We had our first experience here last night. We went to celebrate my husband's birthday. I had the fried chicken and it was delicious! The mashed potatoes were very good as well. Great service who really did a great job making my husband feel special on his day! Piano music in the background and when they came over with a birthday cupcake the piano player played happy birthday in the background. Great atmosphere. I'll give it the 4 for the ambiance and the escargot, otherwise average. Came in got the best seats in the house, corner booth over by the live piano. Sat side by side with the wife. Great start. Escargot excellent. Taste and presentation. Couple cocktails pretty good. Bit of a gout attack so no shrimp or steak for me. French onion soup underwhelming. Tasted OK but no cheese over the top, barely any bread/toast in it. Had to be an off day for the chef can't believe this would be standard so I'm giving benefit of the doubt. Wife's filet was proper, i got the fried chicken as it was one of only 10 things in the menu and waitress spoke highly of it. Presentation. Was weak, almost food court looking to have the vegetables in a saucer and pure white mashed potatoes in their own saucer. Ehh. Baked Alaska for desert was great. There is a pianist in there but I'm unsure when they perform. We were a party of 6 on a Saturday evening. My son, who loves salmon ordered a salmon rice dish. The salmon was broken up in such small pieces it looked like cat food. Several people had steak, no one complimented their food, no one finished their food or chose to take it to go. I ordered a margarita flat bread. I know, but trying to keep the tab down. It was easily the worst flatbread I ever had. The crust was dry and tasted stale. The toppings were so sparse that they did no favors for the dry crust. No one wanted dessert and just wanted to leave. So, short story, Beachcombers is not worth the cost of their mediocre food. Delicious filet mignon and Maine lobster tails. The molasses ginger muffins are a nice treat in the bread basket. Green beans were tasty and fresh. My husband liked his fried shrimp. The salads were fresh and tasty, lettuce and cucumbers and cherry tomatoes were crisp. Atmosphere very nice and inviting with cool sailboats as a wall decor in one section and various interesting paintings in another section. Service was impeccably timed and good. I wasn't a big fan of the shrimp lobster bisque it was almost like a stew it was so thick and I didn't taste any Sherry which I always think lends a nice flavor to lobster bisque. The baked Alaska was different than the traditional with no flaming and hence no brûlée taste. Instead, chocolate sauce is generously poured over the mound of vanilla ice cream and marshmallow. We always loved going to the Beachcomber every Thanksgiving day & Christmas Day it was a tradition, but now since they raised the prices of the dinners $10,$20 more each , a cup of lobster bisque use to be included which now is not included and , they charge an additional $ 10 for pumpkin pie desert that use to be included , $6 for coffee and eliminated the relish tray that was always included we no longer eat there for the holidays . read more

We were so excited to try Beachcombers, but we should have read the reviews first. Terrible food overall. The lobster bisque was outstanding as was the baked Alaska. Everything else was horribly bland, overcooked and served barely warm. The famous chicken was so over cooked and so dry. The salmon tasted like bland farm raised. The mashed potatoes was barely warm and lumped together. Never again. I should have complained and asked for hot cooked properly food but the server was responsible for many many tables and was literally dropping the plates on the table. The owner was extremely rude on the phone and hung up on me when I called to ask if they were running late. When we arrived for our 7pm reservation she told us that we would have to wait and would be seated by 8pm as they were running late. Once we were seated a member of our party asked for white meat only and were told that the owner advised the wait staff to not accept any substitutions ; that also included the salad dressing choice. When we were served, the white meat was dry and tasted/looked like shoe leather. Surprisingly the rest of the meal was very good. This is the second time that the owner has been extremely rude to us and after our experience tonight we will never patronize this restaurant. Went to the Beachcomber after a very long time of not going due to Bob Heilman's son taking over after his sister Nancy passed away. Unfortunately the sons wife has been the hostess for several years and chased away so many customers including myself , my friends, and my family who have been going there for 50 years. So I thought I'd pop in for my birthday and give it another try. The place was basically empty except for two tables of people dining. I was elated to find out that the sons wife no longer runs the front due to all the negative posts about her. Geeze it took long enough !! I was in shock to find out that they no longer serve the relish tray that made the Beachcomber the Beachcomber. And they no longer serve the frog legs that were the best around. Last but not least, my biggest disappointment was finding out they no longer serve the Onion Rings. To my horror, the new menu is a piece of paper with their new a la carte menu. $60 for two small (not jumbo as the menu says) lobster tails. If I want a baked potato that will be an extra $9 and if I'd like a side of asparagus with hollandaise sauce that's an extra $24 and it's not even organic... wth After the wife ran the place into the ground now they're trying to make up for it by overcharging. Needless to say, I won't be returning. It breaks my heart to see what was a great restaurant that stood the test of time has been ruined by one very nasty woman . No doubt, Bob and Nancy are rolling over in their graves. PS if you should decide to try it , ask for Matthew to be your server. He is their only saving grace ! She loves their onion rings, so we were going to get some onion rings and some drinks at the bar and then we were going to be on our way as we were going to go to a couple of other places throughout the night. The bar was full, so, my friend got us a table, and when the waitress found out that we just wanted some onion rings and cocktails. She was extremely rude we explained to her that we wanted to sit at the bar, but it was full, she said we do not reserve tables for onion rings. Moving is chaotic for everyone. As a big food enthusiast, I moved to florida extremely nervous as to what would happen. But, coming to Clearwater was a breath of fresh air. If you're stomach is grumbling I definitely recommend coming to Bob Heilman's. As I entered I felt as if I entered my grandma's home. My experience was even better when my waiter came to the table. Michael (the waiter) was so pleasant and accommodating, he was so great. We ordered a few appetizers and he made sure to explain as much as he could when we looked puzzled on the various options the menu had and also confirmed all the questions we had prior. Also, the relish platter was one of my favorites about this restaurant. This platter included beet sauce, seasoned corn, cottage cheese with herbs on top and another sauce that tasted like guava... it was EXTRAORDINARY. Mouthwatering is more like it. She is clearly an older lady and scared of Covid but enough is enough. There is a polite way to ask someone to adjust or put on their mask and a rude way and she definitely was the latter. Short story: overpriced and under seasoned food, got food poisoning, terrible bartending customer service, not good for groups, but the wait staff is wonderful. My family and I went to eat here September 2018. It was supposed to be a surprise birthday party for a friend - I say "supposed" because the hostess completely blew it by telling him "oh you're here for the birthday dinner right?" Thanks, lady. While we were waiting for our guest of honor, a couple of us hit up the bar. Running bar tabs shouldn't be that difficult, but if you mess up at least have the courtesy to apologize and redo the ticket. Instead, the bartender, who added extra drinks to one friend's tab, told us, "you're all together anyway, you can just pay her back for the drinks." Uh, how about no? The sweetheart of our guest of honor complained about being stuck in the corner of the restaurant instead of using a long table or pushing tables together so we could sit closer. The cushioned seats were nice but we felt like separate parties. I would not recommend this restaurant for large groups. We received our food which tasted too under seasoned for the price we paid for. I think other reviews are blinded by the $$$ they have to shell out to notice the blandness. The chefs couldn't even cook our two orders of salmon to wet. What kind of fine dining restaurant is incapable of doing that? What's wrong with your quality of fish that you can't do that?
