It says soft opening but I think it's been there for a while. This is located in a dead plaza. We stopped by Chuck E Cheese and the kids wanted some boba. I got a Taro blended ice, kids got peach blended ice and Taro milk tea with boba and rainbow jelly. All 50% sweet, which was perfect for us. I cannot stand boba that is too sweet. I have tried Mapo Tofo from many places and this Mapo Tofu has to be on my Top 3. There was a slight sour taste with enough heat and spice to flavor but not scorch your tongue. The chow mein was also good and the orange chicken was decent. I had to give the food a five because the Mapo Tofu cracked my top 3 list. Price: 5/5. Price seemed slightly high but understandable due to inflation. My expectations was for fast food prices. However, quality was much above fast food quality. Overall I got 3 entrees, 2 boba drinks for about $60 with tax and a decent tip. The amount of food was enough to feed 2 people for 2 separate meals and we were both STUFFED. Look, I'm just a fan of Boba Wok. This little chinese spot makes great boba and good food at a reasonable price. I hesitate to talk the boba up as it's not only better than other boba areas around the way, but it's easily accessible, and ALOT less people than Boba Time. Make sure to ask dor spicy because it's better that way. DRINKS -Coffee Milk Tea: I believe they put actual coffee with milk tea because I had to mix it and the flavor is not your typical flavored milk tea. There was some bitterness to it. Boba topping itself? It's alright. Texture is chewy but it wasn't soaked in sugar/syrup long enough so it wasn't sweet. Or could it have been the coffee? -House Milk Tea: not bad but not great. Ok, first of all, 5 stars is given because they are probably the best shot at milk tea and popcorn chicken(Taiwanese version) I can find in Burbank area. Having working in Burbank area for the past 8 years has not been easy for someone like me who's always on the look for some milk tea and popcorn chicken for a decent tea break.... I always get their green milk tea (or house milk tea) with grass jelly (yes they do have grass jelly, just ask! ) and an order of popcorn chicken. Not bad seriously, thus, the 5 stars. I walked into BobaWok for the first time on a weekday and it was clean and bright inside. There were only two customers waiting for their order so the shop was pretty empty. I ordered an iced Thai tea with boba and decided to pair it with some popcorn chicken. The guy at the counter wasn't too helpful even though I told him I was a first time customer. He asked me "how spicy?" and I asked him what the levels were since everyone does things slightly differently. I asked him if "medium" was really spicy because at another place it was enough to make my mouth fire. He said it was spicy, so I tried it. However, it wasn't spicy at all :( I've had mild popcorn chicken and even that was spicer than BobaWok's medium. The chicken itself was just okay. I've been here about 3 times. The food is ok, not the best. The noodles we ordered actually had a really burnt taste to them and we didn't end up eating them. I've also had a few boba milk teas. The lavender one is my favorite. However, the biggest issue here is the horrible service. All 3 times, I dealt with the young man. He obviously hates being there. He is SO rude. The menus are confusing, so the first time I ordered, I misunderstood because of the confusing menus and he talked to me like I was stupid. So I never ordered food from there again. The second time I ordered 4 bobas. He entered them in and then I repeated the order. He confirmed and then at the end only gave me 3 saying I never mentioned a fourth one. Then he went on to make the order for the next person before completing mine. The third time I went in was during quarantine and apparently there's one table you're not supposed to sit at because I guess that's where he sits when there aren't any customers. There was no sign posted or anything. He spoke to me in such a rude manner. Another customer came in and had the same experience. All 3 times I felt just horrible energy. Probably one of the only few places you can find Taiwanese popcorn chicken in Burbank. Ordered some popcorn friend chicken and was not disappointed. It was light, crispy, and juicy. The only criticism I have is that I wish the spice on the popcorn chicken was spicier. I got the medium level spice and it tasted like I ordered it with mild spice. Overall though, the chicken was delicious, prices are very affordable, and the wait for the chicken was pretty fast. Straight up and down, in all my life I have never been to a boba place like this. The name is boba wok meaning boba is a huge part of the menu. Is that true? No, the boba was old, the liquid was pure syrup, and it was honestly expensive. I spent 4.37 for a large drink with boba. I can go to boba time that is a 10 min drive and get a boba that 20x better for the practically the same price (Of which I did). I've lived in Burbank for over 35 years and I've never seen more horrible service than this. The owner/manager is fighting with every single customer that walks in and he does not care about customer appreciation or service. He talks to you with an attitude, has no smile, and makes you wait long periods for minimal requests. This place is also filthy and it reeks.
