For the food, whilst I'm not sure if it's very authentic, I felt it just lacked the flavor I've come to expect. The only things I really would eat again was the beef tenderloin (which is why the photo is missing some bites) and the pandan mochi cake. I also feel the prices were very high. We used to like this place a lot and have been many times, but seems like they are doing budget cuts as the value is way less there, especially for the chef's tasting menu. the food is still solid, but the 90 dollar pp tasting menu is not advised as we added up the total value they served us and it was below 90 pp. They cut out a whole 3 dishes vs the last time we were here over a year ago. Everything is also on the menu. When we brought this up to the servers, they gave a lot of weird explanations and then eventually added another dessert to make the value. I really enjoyed eating at Bodega! I came here with friends for a weekend lunch and was very pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. The shaking beef was the star and was flavorful and the perfect texture. We also all enjoyed the iced coffee, pho, and salad, too. The vibe was classy without being stuffy, especially because we were here at lunch. We came here because of the Chase Sapphire Reserve promo that they participate in, and found it was the best bang for our buck relative to other restaurants on the list. Bodega is highly rated and modern Vietnamese cuisine that is tucked away in an unassuming spot, it would be easy to walk right passed the restaurant if not looking carefully. Not flashy at all from the outside but once inside, it's a very clean, contemporary restaurant with the wood paneling, the high tables, bar area, as well as some regular tables sprinkled throughout. The staff are very busy but friendly. A steady stream of diners come in, but on this Sunday afternoon there was no wait for a table. They have a nice variety of Vietnamese dishes. Not in the nicest part of town in the Tenderloin, however the interior is nice. One of the best high end Vietnamese restaurants I've tried thus far in SF. For drinks, I got the Woke Up in Hanoi which was just the pick me up I needed because of the espresso. To share, we got the nem cha (cake cakes), Banh Cuon (one of my favorites), the Bun Cha (also a favorite - the noodles were very good, and this is like seared pork belly in a fish sauce like soup), mushrooms (so well done, it was buttery and tender) and Bu Luc Loc which were all extremely delicious. Overall, the food is flavorful, the ingredients are high quality, and the ambiance is stylish and inviting. That said, there were a few hiccups that held this place back from being truly great. Once those are ironed out, this could easily be a 5/5. Based on my most recent visit, I would give it around a 3.5, and I am rounding down slightly given the hiccups. If this were a casual hole in the wall, none of these issues would matter nearly as much, but with an upscale tier comes higher expectations. the appetizers are the star of the show. The banh cuon and nem cua were all full 5/5. Beautiful presentation, incredibly fresh herbs, perfectly chewy noodles, super flavorful meats, and deeply savory sauces that honestly transported me back to my trip to Hanoi a few years ago. Everything about them felt thoughtful and well executed. The dry pho landed arround a 3.5/5, not bad at all and the ingredients are high quality with real pieces of shrimp. Mixing all the colors and textures together with the savory soy based sauce was fun and satisfying even if it did not quite reach the same heights as the appetizers. Hiccups: We had an issue with bun cha where inside of one of the meatballs was clearly uncooked, the meat was pink/red and was very obviously raw, When we showed our waiter, even he looked shocked and immediately acknowledged that it was raw. However they replaced only the single meatball instead of the entire dish, which felt strange. we ended up not touching the rest of the dish because it was hard to trust that any of it would be properly cooked, honestly this would have been a non-issue had they replaced the entire dish. The other disappointing dish was the shaking beef. while the beef cut was def high quality, something went very wrong in the marinade. It tasted like it had been tenderized with too much baking soda or left for too long, causing the beef to completely lose its texture. Instead of having any chew, it was overly soft and crumbly, to the point where it felt like i was eating a piece of potato, instead of beef. For a dish that usually shines because of texture, this was really sad. We barely touched it after one bite, and I noticed nearby tables also leaving most of theirs untouched. Maybe it was an off day, but this is def an area they could easily improve upon. The service was okay, I understand it was busy and not having our servers attention 100% of the time is fine. Still our waters were constantly left unfilled and we had to ask him several times for refills or to bring us some sauce. at the end of the day, none of these hiccups were deal breakers, they merely explain why this particular visit fell short for me - I will be back again as i think they have a lot of potential, and will update my review if they improve read more

Fantastic spot with great flavorful dishes. I went here for a date, and was grateful I made a reservation. Doors opened at 11am, and at least one group which had lined outside the door was turned away immediately (staff mentioned they were out of tables and cited an estimated wait time). Interior is warm and intimate with a mix of seating options and ambiance was superb for a date setting. Service was professional and prompt. We got a shaking beef and a bun cha to share. I wasn't sure how the bun cha would look like from the menu description, but it was a fun dish. Meat and veggies in a sweet and sour soup which was very flavorful with side herbs and lettuce to add. The broth was probably our favorite thing in the restaurant we tried as it was really delicious. Made a reservation through open table for Monday night dinner time. Although it was super busy we were quickly sat as soon as we arrived! We started off the meal with the oysters and banh khot caviar and both were extremely impressive flavor profiles. The oysters were the best blend of spicy, tangy and refreshing. For the banh khot the caviar serving was smaller than expected, but that did not negate the incredible taste. For our mains we had the bun cha, crab fried rice and tiger prawns. The bun cha was salty yet sweet and reminded me of the dishes I had in Hanoi. The crab fried rice was good, but slightly salty. Bodega is one of the chase sapphire reserve exclusive tables and I'm really glad we chose to come here! The restaurant staff were super nice and attentive, and even let us split the check 4-way. We got the chef's choice menu ($90/person) and it's a great option if you are thinking of trying all the popular items PLUS we got extra off-menu item as well. Just keep in mind that it's family style so everyone at the table must opt in. I left feeling super full and satisfied overall. I booked the last time slot they had for the day which was 10 pm. Ordering was basically last call, and the space was almost empty as they were wrapping up for the night. We came to snack and have drinks to start the night. Our host gave our group the nice corner booth in the front and gave recommendations for their most popular drinks. Our server Moz(?), a kind gentleman, was quick and attentive. DRINKS: Unfortunately, Blue Beauty was unavailable so I went with the Saigon Smash which was light and very decent. Saigon Smash tasted like a lighter mojito with a hint of sugar cane. I taste tested the Mango OT, Sweet and Soursop, and the Bodega Old Fashioned as well. The Mango OT was good but had a strong Thai chili flavor, almost like the Mango tamarind candy lollipop. The Sweet and Soursop is an acquired taste, I liked it but some of my friends did not enjoy the aftertaste. I would describe the aftertaste as similar to a Longan fruit shell, which I didn't mind. The Bodega Old Fashioned was nice and strong. FOOD: We ordered Banh Cuon (Rice rolls), Chinese Long Beans, and Bo Luc Lac (Shaken Beef). The Banh Cuon was served authentically which I enjoyed. The fish sauce was light and not overpowering. My group seemed to really enjoy the Chinese Long Beans which was topped with dry shrimp. I literally try to come here every time I visit SF. I highly recommend the Bun Cha and Lemongrass Pork Chop. Bun Cha is full of flavor and a nice smokiness from the grilled pork meatballs, the sauce is just mouthwatering to even think about now. Meatballs were laced with lemongrass and spices. Really great bites. My favorite was the fish! They used a branzino for the cha ca. I have been meaning to try Bodega out for years and finally decided to take my mom here when she was visiting. We did walk in on a Tuesday night and it was very busy - we waited about 30 minutes for a table although there was earlier seating available at the bar. Ordered a couple different dishes to try and the waiter was very helpful in giving his input on what would go well together and whether the amount of food would be too much/little. The bo luc lac was our favorite by far - so tender and the beef chunks literally melted in your mouth. I do wish there was more beef as a bulk of the dish was potatoes and pearl onions. Nem cua was okay, nothing to note. I would probably pass on this next time. Papaya salad is a must get for me whenever I see it on a menu and this one was good, not great. First time trying the pho from Bodega, which we had delivered to the office. I typically don't order pho to go, but the packaging was organized with three parts - the bowl with noodles and meat, a wrapped bundle of bean sprouts and basil, and the broth. There was almost more broth than could fit in the bowl, but the broth itself was savory and managed to be both clean and rich at the same time. In my opinion, the broth is the most important part of pho, and Bodega did well the nuanced flavors of the spices and herbs that went into it. It would have been ideal to have more basil - my order had only about 3 sprigs of it. The meat was also cut in large pieces which made it hard to assemble the perfect bite with noodles, vegetables, meat, and broth. I'm also used to having tendon and meatballs in my pho (as part of a traditional pho dac biet) which Bodega's version didn't have. Overall, the pho was quite good and hit the spot. While this is a 3/5, this is based on my takeout experience and not a dine-in (though I've been to the actual restaurant once on a separate occasion for dinner and gave that a 4/5). My friend visiting from LA and I met here for a spontaneous dinner meetup. I arrived first and was informed of a 45-minute wait-time. Since we wanted Vietnamese food, we grabbed drinks at another venue nearby while waiting. When we finally got seated, I scanned the menu and noticed it appeared quite small compared to what I remembered from a year ago when I ordered takeout. They used to have a standout pho (menu item Pho Hanoi), and I was excited for my friend to try, but it was missing from the menu, along with all the other soup and non-vermicelli noodle dishes from before. When I inquired about the pho, I was informed by staff that it's only available at lunch or from the pre fixe tasting menu. Although disappointed, my friend and I still decided upon a couple of plates to share. They were quite delicious, and we liked both, but I really wish they'd bring the pho back as a regular dinner menu item. read more

VERYY mid tasting viet food that does NOT justify the overpriced ambiance. a consistent observation i have for this place is that every single dish is missing that SOMETHING, the flavor depth and taste-satisfying element. everything here tastes and is priced worse than any other local vietnamese place in sf, and definitely comes nowhere CLOSE to SJ places. i've been twice for lunch and service is fine. food came out in a relatively decent time. i feel like folks come here because it's more a luxury/modern feel and that it's convenient. both times i came here were for convenience's sake, since i have other activities around the area i had planned. the ONLY food part that was very memorable that i recommend is rare filet mignon in the beef pho because it was actually very tender and retained buttery, beefy flavor. but everything else, even the beef pho itself is underwhelming. the pho broth, banh cuon, lemongrass wings, sauces ALL lacks any flavor depth. shaking beef was not memorable, and sugar juice is fine. i really tried a bunch and unfort, i am very disappointed. idk if i could come back. i would IFFFF someone PERSONALLY vouches and pays for dinner, since the dinner menu looks way more beefier and pricer compared to lunch. sigh. read more

Delicious food, fast and attentive service, and great atmosphere. Our table agreed everything we tried was amazing Usually when I go to Vietnamese restaurants I order the same thing but there were so many dishes that looked good we let the server recommend for us. Would definitely recommend trying it out! Amazing food, but overwhelmingly crowded, but great staff! We came during the last week of 2025 when everyone was trying to use their Chase Sapphire dining credits. The amount of take out orders that piled in non-stop made all the dine in folks wait extra long. Food was good. Their chicken wings were definitely the highlight of the meal. Great upscale Vietnamese spot with the right vibes. I've been here for lunch twice and for dinner once. For lunch, I ordered the filet mignon Hanoi style pho both times. The broth and the noodles are exceptional. The thing that really sets this pho apart from others is that they serve it with this crispy Chinese donut section that you can dip in the broth. So delicious. My partner ordered the salad and said he thought it was too sweet. I tasted it and agreed it was a little on the sweet side. For dinner, we ordered: Bo Tai Chan (filet mignon carpaccio with basil, crispy shallots and citrus nuoc mam. This was bursting with flavor and had excellent texture between the silky beef and crunchy shallots. Thit Kho Mushrooms: Maitake and ertrinji mushrooms caramelized in fish sauce. These were delicious but also subtle. The fish sauce didn't overwhelm the mushroom flavor. Nice texture. Bun Cha: Noodle soup with pork belly and pork meatballs and pickled veg. Good lord this was delicious. The broth was nothing short of transcendent. I think you are supposed to dip the vermicelli in it and pull out pork and make lettuce wraps, but the broth was so good we threw most of the noodles in the bowl and drank it like soup. Definitely get this. Pandan mochi w/ lychee ice cream: This was a fantastic dessert. I love anything pandan. The pandan mochi was less sweet and warm and gooey and the ice cream was sweeter and cold so it was very well balanced The cocktails here are great as well. Had a gimlet with pandan and chrysanthemum. They don't hit quite as hard as the cocktailsnext door at Kin Khao do, but they are nothing to scoff at. If you like Vietnamese food, give this place a try. It's fancy but they don't sacrifice flavor or authenticity for it. read more

I recently came to Bodega for lunch. It's been a couple of years since I've last dined here but the food still great. We shared the bahn cuon (rice rolls with ground pork and woodear mushrooms), vietnamese chicken salad, and hoi an chicken rice. Everything was delicious! I always love a good bahn cuon and the one here is the perfect app for sharing with a yummy nuoc mam sauce and fish cakes. The vietnamese chicken salad is great as well, a light chicken cabbage slaw with crispy shallots to give it a nice crunch and a delicious sweet chili lime sauce. The chicken rice here is a little dry but I do appreciate the savory chicken broth on the side. Prices are reasonable for downtown and it's definitely a good spot for a quick lunch. There are always solo diners eating at the bar during lunchtime. read more

Very disappointed with my experience at Bodega Restaurant in SF. I ordered the dry noodles, and honestly, it was terrible. The dish had mostly noodles, only two shrimps and a few slices of cucumbers, and the flavor was not good at all. Paying $19 for such a small amount of toppings felt unbelievable and completely not worth it. Also, the sugarcane drink cost $7, but the cup was super small. For the price, I expected much better quality and portion size. Overall, this place was a huge disappointment for me. Definitely not worth the money. Sadly, I would never come back and would not recommend this restaurant to my friends or family. read more

Came here since it was on open table's "experiences" through chase sapphire. Glad the meal was basically "paid for" because I likely wouldn't come here otherwise. We came at an odd time and maybe that was why. It is located very close to the tenderloin. There was only one other person in the restaurant. They took some time to help us and food was a tad slow. The interior was nice but benches and such were not clean. The drinks looked good and I considered ordering but couldn't find the menu and the person assisting us rarely came back to check on us so I just let it be. We ordered some appetizers (spring rolls), pho, wings, and the beef entrees dish. Some of the food was too salty. Our kids liked the beef dish with rice so that was a win. Not sure I would come back, but it was fun to try something new. read more
