I ordered the hojicha and it tasted extremely sandy and powdery? Very strange. Do not order that. Did the quality here go way downhill? For over $7 a drink I expected better quality so I'm very disappointed.

I don't get the hype, y'all. Not that I'm implying that Boba Guys is bad, it just isn't anything special IMO. I came here to quench a thirst and went with something simple: Oolong Milk Tea + Grass Jelly The drink itself tasted very milky with the tea aspect muted. The grass jelly was good but again, it just tasted like I was drinking milk. 3 stars. Maybe I picked the wrong item but something as basic as this shouldn't be difficult to execute, right??

Matcha ($9.90) - 24oz Iced, Boba, Almond Jelly, Grass Jelly

Date: Friday, August 29th, 2025 Time: around 8pm Party of: 2 Matcha Latte ($9.90) *24oz Iced *Boba *Almond Jelly *Grass Jelly *0% sweetness *Water - no milk After dinner, a girlfriend and I decided to get boba tea. Boba Guys was not too far, so we walked over and got some drinks. I adore almond jelly, so I love that BG offers this. I don't like milk with my matcha. (I know, weird.) Luckily they were able to modify and use water instead. I was very appreciative. The matcha was good and the toppings as well. The balls soft with a nice chew, the jellies silky and flavorful. There's isn't really any place to sit at the shop, so we sat outside at one of the tables in Santana Row. It was a little chilly, but I'm glad there's a place to hang since my gf and I wanted to catch up. A solid place to grab a tea. And I'm glad they can do a matcha without milk. REVIEW #3848

This place is very small inside and can get really crowded. Waited outside for my drinks to be ready so can barely hear them call my name and had to squeeze my way in to get my order. You can order on the kiosk or at the register. Wasn't too crazy about the drink menu so I just settled. The strawberry fields lacked flavor and tasted just mostly like milk. Strawberry jasmine tea was super watered down barely any tea flavor. Not a fan of this place

Banana milk w/ shot of hojicha and Black Sugar Hojicha Latte
    Audrey M.

*Drinks* Ordered the banana milk with a shot of hojicha and the black sugar hojicha latte. I really like their banana milk which is my go-to order. I needed some caffeine today so I decided to add a shot. The taste was ok, but because of the shot I couldn't taste much of the banana milk ; - ; but that's not a problem since I decided to add it lolol. The boba was on the tough side with not much flavor to it. Also the drinks do not come with boba, you have to pay extra to add it. *Service* You can order on the kiosk or at the front. Service was quick. *Ambiance* There are other drinks to try and the inside was clean and not busy on a Friday afternoon. One chair next to the window.

Service was wonderful! Staff, especially Connor, were so friendly and supportive when helping me find a drink to order :) The cafe itself is so warm and cozy, and the drink was sososo tasty Def recommend

From the boba I got, it was pretty mid tbh. It tasted a bit watered down. I could taste the tea flavor though which was good. Honestly would rate it 3.5 but there's no in between.

There was once a time when I pledged my allegiance to Boba Guys; they haven't been a cool new pop-up in the Mission District for a while, & every new location I try makes me enjoy them a little less. I take full responsibility for messing up my own drink from their Santana Row location. I couldn't stop obsessing over their almond pudding, which I always add to my usual Jasmine Green Milk Tea, but I screwed up when I insisted they add it to their Mango Sticky Rice drink. Made with mango puree, rice milk, & black sticky rice, the creation itself didn't live up to its name. It was extremely sweet & the individual tastes did not meld well; the almond pudding just exacerbated these issues. If I'm in the area walking off dinner, sure, I might stop in for a milk tea, but I'll stick to something familiar & simple & not try to jazz up their seasonal specials myself.

Ask the Community - Boba Guys

Do they have cheese foam or creama? Is the cloud topping just a basic cream?

No, they don't do cheese foams.

So miss sunnyhills' pineapple cakes... do they have them here???!?!! They had it in sf many years ago so hope they brought it here too

I didn't see them while I was there. They do sell items from Sunday Bakeshop, which is an Asian/French bakery based in Oakland.

How is the line there around noon during weekdays?

With some coffees a second cup will give me a stomach ache (especially since I drink my cold brews black and bitter like my soul), but I had no problems with their cold brews! I also got the vegan stonefruit scone (baked by Sweet Dragon) and while a little on the dry side (common with scones), paired extremely well with the coffee and had good flavor. Husband got a cappuccino and a strawberry mini pie and was extremely pleased with his order. The service is friendly, but some things may have been new on the day we went. They almost forgot my cold brew until we asked at the counter, as well as stating that they didn't have anything to heat up my husband's strawberry pie (which seems odd, since a little toaster oven seems like a simple fix for that), but apparently it was fantastic at room temperature anyway. Seating was absolutely full when we got there and we were lucky to snag a table as another couple left, so it seems like a popular Saturday morning spot. Several folks were working on laptops, and it seems like a kid-friendly place. The decor is a clean and modern/trendy industrial style, which works well for the space, and the windows provide nice daylight. Overall, a good coffee shop and I am really happy to see vegan pastry options! My husband is getting into pinball, which was part of the motivation to come out and try Chromatic, so I am sure we'll be back again next time he wants to hit up Slingshot (in the same building), and I look forward to the coffee and treats!

The seating area is quite limited for the large crowd it attracts, making the atmosphere inside feel a bit chaotic at peak times. Fortunately, the baristas are super polite and work fast, keeping the long lines moving efficiently. The coffee menu and the retail bean selection are both impressive. I decided to try a dulce de leche coffee. While I was expecting a strong caramel profile of dulce de leche, the flavor turned out to be fairly subtle rather than prominent. It added a significant sweetness, but without knowing the order beforehand, identifying the exact flavor would have been tough. That said, the coffee itself was still refreshing The high quality of the coffee bean really shone through, delivering a rich aroma and the ideal caffeine kick for a breezy morning. Great coffee beans and fast service make it worth dropping in, even if the indoor seating situation is a bit tight.

The espresso is solid. Today I tried the seasonal Melo Belo. It's an iced banana latte with a coconut cream on top. The banana flavor is subtle and not too sweet. That's my preference when I have coffee, but I think most would actually benefit from asking for extra banana syrup. The coconut foam is also subtly sweet, and actually has a slight saltiness that helps the drink feel well-balanced. This drink was definitely a treat. They also have a great selection of pastries that range from standard croissants to less common flavors, like mango and ube. They do tend to sell out throughout the day, so if you want the best selection, come early.
