's not always a good thing. The chicken look like it was sitting around ALL night. The side dished were lukewarm at best. Rolls came out late, but they were fresh and hot. Did I complain? No. Who wants the hassle or tainted food? LOL The waitress never asked, "How is everything?" I went to pay the bill and the GM rang out and also didn't ask, "How was everything?" It was only an hour away from closing, but if you aren't going to serve fresh food until close then you should probably close earlier. read more

Horrible horrible place. I am a bob Evans lover. But went here yesterday with my boyfriend and son. The place was dead, yet it took 15 minutes for our waiter to introduce himself and take our drink orders. Then another 10 minutes until we asked another waitress if she would take our table instead. That seemed to tick her off. But she re-took our drink orders & our dinner order. Took another 40-45 minutes to get our food. While I could see our food sitting in the window. She said it took so long because of my salad.....? WHAT? So needless to say my son, along with my boyfriends dinner were luke warm. I then didn't see her but one time after that which was 10 minutes after we started eating, which I had to sit and wait so I could have more dressing for my salad. Then took another 5 minutes for my dressing to come back. By that time the rest were done eating. As I finish we waited another 15 minutes to receive our check, which we never did. The manager came to our table to ask us how our dinner was & I explained everything to her. She said she would get our check, apologized, & asked if we needed anything else. I said no just a box. 5 minutes later I get a check with 20% off and NO BOX!! Needless to say I will never be going back there. read more

This is hands down the worst restaurant in the city of Newark. I would rather experience being punched in the face by a boxing kangaroo than sit and wait at this restaurant. Let's go through the list so everyone knows to avoid this place like the plague. Service: To say it's the worst would be untrue. It's more like nonexistent. I've been here three or four times in 2015 and have waited an average of 20 minutes just to be seated (with several empty tables). Once seated, you're lucky if you have a drink within another 20 minutes. If you haven't left by then, you're a very patient person. However, that won't pay off at this restaurant. You're wait has just begun. After an hour, if you complain to the staff enough, hopefully you'll get your meal. Which brings us to our next topic. Food: On average, has not been that bad. It's rare if the server actually gets your order right, but it's happened a time or two before. Food can go either way here. Either it's good or really terrible. Half the time I've gone here, I haven't actually recieved my meal before having to leave after waiting well over an hour for my meal. Management: The managers here must have been hand picked at an indecisives anonymous meeting. Management is non existent and could care less about the success of this restaurant. I've called corporate and talked to upper management about the problem. Nothing was every done about it and it's apparent that no one really cares about how management works at this restaurant. Cleanliness: I've been in the bathroom several times where there's no paper towels and the toilets have been dirty, but the dining room is usually pretty clean. Our friends joined us for a supper time meal. My husband and I ordered hot food and our friends ordered salads topped with chicken breast. Our order came first and when we were about half done eating, then one of the salads came. I could no longer sit there silently, when we were finished with our dishes and the salad was half gone, so I asked to see the manager. When I explained that out of 4 meals, only 3 have arrived....his question was what did he order....I had to explain that at this time, it didn't matter....whatever it was, it wasn't there after three dishes served were already eaten. The manager came to our table and found out all the specifics and corrected the problem. Just a little disappointed in the service. We will probably go back and check them out again, as they are one of our favorite places to meet with friends. read more

Ate here on a Friday around 6:30, the place wasn't super busy but you sure wouldn't have known that by the speed of service. We chose the Bob Evans on 21st street because we were going to a play down the street, and needed someplace where we could be in and out in about an hour. No such luck. We seriously didn't get our food until almost 8PM, and since we were running so late we didn't even complain when some of what was ordered was incorrect and/or cold. We ordered eggs and bacon, a salad, and a grilled cheese sandwich...seriously how long could that POSSIBLY take? No drink refills. Grumpy absentee waitress. Unconcerned Manager (he could clearly see we had been sitting there for so long without any help, yet failed to intervene or even ask if everything was OK).
