I highly recommend Bode & Bode. They provide great customer service and are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They are super nice and patient too! I made back-to-back calls to Bode & Bode to ask for advice on replacing my front entry doorknob. The first time I called, Ethan was very helpful in suggesting that I take the doorknob with me when I went in to the store so that I could get the correct part. The second time I called, Casey answered and was extremely patient in walking me through how to remove the ancient doorknob. When I entered the store, I was immediately greeted and informed that someone would assist me shortly. I mentioned that Casey had helped me over the phone and I was told that he would be with me as soon as he finished what he was doing. Casey took a look at my old doorknob and said that I needed a 5 inch latch, which they had in stock. He helpfully explained how the doorknob was to be assembled and then passed me along to Ethan to finish the transaction. First VERY EXPENSIVE relative to work similar work done in past. Had them do a number of things but restrooms locks became a nightmare to get them to come out to install the correct locks we needed. They installed locks where customers keep locking the door behind themselves that requires constant questions whether restrooms are open or not and us walking in on customers that don't answer. 3 calls later for them to solve their original screw up of not install the correct restroom locks we requested, having to call another company out. I recently purchased my first home and was in need of new locks. I specifically wanted Medeco brand locks. I reached out to a few other locksmiths, but none carried Medeco. I found Bode & Bode listed on Medeco's website. After giving them a call, they confirmed that they did have stock. I called on July 1st and was scheduled for the next day. The appointment arrival window I was given during scheduling was between 1pm and 3pm. Arrival was a few minutes after 3pm, but work was started quickly. The work was complete in less than an hour and a half and the price I was charged ended up being a little lower than original quoted during scheduling. I just don't know where to start with the epically awesome review I want to give to Bode and Bode. They are located inconspicuously on 21st, between Capital and L streets. We live in a high water bungalow with doors that require a skeleton key. But the skeleton key had been long lost for a house which was built in 1900. I brought the locking mechanism to them at 5 minutes before they closed and I was greeted cheerfully! I began to write my pertinent information on an info sheet so I could leave the mechanism and they could create my key. Not 4 seconds into writing my info down a man appeared and put a key into the mechanism and turned it. SUCCESS! The key worked. I asked how much and they said, skiddadle! Ok, so let me start out this review with a word of advice - if you ride a bike, or use a U lock for any reason, take the 2 minutes and register the key! Otherwise, you will be like me - drunk, lost keys, no spare bike key, bike left on stop sign on 23rd and L for a week. Finally, I called Bode & Bode, who were eager to help. This rad man showed up in a van with all kinds of tools to try and pick the lock. After about an hour of almost-but-not-quites, he ended up using a gasoline powered circular saw to cut the lock off. Sparks flew about his feathered hair, he was kinda my hero. And he did it with a smile. Thanks dood. They are a bit pricier than other places to duplicate keys (which is why they lost a star), but the people who work there are awesome. The location is incredibly convenient as well. Several years ago, Bode and Bode fixed my front door locks. Not only was my deadbolt fixed, the technician correctly re-installed the door lock that my late husband had installed upside down. Today, I called to see if they come out and fix a stuck lock for the water heater closet. I was not looking forward to paying for a locksmith as well as a water heater repair. I needed a new main key cut for my car. I was down to my valet key, and that wouldn't lock or more importantly, UNLOCK the trunk, which was now locked closed. I took in My glove box lock cylinder for them to figure out how to cut a master key. The counter guy looked at my valet key, looked at the lock cylinder, and selected a thinner BMW blank from their wall. Quickly copied the key onto the new, thinner blank, and Voila! it worked. So instead of just assuming they would have to do the more expensive service and not bothering to solve the problem easily, he made it quick and simple and I now have a handful of extra keys. If I could give this business 10 stars, I would. I have a Can Am Spyder. The key broke off in the ignition. The dealer said the only way to fix it would be to replace the ignition. That would cost about $750 parts and labor. I called multiple locksmiths. All of them, except Bode and Bode, said they couldn't help me. I called Bode and Bode. Took the trike to them. It took 2 guys less than 30 minutes to get the fragment of the key out of the ignition. They charged me for 1/2 hour labor. It absolutely made my day. They saved me hundreds of dollars. Any licensed locksmith can install deadbolts or re-key existing door locks. Bode & Bode can do it but will charge lavish rates for labor and materials. Does anyone believe a lock technician actually earns $135/hour? Would you pay $85 for a deadbolt at Home Depot? Does paying $900+ to install three deadbolts sound like a good value? Before visiting Bode and Bode, I called in to see if they could make a copy of a lock box key that required a locksmith to make. The receptionist who answered the phone was not very helpful as her response was "well I cant see the key so I cant tell you if we can do it or not" and offered no further help. I decided to visit the store location despite the receptionists odd attitude and I was greeted by a young man who had a very helpful and pleasant demeanor. He quickly assessed the job and gave an estimate, 3 minutes later he had the key done. So avoid calling or dealing who every answers the phone at Bode and Bode. I work for a non-profit and we have used this company as our go to locksmith for the past 15 years but will not be using them again. Had to transfer our door lock software to a new computer. Tech shows up on time, spends about a half hour here, uses my flash drive to transfer the data but has to look at my manual to see if there are any instructions on how to do it. Seemed to me he had no idea what he was doing but somehow managed to get it figured out. Got the bill and was charged for an hour labor as well as an $85 service charge for a total of $220, which was very different than the quote I received over the phone. When I called to dispute it, they said the tech was here for 52 minutes (untrue) but that they would adjust it to a half hour of labor versus the hour. When I asked what time he said he was here from, they said 9:18 to 10:10, which is a lie. I don't even get here until 9:30 and he didn't show up till 9:40. The billing person didn't seem to care much when I brought this up. After hanging up, I realized I couldn't let it go so I called back to speak with the service manager. I let him know that I was grateful the billing person adjusted the invoice. I then told him I thought he should be aware that the technician was dishonest in reporting the time he was here. His response "okay, thanks". Are you kidding me??? It's very clear that they do not care about honesty or integrity at this company. read more
