I literally try to come here every time I visit SF. I highly recommend the Bun Cha and Lemongrass Pork Chop. Bun Cha is full of flavor and a nice smokiness from the grilled pork meatballs, the sauce is just mouthwatering to even think about now. The pork chop is very well marinated and tender, I usually like to take any leftover sauce from the Bun Cha and pour a little onto my rice and pork chop for all the flavors hahaha make sure to give this spot a try! I recently came to Bodega for lunch. It's been a couple of years since I've last dined here but the food still great. We shared the bahn cuon (rice rolls with ground pork and woodear mushrooms), vietnamese chicken salad, and hoi an chicken rice. Everything was delicious! I always love a good bahn cuon and the one here is the perfect app for sharing with a yummy nuoc mam sauce and fish cakes. The vietnamese chicken salad is great as well, a light chicken cabbage slaw with crispy shallots to give it a nice crunch and a delicious sweet chili lime sauce. The chicken rice here is a little dry but I do appreciate the savory chicken broth on the side. Prices are reasonable for downtown and it's definitely a good spot for a quick lunch. Great upscale Vietnamese spot with the right vibes. I've been here for lunch twice and for dinner once. For lunch, I ordered the filet mignon Hanoi style pho both times. The broth and the noodles are exceptional. The thing that really sets this pho apart from others is that they serve it with this crispy Chinese donut section that you can dip in the broth. So delicious. My partner ordered the salad and said he thought it was too sweet. I tasted it and agreed it was a little on the sweet side. For dinner, we ordered: Bo Tai Chan (filet mignon carpaccio with basil, crispy shallots and citrus nuoc mam. This was bursting with flavor and had excellent texture between the silky beef and crunchy shallots. Thit Kho Mushrooms: Maitake and ertrinji mushrooms caramelized in fish sauce. These were delicious but also subtle. The fish sauce didn't overwhelm the mushroom flavor. Nice texture. Bun Cha: Noodle soup with pork belly and pork meatballs and pickled veg. Good lord this was delicious. The broth was nothing short of transcendent. I think you are supposed to dip the vermicelli in it and pull out pork and make lettuce wraps, but the broth was so good we threw most of the noodles in the bowl and drank it like soup. Definitely get this. Pandan mochi w/ lychee ice cream: This was a fantastic dessert. I love anything pandan. The pandan mochi was less sweet and warm and gooey and the ice cream was sweeter and cold so it was very well balanced The cocktails here are great as well. Had a gimlet with pandan and chrysanthemum. They don't hit quite as hard as the cocktailsnext door at Kin Khao do, but they are nothing to scoff at. If you like Vietnamese food, give this place a try. It's fancy but they don't sacrifice flavor or authenticity for it. read more

If you're expecting a typical Vietnamese restaurant, then you should not be coming here expecting that. they serve a more fusion style Vietnamese cuisine. Host was pleasant and nice. Server seems to hate the job and not wants to be there. We got the lemon grass chicken I give this 3/10. I highly suggest to pass on this one. The Bo luc lac "shaken beef", it is not your typical Vietnamese dish. The rice portion was more than the meat and potatoe itself. We literally got 5 piece of beef and like 13 piece of potato. It was like a 80/20 ratio. Maybe also due to that the meat was smaller cube size and the potato was cut a bit chunkier. They try to fill you up with the starch and make the plate seem more than what it is. If you get a regular shaken beef dish at other places, it's usually a lot of beef and bell peppers and even a nice salad to accommodate it. The beef tastes good for the 5 pieces they gave. But I rather would get the same meal for $22 at another spot and that itself will fill me up versus getting this for $26. Not worth it. The flavor of the dish was on point just not the portion and pricing on it. I don't think is fair. 6.5/10 Beef pho was really terrible. I never tasted pho like that ever before. Soup doesn't even taste like it's been cooking for hours with aromatics or even beef bones or onions and ginger. Taste like it came from a seasoning bag from a pho in a bag from the store and they strained it to get the impurities out and it taste like flavor Starnaise water. Or possibly made a couple hours from us receiving it. Again this is my personal opinion. 3/10 read more

I had heard about this before and finally had a chance to try. Great place for a very nice, pre-theater show meal here on a Tuesday night. Good modern vietnamese dishes with nice flavors. I started with a rum and pineapple cocktail that our server recommended and enjoyed it. For dinner, we had the Bo Tai Chanh seared filet dish, which was almost like caparccio, and Banh Cuon rice noodle roll... and both were very tasty and delicate dishes. We also were able to add an order of tasty garlic noodles and a mini-beef pho noodle bowl that wasn't on the a la carte menu. The pho was part of their tasting menu (they only serve pho a la carte at lunch) but our server was nice enough to let us order it, and it was perfect size for us to share. We finished up with a panna cotta with red beans that had a hint of tea flavor and was not too sweet and yummy. The food and service was very good. My only caution is that it is very loud where my wife and I sometimes had to almost shout to hear each other, so I wouldn't go there for an intimate and quiet dinner but it was nice for our anniversary and pre-show meal!! Bonus thoughts: parking is only on the street or nearby garages...the neighborhood on Mason Street didn't feel as sketchy as in the past where we parked, and we felt relatively safe, so kudos to SF leaders for helping clean up the Union Square area (however, be careful if you're looking to park just a couple blocks over in the Tenderloin on Jones St). read more

Reducing my rating further to 3 stars after finding this lie on their website: "The 6% SF mandate is a city-required fee to help cover local costs and regulations." As you hopefully know by now, there is no such thing as an SF Mandate or Health SF Tax, these are just restaurants voluntarily passing on costs of doing businesses as hidden fees, rather than raising prices. As I've said many times, I strongly support higher pay for restaurant workers, and am glad that San Francisco requires restaurants to pay living wages and provide healthcare for formers, just like almost every other business in the city already does. The best bite of this particular SF trip was the oysters with smoked trout roe, which was salty and fresh cut by their condensed milk + markut lime + serrano pepper sauce. Update: I can't believe I have to go back in time and update my review about this situation. I used a brand new credit card for my meal and I just received a credit card FRAUD charge. The last time I've ever used this cc was at this establishment. I've only used this credit card twice since opening it - once at Trader Joe's through Apple Pay in September and here, at Bodega last month. When you do Apple Pay, your Apple wallet generates different numbers so scammers can't get your info. So obviously, the credit card fraud came from here especially since they take your card away from you when you pay. It could've been the cashier or an employee zooming into the security cameras on costumers' credit card numbers. read more

The Banh Cuon and Bun Cha were so tasty and the ingredients tasted so fresh. The dishes were not too oily or salty which made these dishes light and shareable. The Banh Khot took us to flavortown, hands down a top contender for our favorite dish here. We ordered a few cocktails - we asked the bartender, Jayden, to add any alcohol he recommended to the normally Zero Proof cocktails (specifically the Very Berry Margarita and Dry Vacations) and he did not disappoint since these drinks came out SO GOOD. Staff were all so accommodating and service was quick. Such a lively and spacious spot for a weekend or near-weekend lunch/ dinner! After dinner, don't forget to check out the Felix which is an underground lounge just below Bodega :) The Felix is open Thursday to Sunday evenings and there's usually a DJ there so you and your friends can dance the night away! read more

Staying in Downtown San Francisco while in town for a tech tradeshow I am working. Got in today and wanted to get some lunch. Found a recommended Vietnamese restaurant on Yelp within walking distance. Cool little place, nice decor. I was alone so I sat at the bar (right in the middle of the restaurant). I was served by a very nice bartender - Bryan. Who made recommendations and explained the plates and sauces. I started with a Nem Nuong Spring Roll (pork-based). It was super fresh and the pork gave it a salty cracker. It came with a good dipping sauce (not sweet). I also ordered a Pho (noodle) dish: Dry Hu Tieu, which had shrimp, chicken, ground pork and fish cake (probably my favorite) and it came with a side of chicken broth loaded with onions (in a good tasty way, think french onion soup). Anyway, everything came out quick, was tasty and was filling. I was working that afternoon so I did not order a drink or dessert. Very good place, great & friendly service, and prices were reasonable (plus my hotel gave me a 15% off coupon). I would recommend reservations for dinner. read more

We were shopping at Union Square in San Francisco in late August 2025 afternoon. We wanted to grab a bite to eat and my wife search for near by restaurants since many have closed since COVID19 pandemic including several of our "go to" places around Union Square. Thankfully she discovered Bodega which was only a few walking blocks from our.location to stroll to. Its near The San Francisco Hilton and the Park 55 operated by Hilton and has a nice entry where we were greeted by a friendly hostess. She asked only party of my wife and I wanted to sit at the bar which had a large television playing a futbol game. We were seated at a table for four as she slept away the other two place settings efficiently. Our server Spencer welcomed us with a bright and kind welcome and asked if we had any questions or needed to order any drinks or cocktails given it was 1:45 pm. We had both walked in with our recently ordered StarBucks drinks from Macy's and he was understanding. They have an interesting drink and wine selections, and we would usually order a "festive" or signature cocktails, but not today. We were both pretty hungry. We usually share our small and entrée selections and today was no exception. We order the fresh Spring Rolls with Tofu with a peanut sauce that was delicious for.dipping! Also. we shared the Hoi An Chicken Rice we "assembled" which was very good! It had lemon grass rice, citrus herb Free-Range chicken with a side of chicken both. In addition, we selected Pho Ga, with Free-range Chicken and chicken both. Excellent! All our selections were very fresh, eye appealing and delicious. We have many Vietnamese dishes over the decades, and Bodega does a very good job in upholding the cuisine tastes, focus on fresh herbs and vegetables and quality meats. Spencer brought us some orange hot sauce (I am color blind so my told me it was "orange"), regardless I really enjoyed it and I put it on everything! Authentic flavors and reasonable prices! The location is bordering on a shadier part of SF so beware. The interior is a calm relaxed but hip vibe. We ordered the pork belly and shakshuka to share. I had a flight land in San Francisco that put me right at the lunch hour and before I could check into my hotel. I was looking for a good lunch spot in Union Square and was I ever so happy to find Bodega! First off, most Vietnamese restaurants don't offer banh cuon. This was a staple of my childhood when my parents would come back from grocery shopping in the Vietnamese neighborhood and pick it up from a deli. No brainer to order it! I got that and shrimp spring rolls and that was more than filling for lunch. I would have even taken some of it to go if only my hotel had a fridge :) It wasn't the OG taste that you could find in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Little Saigon, but if you're craving Vietnamese food, this hits the spot. TLDR: Decent food, elevated vibes, but grossly overpriced. Not worth it for an elevated Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant is located near Market st and Union Square. Parking is a little tricky -- there is street parking, but not in the best/cleanest area. The inside of the restaurant is nice and cool -- dimly lit, chic. We got the banh khot (16$ per piece) which we thought was decent at best, nothing to write home about. You couldn't taste the caviar at all and felt like a gimmick. The crab fried rice (67$, MP for July) was very dry and didn't taste like truffle at all. We were disappointed by the lack of flavor. Would skip on this too. The beef pho (9.5$) was decent -- for dinner they don't have the full bowl so it's a mini bowl. It's 1/3 the size of a regular pho you'd get at your local pho restaurant. The lamb (38$) was the highlight of the dinner! The lamb was juicy and cooked perfectly. The sauce complemented the lamb very well. The potatoes were cooked perfectly as well. This one was worth it. The service was great -- attentive and friendly staff. I see some other reviewers mentioning how this is a good elevated Vietnamese spot. We came at an odd time and maybe that was why. It is located very close to the tenderloin. There was only one other person in the restaurant. They took some time to help us and food was a tad slow. You'll know real quick though if you don't get one of them. The actual disappointment is the food. The must avoid at absolute all cost: - Bo Ne - Ribeye Banh mi - Bodega Beef Pho The meh, let it ride: - Dry hu tieu - Sugarcane Juice - Viet iced coffee The yum, now this is the hype you came for: - Lemongrass Wings - Banh Cuon Everything above, that's me being conservative. Honestly only the wings were fire, get that. Let's breakdown the rest. Banh Cuon: Mid, but when everything else was cheeks this slid up. The Cha Lua if made in house, sucks. The banh cuon, is okay. The fish sauce, ehh if it was better would make it truly deserving of the yum tier. Viet iced coffee: They have their barista shaking it like a cocktail, cute... But really, no issues it's fine and worth picking as your drink for sure. Sugarcane juice: Tasty, glad they didn't mess that up Dry Hu Tieu: you know it's a problem when some of your noodles are dry/uncooked. Pull out some of those strands while your eating and you can still give it a pass. Best thing in the bowl, the fishcakes. Also bomb, their sauce to go with it. If the whole bowl was just this pho noodle + fish cakes + that sauce as sad as that would be, would make it a fire bowl yum tier. Everything else in that bowl is a crime. Dry drrry chicken, unforgettable whatever else was in there. The side of broth was cool, lighter broth than the banh mi's, guessing chicken pho broth. Bodega Beef Pho: What an atrocity. Others have complained about the soup broth not being hot. I'll exaggerate and say it was cold, the reality was that at BEST, it was luke warm. I'm talking when it hit the table I immediately give it the 1st sip and I don't notice the flavor I notice "why's this shit cold". The 1st theory is it got made and left on the counter, then brought to me much later. But then that wouldn't explain how until the last bite of pho, why was the meat still raw and never cooked through. As if, it wasn't hot enough to begin with..... What a mystery. Ribeye Banh Mi: yeah don't even call it a Ribeye that's disrespectful. Bread, old everything about it, pathetic. Left it sitting there along with the next dish below to pass on a message... Bo Ne: O.M.G. Actually this is the winner. For the literal worst, most disgusting, and embarrassing dish here. The worst Bo Ne I've genuinely ever had in my life. To this point I didn't think you could even mess it up. How do you manage to overcook the eggs, and also have the meat come out dry and rubbery. Like seriously and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, THIS WAS CHEEKS. Don't ever disgrace this dish again, fahhh outta here with that. Nah but all in all, ya come here if ya got that other agenda to fulfill iykyk but if not and you're genuinely those folks walking in line with no reservation wasting 30+ minutes of your life waiting, I feel bad for you cause it's not worth a second of that at all. I could say a lot more, but I'll keep it at that. Dinner is probably still fine assuming the night crew/chef steps up/switches in, otherwise just stick to the agenda and keep it moving. Not in the nicest part of town in the Tenderloin, however the interior is nice. One of the best high end Vietnamese restaurants I've tried thus far in SF. For drinks, I got the Woke Up in Hanoi which was just the pick me up I needed because of the espresso. To share, we got the nem cha (cake cakes), Banh Cuon (one of my favorites), the Bun Cha (also a favorite - the noodles were very good, and this is like seared pork belly in a fish sauce like soup), mushrooms (so well done, it was buttery and tender) and Bu Luc Loc which were all extremely delicious. Will be back! Sadly they didn't have pho or soup noodles, so hoping their menu will rotate to be able to try it. read more

Everything was wonderfully flavored although the mussels did fall flat for some in the group. The Bad: Our dinner service was paced well for the first 8 courses. Came for a second time in years! Service was great. We got sat at our reservation time and waiter was attentive. We started with oysters which I didn't like, the sauces didn't go with the oysters. We got the carpaccio because they were out of the tartare and it was a great choice. It was the best thing we ate. We got the bun cha and sea bass. Bun cha was good but overhyped. The sea bass was not that great but big portion. We also got the banh cuon which was good but not anything out the ordinary that I can get for cheaper at a viet restaurant. Experience was good. What's going on with Bodega SF? Did they change the chefs? Or did they literally swap out a new operation team? This store is used to be my go-to-store for Pho Ha Noi and bun cha and dry hu tieu: to the point that there're times in my life that I had to order take-outs from them once or twice per week. I cannot even remember how many times I recommended this restaurant to my "non-asian" friends. Now the food quality is so bad. They messed up the order so badly- I paid 5$ more for extra fillet meat for my Pho and showing up at my front door was the Pho without even garnishes: onions, celeries etc. And yes, the 5$ extra fillet was missing for sure but that was not the worst part: the flavor was completely different - it tasted so bad: sour and weird that I found myself finally giving up on them and didn't even bother to claim refund for missing items from Uber Eat. Even their Banh cuon was terrible. Where were few slices of pork patty that it used to be accompanied with? That's not what you should cut costs. I will not order from this store any more, unless it could bring back the OG flavors it used to have at the beginning. read more

I have to be honest: I am not quite sure what all the hubbub about Bodega exactly is. Everything about my experience screamed "OK." The venue and atmosphere? OK. The service? OK. The food? Again, OK. I do like Vietnamese food, and everything here was competently and authentically made. The quality of the ingredients seemed pretty good: the rice was freshly made; the noodles were the right consistency. I was even pleased that the prices--although a little high--seem very much in keeping with such a pricey location. And yet, it was all a bit of a letdown. The plating and presentation were fairly minimalist--not in an artistic way, but in a "get it out as as quickly as possible" way. Tastes were agreeable and authentic, but not comparable to a small hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese spot that you might find in East San Jose or Oakland. If you are in the area, Bodega is certainly a reasonable choice. But compared to the embarrassment of good and cheap Asian cuisine around the Bay, I was thinking that it should have been more. read more

Always love the food here! Especially the truffle potato & steak, the beef tartare, and also the crab fried rice! The service is good, nothing super special but the food does come pretty fast. The environment is a bit on the smaller side, and it is located in the Tenderloin. Regardless, the food here is still really good and worth coming back to! read more

The food here is excellent. Not your traditional Vietnamese pho joint but higher end with unique dishes and excellent flavors. Every dish that was curated by the staff recommendation was great. We let them pick everything based on our pallet preferences. Very accommodating. I have been meaning to come here for a long time and this place did not disappoint. Very warm and inviting. Full bar with excellent cocktails. High top seating and I hear there is a club downstairs. I also got a small sample of the excellent northern style pho ga. The broth is the best! read more
