Long line did not scare me off this time, my friend and I went before they open and got seated right after they open. I ordered the stinky tofu pot which is supposed to be their golden fortune cat. I have tried sticky tofu pot else where, such as HIT and Tasty pot, the stinky tofu here is the best, which according to my definition, is very soft. Other than this stinky tofu itself, the broth and other ingredients taste exactly like Tasty pot, where they actually give you a bit more food. If you want me to choose one to eat dinner at, I still will go for Tasty pot, which is a lot closer to home, no wait, a bit more ingredients in the pot and equally great service. read more

The hype is real. There are a slew of hot pot places all around the Bay, but this one shines brighter than the rest. Not only do they have individual hot pots with many different broth base options (am I being awful when I say I hate compromising with whomever I'm dining with on which broths to choose?), but they also have freakishly good milk tea. Yep, they've done the impossible. Not only do they excel in their hot pot, but their tea is delicious. Bonus? You get a free (regular) tea with purchase of a hot pot (either black or green) and then they have a separate milk tea menu. We usually drink the regular tea with our meal and take home the Hokkaido. I know everyone loves the Hokkaido at ShareTea, but BP's is better! So far, I've only tried 2 bases - Miso and Curry Fishball - both have depth and are very flavorful. On top of that, they have 3 different dipping sauce options that have some kind of cult following. For the meat lovers, the Miso has better proportioning of meat to veg whereas the Curry seems a little too veg heavy. With the hype comes a long wait time. I'd highly advise going at strange times - either very early in the morning or very late in the afternoon - to minimize the wait. Mediocre at best. Heard about this place from my coworker and some of my cousins that rave about it. So I guess I have to try it out for myself. Came here on a Thursday for dinner and we were #25 on the list and got seated at a communal table with 2 other parties after waiting about 30 mins. The place is nicely decorated and smells like propane for some reason. Started out with the Stinky Tofu...This dish was okay... but I don't think I will order it again. It tasted like tofu with a hint of fermented taste..barely any. If you go to a real Taiwanese place and order their stinky tofu, it will stink up the restaurant. This one was not so much and didn't taste much like stinky tofu. Tried the Fresh Milk Tea and it was also just okay. Not much tea flavor and tasted kind of like sweet milk. For the main course, I had the Japanese Miso Hot Soup. The portion came out bigger than the others and had a mixture of goodies in there. However, there was only like 1 pieces of fish, about 10 slices of tofu, a fresh crack egg, 1 clam, half of a crab, some meat, some mushrooms, some udon, and whole LOTS of cabbage. I mean A LOT of cabbage. The broth tasted good but not "oh wow" good. I don't know what the hype is all about, but what I've tasted here was just okay. Boiling Point is always our favorite. For this particular BP it's either a hit or miss. On occasional you will get a lot of met and veggies. Some day it's very little portion. My son got the beef #4, and the portion of the meat was very limited. Was a little disappointed. We paid almost 16.00 for a small pot and not a whole lot of items in our pots. The broth is a little oily and not as hearty and tasty as the one we have had before. They are always short on servers. We always have to wait and there are empty tables just not enough servers to cater to all the parties waiting. read more

Well let's start off by saying how it compares with the SoCal location... SoCal - 4 stars, this location- 3 stars. This "soft opening" is still creating crazy lines of constant one + hour waits.... So I do recommend coming 30 mins prior to opening hours for the least wait time. The food is pretty much as listed....I got the spicy #8 Hot pot with lamb, cabbage, mushrooms, tofu, ramen, cilantro, squid, clams... Etc. (comes with white rice) It was pretty spicy as is... For me at least so there's no need to add anymore spices to it. I got some sort of milk tea which was pretty ordinary... Nothing special. You're not allowed to Bring outside drinks such as gong cha next door or else they will take it away from you or put it in their fridge on hold. One of their ways to get you to buy their drinks is to make it really flavorful and spicy. overall.... An okay spot to have hotspot... But I wouldn't crave it on the often... I got here 5:45 on a Sunday, picked up a ticket and was expecting to be seated by an hour as the hostess had told us. We finally got seated 2 hours later. AMBIANCE (3/5) The décor of the place is pretty cute - cute walls with words. Wooden tables, bathrooms are clean. However, the music was random and a little obnoxious especially for a meal setting - a mix of some hard EDM with a little bit of old school hip hop, and top 20s pop from time to time - - definitely to attract the younger crowd. Lighting is a bit dim depending on where you get seated. Luckily, my friends and I were seated at the table on the corner with good lighting. SERVICE (4/5) For how busy I expected this place to be, wait time and all, service was decent. Food came out at a proper wait time, and they were prompt in getting us napkins, broth refill, water refills. FOOD (3/5) I had the #8 Taiwan hot pot - Each hot pot comes with a side of rice. The broth was as spicy as our waiter warned us. However, it was bland, and a tad bit too sweet. They definitely skimped on portions here with a bunch of filler - shit ton of cabbage, couple bites of ramen noodles, 2-3 slices of beef, 4 slices of pork blood rice cakes, 2 slices of squid, 1 fish ball and 2 clams and the shell wasn't even opened so I was a bit skeptical on eating that. OVERALL (3/5) While I enjoy the concept of having your own personal size hot pot, it just didn't taste the same. I'll stick to the traditional style hot pot. Portions skimpy, dim lighting, loud noisy music, and I came out unsatisfied and still hungry. But if you are curious like me, try it for yourself because whether I say its overhyped or not, I bet you'll still end up coming here. Well.. The wait time is not part of rating for this review. You just have to accept the fact that it's a popular Taiwanese hotpot place so expect to line up for sometime. As far as the flavor, man this soup brings back so much childhood memories for me. The days that I can just drop by the night market after school and eat whatever I want (jk). Came here on a Friday evening around 5 PM and there was already a long line. We were handed ticket number 35 (party of 7) and seated three hours later. The design inside is very modern. Wish we could have taken a picture with the back mural! I personally think it's a lot cuter and spacious than the one in Irvine. I shared the Taiwanese w my friend and got fish balls and quail eggs as add-ons. Lemme tell ya, so good!!! Just as good as irvines location if not better! Let me just say, service was really bad when my friend and I went. We got there at 3:30 p.m so we made it just in time for their lunch special. I ordered the #4 beef hot pot and my friend ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot pot. When we got our dishes, the waitress came over to ask us if we wanted anything else because their kitchen was closing. So my friend ordered the macaroon ice cream. The waitress even asked us to pay then and there. So my friend and I was like we didn't even get to eat yet and they're already asking us to pay? So my friend paid and they gave her back a receipt. She asked me how much should we tip them and I was like idk they really didn't even help us. And they made us pay on the spot. Rude much. We ended up tipping them 20% to be nice. But anyways, I was really excited to try the beef hot pot but it was kind of disappointing. It did not even look like the picture. There was barely any beef. The broth was a little bland. Overall, I thought this dish was alright. They even forgot to give my friend the macaroon ice cream. We had to get up and ask them for it. Boiling Point is my favorite place in Fremont to visit (not that there are many other places to go ha). This particular Boiling Point pales in comparison to the ones in SoCal but this one will have to do until others meander their way over to the better part of California ;) (thus the 4 stars rather than 3). I've tried every pot here, even the veggie one - and they're all great. Even their spicy fermented tofu tastes authentic. I also like how a drink is included in the price of your meal. The service is pretty good as well - they'll heat up the pot for you and ask awhile into the meal if you'd like the fire to be diminished (which is best or else my tongue will be burning from the heat).The music they play here reminds me of Taiwan.. yes, including the occasional K Pop. An upside is that Boiling Point seems to have lost its popularity so the wait times are usually not long at all. I came with a group of 8 on a Saturday around 12PM and waited only around 15-20 minutes. Boiling Point - I'm happy you finally came to visit (and stay for good, I hope!) in the Bay Area. Go 5-10 minutes early and avoid a long wait! I went 5 minutes before opening and we were seated the first round! I think going at lunch is always more worth it because you can get an iced black or green tea with your order. I got beef the beef! Even though the menu says hot, you can get your soup however spicy you want. I've been here a few times and I thought it was amazing the first time. But as I tried similar places around the area, I find boiling point to fill the pot with a lot of cabbage, and not very much meat. You can also add meat and other sides on the side for an extra charge for a reasonable price if it's not enough for you. I found it to be plentiful for me and my friends because it also comes with a rice. The quality of the ingredients are not the best, though. Some people might find it bland, but there are sauces on the side that are really tasty and compliment the pot! Customer service is efficient, they filled our pot with more soup when it was running low, checked up on us, and a plus is that they greet you when you walk in! Boiling Point is one of my favorite places to eat hotpot. My favorite hot pot from BP are Beef Soup, Taiwanese Spicy, & Japanese Miso. I love how each person gets an individual pot. Sometimes, I don't like sharing the same pot because we all have our own preferences and we don't all agree on the same thing to eat. Beef Hot Soup is the small/medium pot. It's perfect for the average person. You can get to choose your spice level. I like the very spicy level because it's spicy but will not give me an upset stomach. Taiwanese Spicy is my second favorite but it's also the deadliest. Why? One, because it only comes in flaming spicy level. You cannot ask them for medium or just spicy. Nope, they are very rigid about that. I love to eat spicy food but sometimes, my stomach begs the differ. I love the spiciness of the soup and how flavorful the broth is but an hour later, my stomach would be so upset from the spiciness. It would be a good idea to take pepcid afterwards. Japanese Miso is my third favorite one. I feel like with this one, you really can't go wrong with it. It has seafood and pork. You can have the best of both worlds - seafood and poultry. I have tried other items on the menu but these are the three that I enjoyed the most. Also, don't buy the macaron ice cream here. If you really want to then go for it but it's tiny and over priced. Plus, they have it in the freezer for so long so the macaron shells are stiff and hard. In addition to that, be aware that they might split up medium to large parties. We had a party of 10 and they made us split up, 6 to one table and 4 to another table. Customer service is not always the best but the food is good. read more

Well, now that I work pretty close to BP, I think I'm going to come here more often. I've never had the socal boiling point, so I can't compare. However, I think the hot pot is pretty good. From pictures, you can see that it's the all in one type of hot pot. I can't really speak for the other pots, but I really enjoy the beef one. The quality of the meat could be a little better. It tastes a bit more on the chewy side at times. The rest of the ingredients are fresh though. I really like the enoki and the brown fish cake thing. I always save it for last. I don't think you substitute for the items in the pot, but I think take things out and order something else on the side. I mean it's kind of a pain, so make sure you like what's inside or you have someone to give your mushroom or whatever else to. I like that they give you free drinks. The times I've been there, they give you free green or black iced tea. I recommend the green milk tea! They're playing in a part in the drought reduction too - you only get water if you ask! Service is pretty good - nice and attentive servers. Parking can suck sometimes though. The wait can be pretty ridiculous sometimes, so I try to go for lunch or early dinners. I don't know if they still do it, but they had a outdoor canopy and a microphone set up to call out numbers. Came here a few months ago with some friends and we had to wait for 45 minutes! It actually wasn't too bad since we ended up walking around and trying the new boba shop next door =D I think it's kinda ridic that sooooooo many people were waiting. There was a lady who tried to lie her way into getting her seats. She said she was #45 and etc etc but then when the host called her # someone else answered! Shady...she got caught and shamefully left after that. The host is not the nicest but I guess they need to be that way given the emotions patrons can have while waiting for a table...I hope the madness dies down soon! Ahhhh! I wish you can see me jumping for joy that Boiling Point opened in Norcal, especially since I've been so deeply missing my Asian foods. Yes I agree, maybe it's not worth the 2 hours wait, nor is it the best thing you can get in SoCal, but at this point I don't even care anymore. I am just happy. Came here on the first week of opening and waited almost 2 hours, but to me, it was well worth it. It's located in the 99 ranch plaza so the wait time really didn't seem that bad especially when you walk and shop around the plaza. You basically put down your name and is given a number and just need to check back after that wait time. Most likely, they haven't even called your number yet. After we were seated, finally, we already knew what we were going to order, so like people that have been starving for days, we put in our requests IMMEDIATELY. The downside of visiting during "soft opening" was the fact that you couldn't switch literally ANYTHING. If you wanted green tea instead of black tea, that's a no, and if you wanted to change that white rice to vermicelli, you were also denied. It was a bit ridiculous but we lived with it. I ordered my favorite house special hot pot with stinky tofu and as always, it's amazing. Since I love stinky tofu, I just love the flavor of this hot pot and recommend anyone who is a fan of stinky tofu to try it. How can you not? The black tea that came with the order was a little too sweet for my taste so I am hoping they started letting people alter their food and drinks by now. Great concept! Welcome to NorCal. On entrance the restaurant looks nice and clean. Appealing. The best part is I did not smell a lot of herbs that can potentially sit on my long hair. We arrived 15 minutes before it opened which was around 11:45. The restaurant opens at noon. Strange considering the whole experience lasted almost 2 hours!! Pretty unacceptable. By the time we sat down, ordered the food came around 12:45! What takes them so long? Especially given this is a chain restaurant. Regardless of a soft opening, the kinks should be done already. To sit finally sit after a 40 minute wait and wait another 25 minutes before I get a hot pot delivered? Are you aware that most lunch hour is 45 minutes? BI like the different combination of hot pots. The concept of having everything all in the individual pot like the Korean hot pot works. It helps us make a fast decision. The taste of the soup base was nicely done. That deserves a 4. To stay in business and not make anyone upset, here are few suggestions: 1. Put up and estimated wait time I the front so guests know what to expect. 2. Put out a sign that says get a number so people are not roaming trying to figure out where to go...a check in podium is a must for efficiency. 3. Open an hour to half an hour early so that lunch hour rush is met. 4. This is the Bay Area this a multigrain or brown rice as a choice is a must. 5. Train wait staff to remind people that there is noodle inside the pot...some people are are no card or low card diets. Not having noodle is important. Even if written on menu, a quick reminder is crucial for the health conscious. Parking was decent since its in a plaza. Bathrooms were clean as well. Great customizable hotpot that won't get your clothes smelly!! RECOMMEND THEIR CURRY FISH BALL!!! COME EARLY TO GRAB SEATS! FOOD: I got the curry fish ball ($13), which came with fish balls, a piece of corn, 1 egg, fake shrimp meat, pork meat, and an assortment of vegetables. I really liked the curry soup base, which was not too spicy. The hotpot is about 10in in diameter and comes on top of a stove top, which the servers will light the fuel in front of you. Each hotpot also comes with rice. I had no trouble finishing all of the soup and the rice. ALSO FREE SOUP REFILL!!! PRICE: With tips and tax I paid ~$16 and I was happy with the quality and the quantity of the food, which was just enough to fill my hungry stomach but not too much. SERVICE: The shop is VERY POPULAR. For dinner it opens at 5pm. We came around 4:40 pm and was first in line for tickets but within 5 minutes a hugeass long line already formed after us. Our food took a while to prepare - 15-20 minutes. SETTING: This shop is located in a plaza with a bunch of other Asian restaurants and there is a big parking lot. Good hot pot but you can find a tastier fix elsewhere--and with better service. I came with a group of six people early on a Friday night (5 pm). The restaurant was only half full and nobody was waiting. The hostess was quite rude to us and made us wait outside (where it was freezing btw), even though we obeyed all of the rules--don't block the entrance/walkway, entire party was present, etc. At one point, she indicated that our table was ready. We quietly followed her, only to be scolded and told to go back outside. We ended up getting seated at that table anyway. The only difference is that they had not put down the utensils and napkins yet. It was also hard to get their attention once we were seated and eating. -1 star for that overall service experience. The food itself is what you would expect from an individual hot pot restaurant. The menu is almost parallel to that of other restaurants with the same concept: beef hot soup, lamb hot soup, spicy Taiwanese style, curry, Korean/Japanese/Thai hot soup, etc. Prices are about $13 per bowl, which is pretty average. Our group ordered a few different types, and they all came out looking similar to the pictures shown on the menu. I went with the Japanese Miso Hot Soup which was filled with udon noodles, vegetables, some meat (pork), assorted seafood, and raw egg. It was yummy but I thought the flavor was a bit lacking. Also, medium spicy didn't seem to have any kick at all. As for drinks, the Old Time Delight Milk Tea (50% sweet + boba) was delicious. I loved the taste of the milk tea and the tapioca balls were the perfect chewy consistency--highly recommend! For dessert, they bring out a little basil seed lemonade concoction with the check. I love basil seeds but the juice was too sweet for me and I had to dilute it with water. It was still a pleasant surprise though. I'd definitely return to Boiling Point. I didn't entirely love it but I'm not mad at it either- probably won't order it next time though. Piece of advice for first timers- download the Boiling Point app! I wish I knew this app existed earlier because it actually shows you the wait list/time of all the boiling point locations. I've been here several times and loved it every time :) Great food, great services...The wait was pretty tedious though but the food made up for it. #4 was pretty good, beef with veggies and vermicelli noodles. I wish there was more meat and noodles, but other than that it was not bad. I had medium spice and added extra quail eggs. Comes with rice too and it was a good size for one person. Left me a little hungry so I got the green tea ice cream. The ice cream compliments the macaron because the shell was sweet (strawberry flavor). I didn't bother with the crab meat, tomato, or corn, wasn't a huge fan, but everything else is fine. Boiling Point definitely lived up to it's hype! We came on a Wednesday and lucky for us, my friend was the second person in line before they opened at 6pm. By the time I got there, we were seated immediately. The secret is to get there at 5:30pm, wait in line and the employees will pass out numbers around 5:45pm for 6pm seating. Traditionally, you share the hot pot with everyone at the table. However, I like the idea of having your own individual hot pot here. The waiter will bring your pot and light the it in front of you. It's fun to watch the pot boil...hence the name Boiling Point! My pot was boiling so much that I had to ask the waiter to turn it off! There is no substitution for anything on the menu so it you don't like something, they can remove that item from the pot but they won't substitute it for another item on the menu. I ordered the spicy beef pot and was quite happy with my choice! The beef broth was flavorful and it was filled with lots of veggies & meat. More veggies than meat though...wish i had more meat in my pot. My friend had the Miso pot which was a bigger sizer and that was quite good as well & filled with seafood. Make sure to dip your meat & veggies in the ponzu/garlic sauce condiments on the table and enjoy with rice. I finally was able to try this place with a few friends! Luckily they were already around the area, before the restaurants second opening at 5p, so they were first in line! Therefore, I can't exactly dock a star for the wait. Though I do understand that the waiting may have costed this place a nearly perfect rating (maybe, IMO). So we were seated minutes after opening and they had everything all set up and ready to go. The place is a bit tiny for such a popular and hyped up place. I love the way everything looks from their walls to the way the tables and chairs look. The tv playing the mini trivia questions do go a little fast, but I guess we're not really there to play a game haha so that's whatever. Onto food! I absolutely loved my order. I decided to go with the beef option as my first order. Flaming spicy please! It came out perfect. I loved everything that was in it! The corn was sweet and perfect. There was enough beef, I thought. There's also the back on the menu where you could order extra stuff. The soup was about 75% cabbage BUT who doesn't like that stuff when eating hot pot! Each order comes with a bowl of white rice, so if you would prefer to not fill yourself up with extra carbs, tell them ahead of time! Though I'd recommend it to eat it with the broth from time to time, delish! The water cup is a bit odd.. But I guess it still works. They served us water in a paper cup, but I do like that they give us our own huge glass of water to refill it ourselves whenever we need to. Versus having to wait for them to come around. This place also serves various milk teas and dessert. We didn't try anything here because we had another place in mind. Price is reasonable! Make sure you check the prices for the number that you're ordering. There are two different prices each for lunch and dinner. Overall, the food is definitely worth the price! I came here thinking it was a Boiling Crab type of joint. Oops. Ordered #2 seafood tofu, medium. The soup was full of flavor, a bit on the sweet side, but not overwhelming. Just the right amount of seafood and vegetables - maybe I'm getting weak in my old age, but I was stuffed after finishing my bowl, and I only had half the rice. My wife and daughter split the Japanese miso. It was waaaay too salty. Had to ask for more water to dilute the soup. My son got the curry fishballs... it was curry flavored soup, but not curry. Kind of weird. Our visit got off to a slightly unpleasant start - we were waiting for our table, but the previous party stayed after sitting around browsing their phones for quite a while. The waitress handling the seating apologized to us several times, saying that the party was taking a long time to leave. My wife went to see what was going on - turns out one person in the party thought the food was too expensive and didn't want to pay, and someone else in the party was trying to explain why it cost what it did. Seriously?? Take it outside, kids. People are waiting to eat, and you're costing the restaurant money. Oh, the hot sauce - be careful. It's SPICY. read more

Congratulations Boiling Point, I'm a fan! Came here on a Saturday evening and waited about an hour. Luckily, Gong Cha is right across, so we grabbed a few dranks while we waited. The line moved fairly fast, as they only call your number 2-3x, and after that they'll skip you or add you back to the end of the line -- which to me sounds pretty fair. There were several selections to choose from, however, everyone in my party decided to stick with the #8 Taiwanese Style Spicy (which only comes in a BIG bowl). I'm not sure about the other flavors, but WOOO, #8 definitely hit the BOILING POINT! It was full of flavors, HOT (once they lit up the fire), SPICY, and SPICY. I love how this pot came with ramen noodles.. I think that's the main reason why we all decided to try this. Interesting items in the soup were the beef intestines, which didn't taste as fresh and clean.. so we picked them all out. Another was the pork blood, which was made with rice cake (this was confirmed with one of the workers). All hot pot are served with rice. Verdict? Would probably come back again.. maybe once every few months. Would recommend coming on a week night as the wait isn't as long. +1 for NOT giving me explosive poop the morning after ;) read more
