My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at Bob's Steak & Chop House in Grapevine. When we made the reservation we notated that we were celebrating our anniversary. We have previously celebrated special occasions there and we have never been disappointed in the quality of our food or in the level of service provided. Jeff, our server, was very attentive as were the other members of the wait staff team. It is obvious that the management team does a fantastic job training the staff. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and our calamari appetizer was outstanding. Monte Morris, the GM, EP., and other members of his management team, Royce and Mark, also stopped by to congratulate us on our anniversary and ask if there was anything we needed. We came here for a birthday celebration. We had a party of 8. We were seated in the far end of the restaurant. It was quiet and the ambiance was perfect for our party. Our server was attentive. He told us the specials that evening. All of them sounded wonderful. The cocktail list and wine list was extensive. They even have bottled beer. One the table there is a jar of pickled pickles and bell pepper. You also get bread and butter. This was by far the BEST steak me and my husband have had in the dfw area. My husband gets the prime rib everywhere we go. I got the filet topped with crab, asparagus and hollandaise. I got a side of skillet potato. Yum!!! Compared to all the other high dollar steaks in the dfw area-I promise you-this is the BEST steak overall. For dessert the birthday girl got a giant brownie topped with vanilla and peanut butter ice cream covered in a chocolate and nut covered shell. I cannot say enough good things about this place! We came here to celebrate a night off from the kids & we were treated with true VIP service, from start to finish. From the fast valet, to the quick seating. We were sat in the most perfect, intimate booth in a corner next to a cozy fireplace, where you could smell the wood burning, which just added so much to the intimacy of the ambiance. Our waitress, Shannan, was so sweet, down to earth & made us feel just so special the entire night. So helpful & quick with service. We never had to ask for anything. The manager came over not once, but twice, to check on us & create conversation, making us feel like true restaurant family. The food & drinks were absolutely divine! The duck and steak were cooked perfect. The mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had. The signature carrot was so unique. The macaroni was out of this world, I've been searching for the recipe ever since. The creme brûlée & chocolate cake were heavennnn. My husband and I had a WONDERFUL time last night celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary at Bob's in Grapevine! We arrived when the doors opened, without reservations, and were seated in a wonderfully located booth for us - between a wall and another booth - my husband has trouble hearing with background noise, so this was perfect for us! Kyle did a great job taking care of us throughout our time there ... we don't drink alcohol and he didn't seem to care and treated us wonderfully (I know restaurants make a lot of their $ off alcohol and sometimes it bother them when people don't drink). The GM, Monte, visited our table when we arrived and he was so nice and kind - we visited a bit, laughed and he offered us a free dessert for our anniversary. My steak was cooked to perfection (a "touch" of pink) - the last steak I got in Dallas had to be returned because it was "red" and I couldn't eat it ... my husband said the crab cakes were great too! The smashed potatoes and carrot were yummy as well!!! I will say their bread is a FAVORITE of mine and I can eat it for my meal! It's REALLY hard for me to save room for my entree (I admit, I did eat a lot of bread and brought half of my meal home)!!! Dessert was epic and could have feed 4 people! Bob's is Christmas Eve in Texas. Over-the-top garland and lights everywhere, course after course of rich food, and lots of cocktails for all. Make a reservation if it's a weekend or special occasion. (We waited too late one year only to be relegated to Christmas Eve eve.) The only negative about my most recent experience is that the server was all about the UPSELL. Want to recommend a wine pairing for my steak? Sure, go for it! But this particular server relentlessly suggested a pairing (food or beverage) at every opportunity. To each person in our party. For every course. No one goes to Bob's looking for a bargain, but they also don't want to be pushed towards ordering far more than they desire. The food is remarkable, whether it is the Seabass, steak, lamb, salad or prawns it's great and consistent. The bar here at Bob's continues to show the polish of the management and pours handsomely. If you like stout margarita's or mexican martini's do yourself a favor and order an M2 (m squared). The bartenders are attentive, fun, and have a great feel for everything that is going on. We have been to several other Bob's restaurants - and they are better than the majority of other local steakhouses, however, Bob's Grapevine is other level. read more

Wow. It's been a while since we've been here but after this experience we will be back more often! The food was incredible and the service impeccable. We had steak and rack of lamb, carpaccio and wedge salads. We were celebrating my sons graduation and they made it so personal and special. We went to Bob's last Saturday night for a special occasion. It is a great steak house but without the stuffy feel. I also love the bar area, we had some live music to listen to while waiting for a table. I ordered the filet which was amazing but the best part was the jalepeno bacon Mac and cheese. I was drinking the Moscow Mule/Red Ruby Mule. In the two hours we were there I think I drank 5. So delicious. All of the appetizers were delicious. I came for the steak obviously. Personally I'm not a huge seafood fan. But after trying the 3different types of shrimp and lobster and lobster bisque. OMGOSH it was all amazingly good. I think I love seafood now . So I ordered the Tomahawk Steak, which is not on the menu btw. It's a secret menu item. This thing was massive. The crust was perfect on it, melt in your mouth every bite! I came here with my best friend for his Christmas party, IT WAS GREAT! Although I'm technically an "adult", this place felt VERY mature. I had a tito's martini and was very tipsy by the end of that one (I tried to drink like an adult). I had their shrimp linguine, and my friend had the steak and lobster. Everything was awesome! The General Manager even stooped by our table to check on us and tell us "Happy Anniversary" I had the ribeye and my husband had the NY strip. Both were cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed the cocktails and dessert. My only con was the fact that most of the "off the menu" special items and appetizers I couldn't eat due to a shellfish allergy. There was really only one soup and one or two appetizers I could eat. My son even made a joke about it after the waitress left the table. So maybe a few more special "off the menu" items for the many of us who can't eat shellfish would be nice. Wow. What can I say but giant disappointment. Just like Texas Monthly puts out their 63 Tacos compendium, Best BBQ in Texas, they forayed recently into reevaluating all he best steak joints and Bob's was on it. I contend it be stricken (or at least asterisked). Nothing was original about this 3rd franchised locale of Bob's. Rich Mahogany, brass fixtures, beveled glass. All excusable if the food itself sings. Immediately the menu pricing was obscene. A bone-in rib-eye, in TEXAS, for $43 pre tax and gratuity isn't a privilege, it's robbery. Wine prices easily were 200-300% marked up. No one should ever have to spring $14 for a glass of KJ chard. The pours weren't even generous. The firing on the steak was inconsistent. Bleeding on one end, charred on the other, Even the connective tissues which are supposed to turn to buttery goodness after 28 days of aging, were chewy. The smashed potatoes, completely uninspired. The creme brule was mediocre, the bread pudding garnered an okay response, but the chocolate cake looked like something you'd order at Chili's. Chef Gorji at the Canary Cafe served me an impeccable, delectable, succulent rib-eye, over garlic Parmesan gnocchi just 4 days before and for half the price, and with 5 star service. Another issue I had with the restaurant is that I was greeted, checked in for my reservation, seated, served wine & the first 2 courses then rudely tapped on my shoulder and asked to remove my hat. Had it been done at any other earlier time would have been no problem and in much better form than interrupting the service for something so menial. To be looked down on by a manager in nothing better than a Sears quality suit was maddening. I cannot recommend by a mile, or by a manager's bad pompadour. The only reason I didn't open my mouth is because this was a family dinner/special occasion where people had flown in to town for, and I didn't want to mar the evening in any way. read more

Bob's is supposed to be the 'premier' dining experience in Grapevine, right? Fancy wines, fancy seafood, and robust Steaks, right? Nope. (I honestly think that the place next door - much cheaper and way better service & fantastic food - is worth 100% more the money than I spent at Bobs) - I think its called Mi Dia. Well, the clientele and ambiance might try to trick you - But the fact is that this place is the opposite of what you might expect. Look like you're spending money, and you must be important - Go ahead Grapevine/Southlake, waste your money away at Bobs - This place is a has-been sort of joint, without any sort of character, whatsoever. They even have flat-screen LCDs in every room (don't worry sports-fans.....they're never on, ever). Classy. Case in point #1: The first item ordered is the most important to make an impression. A staple: A Margarita, on the rocks, with salt. The first problem that I had with this drink was the presentation: I am not a particularly judgmental reviewer, but the salt was sparse....and it was table salt. Literally, table salt (they should be using sea salt when they charge $12 for a drink). Every bartender on the planet would be embarrassed using anything but sea salt for their rim salt - Not Bobs. The worst part: the bartender probably covered 20% of the rim in salt. I could have whipped out a margarita much better in my kitchen. Case in point #2: We were served 3 items (for the entire table) instead of one. The waiter said "well, you ordered 3, but I will take them off the bill". That's great....but that isn't how it should have been phrased. We didn't order three. (he should have said "My mistake, I will take care of it") Case in point #3: Our steaks were cold, nothing more needs to be said. This place is supposed to be a 'Five Star' Restaurant. It isn't. Neither are their staff. (However, the hostesses & Valets, were top-notch) I attempted to buy a cigar and was ignored by the head bartender who was too busy for me - Another sale lost - Not to mention that I would have drank more booze/wine had I had a cigar. This steak house is as exquisite as it is expensive. It truly lives up to any and all hype it has been given. This restaurant is definitely upscale and you would want to dress accordingly when dining here. You must also make a reservation prior to arrival and even then you may expect a little wait. While waiting you can park yourself at the bar or, if you're feeling debonair, you may treat yourself to a premium cigar in their humidor (if you're into that.) Valet parking is complimentary with dinner, but I would still tip for good measure. The service is outstanding as you would expect at such a place. The menu items are surprisingly simplistic and minimal as opposed to long, complicated and over-bearing. I stuck with the ol' NY strip w/ garlic mashed potatoes and a big-ass steamed carrot on the side. It was glorious. Me and the date shared a slice of key lime pie for dessert and I finished off the evening's course with a glass of Johnnie Walker Black on the rocks. Simply amazing. During a full day of traveling from Chicago to Dallas-Forth Worth, I got a lot of envious looks when I told them I would be going to Bob's for dinner. The locals kept telling me that I was going to really enjoy it. Because I'm so avant garde, I was skeptical and very much prepared to be disappointed. Good ol' Bob did not disappoint. We ordered the Maryland-Style Crab Cakes, the Fried Calamari and the Onion Rings as appetizers. The crab cakes and calamari were pretty good. The onion rings were tasty and the size of one of those garish oversized bracelets you see young girls wearing on the Disney Channel. (Not that I watch the Disney Channel. Seriously. Don't judge me.) I ordered a medium 9 ounce Filet Mignon and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The outside was rich and flavorful with just a tad of crispiness. The inside was so soft, it just melted in your mouth. It was served with a carrot the size of most housecats and I chose the smashed potatoes as an extra side dish. The size of the sides were clearly Texan: they were humongous. To top it off, both sides seemed to be soaked in butter. I wasn't a big fan of the carrot which was a little sweet for my tastes but the potatoes were deliciously heart attack-inducing. The Brownie Sundae was Texas-sized also. The brownie itself wasn't too large but they piled on six or seven scoops of ice cream, which made it look like a large pile of dinosaur droppings ala Jurassic Park. After that dinner, I came back to the hotel singing its praises like the other tourists who were lucky enough to go to Bob's Steak & Chop House. Yes, wines are marked up, but you know what? If you don't like the prices, DON'T BUY IT. Fo' realz. I didn't have any wine because, yeah, the bottle they recommended for $200-something happens to be sitting on my wine rack... I think it was $30 at the Siegel's on Fitzhugh. Food-wise though, Bob's was on the map. I had a special which was two 3-oz. filets with a mushroom and shallot sauce and an Australian lobster tail. The steak was cooked a perfect medium - bright pink center. So many places can't even do that right! The lobster tail was rich, decadent - I couldn't even eat it all. Giant carrot lived up to its promises as did the garlic smashed potatoes. The chocolate peanut butter bonanza dessert was pretty damn good as well. Calamari appetizer was as good as one can expect from a steakhouse. Maybe I'm easy to please, but overall I couldn't be too disappointed in the experience. I was impressed with the meat quality and didn't feel the prices were too out there for what I got.
