Been going here for a month now and so far all things are great. The staff were very welcoming when I came in looking for information and made me feel comfortable right away so I signed up. The atmosphere here is nice, the staff are very friendly and always welcome you when you come through the doors. There is a good variety of equipment and I haven't seen it super busy since I signed up so I can pretty much get on whatever I want to during my workout. I've lost weight, gained strength and confidence and even the manager that got me signed up noticed and gave me recognition for my work so far. Had a way better experience at Body Xchange this year around. Jorge and Cece were welcoming and provided a wonderful experience in assisting me with getting set up at this gym. The gym itself is in good condition and there isn't a lot of traffic which makes it a nice workout out space. The prices for a membership are also affordable for what it's worth. read more

I've been looking for a new gym and decided to try this one out since my friend goes here. The gym was nice but the girl who checked me on gave me the dirtiest look in the world. As if I'm not already upset about being at the gym at 8am now I have to deal with her stanky ass attitude, when all I did was walk in say good morning and that's it. I believe her name is Shaunu, not sure if I spelled it right. Customer service is huge and that was a complete set off from that point. The last thing I want is to be working out and have someone giving dirty looks as if I was trying to start something from her. Just because of that I decided to not get a membership with this gym. Thats right, now if you are training near the desks where employees sit, and unlike many guys working out their jaws, you are smashing a sick barbell workout. Expect to be corrected by some effeminate dude who's ears get offended because you are about 25 minutes in your circuit, breathing heavy, drenched in sweat, and you sinfully let the weight down rough. I recently changed employment had my membership since 2005 told them i have to cancel. I work in porterville ca there is no body X-change in the city of porterville. I went to the gym they said you have to call this number we can not cancel you at this time. body X-change can sign you up take your money and credit card info but they can not cancel you. "wow " makes a lot of sense. The East side gym is a disgrace anyways compared to the others. Let me Just say I've been a member here for 6 or 7 years, and a member before when it was 24 hour fitness...This place blows even harder now than EVER BEFORE! and I've even tried to give them grace while dealing with covid. They had to mark off 1/2 their cardio equipment for covid, ok I understand. But the 1/2 that you can use, Most of it is BROKE FOR MONTHS NOW! And you can't use the one to the left or right because covid...but they won't move the equipment around so that all of it works, I guess that makes too much sense! You would think they would take advantage of this time and fix their stuff that doesn't work.... Never mind the 3 people working out together On the chest bench, they can do that but you can stand next to someone you drove with to do cardio.... covid! oh and don't ask them to put the game on, they aren't allowed to change the channel, and staff can't figure out the remote control to change any of the other tv's. Also make sure you leave your bag in the car, you can't have gym bags?!? but make sure you bring your phone, ear buds, towel and water bottle(also they turned off the water fountain so make sure you got that water bottle) and carry all that with you from spot to spot. While there's definitely paper towels to wipe down equipment they won't stock the bathroom with any, so all these meetheads either won't wash their hands or walk out of the bathroom with them dripping wet, you would think with hand hygiene being so big right now they would double down on that like they did with everything else, guess not! This is probably my second favorite location from this company! I love that is so close to Bakersfield College and it is so big and it has a vast amount of machines. HOWEVER expect to find 1 out of 2 machines "out of service" so that is slightly annoying. Even though they have many machines broken, I always find another one, in a reasonable time and even during its peak hours, so I can't fully complain. Hence why I mentioned why its so big! It allows many people do many exercises. Also their workout room is perfect, just like their staff! I noticed a lot of "young" and "middle aged" people go here which kinda balances itself out. read more

A good clean gym with a helpful staff, but it's definitely a budget gym. The gym has all of the basic gym necessities and an aerobics room. The gym is relatively busy during the week and has plenty of gym bros who "call" machines although they're halfway across the gym. Besides that inconvenience, the gym is relatively free during the weekend and around peak hours. There is the opportunity to join classes and plenty of free weights to go around. The gym provides a scale and locker rooms. Get your workout life started, don't forget to warm up and cool down! read more

This place is pretty run down, there are various issues that I've seen pop up over and over again and it seems management isn't too keen about fixing anything promptly. The mirror has been cracked for months now, the floor is warped near the squat racks, there seems to be something broken every other day, the some weights are unmarked so you don't know what you're lifting, and it makes the place seem old and dirty. I heard this place used to be great back in the day, but it's in poor condition now. The people are nice, it's $30 for a month, the main manager is very friendly, but still the gym does not look presentable. Would not recommend to anyone that has standards. read more

I haven't worked out in months because of covid but my husband and I pay our monthly dues because we like to support this club and are very loyal clients. Today, after maybe 8 months of not going to the gym, I decided to go work out. I'm in my car and I used my blue tooth to call so I can find out their schedule. A woman named MARIA answered the phone. I asked if they have a new schedule and she said "IT'S ONLINE" and then puts the phone down. I wondered if she would come back. Then she picked up the phone and gave me the time I could go. I told her she was a little rude and she said "OK." In this world of covid and uncertainty, a little politeness and kindness goes a long way. I don't need an apology but I refused to be treated with disrespect, no one does. Let's be kind to one another. read more

First of all, this is one long review. I have portioned it off in sections so you may read the portion that you are most interested in. This review is mostly in regards to the White Lane location; however, I have seen common issues at the Panama, Rosedale, East Bakersfield, and Downtown locations. Which is why I've decided to copy and paste this review onto those Yelp listings as well. Intro: I'm sorry to say I must update my review on this gym. I have been a member of this gym from the moment I was legally able to sign a contract on my own. Some Pros and Cons: Being here for 8 years, I've seen it all. Yes, I've dealt with the lack of hygiene, the broken machines, the inconvenience to members when they make repairs/remodel, the unprofessional staff (some of the staff are great, but about 70% are terrible), the shitty music, and the contract issues. I've dealt with it all, why do I stay? The basketball court, the people, and the convenient locations. Don't get me wrong, this gym does have positives. The people who come here are great people and they're very down to earth. Some of the staff members are very friendly and actually greet you with a smile when you make eye contact. I've never felt uncomfortable here and I've always gotten great workouts at this location. However, it's tough overlooking all the negatives. I mean, I've been a loyal member and I value that a lot; however, I don't feel the loyalty is appreciated whatsoever. As a member of this club, I really do feel like just a number. A number in the accounting books of the owner when he sees my payment come through every month. Customer Service: The recent management of the boxing area and the basketball court have made me decide on rewriting my review. I understand not all members treat the facilities with respect. I understand a few members can be "bad apples." However, that does not mean you "punish" the rest of the people who pay a membership fee to access your facilities. If part of the facilities are not permitted for use, does that mean part of our monthly payment can be withheld? Doesn't work that way. I respect the owner as a business man; however, my opinion is that he's got it all wrong in terms of customer service. The customer is ALWAYS right, and in this case the customer is not being treated as a customer, rather as a child. It is very disrespectful to all members who come here, pay on time, and treat the facilities with care. Customer service is huge in this industry, and I believe Body Exchange is lacking the proper training for it's entire staff corporation wide. For example, during this recent mismanagement of the facilities I came up to one of the trainers and respectfully expressed my concern. He immediately defended the actions made to close down part of the facilities saying (this is to the best of my memory), "Well now hopefully we can have some of the members appreciate and respect the basketball floor. Maybe we can learn from this." I felt like he was talking to "us" as children. Us referring to the people who play basketball often. I asked why this course of action was taken so swiftly and drastically when there was never a notice of the concern. There were never any signs posted to please clean up (I understand this is common courtesy, but some people do need reminders). He replied, "Well it's something you should know to do. We also said a few things word of mouth." I'm there quite regularly and never did I see a staff member come onto the basketball floor and express the concern. NOT ONCE did he say "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Or a "you're right, we could've done this instead." Remember, the customer is ALWAYS right. I don't want to name anyone on here. The gentleman is usually very kind and welcoming. I always say hello to him and he greets me in return. I have nothing against him I just disagreed with his responses to my question. Contract issues: Unfortunately, I'm running out of room to explain this issue. Yelp just told me to wrap it up. I will sum it up by saying, BE CAREFUL WHEN ENTERING A CONTRACT WITH BX. All of these gyms have managers who's focus is to increase numbers. It's more about quantity rather than quality for them; and if something comes up to where you have to terminate your contract, THEY WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU. Trainers: A lot of them have come and gone in the last few years. I don't deal with them personally, but that must tell you something about their work environment or how management deals with them. Love this gym and am here every chance I get. Best budget gym ever! Great selection of equipment, Audio visual at cardio, some sports drinks/bars, good hours, dressing rooms, lockers, free weights, Smith machine, clean gym, exercise class too. Good parking. Quiet when i go, friendly, focused and to the point. For serious fitness geeks like me. Busy hours are 3pm to 8p. I go really early or late. No gym bros call my machine from across the room-F that. This gym is perfect for me lots of free weights and stepmasters is a must for my daily workout. I don't know why so many are complaining about the equipment the weights are used but not broken and the atmosphere is great I'm just glad I get to workout before the crowds set in at 4-8pm. In order to work out at this gym all patrons must put valuables into lockers that are not secure. This is unrealistic because when lockers are not secure ,who wants to have things in their pockets while running and working out etc.? read more

The staff does a good job keeping up business despite the regulations with spaced out treadmills, required masks, etc. On top of that, a cleaning crew goes in 3 times a day. The worst gym in Bakersfield. There is absolute no supervision of the floor to hold people accountable for not re-racking weights or cleaning off the machinery once they're finished. This is solely experience the service at Body Xchange. I like, many others before me tried to cancelled a membership, not my own, but my son's. Went in, paid his late payment, as we had a debit card expire, and decided we can pay and cancel to wait for a better deal. Signed the paper work, payed what dues were owed, and left. Today I see a debit taken from my account for this membership, called and they tell me that his membership does not show cancelled. They're service cannot do anything and that I needed to call the my local club, called the them and was told by Trey we'd have to come in... Why??? Why do we have to go in to have this fixed... We went in anyway and they asked if we had our copy of cancellation?? I asked why would I keep for a month, his response was we tell you to so if there are any issues or errors, like this! Well first off, I wasn't told to keep my copy, in case THEY made an error. Second, how can you tell me you're the manager and have absolutely no authority??? He has to call corporate as he states they send their copy to them to scan and enter. Then you tell me you need to verify with corporate office to see if they have copy and what you, as the manager, are able to do?? I really didn't like how they tried to make it seem like it's our fault, because we didn't have our copy of cancellation! And couldn't say it was their error because they don't have a copy to look at?? In the meantime he suggests that we sign another cancellation form dated today?? Because he has no authority to back date to the original date we signed the cancellation??? ABSOLUTELY NO AUTHORITY! Why would I sign another cancellation changing the cancellation date?? Saying it was OK for them to take money from my account they weren't authorized to take. Does the word "SHADY" describe the run around we're getting here??? To top it off, Trey asked us to come back in the morning to discuss after he calls his corporate office. Again, why should I come in? We told him that amd he didn't want to take our phone number. We asked for his direct line, apparently he doesn't have one because both he and Shelby gave us the clubs main line, so why do they have phones at their desks... I'm this this till tomorrow, hubby will call amd let's see how good or bad they are with their customers. Right now, really not happy with them. Well I have an account with body xchange and they took more money from my account than they was suppose to... now they telling me oh you'll get your money back but it's almost been two weeks they been having me waiting to get money back they was never suppose to touch!
