My first visit to BobaQue earlier this week was okay. They were out of a lot of menu items mid-week and our waitress was a bit forgetful. However, the food was genuinely good and made up for those minor issues. Based on that positive food experience we decided to return this weekend, specifically for the fried catfish. This time we added rib tips. Again, they were out of food and drink items. We received the tips about 30 minutes later. We reminded the wait staff that we also had the two catfish platters. She assured us it was coming right out. We'd asked three additional times and was told they were "working on it." After asking the fourth time if they even started the order, we were told no. An hour of waiting for an order that was never started is unacceptable. Given the owner had been walking around asking about experiences during my previous visit, I requested to speak with him. I shared with him that my first visit was ok but I was disappointed this time. He started to frown and had a visible expression of disgust on his face. I asked him if he was okay? He said, "I'm just tired." I thought to myself, to tired to make money? (I digress). I explained to him what took place. He then asked what was ordered? I told him and he said "Oh, I sold two cases of catfish earlier." I said okay. He said, "we sold out." I then shared that it was never communicated with us that the item was sold out. He just kind of shrugged his shoulders. Now, I'm disgusted. I decided at that moment not to return. He did call out to me as I was walking off that if I came back during the week that he would cover one of the orders. His offer to "cover one of the orders" felt like an attempt to appease rather than genuinely address the poor service and communication. It's not about getting something free, it's about the complete lack of customer service and the experience. I'm not going to remember what you said, but I will remember how you made me feel. BobaQue? Boba-WWHHHHAAATTTTT????!!!! Daddy stop THE BUS!!!! Wow!!! I MEAN WOW!!! I've walked by this place many times when visiting my Dad from Hawaii because he lives in Newtown. I have gone to Salt + Smoke, Heavy Smoke BBQ, Adam's Smokehouse, Sugarfire and a few others while visiting Missouri because I LOVE BBQ. We don't have a lot of BBQ in Hawaii. Okay, okay, okay... Maybe I'm addicted to BBQ. Hubby BBQ's or smokes something every week, we have spent a lot of time reading books, watching Youtube videos, etc. When it's not football season, we also regularly watch BBQ Pitmasters, BBQ Pit Wars, BBQ Brawl, Moonshiners: Smoke Ring, BBQ Pitmasters: Re-ignited and some others I don't remember. We love to eat and we watch a lot of cooking shows, when there isn't a college or NFL football game. Out of ALL THE BBQ PLACES I mentioned above this is the ONLY one I have written a review for. All of them had things they did well and usually a few things I didn't love. BobaQue???? EVERY. SINGLE. THING. WAS. UNBELIEVABLE. My Dad and I shared the meat platter (or sampler, whatever it was called), plus a WHOLE rack (haven't eaten very many of those yet), and potato salad and beans. Huge portions for SURE!! I'm not too fond of beef ribs. In fact I rarely order them unless it's something the restaurant does well (like Adam's). Most of the pulled pork I have eaten in Saint Louis has been really dry, I have yet to love it (Heavy Smoke BBQ was good). I don't usually like BBQ chicken either, it's usually too dry or still kinda slimy and wet inside (I can't help it, texture is a thing people). BUT..... To do EVERYTHING PERFECT???? GET OUTTA HERE!!! The beans had the PERFECT balance of heat and spice, and I am a VERY picky bean eater. I don't think I've ever written about beans in my life. EVER. The potato salad??? OMG!! I could fill a bathtub with that stuff and eat it all day. It has pickles and pimentos! And the potatoes were cooked PERFECTLY!! The perfect balance of sweetness and acid from the pickles. The pulled pork!!?? Heaven must have BobaQue pulled pork in it or the angels would cry. The chicken? My Dad said he had never in his life eaten chicken that flavorful. I agree, and the texture was PERFECT!!! And the ribs... BEEF ribs!!! FREAKING UNREAL!! Lots of meat on these bad boys and they aren't dry and nasty either. The Pork belly burned whatever was delicious and I don't like pork belly (I have a texture thing remember, lol). I even ate the whole thing!!! Normally with pork belly, I eat the meat and leave the fat, not these!!!! And reading the 3-star review about grammar, punctuation, hours, lack of advertising... BobaQue and no boba tea? Who cares about boba? Wait... What??? The MAN is cooking his tail off!! He doesn't need to worry about crap like that. This place is amazing! I simply loved the hometown feel with a neighborhood bar and grill atmosphere, it brought on immediate happy vibes! The bbq rib tips were mouthwatering delicious ! Thanks also to the nice gentleman who turned on the STL Cardinals baseball game to allow my husband and I to watch the game from two of the many televisions in the restaurant. I had a half slab of ribs and a side of fries. The bbq sauce was a little too sweet for me, but the ribs were the best ribs I have ever had. Didn't mind the sauce because of how good the ribs were. They were already cut. When I picked up the first rib, the meat fell onto the plate. It was insanely juicy and tender. Absolutely the best ribs. The owner came out and talked to us. How are you a barbecue restaurant with no barbecue. I should have know when the pits were not smoking any meats. So ordered chicken wings and fries waitress said 15-20 minutes....45 minutes later no food. While sitting at the table waiting for my food the table had a leftover cup from the previous people and the table was so sticky you couldn't touch it . I asked could she check the order and she said there are 26 orders ahead of me. Wait you haven't even started my order. I politely asked for a refund which took another 15 minutes and 2 people to figure it out. There was a group of about 5 workers just standing around the window where the food was/wasn't coming out if you are that busy and tables are dirty there has to be something you could be doing. I went here last night. The restaurant itself is poorly designed and cheaply built. The staff is very nice and friendly. The menu is very limited which is weird because most bbq places have a pretty extensive list of choices. I wasn't that hungry so my date and I split a whole chicken with two sides. I was surprised they served the chicken whole - it wasn't cut at all into pieces. That made it cumbersome to eat. The chicken was tasty, tender and moist. But they only offer one sauce?? No variety of choices? Got slaw and potato salad - both served in small plastic drinking cups. Potato salad was good but I've never had slaw that lacked flavor like this. As we approached the restaurant, we have three of us and a service dog. Once we reach the hostess stand the girl says she has to ask about the dog, which we then inform her she cannot refuse our service because of the service dog due to ADA laws. After we were sat we then saw another dog sitting right next us with no tags or training, the dog was going nuts over mine. We then sat for 15 minutes with no service and were walked past by waiters multiple times. As well as the tables next to us were having problems with waiters as well, but they had food.
