Allow me to summarize my review in two points 1. The flavor of your soup also matters, not just interior. 2. Please train your employees to smile or at least, well, serve. I wanna encourage people to speak about what they really feel about this place, I have so many friends who have been going to this place for years ended up not hating to come here because the flavor of there soup went down hill, it just simply doesn't tasty the same any more, in a bad way, there is a weird artificial taste about there new soup, I can't be the only one that's noticing that. I know services has never been a strong point of this location, but when did they stop wiping tables? We were seated at the back of the restaurant and the moment I sat down I noticed this piece of trash ON the table, very visible. Also, don't expect on services if you get seated at the back, because I literally have to yell for help, and one waitress with glasses gave the WTH look when I yelled out excuse me to get her attention. And we put the empty sauce jar on the edge of the table hoping someone would pass by and give us a refill, four different people passed by more than six times and no one, touched the jar, we had to ask the guy who brought us soup to refill it. This should be my last time eating here for a very long time of period. Horrible service here. Started off nice and was seated like everybody else. Once we got our food we were brick walled. We were thirsty and the green teas sugary taste only made it worse. We asked for water four times! The third time, one of the waiters looked at us, repeated our request and then never came back. Like bruh, the water was behind you. I asked for rice instead of noodles guess what I got. Noodles -_-. As soon as I got my soup I wanted to turn off the fire because it evaporates fast and much of the vegetables consume the soup but unfortunately they didn't come help turn it off for 10 minutes and my soup had evaporated by then. I've been to their location in Hacienda, so when I heard that the Gardena location was open, I decided to try it out and bring my cousins along for the ride. No wait. Less claustrophobic feeling. Closer to my playground ( I spend a lot of time in Carson/Torrance area). This place was looking good already. The food was good, like the other location. They give you the sauces so you don't have the freedom to get up and grab the sauces yourself. Pro or con, depending how you like it. Also, this place is tucked away in the same plaza as the Marie Calendars. Drive into the Marie Calendars parking lot and you're sure to find this place. Their neon light visible to the street (Western) wasn't on so you might have some trouble finding this place like I did. Now, my 2 star rating isn't based on the food (please see my review on the Hacienda location); It's on the subpar service. Our waiter spilled water all over our table while handing out our waters. This is attributed to an accident, but we had to wait 5 minutes until he came back with napkins? Luckily, we didn't get wet. This wasn't even my biggest peeve of the evening. My cousin ordered wintermelon juice and was given plum juice. When we told one of the waiters, he got the waiter who took down our order who decided to raise his voice in front of us saying "I told her we didn't have that!!!" He NEVER addressed that they were out of that particular beverage AND he had the audacity to blame my cousin for getting a drink she didn't even order in the first place. No one offered to correct the mistake even after we asked. I've been to many restaurants where service is bad, but I have never been yelled at and blamed for a server's incompetence. What happened to the policy "The customer's always right?" A simple apology and bringing the correct would have sufficed. Not too sure I'll be returning to this place any time soon. Korean Kimchi Soup! Delicious! I always ask for super spicy and it's never spicy enough, so I add tons of that chili oil on the table. Don't believe the pictures you see on the menu, they look huge, but in reality it's half that size. False advertising. NOT cool Boiling Point. -____- Servers are horrible at refilling your water. BRING BACK THE CURRY FISH BALL!!! The Curry Fish Ball used to be a regular menu item, but for someee reason, they took it off!! Thankfully, for the month of September, they brought it back so my cravings were satisfied! Since they took Curry Fish Ball off the menu, I've been ordering the Pomelo. I love the citrus flavor and how clean and refreshing the broth taste. They use a different broth and if you want a refill they have to take your pot to the back. LOVEEE the dipping sauce too! I finally tried Boiling Point, years after it started getting hyped up. While I still prefer family-style hot pot, I get why the individual hot pot is trending. People don't have to divvy up goodies in the hot pot, such as the beef, blood cakes, etc. that they don't want to. They can also order different broths. I ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot pot. This one is bigger. And it only comes with spicy broth. I loved it. I felt like I was at a sauna, and people may have been staring, but I really loved how spicy it was. I ordered it with rice on the side, because it helped me deal with the spiciness. I do want to try the other hot pot options, maybe a little milder. I also had the hokkaido milk tea drink. Since I was ordering something spicy, I ordered something milky to help cool down my mouth. Water definitely was not enough. Overall, I do think it's a little pricey, but I'll come back, especially on a cool winter day. read more

I've been wanting to try hot pot's from the time Spot Sizzling Soups opened up nearby but decided to launch with Boiling Point as that seemed to be the standard for hot pot. It is located in the same plaza as Pho So 1 with ample of parking at the back side so I was generally aware of the location. I reached at around one thirty on Sunday afternoon and there were almost ten people hanging around outside waiting for their turn. I put my name down and was told 20 minutes. After almost thirty minutes I was seated. Went with the beef hot pot ($9.99) at the flaming spicy level and for lunch it includes a bowl of rice and either sweetened green or black tea so I went with the green tea. The restaurant is small and seems to be very full. The rest room is at the end and I almost collided with a hassled server while making my way there. Soup is served fast, the greeter and servers are all very sweet. Taste wise I liked it a lot. The flaming spicy level is spicy but easily manageable and there are hot sauces and oil's available if you want to increase the spice level. While eating a server came over and rudely asked if I wanted some more soup. I did not so I politely told her no. This got her furious and she accused me of burning the pot so I told her to either put the flame out or take the pot away. She thought for a some time and then put the flame off. After this minor intrusion she thankfully left me alone. When I left I saw another five people waiting in line, so this place is definitely popular, anyway I was completely satisfied and will return to try some more soups. read more

Been wanting to go here forever ! I know there's a lot of hype about this place, but i had to try it cause i love hot pots! Personal mini hot pots, ice cream macaroons, and ice cream cubes! SETTING: Small restaurant with a bit of a tight seating arrangement since all the tables are less than an arm lengths away from each other. But it is a nice little taiwanese ambience. Modern and clean. FOOD: Lamb Hot Soup - nappa, vermicelli, lamb sliced, enoki mushroom, imitation crabstick, kamaboko, pork blood, fried tofu skin, maitake mushroom, clam, sour mustard, firm tofu $11.99 I ordered a mild, and i probably should've asked for a medium since it wasn't much flavor but i wanted to play it safe since I was a first timer. The lamb was delicious, it was very soft and tender. My favorites were also the pork blood and maitake mushroom. The pork blood was a mixture of rice, so it was more of like pork blood cake. It was unique and amazing. Unfortunately I only received one piece of enoki mushroom and one piece of maitake mushroom and tons of cabbage. Too much cabbage for my taste. BUY ONE GET ONE FREE TEA DRINKS $3.25 They only had two flavors. Peach Green Tea and Mango Tea. They ran out of peach green tea so we only got to try the mango tea, and it was waaaaaay too sweet. NOTE: For a dinner of three people, they brought out three small rolls of noodles on one small sauce plate. I personally think that it should be a plate for each person. Basil Seed Shots (FREE) They give these to everyone after your meal, its just a quick mini dessert drink. It's like a teaser, makes me want more basil drinks ! SERVICE: Since they serve their waters in tiny disposable drinking cups, like the one you get in a waiting room, they should be more prompt on refilling waters or leave a carafe out so we can serve ourselves. My friend also ordered an addition of quail eggs for her soup, but did not recieved it, so she asked for them again and were given on the side. That was an extra $1.50 for about 6 eggs. I did appreciate that one of the male workers asked if we all wanted more soup. CONCLUSION: In general, the concept and food is good, but could use some slight adjustments. All the hot pots are $11.99 each. Each ice cream macaroon are $2.50 each, Each ice cream cube are $0.69 each, but more than one and you can get deals. This is probably the smallest and worst Boiling Point I have been to. After being away from So Cal for four months, I picked Boiling Point as my first food adventure with my friends. We waited about an hour for a table for four around 8 PM on a Friday. When we were seated, we found out that they were out of the Lamb Hot Pot and the Hokkaido Milk Tea (the 2 items I wanted to order and probably the 2 most famous items of BP). You would think that if it is popular, they would have the food content in stock consistently...but it was not the case. So I had to settle for the House Special Hot Pot and the Old-Time Delight Milk Tea. The boba was yummy and I think it was not too sweet. The house special hot pot had fermented tofu so if you don't like the smell, I would avoid that. Both were decent but I was just bummed that I did not get the opportunity to order the items I wanted. For 2 hot pots and 4 drinks, the total after tip and tax was almost $50. Other than the lack of food, service was good. I left my phone in the booth and came back to retrieve it about five minutes later and the staff had it in safe possession so I was thankful for that! read more

There are definitely aspects of Boiling Point that are 5 stars: 1) Sauce selection - OMG the sauces here are so good. Probably loaded with MSG but whatever, worth. 2) Soup broth - Every soup broth I've tried has been fantastic. Best one (if you can handle the heat) is the Taiwanese flavor. 3) Honey Green Tea Boba - Good af. I've tried Lamb and Taiwanese so far and both were really good. Taiwanese is the best option on the menu here from what I've heard from BP experts though--and it's not hard to imagine why. The ingredients are just far and beyond the most amazing in the Taiwanese soup, and the flavor is incredible. You can even tell from just looking at the menu pictures! My only knock on it is that its so spicy that you can't really enjoy the delicious sauces; and the option only comes in 4x super spicy flavor! I really wish they offered this slightly less spicy. I lied, there's one more thing that I don't like and that's the napa cabbage (or whatever plain white vegetable is in there). They use some bitter variation of napa cabbage and it's definitely a turn off. I usually love it but for some reason at BP I have to eat around it. I like any hot pot - anytime! The service was great, the food was good and I enjoyed the ambiance. It wasn't too noisy, but I came at a not so busy time. Normally there's a line out the door to get a seat. The only down fall, and not a reflection of the establishment, is there isn't noodles in the dish. I mention it only because I LOVE ANY AND ALL KINDS OF NOODLES! And its what I really wanted in that moment. They do offer the dry ramen style of noodle for you to add on if you'd like, which is what I did. Worked fine for me. Not a bad place to get hot pot if you're out and craving hot pot. Boiling Point serves hot spot individually. You get your own individual pot of goodies and don't have to worry about "washing your chopsticks" with other people. They have a range of flavours ranging from seafood to stinky tofu. I ordered the sea food pot and it came with tofu, shrimp, fatty beef slices, and some veggies. You either get a side of white rice or vermicelli that you put into the hot pot. Overall, this place isn't bad but I would rather do hot pot at home with a bunch of friends drinking beer and having a good time. That is just my personal preference. read more

Boiling Point is an Instagrammer's dream, and unfortunately that's the biggest compliment I can give. My group made it a "must-visit" after hearing first person accounts of people coming here 4 times in a week and others who drove hours to get here. Would I come here again if a group of friends wanted to? Yes. Would I come here again on my own accord? No, thus the 3 stars. Food was not bad overall, but portions are a bit lacking and the large sized hot pots are sort of in a twilight zone in terms of amount of food. The waiter told us that the large was good for two so my friend and I decided to share the "large" Spicy Taiwanese hot pot. The amount of food was probably good for 1.5 people but would definitely not feed 2 moderately hungry guys. It came with ONE fish ball, maybe 6 pieces total of beef, a handful of ramen, a bunch of cabbage/vegetables, and a bowl of rice. The broth was quite flavorful, but wayyyy too spicy (no stars deducted for this because we were fairly warned when ordering). TMI Side-note: the spiciness actually ruined the rest of my night, I was literally a party-pooper :( Regarding the style, as another Yelper mentioned, it's definitely very efficient and fast to have them pre-cook everything and then serve but IMO kinda ruins the whole point of hot-pot. I like being able to choose what I put in (and when) because otherwise, practically speaking, you're ordering soup, no? Side-note2: if you order an extra side of meat, they bring it to you also pre-cooked on a plate, which I thought was weird... Service was standard, food came out in the 5-10 minute range, and it wasn't hard to flag down a waiter/waitress if we needed something. Okay, I love hotpot and am so glad I got to go to Boiling Point while I'm in town. I went once before maybe a year ago. I have to say though that I am a major amateur here. I should have ordered the #4 Beef but I thought I'd be adventurous and order the #10 Thai which has a variety of veggies and meats including shrimp and crab (all with shells on). So there I am with a pot of boiling hot soup (wishing they had bigger tables) trying to figure out how I was going to peel the shrimp and and get to the crab without scalding myself. Now I realize some people eat and bite into the shells because they're soft enough but I'm just not that type of seafood eater. Anyway, aside from that, the soup and everything in it was super tasty! I ordered medium spicy which was pretty darn spicy for me but I loved it anyway. I will definitely be back! The first time I came here was okay. I guess it was right before a employee appreciation night or something because they were literally making it seem like they wanted us to get out. There isn't a wait if you come early! My boyfriend and I have been meaning to try this place out since we always saw a crowd outside when went for dinner in the neighboring restaurants. One day we decided to go, and it was early so we knew the wait wouldn't be so bad. The options you have are pretty interesting and the best part is that they refill your soup if it gets low. We ordered the beef soup and the curry one with noodles. Yum. I didn't expect the dish to be so shallow but I guess that is the norm (for about $10-$13 a bowl I was expecting more, but I guess the soup refill makes up for it). They have sauces on the side that perfectly complement the hot pot concoction that you have. I never felt rushed even though there was a growing crowd outside. We got the chocolate snow after and it was large and in charge, I can't say no to something that has oreo chunks in it. I think this place is a nice change of pace from other hot pot places and is definitely something to try out. So good on a "cold" winter night in LA. The restaurant is pretty tiny and we knew there would be a wait, but that didn't make it any less painful. There were 2 options for the wait -- grab a ticket and standby or enter your cell number and come check in within 10 minutes of receiving a text from the restaurant. The little screen at the restaurant was helpful and also showed how many tables were waiting based on group size. For our group of 3, the wait ended up being at least an hour on a Saturday around 6pm (so hangry). Anyways, the food was delicious. I tried #4 Beef at the medium spice level. It had most of the usual fixings that I would have at home with my family. I usually like my food really spicy, but I'm glad I chose medium because the sauce I made had a lot of chili oil and the heat (temperature) of the soup made it taste spicier than it actually was. You can ask them to turn off the fire so the soup isn't boiling the whole time too. Wish the wait wasn't so miserable or I would come here more often. read more

It was a cold rainy night I was tired, hungry and just wanted a good bowl of soup, so I used my yelp app to find something on my way home. Boiling Point came up and I am so glad I found this little gem. I had the curry fish ball hot soup. My waiter explained that is was quite hot. I asked if they could adjust the spice level and he told me they would be happy to. I asked for mild and got a wonderfully flavored soup that was just right for me. I love the presentation and the fact that your soup is hot from the first bite to the last thanks to the hot pot. The service was excellent. The servers seem to work as a team and are very helpful, friendly and efficient. The restaurant was full and clients who were really enjoying themselves. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is just personal taste. The decor is very industrial and cold which I personally don't care for. It is fairly small with cement floors so the noise level was very high due to loud music which the patrons had to speak over to be heard. The place is small so the wait can drag on if the timing doesn't work out in your favor. The food IS good. It's definitely a great comfort food of a nice hot pot. It's not really a build your own hot pot... you get what you choose from their pre-made selection of hot pots. The service is on the good side. Having horrendous wait times at the Irvine location, I was a bit nervous about dining here. But lucky us, we got seated right away at 6:30pm. A line started forming after we sat down. You can choose from 10 different individual hot pots, and they all sound so good. (Even if you don't think you can finish an order, get your own. You won't regret it, promise!) Hot pots are $12-15 depending on the one you choose. You can also choose how spicy you want it to be. (You can't choose the level of spiciness for the Spicy Taiwanese one. That one is flaming spicy, but I think it's the best one. Worth the heat!) Their boba is really good, surprisingly, but a little pricey. I didn't mind though because I was basically paying for quality drinks. Their macaron ice cream sandwich dessert is mediocre. The macarons tasted like cardboard, so I'd skip that! They also give you a sweet drink with seeds in it after you're done with your meal to cleanse your palate. Yum! The food is always delicious. I'm a hot pot fanatic! This was the first place I've ever tried hot pot, and I've been a huge fan since then. I've tried the seafood & tofu, Korean bean paste, and Japanese miso hot pots, and I genuinely enjoyed all of them. Seafood & tofu: plenty of seafood and Napa cabbage, both of which I love! The medium for this can get pretty spicy, probably bc the broth isn't flavored with bean paste or miso, like the other two. Korean bean paste: my favorite of the 3! Has plenty of Korean ingredients like kimchi, bean sprouts, ramen noodles, and pork belly. I didn't find the medium for this one to be very spicy, and it can get a little salty as the broth evaporates bc of the bean paste. Japanese miso: comes with udon & is a bigger size. Plenty of toppings as well, and is very filling! I didn't find the medium spice level to be spicy for this either, and actually found it a little sweet. Well I'm not very familiar with this hot pot thing. So here you have your own pot. When they bring your pot, all the ingredients are already in it. And the soup is already boiling. And continues to boil until the fire in the burner goes off (which lasts until you're almost done eating). So there you have your personal boiling pot. I had the beef (I always go for beef whenever wherever). There are dipping sauces on the table so you can flavor it the way you want it. They give you sweetened iced tea for free. You pay for refill. I crave boiling point even on the hottest of days. I love coming at lunch time because of the free ice green tea that comes with it. But yuss boiling point is so good! I always always get the beef hot soup, mild. (I cant handle spicy). And sometimes i order a side of udon noodles.. can never have enough noodles. I also get rice as my side cause I like to take my meat/veggies out of the soup, dip it in the sauce and they lay it on the rice to take away the soupiness of it all. The only thing that sucks about BP is the wait. If you come at eating hours, you are definitely going to wait for an insane amount of time. But its worth it! Boiling point is delicious. I'm surprised by the low reviews for this place. Although not entirely authentic hot pot, I love their style of hot pot. Individual hot pots, each one is filled with a variety of items such as: lamb, clams, meatballs, blood sausage, enoki mushrooms, stinky tofu, and more! Love the broth. Great place to eat on a cold day! I always get the Beef Hot Soup with extra beef. It's really good. I'm not a big fan of anything else. As I don't enjoy fermented tofu. The smell of that isn't to great either. The Hokkaido Milk Tea with boba is delicious! This is by far my favorite drink here. The place is pretty good for SMALL groups.
