You know a restaurant has made an impression when you're willing to drive an extra 40 miles just to…read moreeat there. That's exactly what we did for Not Watson's Kitchen + Bar in Knoxville. And I'd do it again tomorrow. Some restaurants are good. Some are memorable. Not Watson's is the kind of place that has you planning your next visit before you've paid the check. Let's start with the atmosphere. Located on Market Square, it strikes that perfect balance between casual and comfortable. The outdoor seating is ideal for people-watching, relaxing, and convincing yourself that ordering dessert is a completely reasonable life choice. Then came the food. We kicked things off with the Philly Cheesesteak Eggrolls. Stop reading this review and order them. Seriously. Tender, flavorful beef and melted cheese wrapped in a crispy eggroll shell and fried to perfection. As if that wasn't enough, they're served atop a chili sauce that adds just enough kick to wake up your taste buds without setting them on fire. Outstanding. My wife ordered the wedge salad, and it hit every note you'd want a wedge salad to hit. I went with the Asian Chicken Salad. And that's where I discovered something important. These people know how to fry chicken. Not "it's pretty good" fried chicken. Not "better than expected for a salad" fried chicken. The real deal. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, flavorful chicken that completely stole the spotlight from everything else on the plate. The salad was excellent, but let's be honest, the chicken was the headliner. Then we made the wise decision to ignore all concepts of moderation and order the banana pudding for dessert. What a finish. Rich, creamy, comforting, and exactly the kind of dessert that makes you scrape the dish while pretending you're just making sure it was properly cleaned. From appetizer to dessert, this meal never missed. Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Outstanding food. And a restaurant worth driving out of your way to visit. Five stars. Or as I'm calling it: five high-fives. Not Watson's isn't just worth the extra miles. It's the destination.

Just right. The Tangerine Aleppo drink was refreshing with a tiny peppery kick. It was busy for dinner on Friday and it seems people were waiting a bit for their to-go orders but they did a good job of keeping the line inside moving. We were making 3 different bowls and there was a misunderstanding on the main. They added steak to the wrong bowl and remade it for me which is very much appreciated. When we made a reservation on the website there was no mention of a pre fixe menu. Not on the website, and not with the reservation. We went intending to get light appetizers, but when we arrived we were told that the only option was a 55 dollar per person menu. While we were annoyed by the bait and switch we decided to stay because there was no chance of getting a table anywhere else. I'll start by saying that I Know that Valentine's Day is historically very busy, but over half the tables in the restaurant were empty, and I've been in significantly busier environments where I still received a high level of service. In this instance, saying that we were dismissed by the staff was an understatement. My wife was sat while I was parking, and when I joined her I wasn't even acknowledged by the staff. We asked one question the server who was dropping off the food snapped at us and acted extremely irritated that we even addressed her while she dropped the food off. We asked for tea because we knew that was one of their specialties. The response that was snapped back was "no tea tonight, if you want drinks go pay at the bar, it's separate." The table beside us seemed to clearly be VIPs as the were in fact served several pots of tea. All in all the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience and they didn't want us to be in the restaurant. The exception was a very nice server wearing a light colored dress, she was very kind, which only made everyone else's disdain all the more evident by contrast. The food itself was just ok. Course 1: salads, it had fruit and fresh vegetables. It was excellent. Course 2: zucchini and eggplant with beef. It was well cooked but the sauce was extremely bland. Course 3: chicken stuffed with liver. This was gross, not even edible. Course 4: leg of lamb with rice. Once again the meat was well prepared, but it here was almost no seasoning. The rice that came with it was undercooked and kinda tough. Course 5: It was listed as braised beef brisket, but it was just an unseasoned pot roast. I expected Mediterranean food to be presented with a significantly more interesting range of flavor profiles. Course 6: Baklava, really great! The layers were crisp and the flavor was smooth. All that to say, it wasn't anywhere near worth the cost, I went for a light dinner and only had the option of buying a heavy 6 course menu. Other tables were given service and we were treated as an annoyance. The location was very convenient, so they have that going for them... which is nice.

We had heard of this place for a while and wanted to check it out and we're so glad we did. The food and service were amazing. Walking in it's a narrow restaurant, that has a bar on one side and tables on the other with kinda a rustic feel to it. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Since we hadn't been there before we got water and then pursued the menu a little for drinks. I had a question between two drinks and the server was very good at describing the drinks and ultimately decided to try the Darryl Strawberry, while my husband got the Nor'easter. The drinks came out and they were really good. They weren't overly strong, you could taste the bourbon in each of them, but it wasn't overpowering. For food we got the OPA! to start and then the Billy for me and the Mother Clucker for him. The OPA was awesome. It's pan seared feta with honey and served with fresh bread. The honey added a little extra sweetness to the feta which went really nicely with the crusty bread. The Billy had goat cheese, bacon, onions and, a tomato jam on it. It was delicious. The creamy goat cheese with the bacon and smokey tomato jam all went amazingly together. I got onion rings as my side, which were crunchy hot and so so good. The Mother Clucker was also really good. I only had a bite of it to try, but was definitely impressed. My husband upgraded to the duck fat fries which were out of this world. Super crunchy, great flavor. Our server kept checking back on us the whole time making sure we were satisfied with our drinks and food, but we had absolutely no complaints. This is a great place for a date if you want good food or to hang out with friends. We will definitely be back.

As good as I've had visiting Morocco and remote Berber areas with similar foods. In particular, I liked their family feast option that includes salad, two meats/entrees, couscous with veggies, and a desert. The detail and flavor of the cuisine is just great -- perfectly spiced and good portions. The food quality is on par with many nice restaurants in town. But, it wasn't busy when I visited on Saturday night. I suspect the low crowds are due to the location. It's tucked away in an area that looks like an office park near downtown. Not really any other restaurants or attractions that would bring most people to this area. That said, it had plenty of parking and was a nice setup. The other downside (for me at least) is they had a live musician who had his volume cranked up way too loud for this setting. Overall: Strongly recommended. I hope that people will try Tarik's because it's a unique option for Knoxville. They deserve the business because the food is truly very good.
